Jail for pervert who lured teen with porn and alcohol

A PERVERT who lured a teenager to his home with the offer of porn and alcohol has been jailed for three years.

William McNeil met the 14-year-old, who was an acquaintance, in Derby city centre before they caught the bus to his flat in Highfield Road.

Derby Crown Court heard that McNeil had been convicted of sexual offences on four other occasions.

The last offence was in 2004 when he met a 15-year-old on a bus and when they got off the vehicle engaged in a sex act with him. He was released from prison in 2011.

For the latest offence, which took place on April 17, the 49-year-old was jailed for three years but has been told he will be closely watched by the authorities until 2021.

Handing McNeil a three-year prison sentence with a five-year extended licence period, Recorder Timothy Raggatt QC said: “Because of your history and risk, I’m satisfied you impose a danger to young boys in puberty.”

He said the sentence he was passing was designed to ensure he was “monitored closely” so the public were not at risk.

The recorder added: “He knows if he reverts to type that, in effect, a very lengthy suspended sentence is hanging over his head.”

The court heard that the boy had asked McNeil for a cigarette when they met in an alleyway off St Peter’s Street.

McNiel then suggested they go back to his flat to watch porn.

The boy agreed and McNiel paid for his bus fare and then gave him a bottle of beer.

At his flat, McNeil played pornographic material and then asked to perform a sex act on him, said prosecutor Martin Hurst.

The boy then fled the flat.

In court, McNeil admitted inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Balraj Bhatia, in mitigation, said: “This was not predatory behaviour – it was a chance meeting.

“There were no threats, no use of violence and when he tried to leave he did not try to stop him.”

Mr Bhatia said McNeil saw himself as much a victim because of experiences he had when he was younger.

“He has to concede because he has not had counselling to address the issue, it has grown with him and therefore he realises it’s a problem.”

McNeil will be on the sex offenders’ register for life and must obey a sex offences prevention order for an indefinite period.

The order includes banning him from approaching boys in public places and from entering any educational premises for people under 16.

The recorder said he hoped McNeil would take part in custody in courses to help him address his problem.

Sex attacker tied up young girl and made her perform indecent act

A sex attacker tied up a seven-year-old girl and forced her to perform indecent acts on him.

John Telfer was jailed for the offences he committed while he was a teenager 40 years ago.

The 55-year-old blindfolded one young girl before tying her wrists and made her perform a sexual act on him, the High Court in Edinburgh heard.

Telfer was around 16 years old at the time when he made another girl, who was around seven, perform an indecent act on him.

Lord Bannatyne was presented with a stack of letters and testimonials pleading for leniency for Telfer. But the judge said they were of limited value because most of those who spoke up for Telfer believed he was innocent and had been wrongly convicted.

He also rejected an argument from defence advocate Tony Graham, claiming that if Telfer had been caught back in the 1970s he would not have gone to prison.

Lord Bannatyne added: “These children were young and what happened to them was totally abhorrent and shouldn’t happen to any child.” He told Telfer: “I believe I would be failing in my public duty to impose anything other than a custodial sentence in the circumstances of this case.”

Telfer, of Dalry, North Ayrshire, denied committing offences dating back to January 1974 at an address in Shotts, North Lanarkshire. But a jury found him guilty.

On Friday he was jailed for two years and three months for the sex offences. His lawyer Mr Graham said this was the only time he had been in trouble.

The lawyer described the offences as an aberration in Telfer’s youth which had been followed by 40 years of behaviour as a worthwhile and widely-respected member of the community.

Passing sentence, Lord Bannatyne said he was also taking into account the evidence of one of Telfer’s victims who told the court that her experience had not affected her badly.

Speaking to STV after the verdict, one of his victims explained how the abuse had affected her life.

“My family came into contact with his through the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The abuse happened 38 years ago but it has always stayed with me. It led to me having a mental breakdown.

“I was happy he got sentenced at all today and that people believed me and that now he’s sitting in jail. It is not going to change my life overnight but it is a start.”

Paedophile who groomed 14-year-old Peterborough girl jailed

55

A paedophile who groomed his 14-year-old victim with burgers and cigarettes has been locked up for more than three years.

Muhammed Waqas (23) made hundreds of phone calls and text messages to the young girl in Peterborough, before persuading her to have sex in the back of a car in Dogsthorpe.

On Wednesday Waqas was jailed for three years and nine months, and told he would be deported after completing the sentence.

Waqas initially denied sexual activity with a child, but pleaded guilty, and was sentenced by Judge Nic Madge at Peterborough Crown Court.

Sentencing, Judge Madge said: “Everyone knows that the age of consent in this country is 16.

“There is considerable public concern about older men who groom vulnerable girls in their early teens and have sex with them.

“Rightly so.

“That is why men who have sex with 13, 14 and 15 year old girls must expect to go to prison. In this court we treat such offences very seriously.”

The court heard Waqas, of Small Heath, Birmingham, arranged to meet two 14 year old girls in February.

He took them to a McDonald’s, bought them burgers and gave them cigarettes. He then ‘bombarded’ them with phone calls – 357 to his victim, and 46 to her friend.

In March, while visiting friends in Peterborough he agreed to meet this victim and another girl.

Again, you took them to McDonald’s and gave them cigarettes, before taking the girls to Dogsthorpe, where he had sex with one of them.

The girl’s friend was sat in the front of the car at the time, listening to music through headphones.

A victim impact statement was read out to the court, with the girl saying she still has sleepless nights as a result of the incident.

Rajinder Gill, defending, said the defendant was ‘immature’ for his age, and his father was seriously ill in his native Pakistan. He added Waqas had no previous convictions.

Detective Inspector Simon Harding said: “Waqas groomed his victim by sending her texts then arranging to meet.

“He was fully aware she was only 14 but still had sex with her, while her friend was also in the car. Waqas preyed on her vulnerability to satisfy his own desires. Such behaviour is not acceptable, the victim showed great courage to come forward to police and we are pleased he has now been brought to justice.”

Folkestone man jailed for child sex offences

Folkestone man jailed for child sex offences

A sex offender from Folkestone has been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to 15 counts of making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

David Neve, 61, was arrested at his home address in Coolinge Lane following a search warrant by child protection officers in August last year.

Various items of computer equipment were seized and found to contain over 350 indecent images of children, ranging from levels one to five. Nine moving videos were also found.

Neve was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty at Canterbury Crown Court.

He will be subject to a sexual offences prevention order indefinitely and his name will appear on the sex offenders’ register.

Detective Constable Jon Baker, from Kent Police’s child exploitation investigation team, said: “This offender had images of children as young as 12 months old and this was recognised by the court as an aggravating factor.

“People must understand that children of all ages are abused to fuel the sick fantasies of those who care little for their welfare. Kent Police will work with all agencies in its endeavours to bring to justice those who abuse and to safeguard and protect the abused.”

Teaching assistant jailed for child sex offences

Samuel Bradley - Dinnington

A teaching assistant who texted indecent images of himself to a girl pupil at a South Yorkshire school and then started a sexual relationship with her has been jailed for three years.

Samuel Bradley, 23, of Marbeck Close, Dinnington was jailed for 36 months at Sheffield Crown Court last week.

He had pleaded guilty to the sexual grooming of a child, sexual activity with a child whilst in a position of trust and possession of indecent images of children at an earlier hearing.

He chatted up one victim on Facebook, then swapped naked images of himself – some sent under the desk in class. The pair met for secret trysts away from the Rotherham school premises and had a ‘consensual’ sexual relationship.

But Bradley also admitted sending indecent pictures of himself to two other teenage girls.

The offences were committed against more than one girl whilst he was working as a teaching assistant at a school in Rotherham during 2011 and 2012.

He was placed on the sex offenders register for life and was also given a sex offender prevention order, which prevents him working with children in the future.

Detective Constable Gareth Gent said: “The police worked closely with the school, the education authority and children and young people’s service to identify the crimes and support the victims.”

“Everyone involved has worked very hard to bring Bradley to justice and we will continue to track down and prosecute anyone who continues to commit crimes against children here in Rotherham.”

Detective Inspector Mark Monteiro, public protection lead at Rotherham said:”This is a clear case of child sexual exploitation and a teaching assistant abusing his position of trust. South Yorkshire Police will vigorously pursue those exploiting any children.”

Anger as evil former Catholic priest spared jail for molesting altar boy at St Simon Stock Church in Walderslade

2737872_7795_1

A former Catholic priest who molested an altar boy at a Medway church more than 20 years ago has today avoided a jail sentence.

Malcolm McLennan admitted molesting the boy, who is now in his late-30s, when he appeared before Medway magistrates last month.

The 69-year-old was handed a three-year community order at Maidstone Crown Court today.

After the sentence, the victim said: “I am devastated. Justice has not been served.”

McLennan admitted indecent assault over the acts he committed while an assistant priest at St Simon Stock Church, in Bleakwood Road, Walderslade, back in 1989.

The court heard how McLennan would rub himself up against the victim or give him a cuddle when the boy was changing into his robes while helping at services.

One day, he put his hands down the youngster’s underpants and started to touch him.

He reported the matter and was visited by a bishop the following week, who dismissed his allegations by saying: “We’ll have no more of your silly talk.”

After reporting the incident to police in the wake of the Jimmy Saville scandal, the victim learned McLennan had previously indecently assaulted three church boys – with the youngest believed to be five – while working in Tunbridge Wells in the mid-1980s.

The court heard how in 2009 he was jailed for 18 months and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years for these offences

The court also heard he had convictions for gross indecency dating back to 1973, 1977 and 1989 involving offences in public toilets with men, but has since turned his life around.

The former alcoholic began to change when he started attending Alcohol Anonymous meetings, the court heard.

Andrew Espley, defending, said McLennan now works as an infirmary assistant looking after ill monks at an Abbey in Gloucestershire, where he has no contact with children.

But his abuse has left a mark on his victim. He is said to have lost his faith and he refuses to let his children play outdoors out of fear.

Speaking exclusively last month, the victim said he wanted the “predatory sex offender jailed”.

McLennan – now of Teal Close, Quedgeley, in Gloucester - was instead sentenced to a 36-month community order, with supervision, and a requirement of attending a sex offender programme.

Judge Jeremy Carey said the sentence was a “constructive alternative” to a prison sentence as McLennan had already served a minimum of nine months in 2009 for “strikingly similar sexual offences” and could therefore only sentence him to a few more months in prison.

He told McLennan: “You have been punished as a sex offender. You have not committed further sexual offences for many years and I accept you have been leading a non-criminal life of a positive kind.”

‘Funbusters’ father and son guilty of downloading indecent child images

12345

A FATHER and son who ran a business as children’s entertainers from Tardebigge have been warned they face jail after being found guilty of downloading child and extreme pornographic images.

A total of 280 images were found on the computers at the home of Nigel Bourne, aged 28, and his 52-year-old father Robert, who ran a company called Funbusters.

Police found scores of pictures on a Sony laptop and HP desktop computer featuring children as young as four and dozens of searches for “Lolita-type” websites dating from June, 2008. Other images featured animals.

Simon Phillips, prosecuting, told Worcester Crown Court police raided the home in Hewell Lane, Tardebigge, on October 6, 2011.

Nigel Bourne denied possessing 27 indecent images of children aged between four and 14, plus 24 images of extreme porn.

Robert, a former builder who launched Fun Busters almost 15 years ago, and was known as Big Bob or Fun Bob, denied possessing 198 indecent images of children aged between six and 14, along with 31 extreme pornographic images.

A jury unanimously found Nigel not guilty of two charges of making or downloading indecent images of children but guilty of three other similar charges and two of making images of extreme porn.

His father was found guilty unanimously of three charges of downloading child abuse images and two of extreme porn.

Judge Richard Rundell ordered them both to sign the sex offenders register immediately. Pre sentence reports were ordered and they are due back in court for sentencing on August 30. They were granted bail but the judge warned them they should both prepare to go to jail.

Adam Western, defending Nigel, who got married last year, said he had put up a defence on behalf of his father in court. Apart from their father and son relationship, Mr Western said, he had not worked for anyone else since the age of ten. It was a remote chance, Mr Western said, that two people with the same “deviant, criminal interest” would live in the same house.

Andrew Davidson, for Robert Bourne, said he had a “mental breakdown” in 2008 which resulted in him dousing himself in petrol and setting himself alight. He went to prison and his house had been a “drop-in centre for cons and ex-cons” following that time. Others could have accessed the computers and downloaded the porn.

Man admits sexual activity with a child who later died following suspected suicide attempt

A MAN has admitted three sex charges involving a girl aged 14 who died after being found hanged.

Georgia Hedges was taken to hospital after an incident at her home in Witham, Essex, but died two days later.

Bramwell Walls, 38, of Folkestone Road,Walthamstow , admitted two charges of sexual activity with the teenager and a third charge of inciting her to engage in sexual activity.

The public gallery in court number two at Chelmsford Crown Court was full as Wells, wearing a white t-shirt, sat before a camera in the video suite in Chelmsford prison during the eight-minute hearing on Monday.

Judge Christopher Ball QC told Walls he wanted the probation service to prepare a report on him before he is sentenced on Friday, September 13.

Walls was remanded in custody. There was no application for bail.

The court heard Walls engage in sexual activity with Georgia between January last year and May this year.

Walls incited the teenager to engage in sexual activity between April and May this year.

Police and medics were called to Georgia’s home in Osbert Road, Witham, on May 14 this year after she had tried to take her own life.

Georgia, a pupil at Maltings Academy in Witham, was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford before being transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

A post-mortem examination revealed a provisional cause of death as compression of the neck.

An inquest into Georgia’s death has been opened and adjourned.

Businessman guilty of sexually abusing young boys

Stephen Read - Bussage

Wealthy businessman Stephen Read, 58, is facing jail after being convicted of sex offences against four boys.

The founder and managing director of multi-million pound Enviro Technology Services, was found guilty today of five charges after a nine day trial at Gloucester crown court.

Two of the guilty verdicts were on charges of indecent/sexual assault and the other three were for causing the boys to view pornography

Judge Jamie Tabor QC bailed Read, of Bussage, near Stroud until August 29.

The judge said he would grant Read bail as long as he lives outside the county pending sentence. This would allow him time to put affairs in order and ensure his business can run ‘in his absence,’ said the judge.

He added that it was also important Read is away from his home area because of ‘bad feeling’ there.

“I am well aware that this case has caused a great deal of bad feeling not only in the family but in the surrounding area and for his own sake I don’t particularly want him to go home because he has enough problems on his plate as it is,” the judge told defence barrister Jane Rowley.

“He knows what the almost inevitable outcome of the jury’s verdict is.”

The charges related to incidents between 1997 and May last year when the boys were visiting his home or going on swimming, shooting and boating trips with him.

Prosecutor Anne Vigars told the jury of seven men and five women at the start of the trial that Read “has over the last 15 years or so taken advantage of young boys under the disguise of being a kind and generous man.”

She said the offences came to light when a woman driving four 12-year-old boys in her car heard two of them talking about Mr Read being a ‘paedo.’

She asked the boys to speak to their parents about what they were saying and in due course their allegations against Read came to light.

Following local rumour in the area the other two victims also came forward.

Read denied two charges of indecently assaulting a boy between July 1997 and June 1999. He was convicted of one by an 11-1 majority but cleared of the other.

He also denied five charges of sexual assault of a second 12 year old boy between January and May 2012 and one of causing the same boy to view video of people engaged in sexual activity.

The jury found him guilty of two of those charges by majorities of 10-1 and 11-1 but not guilty of the other four allegatrions,

The third set of charges alleged four sexual assaults on another boy under-13 between April 2010 and April 2012 and one of causing that child to view similar pornography. The jury convicted him only of the pornography charge by an 11-1 majority.

The final two charges were of causing or inciting a fourth boy to engage in sexual activity and causing him to view pornography. He was convicted by an 11-1 majority of the pornography charge but cleared of incitement.

Read had denied all the charges and maintained he never did or said anything indecent to the boys.

Exeter barman jailed for making 14-year-old girl pregnant

sam

A barman has been jailed for having sex with a 14-year-old schoolgirl who needed an abortion after he made her pregnant.

Samuel Manning, aged 23, met the child through her family at the pub where he worked in Exeter and arranged to meet her secretly at his home when his mother was out.

He was already in a relationship with a girlfriend but had sex with the 14-year-old six to eight times over three months.

The truth only came to light when she developed an infection and was found to be pregnant when examined in hospital, Exeter Crown Court was told.

The girl had an abortion under general anaesthetic shortly afterwards and was so upset by the abuse that she stopped going out and seeing friends and spent every night in tears alone in her bedroom.

Manning, of Bramley Avenue, Exeter, admitted four offences of sexual activity with a child and was jailed for two years and eight months by Judge Erik Salomonsen.

He buried his head in his hands as he was sentenced and security guards had to separate his friends from the victim’s family as they were leaving court.

The judge told Manning:”You knew your victim and were close to her and her mother and you began to text her and became close and in due course proceeded to intercourse.

“This could be described as a sexual grooming process, given that at the time you were 22 and she was 14 and a virgin. You now accept it was wrong and inappropriate.

“You ended it because you were in a relationship and realised how wrong it was but by that time, having not used contraception on the first occasion, and possibly on others, she was pregnant.

“This led to an abortion under general anaesthetic and I have read a statement from her mother about the inevitable effects on her of in terms of anxiety and concern.

“They are perfectly natural and are not to be laid at her door. You were the adult with experience and knew what you were doing.

“The aggravating feature is that she became pregnant because of your recklessness. It was reckless in the extreme to expect this 14-year-old to arrange contraception.”

Mr Nigel Wraith, prosecuting, said Manning knew the girl and her mother through his job at a pub in Exeter and started texting her at a time when she had fallen out with friends at school.

He said the sexual activity took place between November last year and January, when he stopped seeing her.

The girl’s mother heard rumours about the relationship but he denied it until the girl, who had tuned 15, was found to be pregnant in February. She had an abortion in March.

Mr Wraith said:”The girl’s mother was completely shocked to find that her daughter was pregnant and she eventually identified the father as Manning and the police were notified.

“He told police she wanted sex and wanted to lose her virginity to him. He said he stopped having sex with her because he knew she was under age and had a partner and knew he should not be doing it.

“The girl herself did not make a victim impact statement but her mother said she did not go out as much as before and often went to bed early, texting her from her room. She said she knew her daughter was crying in her room.”

Mr Jason Beal, defending, said the offence was out of character for Manning, who works for charity and is trying to improve himself by taking a college course with a view to becoming a personal trainer.

He said:”What happened was an aberration and a mistake.”

Youth worker guilty of sexually assaulting two boys

A Wirral youth worker was found guilty of sexually assaulting two young boys.

Stephen Lundy, who worked as a volunteer at Bebington Youth Club for 30 years, was found guilty of touching a boy after a three-day trial, as well as assaulting another youngster who is now an adult.

Anthony O’Donohue, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court  that Lundy was “well known in the community”, having befriended many local families.

An electrician by trade, he would drop in for cups of tea and chats as well as carrying out odd jobs and electrical work.

The allegations about him came to light last year when a young boy told his parents that Lundy had touched him inappropriately over his trousers while he was playing on his Playstation.

He added that the same sort of thing had happened three times while he was sat on a sofa.

The court also heard evidence from a man in his twenties who said that Lundy assaulted him in a very similar manner more than a decade ago.

Though his mum confronted Lundy about it at the time, no complaint was made to the police.

Lundy, 49, was arrested and denied the allegations but when police searched his home, on New Ferry Road, New Ferry, police found two illegal pornographic images on his phone, one was a video of a child known to Lundy being touched inappropriately and the other involving an animal.

There was no suggestion anything illegal had happened at the youth club where Lundy was said to work two nights a week.

Lundy pleaded guilty to possession of an extreme pornographic image and possession of an indecent image of a child, but he denied charges of indecent assault on a male and three counts of sexual activity with a child under 13, saying his accuser wanted to “blacken his name”.

But jurors took just 20 minutes to find him guilty on all counts.

Judge Robert Trevor-Jones told him: “You are now convicted of the various counts of indecent and sexual assault on these two young boys.

“You did not plead guilty and you therefore forced them to give evidence and be branded liars.

“This is a slur that has been disbelieved by the jury.

“I’m not going to sentence you today.

“I’m going to order a report so the full facts about you will be known both to me and the prison authorities.”

He told Lundy that he will be sentenced on September 6 and jail was the only possible outcome.

Bruised baby case Telford man avoids prison

A man who bruised a three-week-old baby when he grabbed him around his neck has escaped an immediate prison sentence.

Tomas Clueit, 23, was told he would have to live with his momentary loss of control for the rest of his life.

The court was told the offence happened in February. The child was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital where it was found to have fingertip bruising to its head, neck and chest.

Clueit, of Merrington Road, Muxton, Telford, admitted cruelty to a child at an earlier hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court. Yesterday he was given a nine-month jail sentence suspended for two years, an 18-month probation order and was ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work in the community and pay £750 costs.

Mr Tim Harrington, for Clueit, said the child had suffered no long lasting injuries and the incident had happened when his client felt inadequate and frustrated.

Judge Robin Onions told Clueit: “No-one can condone, explain or excuse the abuse of a child who was barely three weeks old. You are very young, of good character and this was a single instance of loss of control.”

Jail for man who admitted sexually touching girl

A MAN has been jailed for three years after he admitted sexually touching a girl.

Lee Rowett, 30, of Mill Lane, Kirton in Lindsey, also admitted 10 offences of making indecent images of children, one of possessing such images and three of breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

Simon Kealey, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Rowett had been given a three-year community order and a 10-year sexual offences prevention order at the same court in April 2011 for making and possessing indecent images of children.

But American investigators working to protect children discovered that he had an e-mail account with a social networking site.

They found that 250 indecent images had been transferred to an account traced to Rowett.

A total of 2,066 images of children were found on a laptop. Most had been deleted.

Sixteen images were also found of a girl who had been sexually assaulted by Rowett, said Mr Kealey.

Craig Lowe, mitigating, said Rowett had shown genuine remorse at an early stage and had been extremely open with the authorities.

Rowett was told to register as a sex offender for life.

The prison sentence included a consecutive eight months for breaching the original community order.

Man jailed for 13 year old schoolgirl rape

A MAN has today been jailed for raping a 13-year-old girl on her way to school.

Paul Fenner, 26, of Hope Street, Astley pleaded guilty at an earlier date to one count of rape.

Today, (Friday) he was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to spend eight years in prison.

Fenner has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and received a lifetime ban prohibiting him from working with children and vulnerable people.

On Tuesday, June 18, at around 8am, a 13-year-old girl was walking near to the Merlewood Drive area of Astley, on her way to meet some friends before school.

As the girl was walking along a path, she was approached from behind by a man who covered her eyes and threatened to kill her if she didn’t do what he said.

The man then dragged the girl into an area of nearby wasteland, where he raped her.

Details of the attack were issued to the media and public a short time later, as officers worked to track down the man responsible.

Numerous calls with information were received from the public and the next morning Fenner was arrested for the attack. He was later identified by several witnesses who had seen him in the area shortly before the rape took place.

Detective Inspector Damian Simpson from GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “This young girl suffered a horrific attack at the hands of Fenner and genuinely feared for her life during her traumatic ordeal.

“People in the nearby area were utterly shocked to hear what had happened to a young girl from their community as she was simply walking to school that morning, and we received a huge response from the public who wanted to do all they could to help us find her attacker.

“I hope Fenner’s young victim can today take some solace from seeing him put behind bars for a long time for what he did to her and that she can now try to move on from what happened that morning.

“There are a number of specialist support services available for victims of rape and sexual abuse, which are offered from the first point of call. This support can help victims through the police investigation and court process, and is available afterwards for as long as the individual feels they need the help of those services.

“This case highlights just how seriously we take allegations of rape and sexual abuse and I hope others who have suffered such abuse are encouraged to come forward and report it to police.”

‘Obnoxious’ Ilfracombe flasher banned from contacting any child

A flasher has been ordered to stay away from children after he left two young sisters too frightened to walk to school on their own.

Mark Barrow’s actions were branded obnoxious and very offensive by a Judge who directed he should receive psychiatric help in the community to prevent further offences.

Barrow, 22, ambushed the girls aged seven and nine on their way home from school and pulled down his trousers to expose himself to them.

He was caught because they spotted him going into a Coop shop near the scene in Marlborough Road, Ilfracombe, and he was identified from its CCTV.

Shocked bystanders who saw the incident rushed to protect the children, Exeter Crown Court was told.

Barrow, who was living at Runnacleave Road, Ilfracombe at the time but is now homeless, admitted indecent exposure and was banned from having any unsupervised contact with children by a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

He was also ordered to receive mental health treatment as part of a two year supervision order and to live where directed by the probation service.

Barrow has already served the equivalent of a five month sentence while waiting for his case to be dealt with.

Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, told him:”What you did was obnoxious and very, very offensive. If you do it again you will go to prison for a long time.

“However, it is clear you need support and help if you are to avoid further offending. I am making a SOPO because there were young children involved and what you did was very wrong.

“You are a single man and there is no need for you to have unsupervised contact with children.”

Mr David Bowen, prosecuting, said the two girls aged seven and nine were walking home at 3.40 pm on May 12 in Marlborough Road, Ilfracombe when Barrow approached them.

He said:”He saw the girls, crossed the street and approached them on the pavement and stopped within an arms length of them before pulling down his trousers and pants and exposing himself.

“The younger girl was too traumatised to be interviewed and the nine-year-old said she was shocked and shaken and scared about going out on her own.”

Mr Jeremy Harris, defending, said Barrow is keen to receive help for his problems and plans to find new accommodation in the Barnstaple area through the probation service.

Three-year community order for man who made indecent images of children

A 61-year-old Warwick man has today (Friday) been given a three-year community order and a three-year supervision order for five counts of making indecent images of children and two counts of possessing extreme pornographic material.

Andre Davis of Reignier Place, Heathcote, has also been ordered to take part in a community sex offenders programme and to remain on the sex offenders register for 7 years. A Sexual Offences Prevention Order was also granted that ensures that Davis has to allow police access to any computer he uses.

Andre Davis had indicated that he would plead guilty to the seven offences at an earlier hearing at Leamington Magistrates Court on July 19 after which he was released on conditional bail not to contact or associate with any child under 16 until his sentencing at Warwick Crown Court today.

Speaking about the sentence, Det Con Sean Tonelli said: “This case was brought to the attention of Warwickshire Police by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre which gather intelligence on those who download or share indecent images of children.

“Anybody who downloads or shares indecent images of children through the internet will always leave some form of a trail and when this is identified enforcement action will always be taken.”

Paedophile jailed for four years

A PAEDOPHILE who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl has been jailed for four years.

William John Jones’ offending against the girl was brought to the attention of the police after she confided in her dad.

Jones, 41, of Minffordd, Llanfair Caereinion, indulged in sexual intercourse with the girl.

“The girl was shocked and she chose not to tell anyone,” said Oliver King, prosecuting.

“But she then told her father what happened and he took her to the police station in Newtown.

“At first Jones told police that the girl had climbed on him. He also claimed that he thought she was 16-years-old, but this could not be true as he would have known that she’d recently celebrated her 15th birthday.”

Jones admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child, which involved touching her intimately over her clothes and having sexual intercourse with her.

Paul Smith, defending, said: “The defendant has demonstrated his remorse and is disgusted with himself.

“Throughout interviews he has acknowledged what happened and that he was wrong and to blame.”

But Judge Philip Hughes slammed the jailed paedophile, saying: “You knew she was 15 and the effect on her is something we cannot tell at this stage.

“From her witness statement she is lacking in confidence and is nervous because of what you did, and you did this while you were drinking and initially tried blaming the young victim for encouraging you.”

Jones was jailed for four years and was placed on the sex offender’s register indefinitely.

He was also made the subject of an order preventing contact with children except under certain conditions.

‘This is not justice’

A VICTIM of Sunderland sex beast Darren Kerr today slammed the sentence handed out to his attacker, saying “I know he will come back for me”.

It comes as Kerr, from Ford Estate, was locked away for five years after subjecting three Sunderland teenagers to a sickening catalogue of assaults.

The 37-year-old abused his position of trust with the boys before indecently assaulting them in a series of attacks which dated back to 1989.

Speaking after the sentencing, one of his victims, now 29, said: “I have been left disgusted, he could be back out on the street in a couple of years.

“I know for a fact he will come back for me, I know him better than I know myself.

“We have had to live with this since 1989 and he could be out in just a few years. This is not justice.”

Kerr was initially charged in July 2002 but absconded after he was released on bail by Sunderland Magistrates.

A nationwide police hunt was launched, lasting more than 12 months and scanning the length and breadth of the country. He was tracked down to Blackpool and arrested before being returned to the North East.

In May this year, Kerr pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to six charges of indecent assault between 1989 and 2000.

On Friday, he was sentenced to four-and-a-half years for the indecent assault charges and six months for breaching his bail.

His victim added: “I don’t feel like any of this is over. I’m going to have to live with what he did to me for the rest of my life.

“To say we are disappointed doesn’t come close to how we all feel. I would have liked to see him banged away for eight to 10 years at least.”

Kerr’s other victims, now 20 and 21 years of age, are also still trying to come to terms with the years of abuse which have shattered their lives.”

VICTIMS OF SEX BEAST

A SEX beast subjected three Sunderland teenagers to a horrific catalogue of assaults during a 10-year reign of terror.

Darren Kerr built up a relationship of trust with the boys before abusing them in a series of attacks since 1989.

It wasn’t until one of the terrified boys finally came forward that detectives discovered the horrific nature of the 37-year-old’s crimes.

Today, all three of his victims spoke out about the years of abuse and fear they suffered at the hands of the pervert.

One victim, now 20 years old, said: “Whenever he did this to me, I was left so scared.

“He is a dirty, sick and horrible individual – just the thought of him makes me want to throw-up.

Kerr was initially charged in July 2002 but absconded after he was released on bail by Sunderland Magistrates.

A nationwide police hunt was launched, lasting more than 12 months and scanning the length and breadth of the country.

Eventually he was tracked down to Blackpool and arrested before being returned to the North East.

In May this year, Kerr, originally from Felstead Square, Ford Estate, pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to six charges of indecent assault between 1989 and 2000.

He is due to be sentenced next Wednesday.

But, for his victims – left shattered by the years of abuse – there is no sentence severe enough.

Another victim, now 21, said: “I hate and despise what he has done to me – I’ve lost my childhood.

“He worked his way into my life by buying me things and then he betrayed it all by what he did

“When something like this happens to you, it makes you grow up quickly – too quickly.

“I missed out on my teenage years, they were taken away from me. Maybe I would have gone on to do some college courses or get a secure job – I think I would have been a very different person if it wasn’t for him.”

Another victim, who was the first to got the police and report the attacks, added: “I just wanted it to be over with.

“I was too scared to leave the house in fear of what might happen, I was terrified of bumping into him.

“I had kept it to myself for all those years, I just needed to tell someone.

“I’m just sorry I didn’t have my day in court to speak out about exactly what he did to me.”

Detectives leading the investigation say extensive inquiries were made across the country and even abroad following Kerr’s disappearance.

Detective Sergeant Steve Tallentire, from Sunderland CID, said: “We are pleased the victims can now put this behind them and get on with their lives.”

Rapist jailed for attacking girl, 7

orr

By Nicky Harley: Hull daily mail

A MAN has been locked-up after being found guilty of raping a seven-year-old girl in a seaside resort.

Nigel Orr, 42, held his hand over the girl’s mouth to stifle her screams and said he would attack her sister if she did not do as he asked.

Orr, of Great Union Street, east Hull, was convicted by a jury at Hull Crown Court of rape following a trial.

In a statement read to the court, the girl said the attack, which happened in Withernsea, had badly affected her.

Sentencing Orr to 14 years in prison, Judge Mark Bury told him he had “blighted” the child’s life by his conduct

He said: “I accept that the offence was a one-off. There are no allegations that you have been sexually abusive towards any other children.

“The offence has a number of aggravating features. There was an element of force used, you pinned her down and put your hand over her mouth to prevent her from shouting out. You raped her. There was a degree of persistence.

“You told her if she didn’t stop crying you wouldn’t stop.

“You caused her significant pain and injury. You threatened her that if she told anyone you would hurt her siblings.

“There has been no evidence of previous or subsequent offending.

“It has had a significant effect on your victim and she says she thinks about the offence every day. She cannot deal with the offence that has happened against her and as a result her life has been blighted. It is hoped one day she will put this behind her.”

Orr was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

Judge Bury told Orr he has shown no remorse.

He said: “You deny your guilt still. The presentence report by the Probation Service shows not a jot of remorse and I have detected nothing in these proceedings.

“The only thing you are worried about is yourself. Having been convicted of this offence, a substantial sentence of imprisonment is justified.

“The range of sentence is between 11 to 17 years because she was a child of seven at the time and there was a degree of force and persistence.

“I take into account the victim impact statement, which indicates the degree and effect that this offence has had on her.”

Orr will be released after seven years and will be allowed out on licence.

However, if he re-offends or breaches his licensing conditions he will be recalled to serve his full sentence.
