Man convicted after admitting 11 sexual offences

An Ilkeston man has been convicted of sexual offences against children.

Charges included causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual act, causing or inciting prostitution or pornography involving a child, making indecent images of a child and possessing extreme pornographic images.

The offences came to light in 2012 when Guy contacted a 14-year-old girl via internet chat rooms.

Man jailed for abusing girls

cliff

A 73-year-old man has been jailed for 17 years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two girls in the 1980s.

Clifford Pardon of Buxton Road, North Walsham, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court by Judge Bacon QC after previously being found guilty of 11 counts of indecent assault.

The offences took place in Norfolk throughout the 1980s and involved two female victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, under the age of 14 at the time.

Norfolk Constabulary’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit launched an enquiry after being contacted by the victims in late October 2014. This led to the arrest of Pardon in November 2014.

During questioning by detectives Pardon denied all allegations put to him. It was mentioned in court he has never shown any remorse.

Detective Constable Graeme Poole of the Child Abuse Unit, said: “It was an incredibly brave decision for the victims to come forward and speak to police after such a long period of time.

“The fact Pardon then pleaded not guilty meant the victims had to relive their ordeal in court which took an enormous amount of courage. Both women have had to live with the consequences of Pardon’s actions for some 30 years.

“His actions have had a profound impact on both the victims and we hope such a sentence will give them a sense of closure and assist them in moving on more positively with her lives.

Pardon was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and banned from working with children for life.

Jail for man who repeatedly raped, sexually assaulted and abused young boy

roche

A JUDGE has sentenced a man who repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted a young boy to 20 years in prison, telling him he “revelled in sadomasochistic sex with children” and had caused profound and lasting harm to his victim.

Anthony Malcolm Roche subjected the youngster to years of abuse, including forcing him to walk around naked on a dog lead and chaining him to a bed.

When police raided the 53-year-old’s house in Swansea they found pages of writing where he re-lived what he had done to the boy more a decade ago.

Roche, of Lon Carreg Bica, Birchgrove, had denied seven counts of child rape and 14 counts of indecent assault but had been found guilty following a trial at Swansea Crown Court when he appeared in the dock today for sentencing.

The court heard Roche was living in the Swansea Valley when he abused the young boy, repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting him, humiliating and degrading him and calling him his “slave” and his “pet”.

On occasions Roche would make his victim wear a dog collar and would lead him around on a leash, as well as making him dress in a girl’s school uniform.

He also forced the boy to smoke cannabis.

When Roche was arrested in 2013 police found pages of writing which detailed abusive and sexual scenarios that matched what the victim said had happened years before — Janet Gedrych, for the prosecution, said his was Roche re-living what he considered to be his “glory days”.

Judge Tom Crowther QC said Roche’s behaviour was “shocking and pitiless”.

He told the defendant: “You revel in and lust after sadomasochistic sex with children.

“The harm you did could scarcely be greater — the effects have been devastating.

“Children should be allowed to develop at their own pace, not be subjected to the sordid fantasies of men like you.

“Such is the risk you present, you must have a very lengthy sentence.”

He added: “I am sure you are a dangerous man.”

The judge jailed Roche for a total of 20 years, and said he would be put on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

Devon pensioner found with dolls adapted to look like naked boys during police raid

A pensioner was found with dolls which he had adapted to look like naked boys when police raided his home in search of child abuse images.

Leslie Clements was found with 23 images despite installing three different evidence elimination programmes on his computer.

Officers also found dolls onto which he had stuck penises at his home near Teignmouth.

Clements, aged 71, of Abbotshill Park, Abbotskerswell, admitted four offences of making indecent images of children and was jailed for two months, suspended for 18 months by Recorder Mr Philip Mott, QC, at Exeter Crown Court.

The Recorder also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which bans him from reinstalling evidence elimination software and requires him to make his computers and browsing history available for inspection by the police.

He told him:”There were a comparatively small number of images found, but that may be because of your use of software to erase them. This is by no means the worst case of its kind.”

Mr David Bowen, prosecuting, said the 23 images were found after police executed a warrant because Clements was identified by an international investigation.

He said:”An analysis of the equipment revealed images and the police also found several dolls of babies with penises fixed to their front.

“His computer displayed three software packages designed to erase images, so an attempt was made to disguise or obscure what he was doing.

“Analysis also revealed he has actively searched for images although there was no evidence of him visiting chat rooms or sharing.”

Mr Martin Salloway, defending, said Clements had accessed the images at a time when he was lonely, isolated and vulnerable after the death of his mother.

He had been candid with the police and probation service about his interest in the material and using it for sexual gratification.

Kim Clark jailed for attempted murder of baby son in Ashford

A mother whose baby suffered horrific injuries after she hurled him head-first to the ground has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

But Kim Clark will be detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act and will only be sent to prison if she becomes well enough before the sentence expires.

Maidstone Crown Court heard before carrying out the shocking act at her Ashford home, she told her partner: “I am sorry.” Asked for what, she replied: “For what I am about to do.”

Prosecutor Christopher Tehrani QC said the 34-year-old former secondary schoolteacher raised the boy’s legs up to her shoulders with his head angled down and “threw him to the ground with significant force”.

The child suffered skull fractures and permanent brain damage, leaving the prognosis uncertain for the future.

Following an application by KentOnline, the judge, Mr Justice Spencer, lifted an order which had banned identification of the child.

Clark, previously of Stumble Lane, Kingsnorth, admitted attempted murder shortly before she was due to stand trial last month.

Mr Tehrani said she met the child’s father, accountant David Hamer, through a dating site in October 2013. She became pregnant the following February.

But her personality disorder made her obsessively jealous and suspicious of Mr Hamer, suspecting him of having affairs with friends and work colleagues. She made suicide threats.

Matters came to a head on February 15 last year when Clark made more accusations and Mr Hamer prepared to leave her.

She followed him to the hallway, carrying the 15-week-old baby and after apologising threw him onto the hard floor covered with only a thin carpet.

The child appeared to be lifeless. He had a large swelling on the side of his head.

Clark was screaming that the baby was dying and threatening to kill herself. Mr Hamer followed her to the kitchen where she attempted to stab him, but caused only minor scratches.

She picked the knife up and pressed it against her stomach. Mr Hamer managed to disarm her.

Clark phoned for an ambulance. When the police arrived she tried to blame Mr Hamer for the baby’s injuries.

The boy was taken to the William Harvey Hospital and then transferred to London’s King’s College Hospital, where surgeons saved his life.

“He had sustained terrible injuries,” said the judge. “They were the sort which are encountered if a child falls from an upstairs window.”

The latest information was that the child had developed epileptic seizures and there was weakness in the left arm and leg, indicative of cerebral palsy.

Mr Hamer had spoken of his indescribable shock at what happened.

“He will never understand what motivated you to perpetuate such violence,” said Mr Justice Spencer.

After her arrest, Clark was transferred to a psychiatric ward at the Trevor Gibbens Unit at Maidstone Hospital.

The judge said after hearing psychiatric evidence he was satisfied Clark needed treatment for her disorder.

“You will be detained in hospital for as long as is necessary,” he told her. “If and when it is no longer necessary, and if your sentence of imprisonment has not expired, you will be transferred to prison.

“Once in prison, you will serve the remainder of the sentence.”

After sentencing, Detective Inspector Lee Whitehead from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: “This was a tragic and difficult case which has left a child with life-changing injuries. I would like to thank my team for their professionalism and hard work.”

Merstham man jailed for serious sexual offences against children

Merstham

A MERSTHAM man has been jailed for serious sexual offences against children.

Neil Cameron, 57, of Albury Road, appeared at Guildford Crown Court today and pleaded guilty to four offences which took place between 2006 and 2015.

These included three counts of sexual assault touching a child under 12 years old and one count of causing a child to watch or look at an image of sexual activity.

Cameron was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for 10 years and been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

Commenting after the sentencing, Detective Constable Jason Kelly of East Surrey Safeguarding Investigation Unit, said: “I am pleased that the custodial sentence will put this predatory man behind bars – I hope today’s court result will go some way to providing the victims with the strength to put these incidents behind them and move on with their lives.

“This outcome has been made possible thanks to their bravery and having the courage to come forward and report this man’s appalling behaviour.

“Any victim of a sexual offence is encouraged to come forward and report any similar incidents. Surrey Police has a dedicated team that specialises in investigating serious sexual offences and victims can be assured that their welfare will be our priority.”

Pensioner jailed for raping primary school pupil and abusing two other children 40 years ago

A pensioner whose hidden paedophile past caught up with him after 40 years of secrecy is behind bars.

Twice-married Robert Thomas, 77, was jailed for more than 14 years after admitting raping a primary school pupil and sexually abusing two other children in the 1960s and 1970s.

His victims, now middle aged, wept as a judge at Cardiff Crown Court told him he had ruined their lives.

One had told police, her abuser was bearded and looked like Catweazle – a character in a children’s TV programme of the time.

And unknown to any of them, the man in the neighbourhood they all knew as Bobby Thomas had gone on to commit sex offences against another girl, hundreds of miles away, after their abuse came to an end.

In 1977 he was jailed for three years at Caernarfon Crown Court when he left the Llanedeyrn area of Cardiff for North Wales.

Judge Michael Fitton QC said: “It shows that even what you did to these three girls wasn’t enough for you.

“You might now be in your twilight years, as your defence told the court, but you have benefited for a long time from the secrecy surrounding your offending, while your victims have not benefited at all.

“They have been tortured by the silence and are to be commended for their courage in now coming forward.”

Thomas, was living in Andover Street, Barry when he was arrested last year after a woman went to South Wales Police to report what had happened to her when she was just six years old.

“When she told her mother at the time, she was told, ‘Don’t go to his house again,’” said prosecutor Janet McDonald.

“It seems her mother as afraid of what her father might do it he found out.”

The victim kept the secret to herself for decades, as did, unknown to her, two other women.

One said that when she first heard about the first woman’s allegation from police, all the nightmares of her childhood returned.

“I hate him” she told the court in a statement.

“I had put it all away but just hearing the name Bobby Thomas brought it all back. I felt sick.

“It’s like he’s winning again.”

All three victims, supported by friends and family broke down, with one having to temporarily leave the courtroom as prosecutor Janet McDonald began outlining the “awful” details of the case.

The little girls, she said, had been frightened to tell their parents, afraid they would be taken away from them.

One told police: “I was scared and sick but I had to pretend I was enjoying it, then I could go home.”

The second recalled seeing his shadow kneeling by the side of her sleeping bag as she enjoyed a sleep over with friends.

He raped her when she was under the age of 12.

The judge said the victim impact statements made by the three, which they requested should not be read in open court, had made harrowing reading.

In mitigation it was said Thomas had been a hard working man, supporting his family and had shown remorse by pleading guilty to charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child as well as rape.

He told a probation officer he was ashamed he had devastated so many lives but Judge Fitton told him: “I struggle with the claim you have shown any genuine remorse.

“There may be features about you which stand to your credit but your darker side enjoyed preying on children and you are still seeking to hide from the awfulness of what you did.

“Their psychological harm and emotional distress has gone on through the years and still continues.

“I cannot take their pain away. All I can do is take account of it and mark it in the sentence.”

The women burst into tears when the 14 years and four months was handed down.

‘Horrendous’ paedophile who shared indecent images of babies via Twitter jailed

A man who was caught in possession of thousands of images of babies and children being raped and sexually abused, after sharing indecent images via Twitter, has been sent to jail.

An intelligence report from US organisation the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), led to the arrest of Paul Turner, who was subsequently found to be inpossession of indecent images and movies of children, ranging from new-born to 12 years old.

The 28-year-old was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Friday March 11 to 20 months in prison, after previously pleading guilty to three counts of making indecent photos and two counts of distributing indecent images.

Brian Stork, prosecuting, told the court 3,280 images were found in Turner’s possession, 393 in the most extreme Category A, 535 in Category B and 2,352 in Category C.

The NCMEC report linked police to the defendant’s address in Hillspur Close, Guildford.

“That report stated that on August 26 2014, just after 6pm, the user and IP address associated with the defendant’s address had uploaded four Category C indecent images of children to the internet using Twitter,” Mr Stork said.

“The same report noted that on September 2 2014, just before 6.30pm, the use of the same IP address uploaded a further two Category C indecent images of children via Twitter.

“The police attended the address, spoke first to the parents and then to this defendant, who was arrested.

“He was cautioned and, on arrest, the defendant said this: ‘I do have saved images on my computer’.

“That laptop was seized and it was examined.”

As well as the computer, memory cards and an iPod were found to have indecent images.

Mr Stork told the court young children were in ‘obvious pain and distress’.

Turner was found to have shared 60 indecent photos through multiple private accounts on Twitter, with 59 Category C and one Category B images.

The court heard he had 900 followers on his social media account at one point.

“The defendant was interviewed and, in effect, made full admissions,” Mr Stork said.

“He confirmed during the course of his interview that he had periodically deleted images he had previously downloaded.”

The court heard he had no previous convictions.

“I have to accept at the outset the images are the most disgusting and horrendous you can imagine,” said Julian Hunt, defending Turner.

“A month after being arrested he contacted the Lucy Faithful Foundation.

“It does seem probation feel they can work with him.

“He admitted literally on arrest with the police.”

Mr Hunt said the defendant was remorseful.

Sentencing, recorder Jane Humphreys QC, said: “It is difficult to know what is worse, a child of nearly 12 who would have been quite old to know the depravity taking place, or a young baby injured in such activity.

“It is my view the deleting of this material along with deleting of Twitter accounts was an attempt to conceal your disgraceful behaviour.”

Taking into account his early guilty plea and remorse, Turner was sentenced to 20 months in prison, of which he will serve half behind bars.

He was made subject of a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £100 and will be placed on the Sexual Offenders’ Register for 15 years

Jailed: Babysitter who terrorised two little girls

price

A CRUEL babysitter from Swindon has been jailed for terrorising two little girls with bizarre punishments.

Harvey Price, 55, forced the girls to strip naked and pose in contorted positions while he watched and he kicked one of them so hard it left bruises on her bottom.

He picked on the younger girl, who was aged only five, and subjected her to a series of humiliations which included flushing her hair down the toilet and dangling her out of a window.

Price abused the girls more than 30 years ago when he was living in Torbay but escaped justice until they went to the police two years ago.

Price, of Bellevue Road, denied three counts of child cruelty but was found guilty by a jury at Exeter Crown Court and jailed for 18 months by Judge Graham Cottle.

He was cleared of three counts of sexually abusing the younger girl.

The judge told him:”You got away with this for a long time but now you must be punished for what you did. It is despicable and incomprehensible that you chose to behave as you did.

“I have simply no idea what pleasure you took from subjecting these girls to this sort of cruelty. To them it was humiliating, painful and extremely emotionally distressing.”

During a five-day trial the jury heard how Price used to babysit on different occasions for up to six years in the mid 1980s when they were aged five to 11 and seven to 13, then being taken into care.

Most of his bullying was aimed at the younger girl, who described her treatment in a video recorded police interview.

She sobbed as she told how he flushed her hair down the toilet, locked her in a cupboard, dangled her out of a window, and made her commit humiliating acts.

He also kicked her repeatedly on the buttocks, leaving bruises, and made her stand naked on sheets of old newspaper.

Both girls told how he made them strip naked forced one to rub her bottom into the other’s face.

Man who carried out sex attack on five-year-old girl jailed for six years

manley

A married man who committed a sex attack on a five-year-girl in a toilet has been jailed for six years.

Stephen Manley, who denied the offence but was found guilty by a jury after a trial, will also be on licence for 12 months after his release from prison.

Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard his young victim had been affected psychologically and doesn’t now shut toilet doors.

Manley, 34, of Well Meadow, Hyde, was convicted of a single count of sex assault and was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period of time.

The attack took place in Dukinfield , Tameside .

Manley, who has no previous convictions, had been painting at a house when he carried out the attack.

Huw Edwards, prosecuting, said the girl was playing in the garden with another girl and went to the toilet.

Manley went into the toilet to ask if she needed help, Mr Edwards said.

Judge Jonathan Foster QC said he ‘took advantage of her presence’.

He added: “There was no direct corroboration of her evidence but she made a complaint of sorts to her friend that something had happened and complained to her mother when she got home.”

The court heard the girl gave ‘accurate descriptions’ of Manley’s tattoos and paint on his body. She gave evidence at the trial.

Paul McDonald, defending Manley, said: “The defendant does not accept the circumstances of the offence. He is a man of good character.

“He has been a happily married man for some years and he has retained the support of his family and friends. They do not recognise his behaviour, but he must accept the verdict of the jury. He knows and accepts that the court has a duty to perform.”

Judge Foster QC added: “She described distinctive features of the man who had done this. You had tattoos and had been painting.

“At the end of the day the jury convicted you and that is what I have to follow. She was a very young child of five years of age and it has affected her psychologically.”

Manley was also made the subject of a list of stringent conditions over future contact with children as part of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Flintshire family man ordered to register as sex offender after sexually touching girl

A FAMILY man convicted of touching a teenage girl’s bottom over her clothing in a dark wood at night has been told by magistrates he really could not be proud of what he had done.

Leon Dean, 33, denied sexually assaulting a 16-year-old in the Mostyn area last November but was convicted.

He was made the subject of a three-year community order at Flintshire Magistrates Court yesterday and placed on supervision so he could follow a sex offender programme run by the probation service.

He was made the subject of a five-year sexual harm prevention order and ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for five years.

Dean, of Ffordd Pennant, Mostyn, was also made the subject of a five-year restraining order under which he is not to contact the victim by any means.

Magistrates told him he had a partner, a child and stepchildren, he had responsibilities and the order was intended to help him not to re-offend.

He was warned he could easily have gone to prison, especially as he was under a suspended jail sentence at the time.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson showed magistrates a text message he had sent the girl saying “are we going to the meadows?”.

Dean went to the woods to urinate and was convicted of touching her bottom over her clothing.

The incident had affected the girl’s education, she feared seeing him again and did not want him to make any future contact.

Dean had previous convictions for 31 offences. In May last year for an offence of common assault he received a 90-day prison sentence, suspended for two years.

The offence put him in breach of that order, she said.

The location of the offence in a wooded area late at night and the fact there was a 17-year age gap were all aggravating features, Mrs Jackson said.

Gary Harvey, defending, said Dean appreciated he could be sent into custody. But he ran his own business and employed two others who relied upon him.

He supported his a partner, a child and three stepchildren.

Mr Harvey said it would be far better for Dean, those who relied upon him and the general public for him to be dealt with in the community rather than being sent into custody.

Paedophile jailed for string of sex attacks on two young girls

Capture

A man has been jailed for a string of sexual assaults against two young girls in Crawley.

Eden Eustice was sentenced to nine years in prison at Hove Crown Court (Monday, March 21).

The 33-year-old a computer engineer was initially charged in September with with three counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13, one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act and engaging in a sexual act in front of a child.

Eustice, from Terry Road in Broadfield, pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody until 2 October.

Before sentencing he was charged with four more counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13 – two against the first victim and two against a second young girl – which he initially denied.

A trial was due to be held on April 11, but on Friday (March 18) Eustice changed his plea and he was jailed.

Man had 100’s of hardcore pictures of children as young as 3

corner

A pervert from Rugby came to the attention of the police after they arrested another person and found evidence of their online chat about exchanging indecent images of young children.

Michael Corner, of Bracken Drive, was jailed for 20 months by a judge at Warwick Crown Court after pleading guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children and one of possessing extreme pornography.

Visibly shaking as he sat in the dock during the hearing, the 54 year-old was also ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.

Prosecutor Marcus Harry said Corner’s online chats with another man between May and July 2012 showed ‘an unhealthy interest’ in sexual activity with children, and discussion about exchanging images led to Corner being arrested in January last year.

His computer was seized, and on it officers found some of the online chat and more than 200 indecent images – including hardcore pictures – of children, both boys and girls aged from about three upwards.

When first interviewed, Corner made no comment.

But in a later interview after the images had been found, he described himself as ‘a total paed’.

Mr Harry said Corner said he was gay and preferred males in their mid to late teens, and told the police the only way he could get them to do what he wanted on camera was to ‘give them what they wanted’ by showing them the indecent images of children.

Jailing Corner, Judge Sylvia de Bertodano told him: “The images on your computer were found in the context of pages and pages of chat between you and other men about attraction to young children, and in fact to very young children including babies.

“You say now this was put on, and that you did not really feel that. Whether you did or not, what makes this so serious is that for whatever purpose, you showed the images to other people.

“These are real images of real children. They are made for a market. Children are abused so that market can be satisfied – and that market is made up of people like you.”

Social care worker convicted of children’s home sex abuse

logins

A former social care worker has been found guilty of sexually abusing children at a care home where he worked in the 1980s.

Andris Logins, 57, of Stiles Road in Arnold, is the first carer to be convicted as part of a police inquiry into historical abuse at children’s homes in Nottinghamshire.

He was aged 22 to 27 when he abused the children – two girls and two boys – at Beechwood Community Home.

A Nottingham Crown Court jury found him guilty of 17 charges.

He is due to be sentenced on Wednesday.

beech

Police became involved when a woman went to police and told them she had been raped by Logins when she was 15.

Det Insp Mandy Johnson said the children had been too scared to complain when they lived at the home, because of its brutal regime.

“Punishments were quite brutal, people being kicked and punched, and split lips and bloodied noses, which made it very difficult for the children to be able to go to staff to disclose what was happening to them,” she said.

The charges in full:

  • Two counts of rape on a girl aged 14 between January and October 1984

  • Two counts of rape of a girl under 16 between January and October 1984

  • Four indecent assaults of a boy aged under 16 between October 1980 and May 1981

  • Three indecent assaults on a girl under 16 between January and October 1984

  • Three indecent assaults of a girl aged 14 between January and October 1984

  • One act of child cruelty between January and September 1984

Prosecutor Mary Prior QC said Logins would develop a caring rapport with his victims before abusing them.

In his evidence, Logins accepted there could have been abuse at the home, but was adamant it was not carried out by him.

He claimed his four victims “had got the wrong man” and suggested the descriptions given could have fitted other men who worked at the home.

One of the male victims was 14 when Logins dragged him into his office, punched him until he “cowed on the floor”, forced him to undress and then stared at his penis.

Logins was convicted of child cruelty in relation to this.

His victimsaid: “All I remember is crying, thinking to myself why is he doing it to me.

“Every day is now a challenge to get up. I’m off work at the moment with stress.

“I drink every day, cry most days. It was wrong, evil.”

One of the girls abused by Logins said she still has panic attacks and anxiety attacks because of what happened to her.

“You live with it day in, day out. I feel like I’m doing a life sentence here,”

“He wasn’t a carer. He was just nothing more than an abuser.”

Man who travelled from Liverpool to rape girl, 12, in hotel room ‘faces long jail term’

Prescot

A man travelled from Liverpool to a hotel in Nuneaton to have sex with a 12-year-old girl after chatting with her on social media.

Mark Greenhall exchanged over 400 pages of messages with the youngster before going 120 miles to meet and sexually assault her, Warwick Crown Court was told.

The 26-year-old admitted three counts of raping a child under the age of 13 in February, but claimed he always thought she was 16, prosecutor Siobhan Collins said.

She added: “The allegation is that this defendant befriended through social media a 12-year-old girl and met her and engaged in sexual activity with her.”

Greenhall, of Ash Grove, Prescot , was warned he faces a long prison sentence by Judge Alan Parker who told him he would study a soon-to-be released report on how dangerous he was.

He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register, and released on bail last Friday with conditions not to contact the girl or have any unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18.

After he was arrested, Warwick Crown Court was told, hundreds of pages of messages between the pair were found on his phone, and Greenhall’s computer was also examined by police.

Greenhall’s case will come back to court in April, before another date is set for his jailing.

Prosecutors have not finished studying all the messages between him and the girl, which could still lead to new evidence being put before the court.

Ms Collins said: “There are at least 400 pages of messages between the defendant and this complainant alone.”

A further hearing, before his sentencing, for Greenhall will take place in April to consider new charges.

Guilty plea over indecent pics of children found on tablet

A man caught with indecent pictures of children at first told police they were for research purposes and he had intended handing them in.

Steven Murphy was apprehended after detectives were alerted by a unit at Lancashire Police headquarters that he had been uploading the photographs from an internet site.

Murphy, a 55-year-old former labourer, of Clayton Crescent, South Shore, pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent pictures of children, some at the highest level of depravity, and one offence of possessing indecent pictures of children between December 2014 and January last year.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said detectives went with a warrant to search Murphy’s home following a tip-off on January 9 last year. They seized two phones and a tablet computer.

The prosecutor said: “When interviewed Murphy fully admitted having indecent pictures of children on his tablet. At that stage he said they were for research purposes and he was going to hand them to the police.”

Probation officer Brian Weatherington, said when interviewed, Murphy said he had not got any sexual gratification from the images.

Murphy was bailed to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court on April 13 by Blackpool magistrates.

He must not have unsupervised contact with children under 16, except for inadvertent or fleeting, and must make the internet history of any device he has available to police on request, as conditions of his bail.
