A PAEDOPHILE from St Austell who looked at indecent images of children aged as young as 5 has it “in his make-up” to be sexually attracted to children, a judge has said.
At Truro Crown Court on Monday, Barry Walling, 46, was jailed for possessing and making indecent images of children aged between 5 and 13.
The latest offences meant, Walling, of Truro Road, who has previously been sent to prison for indecently assaulting children, breached his licence conditions.
Walling was jailed in 2005 for a series of indecent assaults on youngsters and was made the subject of an extended sentence.
The court heard the new offences put him in breach of the terms of his release from this sentence and that he had been recalled to prison and would not be released until May 2016.
He was also convicted in 2004 of indecent assault and possessing indecent images of children.
Elaine Hobson, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said a police officer visited Walling on November 5 because he was suspected of having indecent images.
Ms Hobson said Walling’s laptop was seized and officers found a number of pornographic still photographs and movies of children on it.
She said: “[In interview] he said he knew he had been convicted previously of offences in relation to this type of offence and he also had convictions for contact offences against children.”
She added that Walling also revealed how he used a software programme in an attempt to try to mask his identification when downloading the material.
She said: “He denied that he had been in one-to-one contact with other users [of child pornography] and denies any contact with other children. Mr Walling is interested, it seems, in very young children.”
Ramsay Quaife, for the defence, said Walling had made admissions during his police interview and had co-operated during the investigation.
Judge John Neligan said: “Your client’s problem is that it is in his make-up that he is sexually attracted to children and that is borne out by his previous convictions …
“That is in his make up; it is part of his metabolism.”
Walling admitted eight counts of making indecent images of children at levels one to five on the scale police use to categorise such material, with five being the highest.
He also pleaded guilty to seven counts of possessing still images and movies.
Walling was jailed for 30 months and ordered to comply with a sexual offences prevention order for the rest of his life.
