Photos help convict paedophile
A nine year old girl was forced by a 27 year old man to have indecent photos of her taken in back garden
And the man, James Bell, of East Kilbride also had unlawful sexual intercourse with her
However Bell’s abuse of the girl came to a end when his wife discovered three photographs under bedroom mattress
She contacted the police who in turn arrested Bell
At Hamilton Sheriff court Bell pled guilty to using, lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards the girl by taking photographs of her naked parts and also to having unlawful sexual intercourse with her
Bell’s defence pointed out that Bell had realised his unnatural urges towards the girl and had gone to the psychiatric unit at the Victoria infirmary for help
However as he had no further contact with the girl at that stage, it was decided there was no need to treat him at the hospital
Defence continued – I do not think he was particularly evil in his intentions. He obviously knew he was doing wrong, but he could not control himself
Fiscal explained that when Bell’s wife found the photographs under the mattress, she confronted him and a argument developed and the police were called
Sheriff Fiddes QC said he was astonished by a psychiatrists report that Bell should be put on probation with a provision that he attend a clinic
The Sheriff pointed out the the maximum sentence for the offences was life imprisonment

Abused girl’s bid to save sisters too late
A STORE supervisor reported cases of sex abuse 16 years after the assaults in a desperate bid to stop the same man indecently touching her sisters.
But she discovered she was too late when younger siblings spoke up for the first time after she contacted the police.
Pervert Peter Wilson, 52, from West Lothian, indecently assaulted three sisters over the course of 15 years.
He was jailed for two years in 1988 for indecency against a girl while she was aged between 12 and 16.
The 25-year-old store supervisor told Edinburgh Sheriff Court during a two-day trial that Wilson abused her when she was aged between eight and 11.
Breaking down, she said: “After the first time he gave me money and told me to go and get some sweets.
“I hate him, I’ve hated him since he did that to me. He shouldn’t be allowed to get away with what he did to us.
“When I was in primary seven I told my mother but she did nothing, I was petrified for years and years.”
She said she went to the police as an adult fearing that Wilson might victimise her younger siblings, but was too late.
Her 18-year-old sister described how Wilson also molested her when she was aged between eight and nine. “He touched me indecently but said it was a secret
“I wanted to tell somebody about it but I never had the courage until a few years ago.
“When my older sister found out, she was in shock that it had happened again.”
Police then questioned her younger sister, now 14, who admitted that she too had been abused when aged between nine and 11.
“I told him I didn’t like it and he told me not to tell anybody.
“But when my mother said my older sister had said something I spoke up too.”
Wilson, of Chapelton Gardens, Polbeth, West Calder, claimed the 25-year-old was angry with him because he disapproved of her boyfriend and had conspired with the younger girls against him to fabricate lies.
However, a jury yesterday found him guilty of three charges of indecency committed between 1984 and 1999.
Sheriff Mhairi Stephen deferred sentence for background reports.
She also ordered Wilson, who receives disability benefit, to be registered as a sex offender.

Paedophile priest Wilkie Denford banned from the church, diocese confirms
A paedophile priest has been banned from ministerial practice for life, the Diocese of Chichester has confirmed.
Keith ‘Wilkie’ Denford, of Broad Reach Mews, Shoreham was last year convicted of three counts of indecent assault against two boys between January 1987 and January 1990 and cleared of one count of the same charge.
He was jailed for 18 months.
Now the Diocese has said he will not practice again.
A statement said: “The Diocese of Chichester has confirmed the most severe sanction possible, under the Clergy Discipline Measure, has been served on Mr Keith (Wilkie) Denford.
“Mr Denford will be banned from ministerial practice for life.
“Following the conclusion of criminal proceedings and a subsequent statutory disciplinary process under the Clergy Discipline Measure 2003, sentences of prohibition for life from exercising any functions of ordained ministry within the Church of England have been imposed upon the Reverend Keith (Wilkie) Denford.
“The sentences are imposed under Section 30 of the Clergy Discipline Measure following the respondents’ convictions and imprisonment for a series of indecent assaults, including offences against minors.”

Imran Khan/Zhaid Mohmmed – Blackburn/Bolton
March 2014
Man abducted and raped girl in Blackburn
A MAN has been found guilty of abducting two schoolgirls and raping one of them.
After more than four hours of deliberations, a jury agreed that Imran Khan, 36, had picked the youngsters up in a car driven by Zhaid Mohmmed, 45, in Blackburn town centre, taking them to a house where they were both ‘sexually exploited’.
Khan was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl.
Mohmmed was convicted of sexually assaulting the rape victim’s 14-year-old friend after they were deliberately separated at the house in Chester Street, Blackburn.
The pair had denied all the allegations.
Robert Golinski, prosecuting at Preston Crown Court, had told the jury: “They were offered drink and drugs then separated by the men, each of them taking one of the girls.
“The prosecution say this was a deliberate policy by the defendants to get each of the girls alone.”
The 14-year-old girl was then assaulted by Mohmmed, of Boardman Street, Bolton, while the other, who was 15, was raped in an upstairs bedroom by Khan, of Tenby Close, Blackburn. It had been put to the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, that she made up the rape allegation to get out of trouble at school, which she had strongly denied
Khan was found guilty of rape and two counts of abducting a child. Mohmmed was also convicted of two charges of sexual activity with a child and two of abducting a child.
Judge Heather Lloyd adjourned sentencing until May 9 to allow for the preparation of reports.

Bar owner admits sexually assaulting teenage girl
The owner of a Magillgan bar has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
John Gaile, whose address was given on court papers as Ballymadigan Terrace, Castlerock, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and sexual assault by penetration.
The offences were committed between June 2011 and August 2012, when the victim was 16-years-old.
The 51-year-old had initially denied the charges but the day after a jury was sworn to try the case he applied to be re-arraigned and entered a guilty plea.
Two further charges of sexual assault and attempted sexual assault were left on the books not to be proceeded with.
The jury had been told that Gaile is the owner of Cooley’s Bar in the Magilligan area.
A second man admitted giving false information to police during their investigation into the sexual assault.
David John Bowerman, of Seacoast Road, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice on February 19, last year.
Sentencing was adjourned for probation pre-sentence reports to be compiled.
Judge Philip Babington thanked the jury and said in sex cases it is ‘always better if the injured party doesn’t have to give evidence’.
Both the defendants were released on continuing bail and will appear in court again on May 6.
Gaile is now subject to the notification requirements of the sex offenders register.

Newquay man had more than 2,000 indecent images of children
A 24-YEAR-OLD Newquay man has admitted having more than 2,000 indecent images and movies of children on his computer.
At Truro Crown Court on Friday, Callum Powell, of Leader Road, pleaded guilty to eight counts of making an indecent image of a child, two of possessing indecent images of children and one of possessing a prohibited image.
He is said to have downloaded the material, which ranges from level one to four on the scale police use to categorise such images, with five being the highest, between June 5, 2012 and June 27, 2013.
Powell was granted unconditional bail and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register.
A pre-sentence report into his circumstances was ordered and he is due to appear the court for sentence on April 17.

Darryl Pearson – Grimsby

Student found with almost 36,000 indecent images of children on his computer
POLICE found almost 36,000 indecent images of children after searching a student’s computers, Grimsby Crown Court heard.
Darryl Pearson, 21, of James Street, Grimsby, admitted six offences of possessing child pornography and another of distributing it.
Jeremy Evans, prosecuting, said a specialist police team received information and searched Pearson’s home and his Lincoln University accommodation on March 20 last year.
Indecent images were discovered on laptops, hard drives and a memory card and these were found to total 35,968, including movies running to 27 hours.
Most featured boys. Simon Hirst, mitigating, said Pearson was doing a degree in programming and developing computer games, but he had jeopardised his course and a possibly “lucrative” career.
He immediately told the police the images were on his computer and that he had allowed others to view them.
Pearson was given a 20-month suspended prison sentence, a two-year supervision order and a sex offender treatment programme.
He was given a ten-year sexual offences prevention order and must register as a sex offender for ten years.

Christopher Beardmore – Meir
March 2014
Royal Navy veteran downloaded child abuse images in his Meir home
PERVERT Christopher Beardmore downloaded thousands of indecent images of children for his sexual gratification.
The 47-year-old used his laptop to access pornographic sites and search for children over a three-year period, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard.
But his offending was brought to an end after police searched his Meir home.
Now the Royal Navy veteran has been sentenced to a three-year community order and placed on the sex offenders’ register.
Prosecutor Paul Farrow said police officers raided Beardmore’s address, in Chatsworth Place, Meir, on September 26, 2012.
Mr Farrow said: “A female answered the door and the defendant indicated it was he they were after.
“He was arrested for making indecent images.
“A computer tower was seized from the loft and two laptops from the bedroom.”
The computers were analysed and found to contain 3,967 indecent images of children at level one; 339 at level two; 903 at level three; 1,082 at level four; and 33 at level five – the most serious on the scale.
In his police interview, Beardmore said he lived with his girlfriend at the address. He said he used both laptops and had used the computer tower at a different address. He confirmed he used the laptops to access pornographic sites.
Beardmore pleaded guilty to five offences of making indecent images of children between October 2009 and September 2012.
Nicola Bell, mitigating, said Beardmore is embarrassed and ashamed. Ms Bell said: “It is a fall from grace for a man who served in the Royal Navy for 22 years. Hopefully he can be rehabilitated.”
Judge David Fletcher sentenced Beardmore to a three-year community order with supervision and a requirement to complete the sex offenders’ group work activity.
He was also made the subject of a five-year sexual offences prevention order.
“That prohibits him from using any device capable of accessing the internet, unless it is capable of retaining the history of internet use and he makes it available for inspection by police.
Beardmore was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years and must pay a £1,200 fine.
Judge Fletcher said: “These were photographs of real human beings, of real, very young, children being abused.
“The only reason they were being abused is because people like you provide a market and want to look at those sort of images.”
But the judge said it was not necessary to deprive Beardmore of his liberty.
Judge Fletcher told the defendant: “You have lost your relationship and society will now see you as a sex offender. That will bring the sort of isolation it inevitably does.”

A 44-year-old man from Bristol has been jailed for 11 years for committing rape and sexual offences against a teenage girl.
Stephen Pennycott, of Mancroft Avenue, Lawrence Weston, admitted one count of rape and five counts of sexual activity with a child and was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court
Investigating officer Det Sgt Amy Hewitt said: “Stephen Pennycott is a manipulative and calculating offender who targeted a vulnerable 14-year-old girl over a 17-month period.
“He groomed the victim by buying her gifts, clothes and DVDs in order to build up her trust and then he betrayed that trust in the most horrific of ways.
“This court case would not have been successful if it had not been for the bravery of the victim in standing up against her abuser. She has shown great strength of character and I have nothing but admiration for her.
“I hope this shows other victims that they do not have to be afraid to report offences to us. Please have the confidence to report crimes as we can give you all the help and support you need.”

Leon Coleman – Accrington
March 2014
East Lancs pervert had ‘vile’ images of young children
A PERVERT who had ‘vile’ child abuse images on his computers had also ‘spied on’ and filmed two women getting undressed, a court was told.
Leon Coleman, 29, had more than 200 photos of very young children being abused, on two computers, including 100 at the more serious levels.
The engineer, who had never been in trouble before, was spared immediate jail at Burnley Crown Court, but was sent on a sex offenders treatment programme by a judge, who said it would be better protection for society.
Coleman, of Lime Street, Accrington, had admitted voyeurism and allegations of possessing an indecent photo of a child. He was given a three-year community order, with three years’ supervision, as well as the programme.
Coleman was also put on a five-year sexual offences prevention order, allowing police to monitor his internet use, and was ordered to sign the sex offen-ders’ register for five years.
Mark Lamberty, prosecuting, said after executing a search warrant at Coleman’s home, police found 220 indecent images of children on two computers.
One hundred of the pictures were at level three, four and five. Level five is the most serious.
Adrian Williams, for Coleman, said he had been extremely candid with the police in interview, and was remorseful.
Coleman’s behaviour was disturbing and unpleasant, and born out of his own sexual gratification and his own sexual problems.
Mr Williams said Coleman accepted he had a problem and was receptive to change.
The solicitor continued: “He has lost his good char- acter. He may well lose his employment.”
Judge Beverley Lunt told Coleman if she sent him to jail, he would serve four months.
He would not be on licence when he came out, and nobody would have done any work with him to look at the problems he had with his perverted interest in indecent im-ages of children being ‘horribly abused’.
The judge continued: “With a community order, for three years the probation service would be working with you on your perversions and prob- lems.
“That, it seems to me, is the more difficult sentence for you and is the better protection for the public as a whole.”
She warned Coleman: “If I see you again, you will go to prison.”

Child sexual abuse victim puts her attacker in jail
Brave Fallon Marlow – who was sexually abused as a teenager – has waived her right to anonymity to urge other victims to speak out.
The 30-year-old is today speaking publicly about her ordeal after 64-year-old James Street was jailed for eight months after admitting four specimen counts of indecent assault.
the mum-of-two – whose abuser was jailed on her 30th birthday – said: “I advise other girls in my situation to get help. Be strong and report it to the police. Don’t let it carry on like I did – what they are doing to you is wrong.”
Fallon was aged 15 and in foster care when builder Street befriended her foster mum.
She says he stole her virginity and for the next five years had sex with her every day.
Fallon said: “I knew it was wrong, but I was too scared to tell my foster mum, because I thought I would be moved again and there’d been enough upheaval in my life. I was very confused and frightened. I needed love and attention, but I knew it was wrong at the same time.
“I craved a father figure, because I never had a dad. He told me I was the apple of his eye and he loved me.”
Fallon, from Dronfield, said Street met her from school and sexually abused her, giving her foster mother money so she could go out and play bingo – leaving Fallon in his clutches.
She said: “He would tell me not to say anything about the abuse because, if I did, he would get locked up.”
Fifteen years on Fallon, who lives with her husband Andrew and their children, still suffers from the psychological effects of the abuse and regularly has panic attacks so severe she is unable to breathe.
She takes medication for her anxiety, is on antidepressants and attends counselling.
Fallon said: “For years I bottled it up and kept it all a secret. Now when I think about what he did to me it makes me feel sick.
“I have nightmares about him and I sometimes think I see him on the street.”
Fallon said she was speaking out after having a family of her own.
“I would hate to think of anything like that happening to my daughter and I realise how wrong it was. That’s why I went to the police.
“They were very supportive and investigated things that happened a long time ago quickly. I would urge anyone in the same position to ask for help.”
Fallon has also slammed the amount of time it took for Street, of Townhead Road, Dore, to be put behind bars.
He first appeared in court last June, when he admitted abusing Fallon. However, due to a series of administrative blunders, he was only sentenced yesterday.
“It has been really stressful,” she said.

Stevens, 19, of Spring Gardens, Bourne End, was found guilty of three counts of rape at a previous hearing on January 29 at Aylesbury Crown Court. He was sentenced on Friday (March 21).
He had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity.
Stevens befriended his first victim, a 14-year-old girl, on an instant messaging service and in 2011 he raped her on three separate occasions.
During 2012 and 2013, he then befriended his second victim, a 15-year-old girl, on an instant messaging service and social media, and then began a sexual relationship with her.
Stevens was charged with the offences on June 12, 2013 and September 9, 2013.
Investigating officer Det Con Quoc Vo, from High Wycombe Force CID, said: “This was an appalling case where Ashley Stevens repeatedly raped his victim and engaged in sexual activity with another.
“The victims are still struggling to come to terms with what Ashley Stevens did to them and the consequences to victims have been profound.
“I hope the length of the sentence offers some measure of comfort to them.
“I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone, particularly young people, the dangers of meeting people online and the importance of making sure you know who it really is you are spending your time with.
“I want to thank the victims again for their bravery in coming forward. If you have been a victim of a sexual offence, please let us know. We will take you seriously, support you all the way and we will do everything to bring the offender to justice.”

Paedophile jailed for seven years for attacks on two children in Redcar
A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of abusing two children.
Peter Edwards targeted the pair on several occasions more than a decade ago.
At the time of the abuse the police investigated complaints against the 46-year-old, of Broadway West, Redcar, but decided to take no further action, Teesside Crown Court heard today (Thursday, March 27).
Hilary Manley, prosecuting, said the abuse had wrecked the lives of the victims.
In their victim impact statements, which were read out in court, both said they were still struggling to come to terms with what happened to them as children.
In mitigation Nigel Soppitt described his client as naive and childlike while lacking a sense of cunning.
Judge Bowers sentenced Edwards to seven years in prison for four counts of indecent assault and two charges of gross indecency.
He said: “I could not possibly suspend the sentence because of the number of offences and the effect they have had.”

A 53-YEAR-OLD Truro man has admitted downloading more than 1,500 indecent images of children to his computer over a three-year period.
At Truro Crown Court on Thursday, Stephen Rogers, 53, of Chellew Road, pleaded guilty to seven counts of making indecent images and two of possessing extreme pornographic images involving animals.
Harris downloaded them between September 15, 2010 and May 16, last year.
The indecent images of children were at levels one to four on the scale police use to categorise such material with five being the highest.
Judge Christopher Harvey Clark, QC, ordered a pre-sentence report into Harris’s background to be prepared by the probation service.
He told Harris to be open and honest with the probation officers about the offences and how he came to commit them.

March 2014
Bewdley student downloaded indecent images of children & extreme porn
A UNIVERSITY student from Bewdley who downloaded indecent pictures of children and extreme pornography has been given a three-year community order and must register as a sex offender for five years.
Daniel Wormald pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court to five charges of making indecent pictures of children, one of of having 336 pornographic images featuring animals and one of having a prohibited image of a child.
Judge Richard Rundell said guidelines set by the Sentencing Council indicated a prison sentence but he felt nothing would be achieved by a short spell in custody. More would be achieved by Wormald taking part in a community sex offender programme.
He ordered that 23-year-old Wormald should be under the supervision of the probation service for three years and undertake the sex offender programme and do 150 hours unpaid work for the community.
He yesterday imposed £500 court costs but said a sexual offences prevention order was not necessary as Wormald was no real danger to the public.
Prosecutor Paul Whitfield said the offences, which dated back to 2010, were revealed when police visited Wormald’s home In Kidderminster Road, Bewdley, and seized his laptop computer. Analysis showed 333 indecent images at level 1, 18 at level 2, 80 at level 3, 41 at level 4 and three at level 5, the most serious.
There were 336 pornographic images with humans having sex with animals. There was also a picture of an under-age child on his mobile phone. Wormald, who was of previous good character, had begun downloading the images in 2010. He gave no explanation at the police station.
Michael Aspinall, for Wormald, submitted references and pointed out that the offences began when the defendant was 19. He had been bullied at school and he seemed to gain solace by his work on the computer. He had since deleted the extreme pornography.
Since the charges were brought, he had completed his masters degree and gained promotion at work. He recognised his behaviour was not acceptable or normal and there was a low risk of him re-offending.

Owen Strong – Tonbridge/Stanley
March 2014
Pervert jailed for rapes, sex assaults and molesting a young girl
A pervert who molested a woman hours after his wedding and had a fetish for taking photos of his victims while they were asleep has been jailed for 17 years.
A judge said Owen Strong took advantage of girls and women within his “orbit” after he had been drinking.
Maidstone Crown Court heard in January how the 42-year-old father committed a string of offences between 2009 and 2012
On the night of his wedding in 2009 at a hotel in Hampshire he asked two sisters if he could use the toilet in their room, said prosecutor Christopher May.
When he emerged from the bathroom he went over to one of the young women and pulled down her knickers. He later claimed it was a joke.
He went on his honeymoon – a camping trip – the next morning and his wife knew nothing of the assault until they returned.
Strong, formerly of Mortley Close, Tonbridge, also assaulted a 17-year-old girl at an Abba theme New Year’s Eve party.
She was awoken by the flash of a camera phone and realised Strong was taking intimate photos of her and touching her after taking down her underwear.
She told how he was breathing heavily and touching her breasts. He fled when he heard is girlfriend approaching
“It is a common feature that the person sexually abused was asleep at the time,” said Mr May.
“There is something of a pattern to his sexual offending against women and children.”
When his phone was seized indecent pictures of the girl were found. There were also indecent photos of a woman while she was asleep.
Another of the offences involved Strong raping a woman and committing other sexual offences while she was asleep. He also took sordid photos
Strong denied three offences of rape, assault by penetration and sexual assault, but was convicted.
He admitted another offence of sexual assault, sexual activity with a child and taking indecent photographs.
Judge Michael Carroll told Strong, of Stanley, West Yorkshire: “The aggravating features here are manifold.
“These were gross sexual offences and the abhorrence of society must be reflected as far as your behaviour is concerned.
Strong’s name will appear on the sex offenders’ register and a sexual offences prevention order was made, both indefinitely. He will be banned from working with children.

Denis Wishart – Plymouth
March 2014
Plymouth man jailed for sexually assaulting two girls
A MAN has been jailed for more than five years for sexually assaulting two girls in their homes on the same night.
Paedophile Denis Wishart, aged 41, even indecently touched one victim as her father dozed next to her, a court heard.
Both girls were suffering from nightmares eight months later, Plymouth Crown Court was told.
Jailing him for five years and four months, Judge Paul Darlow told him: “Both girls need constant reassurance as a result of what happened to them.”
He rejected Wishart’s claim that he could not remember what had happened because of the alcohol he had drunk.
Wishart, of Marsh Close, Marsh Mills, had earlier admitted three counts of sexually assaulting two girls aged under 13 in August 2 and August 3 last year.
David Evans, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Wishart indecently touched one girl on a sofa as her friend played in the same room.
He added the friend herself became the second victim when Wishart molested her at her own home a couple of hours later.
Mr Evans said Wishart was watching a film with the girl and her father, who then dozed off next to his daughter.
Wishart then indecently assaulted that girl on the stairs.
The court heard that both girls told their parents what had happened the next day.
Mr Evans said Wishart was arrested within hours but did not confess.
He added that he only admitted what he had done when the police confronted him with forensic evidence months later.
The court heard that police also found evidence that he had accessed teenage porn on his computer and read stories of sexual violence.
Mr Evans said both children had suffered nightmares and sleepless nights. He added that the parents had also suffered guilt about what had happened.
Will Willden, for Wishart, said: “He maintains he does not remember the incidents and he puts that down to drunkenness.”
But he said that he had acknowledged his offending and the impact on the families.
Wishart will sign the Sex Offender Register for life. He will also be monitored by police indefinitely.
