WHY was pervert set free from prison to start abusing me? asks victim

John Armstrong Farish

Sitting in her home, John Armstrong Farish’s victim admits that her current calm is a long way from the dark place she was two years ago.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has accused Farish of Westfield View, Flimby, of abuse spanning a number of years, and says his destruction of her childhood innocence has haunted her every day since.

The knowledge that her abuser was jailed for an almost identical offence on another child, only to emerge from prison and eventually assault her has only served to fuel her anger.

In fact, the woman claims that Farish was abusing her at the same time as he must have been abusing the other little girl, but says she was never in a position to report it.

While Farish has denied the majority of the offences, he has accepted that he sexually assaulted her twice when she was aged just 15 – offences which could only have occurred AFTER he was released from his prison sentence.

Looking back on that time, his victim says that he groomed her into believing that what he was doing was right and good.

“He had me convinced that no one loved me,” she explains. “He made me think I was special. What he was saying just worked… it made sense to me.

“I was a mess and he made me feel ‘normal’.

“It was mental abuse as well, he made me feel worthless and yet he was the only one who was nice to me.”

The woman claims that two years ago, on October 21, 2012, Farish turned up to her house with his children and sexually assaulted her again.

This is an accusation that he has also denied in court but, whatever happened, it proved to be the trigger point for his victim.

“I was a mess,” she recalls. “I hit the drink and I couldn’t cope. That’s how it all came out – I couldn’t cope with anything else.

“I was in a pretty low place, so everything came out and I went to the police.”

Despite the horrors of reliving that childhood abuse, the brave woman – a mother herself – agreed to take the stand against her assailant and give evidence at his trial.

Farish’s decision to plead guilty to some charges just days before his trial was due to start has left her with a sense of hollowness and disbelief, as she feels she never got the chance to tell the court of the impact it has had on her.

Combine that with the way in which he was dealt with for his earlier offence, and the woman says she has been left with little respect for “justice”.

“The system is a joke,” she claims.

“Farish had to do a rehabilitation course when he came out – he said afterwards that he knew what to say, so he passed it with flying colours.

“These courses don’t work – they can’t think that they do work can they? He came out of prison and then went on to assault me.

“Sex offenders need to be watched a lot more carefully: they are always going to reoffend.”

Despite her anger, the woman has admitted that the three year prison term handed out to Farish will at least provide her with some temporary relief.

“It’s not enough,” she says, “but while he’s inside he can’t be doing it to anyone else.

“He’s done this to two girls now. Inside, he can’t do it to another one.”

In the latest case, Farish was originally charged with three counts of raping a girl under 16, four counts of indecently assaulting a girl under 14, two counts of gross indecency with a girl under 14, an attempted rape of a girl under 16 and of non-consensual sex with a woman.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of indecently assaulting a girl under-16. He was jailed for three years for each of the offences, with the sentences to run concurrently.

He has been placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Former Bury UKIP chairman jailed for grooming children & 200,000 child abuse images

ukip

A FORMER chairman of Bury’s UK Independence Party has been jailed for grooming children and possessing nearly 200,000 indecent images of children.

Peter Entwistle spoke to children on MSN Messenger and other social network sites in a sexualised manner, asking them to commit sexual acts for his own satisfaction, Bolton Crown Court heard today.

The 52-year-old named himself the ‘Naughty Doctor’, using an explicit picture of two women as his profile picture, and spoke to a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, who he believed was a girl.

In addition, when police officers raided his house in January 25 last year, they found thousands of indecent images of children stored on a number of computers, USB sticks and some which had been printed out.

Entwistle was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to 21 counts at an earlier hearing, including possessing and distributing indecent images of children as well as inciting and the attempted inciting of children to commit sexual acts.

He will be placed on the sexual offenders register for life, and would be subject to a sexual offences prevention order.

The court was told that Entwistle, of Broad Oak Lane, Bury, had one previous conviction of indecently exposing himself to a woman in the 1980s, but had otherwise had a clean record.

Iain Simkin, defending Entwistle, read out a letter to the court from Alistair Burt, who was the MP for Bury North from 1983 to 1997, which referenced his good character .

Judge Elliot Knopf added: “You are now 52-years-old, and you have, until these matters, led an exemplary life, which is attributed to by various letters I have received from people ranging from family, colleagues, the rector of churches and an MP.”

The court was also told that Entwistle was seeking treatment from a psychiatrist for depression.

He was a founder member of Bury UKIP in March 2011, and resigned as party chairman in January 2013.

Neasden man jailed for keeping stash of child abuse images

h

Ireneusz Gawryluk, of Tanfield Avenue, was snared after police received a tip-off about his sickening stash which covered all three categories.

Officers raided an address in Colindale where they seized computer equipment and on analysis his tablet was found to contain various indecent images of children of level A to C (the worst).

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent photos of children and three charges of possession of an indecent photo of a child.

He was jailed for four months, placed on the sex offenders register for seven years and handed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for life last week.

Peter Saunders from the National Association for People Abused in Childhood told the Times he felt Gawryluk has been given a light sentence.

He added: “It is unacceptable that he could be a free man in as little as two months.

“The children involved would have been abused to satisfy the needs of vile creatures like Gawryluk.”

Former Colwyn Bay rail worker sexually abused girl in signal boxes

A former British Rail worker was yesterday warned he faced an “extremely lengthy” jail term after being convicted of sexually abusing a girl in signal boxes.

John Linegar, 74, of Grovesnor Road, Colwyn Bay was found guilty by a Caernarfon crown court jury of five rape charges involving her and five indecent assaults .

The jury were discharged after failing to reach verdicts on three further charges involving two other alleged abuse victims.

Judge Rhys Rowlands told Linegar, who was remanded in custody: “The sentence will be extremely lengthy, well into double figures.”

The prosecution will consider whether to seek another trial on the outstanding charges.

Opening the case, prosecutor Simon Mills told the jury Linegar denied all the allegations “saying they were lies.”

The rape victim, now in her 40s, recalled he had been a signalman at Chester and nearby Helsby and Shotton.

She told the jury: “He worked alone in signal boxes, it gave him the opportunity.”

She added: ”All I have managed to do is bury it or brush it under the carpet. It has dominated my life, my relationships and friendships.”

Linegar showed no emotion as the verdicts were announced.

Wirral pensioner caught with indecent images

kneen

A pensioner was found with hundreds of indecent images of children after Merseyside police were tipped off by Canadian officers investigating an international exploitation ring.

More than 1,000 vile images were found on Geoffrey Kneen’s laptop, as well as a “pre-internet” file containing a collage of pictures of naked boys.

The 68-year-old’s Wirral home was searched after a Toronto police-led operation uncovered a firm selling explicit images of Eastern European children.

Kneen pleaded guilty to eight charges of making, which typically means downloading, and possessing indecent images of children at Wirral magistrates’ court last month. His collection contained 34 pictures classed as Category B and 1,265 of Category C. Category A is the most severe under Crown Prosecution Service guidelines.

He was arrested after police in Canada exposed a multi-million dollar child exploitation operation, finding records of those who had purchased products from a firm called Azov Films.

The producers of the movies sold through the company have been convicted in their respective countries, according to Toronto police.

Neil Addison, prosecuting at Liverpool crown court, said: “This was an investigation by police following information from Canadian police in Toronto who had raided a site known as Azov Films, a company who it transpired were selling indecent photos. The police investigated the servers of Azov Films and a large number of people in the UK were on that and details were passed on. One of them was Mr Kneen, and his email address, stating in 2010 he had purchased a total of four DVDs.”

The DVDs contained scenes taken from Crimea, an area that was formerly part of Ukraine until it was annexed by Russia earlier this year.

When police searched Kneen’s home on Greenbank Road, West Kirby, they found a total of nine DVDs and “a file described as containing a collage of images of naked boys aged approximately 8-16 years” described as “pre-internet” by Mr Addison.

Kate Morley, defending, said: “Not only has he pleaded guilty, as soon as officers attended his home address he accepted the email address was his and he purchased the DVDs.”

She added he would welcome help and that the case had cost him his relationship with his family – with him also looking to move home after “some noise in respect to the local community”.

Ms Morley said: “There have already been devastating consequences as a result of his actions.”

Sentencing him to a three year community order, Judge Lewis said: “You suggested bizarrely [when interviewed] that some of these boys in these photos and scenes appear to be happy at what was happening to them.

“You don’t appear to have considered what inducements or perhaps force was being used to persuade them to comply… anyone who thinks that offences of this kind are victimless is hugely misguided.”

Pervert found guilty of 14 sexual offences against 14 year old girl

penge

A 64-year-old man has been jailed for 11 years after being found guilty of 14 sexual offences.

Nand Joshi, 64, raped and indecently assaulted a 14-year-old girl, beginning in 1994.

Joshi, of Queen Adelaide Road, Penge, began his campaign of abuse after the girl arrived in the UK with her mother and younger brother.

He was sentenced to 11 years in prison after being found guilty of seven counts of rape, and sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of seven counts of sexual assault, to run concurrently.

He has been put on the sex offenders register for life.

Joshi first sexually assaulted the teenager when he, the victim, and others were all sleeping in the same room.

Over a three year period, his victim was raped or sexually assaulted around once or twice a month.

Having access to a property in Bayswater, he would take his victim there to rape her.

Joshi would also write to her teachers requesting for her to leave school early, so he could continue to abuse her.

Detective Constable Manraj Sanghera, from the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Investigation Team said: “The victim has shown great strength of character, she found the courage to come forward and speak about her terrible ordeal and because of this justice has been done.”

Joshi was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, after being found guilty at the same court on Wednesday.

He was initially arrested at his home on April 12 last year, and charged on February 26.

Hemsby man gets suspended jail term for possessing more than 1000 indecent images of children

A man found with more than 1000 indecent images of children stored on his computer equipment has been given a 20 month jail term suspended for two years and ordered to go on a treatment programme to help prevent him re-offending.

Warren Sparkes, 43, was found to have indecent child images stored on two computers when his home was raided by police, Norwich Crown Court heard.

It was also found that Sparkes had also swapped 29 indecent images with other people over the internet, a court was told.

Chris Youell, prosecuting, said Sparkes had been frank with probation about his offending and said: “He accepted he did gather these images for sexual gratification.”

Sparkes, who gave his address as the Florida Holiday Park, Hemsby, admitted possession of 1076 indecent images and distributing 29 indecent images on October 25, last year.

He also admitted possession of extreme porn.

Sentencing him, Recorder David Pugh said Sparkes had shown remorse but told him that accessing indecent images of children was not a “victimless crime.”

As well as imposing a 20 month suspended sentence, Recorder Pugh also ordered Sparkes to attend a Thames Valley sex offender treatment programme to help prevent him re-offending

He also placed Sparkes on the sex offender’s register for 10 years and made him subject to a sexual offences prevention order, under which he must not have unsupervised contact with anyone under 16. Under the order Sparkes internet use can also be monitored.

Michael Clare, for Sparkes, said : “He takes full responsibility for his behaviour. He has shown genuine remorse.”

He said that Sparkes had described his actions as an “addiction” and had already sought psychotherapy to help him.

He said Sparkes was of previous good character.

“Champion” foster carer from Swansea Valley exposed as lifelong paedophile

purn

A “champion” foster carer from the Swansea Valley has been exposed as a lifelong paedophile.

Christopher Purnell, aged 62, was downloading child abuse images until days before he was arrested more than 30 years after he began offending.

Purnell, once the chairman of his local county-wide foster carers association, had also set up a helpline for children in distress.

But a jury at Swansea Crown Court heard he was one of the perverts causing the distress.

Purnell was convicted of 22 offences of indecency with a child, indecent assault, sexual activity with a child and making indecent photographs. He was jailed for seven and a half years and ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for life.

Purnell, of Minyrhos, Ystradgynlais, South Wales, had denied the charges and called his accusers liars.

The jury heard that police computer experts were able to discover that Purnell had trawled the internet using terms like “teenage nudist, “boys in licra tights” and “boys in boxers.”

Purnell told the jury he had been researching material for a book he was writing on naturism. But it was never published.

John Hipkin, prosecuting, asked Purnell what the searches had to do with naturism.

One man told how Purnell had taken photographs of him naked when he was a boy, telling him he had a customer who paid according to how dirty they were.

The man said he agreed to pose because he thought the money might lead to a better life.

“He kept on and on about a man willing to pay thousands of pounds for real photographs of my genitals. Even afterwards he asked me for more and more, saying the first ones had not been valuable enough,” added the witness.

He said Purnell threatened that he could use his power to have him put into a remand home if he did not co-operate.

Purnell boasted to one boy about his importance in fostering, and how he liaised with the local authority’s social services department.

Purnell also got a teenage boy drunk. The boy woke up the following morning without any pyjamas on and “feeling really bad.”

Det Con Simon Davies said three of Purnell’s computers turned out to be of interest. One showed that he had downloaded child abuse images at 3.31am on January 28, 2012, only a few days before he was arrested and while his innocent wife Susan had been asleep in bed.

Mr Hipkin said Purnell’s sex offending dated back to 1982, when he indecently assaulted a boy, an offence for which he was convicted. He was also found guilty of making indecent photographs of a child in 2012, as well as 20 crimes in between.

After the jury returned guilty verdicts, one of Purnell’s victims said: “No-one could say anything against him in those days, he was a champion of fostering. And no-one was going to believe what I had to say.

“He was always going on about he was chairman of this, chairman of that. At the age he assaulted me it is very worrying and I accepted what I was told.

“Now, Purnell is where he belongs, in jail,” he added.

Coylton paedophile pensioner finally jailed

currie

A pensioner has been jailed after molesting two girls and offering them hush money.

Sex beast James Currie, 75, was finally jailed for 10 months after several deferred sentences dating back to November last year.

The Coylton-based predator, who was known to his 13 and 17-year-old victims as “uncle”, sexually assaulted the eldest victim at a home in Dalrymple and during a car journey to Ayr on April 7 last year.

Mercedes driving Currie, who has three previous convictions for indecency dating from 2002, also admitted sexually assaulting the younger girl on the same day in Ayr.

Both admissions came after his victims were forced to give evidence in court.

In sentencing, Sheriff John Montgomery said: “In my opinion it’s a poor (social work) report, it describes you as having no empathy whatsoever with your victims.

It describes you as presenting a significant risk of further harm. “The only appropriate disposal is a custodial sentence.”

During his trial, the 13-year-old girl said she had been paid £5 to carry out an hour’s cleaning work at Currie’s home, telling the court that he rubbed the inside of her thigh despite attempts to push him away.

The 17-year-old who gave evidence behind a screen broke down in tears as she described how she suffered a similar ordeal as she was being driven home by Currie.

Telling the court that she felt “cheap”, she told how Currie said: “Why do stuff with boys when you can get money for it from me.”

Both girls said that their tormentor offered them money not to tell their family what he had done but they told their grandmother who in turn reported the incidents to the police.

As well as his 10 month jail term, Currie will be prevented from having any unsupervised contact with children for five years and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years

‘Sexual, sadistic motivation’ for murder of 14 year old boy

5

The grieving mother of a 14-year-old boy who was murdered by a baby-faced online predator has warned parents that more needs to be done to protect children on the internet.

Breck Bednar was stabbed to death after travelling from his home in Caterham, Surrey to Grays, Essex to meet up with a fellow computer gamer, Lewis Daynes, 19 pictured above

Daynes, who was described as computer genius, had groomed Breck – the son of a millionaire oil trader – online through a gaming community he ran.

Once he was in his flat he murdered the fellow teenager in what the prosecution claim was a “sadistic and sexually motivated” attack.

The computer engineer, who looks much younger than his 19-years, had initially denied murder, but dramatically changed his plea as he was about to stand trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.

He will be sentenced in January, but speaking outside court, Breck’s mother Lorin Lafave, warned that online predators posed a very real danger to youngsters everywhere.

Fighting back tears, the American, whose son was killed on her birthday, said: “I want Breck’s tragedy to help open the eyes of everyone to recognise the dangers of online predators.

It is a very real danger today. We all need to look after each other.“We have set the Breck Bednar Memorial Foundation to help raise money and awareness to help protect all of our children from danger.

I’ll never stop missing my Breck.”She added: “I am heartbroken and lost without my Breck and I will never be the same.

He was murdered on my birthday this year and so much of me died as well.“My poor triplets lost not only their adored big brother but also their mother. Breck was my amazing, clever, beautiful boy.

A beautiful son, who we will miss forever. He had so much potential he will never now reach – he had so much to give to this world.”

Richard Whittam QC, prosecuting, told the court the murder had been “sexually or sadistically motivated”.

He went on: “The prosecution case was that at the time of his murder Breck was aged 14. The law makes specific provision for the murder of a child involving sexual or sadistic motivation.

The prosecution have advanced the case on that basis and anticipate doing that again on the date of sentence.”Breck’s American father, Barry Bednar, a wealthy oil trader was also in court for the hearing.

There was a stunned silence in court as Daynes, who was wearing a grey suit and blue tie, pleaded guilty to one charge of murder of a child.

Simon Mayo QC, mitigating, said: “For our part we would not be in the position to provide my lady with the assistance she needs [to sentence] for a few weeks.”

Police were called to a flat in Grays, Essex, on February 17 this year following reports that a man had been stabbed.

When they arrived they found Breck with stab wounds to his neck. Despite the efforts of the police and paramedics he died at the scene.

After the brutal killing Ms LaFave spoke of her fears that a “predator” had preyed on her son via a secretive gaming forum.

Miss LaFave, a US-born teaching assistant said: “Breck was a clever, good and helpful boy. Like most teenagers, socialising, computers and games were what he enjoyed.

The problem was a predator who was trying to control his ideology about religion, government, family, education.

Breck looked up to him because of his interesting manner and computer skills.

Breck couldn’t see the bad and when I pointed out his obvious lies, they were overlooked by Breck, his friends, and unfortunately the police.

Breck may have been shy when we saw cousins over three years ago, however he is actually very calm, clever and confident young man.“Unfortunately too confident and independent to believe my warnings.”

International search for convicted paedophile who sexually abused 13 year old girl

kry

An international search is underway for a sex offender who went on the run before he was found guilty of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

Detectives today released a photograph of Krzysztof Zalewski and urged the public to help them trace him.

Interpol and police forces across the UK have also been informed that he is a wanted man.

The 31-year-old married man, formerly of Lakin Drive, Thorpe Astley, went on the run before he was put on trial and convicted of sexually abusing the child earlier this month.

He was jailed for seven years and placed on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

The jury which found him guilty of five of six counts of unlawful sexual activity with a child was not told the reason for his absence.

Police today said the Polish national, who committed his crimes within weeks of returning from his honeymoon, could be in the UK although it was also possible he has fled overseas.

Detective Sergeant Mark Sinski, of Leicestershire Police’s serious crime team, said: “We have conducted a number of lines of inquiry with other agencies in an attempt to locate Zalewski’s whereabouts but to date these have all proved negative.

“There is some suggestion that he may be abroad, but we have no evidence to support this at this time.

“However we have carried out inquiries with Interpol and his details have been logged on the Police National Computer, which is accessible to all police forces in the country.

“If you recognise the man in the image or you have any information about his whereabouts then please get in touch.”

During the two-day trial, the court heard Zalewski sexually abused the child on two separate occasions.

James House, prosecuting told the hearing the defendant was on his own in a room with the child when he committed sex acts with her in September last year.

She later sent a text message to a friend saying she had lost her virginity to an older man and described what had taken place.

Zalewski sent her messages telling her to keep it “a secret” and suggesting they meet for sex again.

Zalewski then sexually assaulted her on a second occasion.

When arrested and interviewed by police he claimed he believed his victim was 16, saying she “looked and acted” older and blamed her for having seduced him.

The girl told the jury he was well aware of her age.

After being sexually abused, she was left feeling “used and angry.”

St Ives man Paul Salt who took pictures of girls on the beach and had 4,000 indecent images avoids jail

Paul Salt leaving Truro Crown Court.

A RECLUSIVE man from St Ives, who had more than 4,000 indecent images of children and believes that adults should legally be allowed to have sex with children, has avoided jail.

Police seized Paul Salt’s computer following concerned reports about “secret photographs of young girls” on the beach he had been uploading to a website for artists, Truro Crown Court heard on Tuesday.

Philip Lee, for the prosecution, said there was no evidence to suggest these images were part of the offences.

But officers went to the 40-year-old’s home on November 21, 2013 and when they arrived, Salt told officers he had always enjoyed naturist pictures of girls and was interested in girls aged five to 18.

He said he had never seen anything more beautiful than young girls but that they did not sexually arouse him.

The court heard Salt had been questioned before by police about matters which had not been proceeded with.

However, at an earlier hearing, Salt, of St Johns Walk, pleaded guilty to nine counts of making indecent images, which were photographs and movies, of children between July 22, 2008 and November 21, 2013.

The images were said to cover all categories on the range police use to categorise such material with A being the most serious and C being the least.

The majority of the material – more than 4,000 still images and 55 movies – fell into Category C.

Mr Lee said there was no evidence that the beach images were part of the offences or that a camera and memory stick seized by the police had been used to commit offences, and the court ordered that they be returned to him.

A forfeiture order was made in respect of his computer.

Adrian Chaplin, for the defence, said Salt had been frank with the authorities during the course of the inquiry.

He said the photos of people and young girls on the beach were not the subject of any concern that they had been indecent.

He said: “[The public] shouldn’t be alarmed to think that the opportunity has been taken to take compromising photographs.”

Mr Chaplin said Salt intended to address the concerns that his actions had provoked.

Sentencing Salt to eight months in prison suspended for two years, Judge Christopher Harvey Clark, QC, said: “You delight in looking at photographic images of young girls, either naked or semi-clothed and according to the pre-sentence report, you apparently believe that children should be permitted to have sexual relationships with each other and with adults.”

Judge Harvey Clark said Salt, who was a recluse, believed our society was at fault for having a law prohibiting sex with children aged under 16.

He said: “Let me tell you that the society in which we live … regards your attitudes and opinions as wrong.”

Salt was ordered to take part in an internet sex offenders’ treatment programme and be under the supervision of the probation service for two years. He was also made the subject of a two-month curfew between 8pm to 6am daily.

He was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for the next ten years and made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order indefinitely.

Caversham couple jailed for child cruelty ‘bordering on the sadistic’

Hopkins

Stephanie Hopkins (pictured) was jailed for 20 months

A couple from Caversham have been jailed for child cruelty after putting two youngsters through abuse.

Michelle, 33, and Stephanie Hopkins, 32, of Nire Road, locked the children in a room for so long, one was forced to urinate on the floor.

A toy was burned on a barbecue and the older child was “punched in the face”.

The pair both admitted, at a previous hearing, to two counts of cruelty to children under 16 years.

Lisa Goddard, prosecuting, previously told the court the charges related to a period between 2011 and 2012.

The older child reported to another adult that it was being punched and strangled.

Miss Goddard said the child told the adult it had been threatened with being taken away to somewhere where “people would have sex” with the child. Both women denied they had said this.

She said the older child also said it had been smacked on the bum and mouth by Stephanie.

Miss Goddard described the women’s behaviour as “bordering on the sadistic”.

The court heard how the defendants had co-operated with police and made a statement admitting some of the allegations made by the older child, including the toy incident.

David Lyons, defending Stephanie, said she had given a basis of plea at the earliest possible stage and “stuck to her guns”, admitting she had done some things described in the allegations, but not others.

He said the toy was not the child’s favourite, but one acquired only three weeks before, adding that what happened did “not amount to sadistic behaviour”.

He said the assaults were common assault without inflicting injury.

Marilyn Vitte, defending Michelle, said she was “incredibly remorseful of her behaviour throughout the incidents”. Miss Vitte said Michelle had health problems which added to the difficulties.

Michelle admitted smacking on the basis described by Mr Lyons, but did not admit “strangling”.

Stephanie’s admission was based on being present and permitting it to happen.

At the women’s sentencing on November 6, Judge Joanna Cutts said: “You behaved in a cruel way.”

She sentenced Michelle to 18 months’ prison on count one and 13-and-a-half months on count two, while Stephanie received 20 months on both counts, both women’s sentences to run concurrently.

Merseyside teacher banned from the classroom after viewing indecent images of children

A former Merseyside lecturer who admitted viewing indecent photographs of children has been banned from the classroom for life.

Mark Donaldson Bryson, 53, was arrested in September 2011 for the making and possession of indecent images.

He admitted making indecent photographs of children or pseudo-photographs of children and was cautioned for the offence in March 2013.

Police reported Bryson, who taught at further education colleges in the North West, to the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) in January this year.

A Professional Conduct Panel has now recommended he should be banned from teaching for life.

The panel’s report said: “In the panel’s judgment the viewing of indecent photographs of children over a prolonged period of time clearly amount to serious misconduct on the part of Mr Bryson.

“It is behaviour which is incompatible with the standards of conduct expected of teachers and may well bring the profession into disrepute.”

The panel was told Bryson had received counselling and had expressed “great remorse” for his actions.

Bryson did not attend the meeting in Coventry but the panel heard he did not intend to return to teaching.

The report said: “The panel has not had the benefit of knowing the precise number of images involved or the seriousness of the images.

“However, the panel is of the view that the viewing of any indecent photographs of children, at whatever level of seriousness, contributes towards harm to children.

“Whilst the panel notes that Mr Bryson states that he currently has no intention of returning to teaching, the panel must be conscious of the fact that that is something which might change in the future.”

He added: “In the panel’s view the conduct in question is so unacceptable that only a prohibition order can meet the public interest in this case and must outweigh the effect of any order either on Mr Bryson personally or on his family.

The order bars Bryson from teaching indefinitely in any school, sixth form college, youth accommodation or children’s home in England.

He has a right to appeal the order within 28 days.

Man pleads guilty to making indecent images of children

A BOURNEMOUTH man has pleaded guilty to making indecent photographs of children and possessing extreme pornography.

James Robert Chadwick, 36, of Hamilton Road, Bournemouth, appeared in Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday facing 18 counts, involving more than 100 images of children, including some videos.

He was also charged with possession of extreme pornography, including 64 images containing threats to a person’s life. Most of the charges relate to a period between February and May last year.

Mr Chadwick had been due to stand trial, but was arraigned again and pleaded guilty to all counts before the court on Monday.

Defending David Richards said Chadwick had been diagnosed with high-functioning Asperger’s since the trail began, and asked the court to allow time for a psychological report to be prepared to help determine his level of culpability, given his medical diagnosis.

The case was adjourned until January 26 next year.

Broughty Ferry pensioner caught with abuse images

A former company director with a “fetish for spanking” was found with more than 250 indecent images of children aged from four upwards being spanked.

Police found 112 “live” indecent still images of children aged between five and 15 and 146 “live” indecent videos of children aged between four and 16 at the home of 78-year-old George Bonar, who had paid to download them from a
Canadian website.

Bonar, of Albany Road, Broughty Ferry, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday where he admitted that, on or between July 14 2012 and April 26 this year, at his home address or elsewhere unknown, he took or permitted to be taken or made indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of children.

He further admitted that on the same dates and places he possessed indecent photos or pseudo photographs of children.

Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court Bonar was a retired company director with no previous convictions.

She said police were given intelligence on December 21 last year, of an online purchase which was linked to the accused.

She said: “These films showed young pre-teen males and were assessed by law enforcement in Canada to be of an indecent nature.”

Ms Robertson said at 9.25am on Monday April 28 this year, two detectives went to Bonar’s home and asked to see his computer to see if there were any indecent images of children on it.

The accused consented to a search and told police that he had a fetish for spanking and that there would be images of children being spanked found on his computer.

The images found on his computer were of children of both sexes, the fiscal said, with 105 at level one (the least indecent) and seven at level five on the scale.

Police also found two deleted images at level one of boys aged 13-14 from the computer’s hard drive.

In addition, of the 146 video images found from the computer’s hard drive, five were at level one, three were level three and 138 were at level five on the scale, with a total running time of more than six hours and four minutes.

On a separate hard drive there were also seven videos at level five, with a running time of 37 minutes and 31 seconds.

Ms Robertson made a motion for forfeiture of the computer tower which was granted by Sheriff Alastair Brown.

Solicitor Kevin Hampton said while 145 of the video images were at the highest level on the scale, it was because there was an element of corporal punishment and harm was being experienced that it was classed as level five.

He said a cyber crime expert had confirmed to him that some level four images were much worse.

Sheriff Brown said with that number of level five videos he might have thought it would have made prison inevitable.

However, on the basis of Mr Hampton’s explanation, which he asked the Crown to confirm by the sentencing date, and they “did not involve the infliction of any injury other than that which might be inflicted by an open hand or similar instrument”, he would grant the accused bail.

The sheriff told Bonar he was now subject to the sex offenders register in the interim period and deferred sentence for social work and restriction of liberty order reports until December 23.

Serial bus flasher jailed after being found in possession of child abuse images

st

A serial flasher has been jailed for a year after being found in possession of child abuse images.

Stephen Theyer was banned from using public transport in 2010 after a series of sexual offences, including exposing himself on buses and masturbating in public.

Gloucester Crown Court heard when police went to the 44-year-old’s home in December last year he was found to have viewed and deleted the indecent pictures, as well as having a stash of legal adult pornography.

Prosecutor Charles Row told the court officers found images of children, where children were naked and in naturist poses on his iPhone, and further investigations revealed he had looked at and deleted 46 others.

Mr Row said he had offences dating back to 2003 and had previously been made to sign the Sexual Offenders’ Register as well as being made the subject of prevention orders.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC said Theyer of Gloucester Road in Staverton had a major problem with his libido and had previously been imprisoned and twice been on the Thames Valley Sex Offenders’ Program, aimed at rehabilitation.

The judge told Theyer in some ways he was a man to be pitted. He said: “You have a disability as far as your leg is concerned and undoubtedly you are a very lonely man.

“But I cannot over look that in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012 you were out and about exposing yourself and masturbating in public.

“You have a major problem with your libido and your sexual compass.”

Defending Sarah Jenkins said Theyer came across the images as pop ups while on adult sites, but had a particular power to deceive himself.

She said: “They were opened and it appears they were deleted very soon after.

“What was found was a vast amount of legal pornography and a relatively small amount of indecent images.

“He has pleaded guilty because he accepts what he has done. He did not try to destroy the phone or hide it.

“There is no evidence he had been deliberately hiding it. He is a man that is well versed in the regime.

“He is described as being a loner. He suffers from high levels of anxiety. He is very isolated.

“He spends a great deal of time confined to his house and in particular the bedroom.

“Bearing in mind he does have a relatively long history he is nervous about going out and meeting new people through fear of what they might find out about him.”

Theyer pleaded guilty to four counts of making indecent images between November 7 and 11, 2013 and one charge of possessing indecent images between December 1 and 5, last year.

The judge ordered he sign the SOR for a further 10 years and put in place another SOPO, including the restriction on public transport for a further seven years.

Barnham man sent to prison for ‘appalling’ crimes

1

A BARNHAM man who carried out ‘wicked and depraved’ abuse has been jailed for 16 years for sexually assaulting two young children.

Sean Armstrong, 48, of Market Close, was handed down the term at Chichester Crown Court on Friday after he previously pleaded guilty to 12 counts which included raping a child, sexual assault, engaging a child in sexual activity and making indecent images of a child.

Judge Christopher Parker QC said: “You have carried out some wicked and depraved activities and you assaulted such small helpless victims in a way that is impossible for any normal person to understand.

“You have caused an impossible trauma to the parents.

“You carried out appalling cases of sexual abuse on a tiny child.”

Judge Parker said some of the sentences he passed would also be subject to a period of extended licence and he also ordered a life-long sexual prevention order be put in place.

The court heard Armstrong was arrested in July after it was discovered between September, 2007, and June, 2009, he had sexually abused a child.

These offences had only come to light after Armstrong was arrested in December of last year for offences against another child.

Mr Gardiner, prosecuting, said Armstrong’s crimes had a ‘devastating impact’ on the victims.

“I would refer your honour to the victim impact statements.

“I do not think it is appropriate to go through those in open court but I think from reading them you will see it is safe to say these crimes have had a devastating impact on the victims’ families.”

Miss Shields, defending, told the court Armstrong, who she said was of previous good character, was ‘racked with guilt’.

She said: “He is also wishing to apologise through me to the families of these children for the appalling wrong that he has done them.

“He does accept these crimes are sickening and deeply concerning and will have inevitably left deep scars on the victims.

“By pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity available to him he has at least spared the families the trauma of a full criminal trial.”

Miss Shields added that Armstrong had broken down and was unable to give any reason for his actions.
