Grimsby man jailed after bombarding two children with sexual messages

gr

A SEX offender who persistently targeted a young girl and a teenage boy for grooming later bombarded them both with a deluge of messages, many of them sexual.

He called the boy “sexyface” and defied a child abduction notice to continue his obsessive behaviour, a court heard.

Oliver Burrell, 26, of Boulevard Avenue, Grimsby, also drove at speeds of up to 80mph and 90mph.

He failed to stop for police after being seen in Weelsby Road and Laceby Road, Grimsby, at about 12.30am and drove at more than 80mph in Ladysmith Road.

He overtook another vehicle at 70mph, twice headed through red traffic lights and hit a lamppost at Nuns’ Corner.

Appearing at Grimsby Crown Court, he admitted causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity between December 26 and 30, 2012, meeting her after sexual grooming and possessing 32 indecent images of boys between February 12 and December 18 last year.

He also admitted meeting a boy after sexual grooming between July 12 and September 16 this year and separate offences of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while banned and having no insurance on August 24.

Geraldine Kelly, prosecuting, told the court Burrell was accepted by a 12-year-old girl as a Facebook friend but she later realised she did not know him.

He pretended to be 18 and asked her to send him a graphic photograph of herself. She mistakenly posted it for public viewing instead of sending it to him in a private message.

The girl was “desperate” to remove the intimate photo from public view and later asked a woman she knew for help in doing this.

Burrell said he wanted to have sex with her and asked her to send him a naked photograph of herself.

He twice made arrangements to meet her, told her he loved her and asked her sexual questions.

There were 540 messages between them, some of them sexual, but they never actually met.

Burrell contacted the 14-year-old boy by sending text messages to him, including kisses on them.

The boy’s mother became worried by the influence Burrell was having on her son and tried to prevent him contacting the boy.

A child abduction notice was issued by the police but this did not deter Burrell from contacting the boy.

There were more than 100 text messages between them. He told the boy: “You’re my sexyface. How much do you love me because I love you a lot?”

Burrell had a string of previous convictions including for burglary, theft, criminal damage, assaulting police, threatening behaviour and possessing an offensive weapon. He had been given an antisocial behaviour order.

Andrew Bailey, mitigating, said Burrell did not actually meet the girl or touch her because the behaviour was “nipped in the bud” by the girl’s mother and lasted only four days.

Burrell tried to take his “inappropriate relationship” with the boy further. They met many times but Burrell claimed there was no touching.

The driving offences happened after Burrell panicked and drove off because he knew he was a banned driver.

Burrell was jailed for six years and was given a sexual offences prevention order. He was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was banned from driving for two years.

Former Windsor priest jailed for six years for multiple historic child sex offences

fe

A FORMER Catholic priest who took advantage of his position to abuse boys at a Windsor church has been jailed for historic sexual offences.

Michael Feben, pleaded guilty to six offences of indecent assault in the 1960s and 1970s on three boys who were aged between 10 and 15 with four of the offences happening in Windsor in the 1960s.

Feben, of Medina Avenue, Newport, the Isle of Wight, was sentenced to six years behind bars after pleading guilty at Reading Crown Court on Thursday.

The four offences in Windsor happened at St Edward’s Church, in Alma Road, between 1965 and 1967.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Francesca Worley of the Thames Valley Police Child Abuse Investigation Unit based at Windsor Police Station, said: “Feben was a priest and aged in his twenties at the time of these offences and continued to offend for decades.

This was a gross breach of his position of trust, as he took advantage of young boys who attended his parish. “These victims are now men, who have waited a long time to see justice done for the abuse they suffered. “We hope that this sentence encourages anyone who has been a victim of abuse to feel confident that their reports will be taken seriously and can be investigated to bring them justice, in spite of significant time that has elapsed.”

Feben, 75, received the following sentences:

1. Indecent assault on a male, between 1965 and 1967, at St Edward’s Church sentenced to two years’ imprisonment

2. Indecent assault on a male, between 1965 and 1967 (diverse occasions), at St Edward’s Church sentenced to 40 months’ imprisonment (to run concurrent with count one)

3. Indecent assault on a male, between 1965 and 1966, at St Edward’s Church sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment

4. Indecent assault on a male, between 1965 and 1966 (diverse occasions), at St Edward’s Church sentenced to 32 months’ imprisonment

5. Indecent assault on a male, between Jan 1966 and Dec 1966, at a residential address on the Isle Of Wight, sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment (count three, four and five concurrent to other counts, but consecutive with each other)

6. Indecent assault on a male, between 1978 and 1979 at Annunciation Church, Charminster, Bournemouth sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment (to run concurrent with counts three, four and five)

A further two counts of indecent assault, which Feben denied, have been left on file.

Feben was charged in March of this year.

Ex-girlfriend’s horror at child abuse images

lb

THE former girlfriend of a man caught with child abuse images has told of the horrifying moment she discovered the sick pictures.

Emily spoke to The News after Lloyd Butler was jailed.

Butler, known as Oz to his friends, pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court and was sentenced to jail by Judge Advocate Robert Hill.

Emily, 20, was with Butler for three years.

She said: ‘I feel shocked and disappointed.’

‘He used many methods to hide this sick habit from me.

‘I feel ashamed I was ever associated with him.

‘He was always such a sociable person and was always at parties or out clubbing with friends. I’m surprised at what he did.’

Butler’s crimes came to light when Emily was looking on her laptop for deleted photographs.

The computer was given to her by Butler before they broke up in October last year.

She said: ‘I asked my friend Joshua to run a recovery programme for me to get them back.

‘While it was running, all these files appeared with suggestive names..’

After some pictures appeared, Emily and Joshua, who are now in a relationship, decided to run a more extensive recovery to see if any more appeared.

They did and the next morning they phoned the police to tell them what they found.

Officers came to their flat, in Southsea, and seized the computer after taking statements.

Emily said: ‘At first, I didn’t believe it was real.

‘I tried to think it may have been unrelated but after recovering more files, the file names became much more suggestive. I knew I had discovered something a lot more sinister.’

Butler, 24, was arrested for downloading and distributing images of child abuse.

Officers found evidence of 24 films and 1,461 pictures.

Butler was jailed for three years and two months and has to register as a sex offender.

The court heard from prosecutor Daniel Sawyer that Butler, of North End Avenue, in Stamshaw, Portsmouth, admitted to viewing child abuse images from the age of nine.

Tim Sparks, defending, said the Butler spent many of his teenage years isolated and had mental problems.

‘That is where the trouble starts. He was so isolated he suffered from mental instability.

‘He does recognise, in part, the harm to the children in the images. He recognises that it is wrong and shows remorse.’

During sentencing, Judge Hill said: ‘You have had an addiction to child pornography for a long time indeed.

‘But you elevated your addiction by distributing the pictures and movies.

‘One of the hallmarks in this case is the nature of the pictures.

‘They are classified as the most serious.’

Butler also pleaded guilty to producing cannabis with intent to supply. He was sentenced to two months in prison to run concurrently.

‘I’m glad that justice has been served’

EMILY has welcomed the jail term Butler received.

She said: ‘I am glad that justice has been served appropriately.

‘Whether he changes his character and his actions for the better is for him to decide in jail.

‘I was horrified to hear the disgusting details of Lloyd’s case and I never expected the level of abuse he shared and viewed, let alone the quantity.

‘The judge understood the implications, the severity, and consequences of Lloyd’s crimes, and I feel he judged fairly.

‘I am angry at him because it has caused me to have trust issues.

‘But I also feel sorry for him because he feels this is the only way he can have control over his life.’

Aidan Leacy – Co Wexford

Sex offender burnt out of his Wexford house

Aidan Leacy

A former public servant who was “burnt out of his house” following his conviction for sexually assaulting two young girls has had his sentence reduced by the Court of Appeal.

Aidan Leacy (56), of New Ross, Co Wexford, pleaded guilty to one count of sexually assaulting two young girls in the west of the country on dates between November 2007 and January 2008.

He was sentenced to six years imprisonment by Judge Carroll Moran at Cork Circuit Criminal Court on March 3 2013.

Following a successful appeal today by Leacy, a new sentence of three years imprisonment with two years post release supervision was imposed on him by the Court of Appeal.

Mr Justice George Birmingham said Leacy sexually assaulted two seven-year-old girls in late 2007, early 2008. Leacy’s daughter was in the same class in school as the injured parties and these two girls would attend his house to play.

The judge said Leacy showed them adult pornographic magazines and sought to explain to them the mechanics of a sexual act.

Leacy encouraged the young girls to play “games” in which he would expose himself, the judge said. On about four or five occasions, encouraged by him, the little girls would pull down his trousers as well as their own clothes and underwear.

He also put them over his shoulder and smacked their bottoms. That act gave rise to the count of sexual assault, the judge said.

Mr Justice Birmingham said there were two arson attacks on Leacy’s home as a result of his conviction and he subsequently moved to Wexford. He is a former public service employee who worked as a gardener, the judge said.

It appeared, Mr Justice Birmingham said, that the HSE contacted the public service body for which Leacy had been employed and because the public had access to the parks and gardens where he was working, he lost his job.

The HSE also took his two children into care and confined him to supervised access once a week.

Counsel for Leacy, Thomas Creed SC, said his client was “effectively burnt out of his house”, had lost his job and his children were taken away from him and his wife as a direct result of this offence.

Leacy, who has no previous convictions, attempted to take his life, the judge said. He had pleaded guilty but it was not an early plea.

Mr Justice Birmingham said the court could not deal lightly with a situation where offences were committed against children as young as the injured parties. There was a very real breach of trust by Leacy because the two little girls had been coming to the home of a classmate and playmate.

The offences have had significant impact on the girls and their families and it was “hard to imagine anything more serious, disturbing and unsettling” than what had occurred here, Mr Justice Birmingham said.

Nonetheless, the Court of Appeal was of the view that Leacy’s sentence was out of line with sentences which have been imposed for comparable offending.

The court substituted Leacy’s six year sentence for one of three years with two years post release supervision.

Apparently the probation service are most effective when the period of supervision can be confined, Mr Justice Birmingham said.

The court was told that Leacy will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Leeds man sexually assaulted girl,13, while out on bail for GBH

167

A man who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl while he was on bail for a violent attack on a teenage boy has been jailed for eight years.

Leeds Crown Court heard James Dowson and accomplice Charles Letizia attacked the 16-year-old boy in Chapeltown on July 28.

Dowson, 25, of Carberry Road, Burley, kicked the boy in the chest and punched him in the face while the youngster was on the ground.

The youth suffered a broken jaw during the attack.

The court heard Dowson was arrested the following day, charged with grievous bodily harm and released on bail.

Prosecutor, Timothy Capstick said on August 17 and 18, Dowson twice sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl on a bus and on a third occasion at his home address.

Mr Capstick said: “She continually pushed him away and told him to stop. She was clearly in pain.”

Mr Capstick said Dowson was arrested on August 21, adding: “He said he had limited recollection because he had drunk some 20 cans of Stella Artois lager.”

Dowson admitted causing grievous bodily harm to the 16-year-old boy and sexual assault and sexual assault by penetration in connection with the 13-year-old girl.

Mitigating, Adrian Dent said: “He has spent a good deal of his time abusing drugs and alcohol.

He does seem to be recognising he does need some help.

He apologises for what he has done.”

Jailing Dowson for two years for the attack on the boy and six years for the sex offences, Judge James Spencer told him: “You took advantage of her.

She was hurt and frightened.”

Letizia, 23, of Conway Mount, Harehills, was jailed for two years after admitting grievous bodily harm in connection with the attack on the 16-year-old boy.

A serious risk to children… but child rapist is back on the streets after a top judge ruled his sentence ‘unlawful’

An unrepentant and “very dangerous” child rapist is back on the streets after the country’s top judge said it would be “unlawful” to keep him locked up.

Experts say Jeffrey Charles Goodwyn, 48, from Cardiff, is a serious risk to children because of his violent and paedophilic tendencies.

He already had a conviction for raping a nine-year-old when he was sent down again in January 2012 for indecently assaulting a seven-year-old.

The judge considered him “a very dangerous offender indeed” and jailed him indefinitely at Cardiff Crown Court for the two assaults.

But he has now been freed after the country’s top judge realised the open-ended imprisonment for public protection (IPP) sentence passed was “unlawful”.

Such sentences allow the authorities to keep the most dangerous criminals locked up indefinitely until they have proved they are safe.

However, the lord chief justice Lord Thomas said they can only be passed for offences which happened after April 2005, when Goodwyn’s occurred a year or more earlier.

“This applicant remains a very dangerous man,” said Lord Thomas.

“Because of his failure to engage with the relevant assistance available to him in prison, he has not begun to address his offending.”

But he continued: “Unhappily, despite the danger to the public which this applicant clearly represents, we are in no doubt that… the IPP was unlawful.”

Goodwyn’s sentence would have been quashed a fortnight ago, but Lord Thomas delayed his decision to make sure parole arrangements were in place to protect the public.

That included arranging for hostel accommodation, but South Wales Police have refused to release a photo of Goodwyn to help the public identify him.

The Court of Appeal heard Goodwyn, of no fixed address, admitted twice assaulting the girl when she was seven or eight by putting his hand down her trousers and rubbing her private parts.

His rape conviction bore “remarkable similarities” to the assaults, said the judge.

In prison since 2012, Goodwyn had made “no progress whatsoever”, his own lawyers accepted.

Refusing transfer to open conditions, the Parole Board described his conduct as “unsatisfactory”. He had threatened staff and been punished for fighting, it said.

Worryingly, he had also refused to discuss his sexual offending, meaning he has not been able to start work to address his behaviour, the panel said.

But Lord Thomas said the legal problems surrounding the IPP sentence meant he had no choice but to quash the term.

He said a sentence including an ‘extended’ licence, to enable Goodwyn to be monitored in the community for longer, was necessary.

“The applicant was someone for whom a period of extended licence was required,’ he continued.

“He was a dangerous offender. An extended licence would provide necessary protection for the public, particularly for children, and assist his rehabilitation.”

Goodwyn’s new sentence comprises a three-year custodial stretch, which he has already served, followed by five additional years on licence.

Pervert began looking at indecent images of young boys ‘after wife died’

Ronald Bailey

A FATHER-of-two downloaded indecent images of young boys following the death of his wife, a court heard.

Ronald Bailey, of New Road, Hornsea, was found to have more than 380 indecent pictures of boys after police seized his computer from his home in January this year.

Bailey, 55, appeared at Hull Crown Court yesterday after he admitted two charges of possessing indecent images of children.

Prosecutor David Dickinson said: “Police attended the defendant’s home on January 25, and asked him if he had any images on his computer.

Judge Michael Mettyear sentenced Bailey to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and given a two-year supervision order. Bailey was also put on the sex offenders register for two years.

Balbeggie sex offender crept into young girl’s bedroom as she slept

A pensioner has admitted sexually assaulting a young girl while she slept in her family home.

Harold Rattray crept into the child’s bedroom in Perthshire as midnight approached, kneeling by her bedside to slip his hand beneath the covers.

The 72-year-old was discovered there, moments later, by his victim’s horrified father, with his hand to “the middle of the girl’s body”.

Appearing in the dock at Perth Sheriff Court, Rattray denied having any “sexual motivation” for the offence.

In fact, when caught in the act he had apologised, saying “too much drink but that’s no excuse” before leaving the house without another word.

But it emerged that he had sexually assaulted the same girl on another occasion, six months earlier, by touching her on the leg.

The court was told he had admitted to police officers that he had touched his victim but refused to accept the full extent of the accounts given by witnesses.

Sheriff William Wood told Rattray he had been guilty of two “very serious” sexual offences against a child.

He placed him on the sex offenders register and called for a report before delivering his sentence on January 21, telling Rattray: “The report will contain an assessment of the risk you pose to children.”

Rattray, of Green Road, Balbeggie, admitted first sexually assaulting the girl, then aged under 13, at an address in Perthshire in October 2013.

He sat beside her on a sofa, placed a jacket and a newspaper over their legs and placed his hand beneath, touching her on the leg.

The second offence took place in April of this year as he drank at an address in Perthshire.

When his victim’s father left him alone to visit the toilet, he took the opportunity to slip into her bedroom.

“The victim’s father returned to find that Mr Rattray was nowhere to be seen but his daughter’s bedroom door was now fully closed where previously it had been ajar,” a depute fiscal told the court.

“He opened the bedroom door to find the room in darkness but, after switching the light on, discovered the accused kneeling beside his daughter’s bed, with his hand and arm under her duvet covers.”

STROUD man Paul Riker has admitted raping a 14-year-old boy.

Riker, aged 29, of Bisley Old Road, was told he faced a maximum sentence of three-and-a-half years in jail at Gloucester Crown Court last Friday.

Giles Nelson, prosecuting, told the court that Riker knew his victim.

The court heard that at the time of the offence, which happened between January 31 and March 1 last year, both had been drinking heavily.

During the night the defendant awoke and said “I want some fun” before raping the boy.

Riker only stopped when his victim threatened to scream.

Black Country mobile phone paedophile ring smashed

A MIDLAND paedophile ring that traded in sickening child sex images via mobile phones has been smashed by cops – after the ringleader accidentally left his handset in a pub.

An investigation was started after cops discovered the Samsung phone, found at an Oldbury social club, was full of pictures and videos of child abuse.

Officers on the frontline of the war against paedophiles spent months painstakingly analysing the data on the phone to identify offenders.

The man at the centre of the ring, Philip Lunn, has already been jailed.

On Friday, another member, Brian Raymond Lowe, was banned from working with children indefinitely and ordered into treatment.

A third man, Kevin Norris, was remanded in custody at Wolverhampton Crown Court to be sentenced at a later date.

Dismantling the paedophile ring was the second success this month for detectives on West Midlands Police’s Child Exploitation Investigation Team.

Last week, it emerged that officers helped in the arrest of an American woman who was allegedly using a webcam to broadcast the live sexual assault of a young child, following the detention of a Walsall man on child porn offences.

The investigation into the mobile phone paedophile ring was launched in April last year when police in Wednesbury were handed a mobile phone that had been found in a social club. The handset screensaver was found to be an indecent image of a child.

As officers delved deeper, they found the phone had many movies of children being sexually abused. There were also dozens of daily text messages between members of the ring, wanting to trade images and films and share fantasies.

The phone was eventually linked to Philip Paul Lunn, a single man who lived with his mum in Oldbury, and in June last year police swooped to arrest Lunn and a number of other people they had linked to him through the contacts on his phone.

Detective Inspector Heather McCamley said: “A lot of people with a sexual interest in children will store the images. Such was their thirst for this material that they were willing to delete parts of their prized collection from the phone’s memory to accept new ones.

“This was a lengthy operation that was very demanding on the team, but the overwhelming feeling is one of a job well done, in which we have caught a number of dangerous offenders.”

Lunn appeared in court earlier this year on charges of making and distributing some of the most serious kinds of indecent images and was jailed for two-and-a-half years.

He must also register as a sex offender for life and a sex offender’s prevention order has been granted to control his behaviour.

On Friday, known paedophile Kevin Norris, 52, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court to charges of making and possessing indecent images of children found on his mobile phone.

Norris told the court via a statement: “I don’t get the same thrill from adult pornography … These images fill a void.”

He was remanded in custody until August 7 for a pre-sentence report but, because of the ten months he has spent on remand, may have to be released under strict supervision orders.

Judge Michael Challinor said: “The only way to protect the public from you, is for you to attend a sexual offenders’ treatment programme.”

Brian Lowe, 42, of Edgbaston, who pleaded guilty to making, possessing and distributing 15 images of children, was spared jail.

Judge Challinor told him: “I recognise you are remorseful and, if sent to prison for four months, you would lose your home. But you are one of those relatively rare sex offenders that know they need rehabilitation.”

Lowe was given a community order for three years, a supervision order for three years, ordered to attend a sexual offenders treatment programme, and disqualified from working with children for an indefinite period.

Details of a fourth man linked to the trade in images were passed to police.

Ilford Islamic teacher guilty of molesting students

AN ISLAMIC studies teacher who molested two young pupils at a madrassa set up at his parents’ home has been jailed for a year

Bashir Suleman, 30, of Mafeking Avenue, Ilford forced one of the girls to touch him as she rocked back and forth in prayer.

Suleman denied targeting the youngsters but was convicted of two assaults dating back to between 1997 and 1998, following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court last month.

Prosecutor Bernard Eaton earlier told jurors Suleman was guilty of taking “outrageous advantage” of the trust placed in him by his young pupils.

He had been acting as an Islamic religious teacher at his family home in Balfour Road, Ilford, between August 1996 and March 1998, the court heard.

His victims did not come forward until many years later when one of the two girls began to confide in a teacher at her secondary school.

Judge John Lafferty told Suleman: “Even though you don’t acknowledge your guilt, you must bitterly reget succumbing to your impulses when you were 16 and 17.

“Your younger victim was very young at the time and I regard the offences against her as being particularly serious.”

Suleman was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years and was permanently banned from working with children and vulnerable adults.

Suleman’s barrister Miranda Moore QC said Suleman had lost his good name in the community built up over 13 years and an opportunity to marry.

Suleman of Mafeking Avenue, Ilford, was convicted of indecency with a child and indecent assault.

He was cleared of two counts of rape, attempted rape and five counts of indecent assault, all relating to the same two victims.

Sex offender jailed for grabbing and kissing four-year-old girl on the lips

PERVERT Robert Colclough kissed a four-year-old girl on her lips on a bus.

The youngster was on the single decker travelling to Hanley with her family when Colclough sat next to her.

The 44-year-old allowed the girl to see a game on his mobile phone before asking her to give him a kiss.

She tried to walk away but he grabbed her and kissed her on her lips.

Police arrested the defendant and found thousands of indecent images of children on his phones.

Now Colclough has been jailed for eight months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court – to run consecutively to a three-year, four-month sentence he received in April for robbery and possession of a knife in public.

Prosecutor Fiona Cortese said the victim was sitting near the back of the bus with her sister when the defendant boarded near Stoke railway station. Her family was towards the front of the bus.

Miss Cortese said: “He sat next to the girl and engaged her and her sister. He asked about the game they were playing.

“She said she was four years old. He allowed her to see a game on his mobile.

“He asked the girl to give him a kiss. She tried to walk away. He grabbed her by the hand, turned her round, and kissed her on her lips.”

The family and their family got off the bus at Hanley bus station and the girls pointed the defendant out to their mother who challenged him. The police were informed and the defendant, who appeared to be drunk, was arrested.

Police attended Colclough’s home in Maidstone Grove, Bentilee.

Miss Cortese said: “Officers noticed a number of children’s Thomas the Tank Engines.”

The police were called to the defendant’s house the next day after he self-harmed.

Colclough told officers he had downloaded indecent images of children and was addicted to the images. He added he ‘wasn’t right in the head’.

His mobile phones were analysed and found to contain two category A images – the most serious – two at category B and 2,332 at category C.

In his police interview, Colclough said kissing the girl on the lips was a silly thing to do. He added with hindsight it was not appropriate behaviour.

He said he was single, did not have children, and collected Thomas the Tank Engine trains.

Colclough, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child and nine charges of possession of indecent photographs of children.

Robin Lichfield, mitigating, said Colclough was under a lot of stress at work and was drinking a lot.

His arrest made him more stressed and the next day he committed a robbery and self-harmed.

Mr Lichfield said: “He is sorry for what he did to this young girl. He hopes she was not traumatised.”

Colclough was made the subject of a five year sexual offences prevention order and will be on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Hucknall man jailed for 32 months after grooming & abusing 13-year-old schoolgirl on Skype

A Hucknall man has been jailed for sexually grooming and abusing a 13-year-old schoolgirl on the internet.

His offences were described as “every parent’s nightmare” by Judge Michael Stokes at Nottingham Crown Court.

Paedophile Martyn Davy (25), of Queen Street, persuaded the girl to take off her clothes while they were chatting on Skype via webcams on their laptops.

They both exposed themselves and engaged in sexual activity, which Davy recorded and made into two movies, the court heard.

During their 14-week ‘relationship’, the pair never actually met in person. But the police got involved when the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told friends at school she was receiving sexual text-messages from a man.

Police officers seized the pair’s laptops for analysis, and traced their Skype logs, the court heard.

When Davy was arrested, he was also found to have downloaded 4,380 indecent images of children, aged between five and 15, which he had amassed over a four-year period.

Davy pleaded guilty to four charges relating to online sexual activity with a child between 8th January and 22nd April 2013, during which time the girl turned 14, and to three charges relating to the making of indecent images between 1st August 2009 and 1st December 2013.

Judge Stokes sentenced him to a total of 32 months, placed him on the sex offenders’ register for life and banned him from any contact with females under the age of 16.

Dawn Pritchard (prosecuting) told the court that the pair met on the Internet after the girl set up an account on the adult-dating site, Flirt, claiming she was 19 and posting photos of her face and her breasts.

“Davy popped up and said hello,” said Miss Pritchard. “She quickly told him her real age, but they started talking to each other via webcams on Skype.

“She was on her laptop in her bedroom. There was an element of grooming. He asked to see her naked.

“He told her he fancied her and wanted them to meet up and have sexual intercourse. But she always made excuses, even when it was suggested that they go ice-skating.

“They progressed to texting each other. She sent him about ten photos of her in her underwear, and he said she was gorgeous and beautiful.”

In a police interview, Davy said he couldn’t recall being told the girl’s age and felt she had looked 18 or 19, the court heard. His sexual interest was in older women, not girls, he had claimed.

Miss Pritchard said that when the police interviewed the girl, she was “somewhat embarrassed and reluctant”.

“She wasn’t angry with Davy, but was more angry with herself for agreeing to do what he asked,” she continued.

“She thought he liked her. She now knows he used her.

“She is scared because she is being bullied at school and being called names. She is receiving support and just wants the whole matter finished.”

Pervert continued to view indecent images of children on a hard drive missed by police during a search of his home

Michael Eastwood

Preston Crown Court heard the storage unit was seized following a visit from an officer from the Dangerous and Sexual Offenders Unit.

Michael Eastwood was already on three years court supervision for possessing and making indecent images of children when the hard drive was discovered.

The court heard the equipment had been overlooked by officers who removed computers from his home in Harrow Avenue, Fleetwood, for the original offence in 2012.

The device contained indecent images of children, plus extreme pornographic material.

Eastwood had managed to keep his earlier offending secret from his family and asked the police officer to pretend he was from the fraud squad.

Eastwood, 58, admitted 10 offences of possessing extreme pornography and indecent images, plus another two of failing to comply with requirements following his previous conviction.

David Clarke, prosecuting, said Eastwood appeared agitated when the officer turned up at his home in October

He said: “The defendant’s wife was told to go upstairs and leave the officer to speak to the defendant.

“They spoke for a few minutes. While that was taking place it was noted there was a computer cabinet in the dining room.

“The defendant then surreptitiously disconnected an external hard drive from the back of the computer. He was challenged about what he had done and claimed at first he was just removing a book.”

The prosecution said the hard drive must have been missed during the previous visit which resulted in his earlier conviction.

Ciaran Rankin, defending, said the home was something of an “Aladdins Cave” with many technical devices.

Judge Michael Byrne was due to hand down his sentence today.

Teen put on sex offender list after admitting having almost 3,000 sick photos of kids

A teenager has been told he must register as a sex offender after being caught with almost 3,000 indecent images of children.

John King pleaded guilty to making and possessing 2,879 sickening pictures when he appeared at a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.

The 19-year-old, of Glencourse, East Boldon, will be sentenced next year but was told he must register his name as a sex offender immediately.

Judge Brian Forster told him: “I can not say what the sentence will be but you must now register as a sex offender with the police.”

The judge said King must keep appointments for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

Judge Forster added: “It is important the judge dealing with the case has as much information about you as possible to understand what has been going on and what the surrounding circumstances are. “

Vic Laffey, defending, said King will be seen by the mental health team before the case is back at court.

Mr Laffey added: “He is 19 years old and never been in any sort of trouble before.”

Man, 45, facing lengthy spell in prison after inciting schoolgirl to get involved in indecent images

A sex offender could face a long prison sentence after he admitted causing and inciting a schoolgirl to get involved in indecent images

Geoffrey Cooper was told prison was “inevitable” today after he pleaded guilty to six child sex offences.

They included causing and inciting an under-age girl to become involved in pornography in March.

The 45-year-old admitted three charges of causing or inciting the schoolgirl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to engage in sexual activity at the same time.

And he pleaded guilty to possessing four indecent photographs of a child in May.

Judge Michael Taylor said: “He’s bound to receive a lengthy custodial sentence.

“In the current climate this warrants one sentence and one sentence alone, and that’s custody.”

Cooper, of Gifford Street, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, denied a further count of arranging a child sex offence.

This charge will be left to lie on the court file.

Prosecutor Rosalind Scott Bell accepted the pleas, saying: “The case is based on a series of text messages between the two and photographs sent between the two.”

Graham Brown, defending, said: “The defendant has come here expecting to be sentenced.

“There are pressures on him. He’s a man of previous good character.

“He’s attended every court hearing and cooperated fully.

“The circumstances as implied from the indictment are quite different from the facts that will be opened to the court.”

Mr Brown said a probation pre-sentence report recommended a non-custodial sentence for Cooper and spoke of his genuine remorse and regret.

Mr Brown added that Cooper had so far enjoyed unconditional bail.

Judge Taylor said: “I take a different view. I have given an indication that a custodial sentence is inevitable.

“If he is to be granted bail it needs to be on very strict terms. I’m minded to remand him in custody.”

At the end of the hearing, he told Cooper he would allow bail “somewhat reluctantly” on stringent conditions banning him from contact with girls under 16 and governing his internet use.

Cooper will be sentenced on December 19. He is now on the sex offenders’ register.

The judge added: “I warn you, in my view custody is inevitable.”

Bideford man admits raping boy, 12, after grooming him on internet

Simon Rockey - Bideford

AN internet predator has admitted raping a boy of 12 after police found incriminating photographs on his Skype account.

Simon Rockey groomed the schoolboy after meeting him on Facebook and lured him back to his home in Bideford where he had sex with him.

He persuaded the boy to continue seeing him for eight months and during that time they exchanged messages on Skype which included images of the boy at his home.

Rockey was warned he faces a long jail sentence after a Judge at Exeter Crown Court ordered a report to assess his dangerousness and remanded him in custody until the New Year.

Rockey, aged 48, of Meddon Street, Bideford, admitted two offences of rape, two of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and five of sexual activity with a child.

Recorder Andrew Oldland said: “I need a report from the probation service simply for the assessment of dangerousness and they will have to look at the grooming and the extent to which it was targeted at this 12-year-old boy. This is also a case in which images were kept.”

Emily Pitts, for the prosecution, said: “The defendant accepts the background, which includes grooming as an aggravating feature. The officer in the case hopes the victim and his family will now be able to provide full impact statements.”

David Sapiecha, for the defence, said evidence from Skype conversations and Rockey’s computer have only been provided in the past two weeks.

He said: “The Skype messages include two images of an indecent nature of the complainant in the defendant’s home. There were 234 pages of Skype messages.

“These offences involved a single child. There were no others and no previous convictions for such matters. Rather than looking for others, this was someone he met on Facebook.

“It is clear from the Skype logs he was not aggressive or exerting pressure on the complainant.”
