Man jailed for possessing more than 12,000 indecent images of children

A man has been sentenced to three years imprisonment after pleading guilty to possession of more than 12,000 indecent images of children.

Colin Pope, 56, of Doddington Road, Wimblington, was sentenced yesterday (March 8) at Cambridge Crown Court.

The court heard how officers executing a warrant at his home, on May 13 last year, found 12,300 indecent images of children on digital devices.

The evidence obtained during the investigation also revealed Pope had been committing acts of voyeurism with a hidden camera he had placed in a victim’s bathroom as well as secretly recording women and teenage girls in public without their knowledge.

Pope made a full admission during his police interview to the charges, which included, two counts of possession of indecent images of children, two counts of making indecent images of children, one count of voyeurism and one count of outraging public decency.

Pensioner jailed for life for raping toddler he was babysitting

barry

A pensioner from Westminster has been jailed for life for raping a three-year-old boy his family trusted to babysit.

Barry John Britton, 66, of Westminster, befriended a family in the Westminster area in January this year and managed to gain their trust to the extent he was allowed to babysit their young son.

The toddler’s grandmother became concerned after he mentioned something to her by chance and police were then called on April 21.

Specialist officers acted immediately and arrested Britton. They then interviewed the boy and his family and seized evidence from Britton’s home.

Britton refused to co-operate with police but the evidence against him was sufficient for him to be charged. He then told police he wanted to change his plea to guilty while on remand.

The predator admitted to the oral rape of the boy on multiple occasions and to causing the boy to engage in penetrative sexual activity on more than one occasion.

He was given a life sentence with a minimum term of five years at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday (July 17), was ordered to sign the Sex Offender Register for life and was made a subject of a Sexual Offence Prevention Order.

Detective Sergeant Tom Haines, of the Met’s specialist sex offences and child abuse unit, said: “Barry John Britton is a predatory offender who befriended this family in order to abuse their child.

“Officers acted quickly and secured the evidence required to charge him with these serious offences.

“The family can now be assured that their son and other children are safe from this dangerous man and that he has been brought to justice.”

Man from Ashgill admits downloading indecent images of children

An Ashgill man last week admitted downloading indecent images of children.

John McWiggan admitted a charge of taking, or permitting to be taken, or making, indecent photographs of children or pseudo photographs of children.

The offence had occurred at 64-year-old McWiggan’s Douglas Drive home between November 23, 2013, and March 26, 2015.

Fiscal depute Callum Forsyth told Hamilton Sheriff Court last Friday that officers attended at McWiggan’s home on March 26 last year at 7.30am to execute a search warrant.

He was not at home as he was returning from work.

At about 7.50am the accused arrived home and a warrant was read out to him. A systematic search was then carried out at the property.

Three computers were recovered and McWiggan accepted he was the owner of the machines.

Officers arrived at 9am for a triage assessment of computers. It suggested there were indecent images on the computer.

McWiggan was taken to a police office and was interviewed later that day. He made full admissions to downloading and viewing indecent images of children. He told police the images fascinated him.

McWiggan was later arrested and when cautioned and charged, made no reply.

Mr Forsyth told the court the computers were subsequently examined. Within an Acer computer there were a total of 53 still images – none of which were accessible. Mr Forsyth explained that the inaccessible images had possibly been downloaded and then deleted from the hard drive.

There were also 65 moving images on the computer, of which 37 were accessible.

In a Dell computer there were a total of 25 still images – one of which was accessible and the rest had been deleted.

There were also 51 moving images, 27 of which were accessible.

In an Asus computer there were 30 still images, which were not accessible, and 152 moving images, 72 of which were accessible.

Mr Forsyth pointed out that the children were female and aged between four and 10. He said the images had likely come from peer-to-peer file-sharing software.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday, Sheriff Shiona Waldron deferred sentence on McWiggan until February 22 for a criminal justice social work report to include a risk assessment.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register meantime.

Toddler scarred for life after couple failed to get medical treatment for agonising burns

pair

A mother and boyfriend who failed to get medical treatment when a toddler suffered horrific burns to his back have been jailed.

The little boy, who was two-and-a-half at the time, has been scarred for life after being left in agony.

Nicola Armstrong and Lee Varley decided not to take him to a doctor for the injuries for four days

A court heard the pair lied to the youngster’s father and extended family, saying he had fallen in a hot bath and that they had seen medics about the burns but had been sent home to dress them with cream and clingfilm.

But when the child, who also had bruising to his face, and body, was eventually taken to a doctor, he was in so much pain that he had to be held down by his dad and three nurses while he was treated.

Newcastle Crown Court was told he then spent a week in hospital, had to be put on painkillers, will need two years of treatment and will now be left permanently scarred.

It is not known how the toddler, from the Amble area of Northumberland, sustained the burns but a judge said Armstrong, 32, and Varley, 27, had “persistently lied” about the cause and “deliberately concealed” them.

Now, the pair, originally from Amble but currently of Northumberland, have been locked-up for 11 months after admitting one count each of wilfully neglecting a child.

Judge Robert Adams said he couldn’t sentence the duo on the basis that they caused the injury, as it was impossible to determine the cause.

However, he said the couple had lied when they claimed the toddler had fallen into a scolding hot bath.

He said: “She [Armstrong] said he had fallen in the bath and scolded his back.

“This is a provable lie. There’s expert evidence that rejects that as a cause of the injury to his back.

“It’s not known what did cause the injury. Despite extensive inquiries and investigations and examinations of all things that might have caused the burn, it’s proved impossible to say what in fact did.”

Judge Adams added: “You [Armstrong and Varley] persisted with the lies.

“It seems to me you must know what caused the injuries to him and you must you must know that the account Nicola Armstrong gave was untrue.”

The court heard The toddler suffered the burn on April 9 last year but didn’t receive medical attention until April 13.

Michael Hodson, prosecuting, said that, as well as the burns, the toddler also suffered from a laceration to his right eye lid, bruises to his forehead, cheeks and other areas.

Judge Adamds said: “These are very serious injuries and they obviously required treatment.

“Both defendants lied and deceived family members, and the agencies that might have been involved, for their own ends and this caused prolonged suffering.”

In a statement, the victim’s father said he and his side of the family had been left “devastated” by Armstrong’s and Varley’s actions.

He said: “[The toddler] had to have the wound to his back changed and dressed. The sight and sound of seeing my son going through this pain every day was almost unbearable.”

He added: “I was left speechless, how could the mother of my two-year-old son not seek medical attention for our son when more than half of his back was so badly burned?”

Also in a statement, the boy’s paternal grandmother said: “He’s changed from a sunny, delightful little chap into a scared child, who will not leave his daddy’s side.”

Peter Walsh, representing Armstrong, who is still with Varley and pregnant with his child, said she didn’t seek medical help as she was “terrified” social services would become involved.

Armstrong cried in the dock as she was sent to prison

Husband & wife GUILTY of sexually assaulting 13-month-old baby

Michael Lara Chase

A husband and wife accused of sexually assaulting a 13-month-old baby they were babysitting have been found guilty.

The case has been described by detectives as “every parent’s worst nightmare”.

The court heard Security guard Michael Chase, 52, and his wife Lara, 46, a pharmacist from Orton Goldhay in cambridgeshire took pictures as they sexually abused the baby in her bedroom.

Michael Chase, 52, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and possession of indecent and extreme images last November

But a jury dismissed her claims and found her guilty of two counts of sexual assault and the distribution of indecent images which Michael had already admitted taking

During a trial at Peterborough Crown Court, she claimed they are now separated and that she would like to see her husband “hung, drawn and quartered.”

Photos used during the trial included the victim being sexually assaulted by Michael Chase, with the jury deciding that Lara had been assisting him in his actions

Lara repeatedly insisted in court that she had been unaware of the incriminating photographs of her husband and the victim.

Sally Hobson, prosecuting, asked if she had known that her husband was taking photos of the victim with the flash on while all three of them were in the same room.

But Lara, 46, stated that the first she knew of any indecent images was during her first police interview.

Detective Constable Lloyd Metselaar from Cambridgeshire Police said: “I am pleased that the family of the victim in this case have received justice for what can only be described as every parent’s worst nightmare’.”

Both Michael and Lara Chase will be sentenced tomorrow.

Trading standards officer caught with over 45,000 indecent pictures of children

A paedophile who was snared with tens of thousands of indecent pictures of children tried to blame “acquaintances” from a gamblers anonymous group.

Trading standards officer Andrew Baisley, 37, denied downloading child sexual abuse images despite police finding a vile haul at his Cambuslang home.

He claimed he mistakenly ordered some online, believing it was gay porn and that “acquaintances” left pieces of hardware with the filth at his house.

But a search found a laptop and hardware with over 45,000 images.

After a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court the jury rejected his version and convicted him of downloading and possessing indecent images of children between 2003 and 2014.

Yesterday (Thurs) sheriff Joseph Platt sentenced Baisley to two years in prison and put him on the Sex Offenders’ register for 10 years.

Baisley ordered the illegal material from a company in Canada, using his credit which sparked a probe.

Police were granted a search warrant and went to Baisley’s house in Cambuslang where they took two hard drives, a USB pen drive and a laptop.

In total 45,725 images of children ranging from the lowest to the highest level were identified on the items.

Of them, 5,666 were still accessible.

In evidence Baisley claimed he bought what he thought was gay porn online but shredded it when he realised it was children.

He alleged he was then very unlucky when members of his gamblers anonymous group came back to his house after a meeting and left items of hardware behind.

It was said on his behalf that Baisley maintains his innocence and has lost his job as a result of the conviction.

Paedophile ex-teacher avoids prison

PS

A former teacher has been given a suspended sentence after admitting child sexual abuse and possessing indecent images of youngsters.

Paul Spector, (50) of Fleet Hargate, Holbeach, who taught in Oundle, pleaded guilty to:

  • One count of sexual assault of a child under 13

  • One of common assault of a child under 13

  • Nine counts of possession of and making of incident images of children of categories A, B and C.

Indecent photographs of children are categorised into A, B or C, with category A covering the most serious images involving children.

He was also charged with one count of perverting the course of justice.

He was given a 10-month sentence suspended for two years and a two-year supervision order.

He has been placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.

Spector was formerly a supply teacher in Lincolnshire but also taught at a school in the Oundle area. Police have liaised with these schools throughout the investigation, which was led by Detective Constable Spencer Bailey. He said: “I hope today’s court result helps bring some form of closure to the victims involved.

“Paul Spector was in a position of trust which he blatantly manipulated. Those who abuse children will be fully investigated and brought to justice regardless of their profession“

Cumbria police sting snares Carlisle man for grooming ‘girl’, 13

A PERVERT sent an indecent image of himself to a 13-year-old girl, saying their online relationship would be their “naughty little secret.”

But unbeknown to 33-year-old Paul Ellis, the person at the other end of the computer was an undercover police officer, whose evidence helped put him in the dock of Carlisle’s magistrates court.

Ellis, of Myddleton Street, Carlisle, entered a guilty plea to attempting to cause a child to look at an image of sexual activity.

Pam Ward, prosecuting, told the court how the investigation began after police got information that the defendant was trying to have an online relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

He contacted the person he thought was the girl involved via a dating website, the court was told.

Mrs Ward said: “The nature of the conversation quickly became sexual in nature and when told she was only 13, he said: ‘Age is just a number,’ and ‘You don’t look 13 – more 16.

“He referred to her as sexy and told her not to tell anyone else about their conversations: ‘Just keep it as our naughty little secret.’ He said that nobody else needed to know anything.”

Ellis’s conversation with the ‘girl’ moved on to what would happen if they were in bed together, and involved clearly sexual details, the court heard.

He then sent the girl pictures of himself on a bed – one clearly showing him in a state of sexual arousal.

He added the message: “Just don’t tell your mum.”

The date of the offence admitted by Ellis, who spoke in court only to confirm his name and enter his plea, was between November 27 last year and January 14 this year.

Ellis was arrested on February 16. Sara Budniak, for the defendant, who works in a shop in Carlisle, said there was a lot of relevant health factors which formed a background to the offence.

District Judge Gerald Chalk told the defendant that his sentencing powers for the admitted offence – which has a sentence starting point of two years custody – were not sufficient.

He sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for sentencing on April 8.

The judge granted Ellis bail on condition that he does not have any unsupervised contact with any person aged under 16.

In the meantime, the Probation Service will prepare a background report for the Crown Court judge who will pass sentence.

Bo’ness man caught with child abuse images in flat

A pervert found in possession of child abuse images and an image of a human having sex with an animal escaped a jail sentence.

Sergio Braz (37) was found to have a “limited number” of indecent images of children at his home, Flat 4, 207 Corbiehall, Bo’ness and a particularly graphic image of an extreme sex act involving an animal.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, Braz previously pled guilty to being in possession of the child porn images between November 7, 2012 and November 18, 2014 and the graphic animal sex image between April 3, 2014 and November 18, 2014.

Sheriff Craig Caldwell said: “You pled guilty to this offence and although there were only two images they were at the top end of the scale of indecency.”

Braz was initially placed on a supervised community payback order for a period of two years and told to attend the Making Changes programme for sex offenders.

A relatively new initiative for adult male sexual offenders, Making Changes focuses on those considered to present a significant risk of committing similar offences in the future and uses the latest research and practices to reduce re-offending.

Sheriff Caldwell also put conditions in place so Braz would have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16 and also have his computer devices monitored by police.

He was also told to complete 150 hours of unpaid work within four months and placed on the sex offenders register for two years

Convicted rapist tried to sexually abuse young boy in same way he attacked last victim

shane

A convicted sex offender tried to sexually abuse a five-year-old boy after previously avoiding being locked up for raping a child.

Shane Tansley, 21, was handed a two-year community order after raping an 11-year-old boy in 2009, when he was aged just 14.

Liverpool Crown Court heard he was sentenced for this offence in May 2012 and later moved to the Newton-le-Willows area.

Tansley, of no fixed abode, targeted the young boy when alone with him last year in the town near St Helens .

David McLachlan, prosecuting, said Tansley exposed himself and then told the boy to perform a sex act, but he refused.

The victim later recounted to his dad what had happened and his father contacted police, who arrested Tansley.

The boy told specially trained officers the defendant was “a bit naughty” and “does stuff what he shouldn’t”.

Mr McLachan said: “He said he felt sad when this happened and told Shane to stop doing it.”

Tansley denied any wrongdoing and was found guilty after a trial of inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.

The defendant, with short brown hair and wearing a blue shirt in the dock, was said to be immature with learning problems.

Nicola Daley, defending, said it was not a planned incident and occurred when the two happened to be alone together.

The court heard Tansley’s parents first took him to see a psychiatrist when he was 12.

He was found to be vulnerable and suffering from behavioural problems and has self-harmed while on remand in prison.

Ms Daley said: “Although he is 21, perhaps the kindest way of describing him is he is immature and lacking in confidence in his own well-being generally.

“He doesn’t have the confidence really, sadly at this stage yet, to actually go and do very much in his life.

“Sadly for him when he got a job in prison, because of bullying and him retreating into himself, he couldn’t keep that job.

“There have been incidents since his conviction – he had items of clothing taken by others and had large pans of food thrown over him. He is finding it very difficult.”

Recorder David Turner, QC, said Tansley may need to be transferred to a protected wing before jailing him for seven years.

He said: “The public are very concerned about anything of this sort and you were rightly convicted on the evidence.

“The evidence is it was a one-off incident, but unfortunately you have a previous conviction, which was highly relevant.”

The judge told him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life and handed him an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Grandfather jailed for trying to arrange sado-masochistic sex with schoolgirl

pepper

A GRANDFATHER was found with a sickening horde of restraints and alcohol in his car as he waited to meet a ‘13-year-old girl’ for sex.

Brian Pepper, 65, of Homer Close, Gosport, admitted attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard Pepper was snared following a covert online operation by police officers working in the Internet Child Abuse Team and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, who set up a fake online profile of a schoolgirl following complaints from parents about him contacting their daughters.

Pepper believed he had been talking to a 13-year-old girl over three weeks between September and October last year.

He repeatedly asked the girl to meet up with him until they eventually arranged to meet at Burger King, in Havant, on October 14.

He had booked a hotel in Arundel, 20 miles away.

Instead he was met by police officers who found the sickening stash of sado-masochistic restraints – including ropes, cords and belts – vodka and wine in a holdall in the footwell of the car.

He has been sentenced to four years for incitement and 12 months, to run concurrently for attempting to meet a child for sexual grooming.

Pepper is also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the sex Offenders Register for life.

E-mail shame of internet pervert

aaron

TWO perverts exchanged e-mails in which one of them wrote “I wish we could get our hands on a baby or a girl and have some real fun”, a court heard.

Computer technician Aaron Barlow, 26, (pictured) sent the message to primary school teacher Maurice Turner as he attempted to arrange a meeting between the pair.

Details of the e-mails emerged at Bolton Crown Court yesterday when Barlow, from Bury, pleaded guilty to three charges of making an indecent photograph.

He was arrested after police traced the e-mails from a computer belonging to Turner, 54, who was jailed for three-and-a-half years at Manchester Crown Court earlier this year for taking indecent photographs of children in his primary school classes.

Bolton Crown Court heard that Barlow was one of the internet users Turner corresponded with.

Alison Heyworth, prosecuting, said Barlow sent e-mails to Turner which mentioned a particular children’s toy shop as a meeting place and added that they should “try to think of a way to get us a young one”.

The e-mail added: “We will have to think up a plan to get one. I’m sure we will just have to be very careful and not do it on our own doorstep.”

The court was told Barlow had also requested pictures of children being abused.

It also heard that Barlow, a computer technician with a cable company, is engaged and had not told his fiancée about the offences.

He wept in court as the prosecution evidence was read out.

Richard Orme, defending, said Turner and Barlow had met in an internet chat room.

He said Barlow maintains he was involved in “role play” and “bravado”, adding: “He had no intention of meeting Turner and he never did. He admits it was disgusting.”

Judge Elliot Knopf sentenced Barlow to a three year community rehabilitation order and said he would have to attend a sex offenders’ programme. He was also ordered to give notification under the Sex Offenders Act, and has been disqualified from working with children for life.

A not guilty verdict was recorded on a charge of conspiracy to distribute indecent images

Paedophile jailed after being caught online sting

A paedophile has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after he was caught attempting to meet a 14 year old schoolgirl for sex in Luton town centre after he had groomed her online.

Katie and Neil Ivall aka ‘Chris Fear’ snared vile Christopher Aylward from Epsom after the fiend began messaging them thinking he was talking to a 14-year-old girl

The couple had created a fake Facebook account to catch paedophiles and Aylward was soon passing on messages saying how he wanted to meet up for sex.

Aylward was sentenced at Luton Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempting to meet a female child under 16 following online grooming

He was told he must also register as a sex offender

This is the moment paedophile Aylward was caught trying to meet a ‘schoolgirl’ he arranged to meet – and was confronted by the couple who were in fact pretending to be her.

Paedophile ex-RAF engineer who groomed girl at dance classes

A serial child sex offender and ex-RAF serviceman who preyed on schoolgirls at dance classes has been jailed for the THIRD time

Tony Dawson, 44, lied to get his 15-year-old victim’s phone number by pretending to have lost his phone at a kids’ dancing class

After she let him use her phone he secretly copied the number, then groomed her by text, plied her with booze and molested her repeatedly at his parents home.

The offences only came to the attention of police after another of Dawson’s victims encouraged the complainant to break her silence.

Dawson, who served as an RAF engineer in the 1990s, has convictions for sex offences against two other young girls.

In 2006 he was convicted of a sexual offence against a six-year-old girl and for offences against a 14-year-old girl.

The hearing was held at Manchester Crown Court Crown

He was prevented from having contact with underage girls as a result, but breached the order last year by offering to take a 13-year-old girl to McDonalds and was jailed for nine months.

Now Dawson, who is from the Davyhulme area of Trafford, is now once again back behind bars after admitting four offences of sexual activity with a child, and one charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Sending him down for 44 months, Judge Patrick Field QC told him: “These offences were all the consequence of the deliberate and premeditated grooming of a young girl.

“You knew her to be underage and it’s clear to me that you set out to ensnare her and to inveigle her into sexual activity with you on these five occasions over a period of five-and-a-half months.

Paedophile pensioner repeatedly sexually abused three girls over an 11-year-period

James Duncan

A paedophile pensioner from Lossiemouth who repeatedly sexually abused three girls over an 11-year-period has been jailed for 34 months.

Brazen James Duncan, 75, repeatedly abused his first victim at the kitchen table just out of view of other people – thanks to a long tablecloth which hid what he was doing.

He targeted the girls at his home in Lossiemouth’s Community Way and other addresses across Scotland between 1995 and 2006, when the girls were aged between six and 13.

Duncan had faced trial over six charges at Paisley Sheriff Court this year but pleaded guilty to all charges at a pre-trial hearing last month.

Prosecutor Scot Dignan told the court that Duncan also abused the girls, at properties in the town of Johnstone and village of Kilbarchan, in Renfrewshire.

The procurator fiscal depute said Duncan targeted the first girl at his home in Lossiemouth in 1995 or 1996, when she was aged seven.

He said Duncan touched her inappropriately.

He added: “He did not say anything to her, didn’t look at her, and was looking around the room as if to make sure people didn’t see.

“There was a long tablecloth and his hands were underneath it at the time.

“It lasted for a couple of minutes and then he moved away.

“She didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t say anything at the time.

“It was a couple of years before she was back and exactly the same thing happened from the first day she arrived.

“People couldn’t see what was happening because the tablecloth was so long.

“It made her uncomfortable and frightened.”

Duncan’s abuse of the youngster continued over several years.

Dignan said the second girl told police she could not remember the exact date the abuse started as it began “as far back as she can remember.”

The girl, who is now 25, was abused at two properties in Kilbarchan and Duncan’s Lossiemouth home.

He would make her sit on his lap with her back to the living room door and touch her inappropriately – then give her sweeties or money.

And he began abusing the youngest girl when she was just six.

She was so young when the abuse started that she thought it was normal.

He would regularly abuse her, putting a blanket over her legs and touching her private parts – then giving her money.

His abuse only came to light in June 2014 after one of his victims had a child of her own.

He then went to Lossiemouth police station and confessed what he’d done to the girls, who can’t be named for legal reasons.

He then wrote a letter to a family member saying: “I was bad. I done something I shouldn’t have.

“I’m sorry for what I done and will accept any punishment I get.”

Duncan was arrested and charged over the abuse and pleaded guilty to six charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices last month.

Sentence was deferred so he could be assessed by social workers and, when he returned to the dock this week, Sheriff Fife jailed him for 34 months for the “disgusting” and “despicable” offences.

Pervert who secretly filmed women & children in bathroom appeals sentence

kev1

A pervert who secretly filmed women and children in the bathroom of a Dundee home is appealing the length of his jail term.

Kevin Enticknap, 42, was sent to prison for four years in December after he was found to have rigged up a complex hidden camera system in the property and captured footage of private acts.

Enticknap stored the videos on his phone so he could watch them later.

He is set to appeal the length of his sentence on March 29 because he believes it is “excessive”.

His solicitor, Larry Flynn, said: “He is appealing the custodial part of the sentence.

“The sheriff originally said that the custodial part of the sentence would have been six years if it had gone to trial, but because he pleaded guilty she gave him four years.

“The appeal centres on the claim that four years is excessive.”

Enticknap’s case will call for the first time at the High Court of Appeal in Edinburgh next Tuesday, where it will be decided if he is suitable to appear via videolink from custody for the hearing on March 29.

A shower gel bottle in which Enticknap hid his camera.

A shower gel bottle in which Enticknap hid his camera

During court appearances last year, it was revealed that Enticknap had also drilled a hole in a wall on one occasion so he could peer into a bathroom.

His victims said they had felt “completely shocked, sick and totally violated”.

His city home was raided by police in February last year where it was found he had downloaded indecent images of children.

A laptop and three mobile phones were seized and they had 249 indecent images and 75 indecent videos on them.

Investigations found that Enticknap sexually assaulted a child sometime between 2010 and 2013 in Dundee.

Laurie Matthew, founder of Dundee charity Eighteen And Under — which supports people who have experienced sexual, physical or emotional abuse — today branded the appeal “absolutely disgraceful”.

She added: “The sentences given out for these crimes often don’t reflect how much impact and emotional trauma they have on the victims. They are often scarred for life.

“For this man to appeal is disgusting. If he is successful, what sort of message does that send out, that it’s OK to do these sort of things?

“We support people who have been victims of these crimes and they often become reclusive and afraid to leave the house.

“While he is locked away, at least people are safe from him.

“I’m all for justice and the right to appeal, but we need to be seen to be making a stand against these awful crimes, and send a strong message that these crimes will be dealt with properly.”

Man forced 12-year-old girl to do housework naked

A PERVERT who sexually tortured a young schoolgirl – forcing her to do housework naked – after meeting her mother online is facing a lengthy jail sentence.

Kenneth Larking carried out a series of horrific attacks on the girl, including whipping her and forcing her to do housework naked.

The man – who initially targeted the girl while her family attended church – also slapped and fondled her, forcing the child to wear lingerie.

The terrified schoolgirl – who was just 12 when the abuse started – broke down and confessed to her mother what had taken place in the home in Lasswade, Midlothian.

Disabled Larking, 40, appeared from custody in a wheelchair at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, where he admitted the abuse.

Fiscal depute Kirsty Anderson told the court the girl was in Larking’s care at the time and that he had met her mother through an internet dating site in 2008.

Ms Anderson added the attacks started on a Sunday morning in 2012 while the girl’s family were worshipping at a church service.

The fiscal said: “The girl planned on joining her family at church but the accused told her she could not go.

“She was left alone with Mr Larkin and he told her to get completely naked, to go into the kitchen and wash the dishes naked. She did it out of fear.

“She stood at the sink crying while the accused put leather restraints on her wrists. He stood behind her and was naked and watched her washing the dishes.”

Ms Anderson said Larking took the terrified girl to another room, where he ordered her to lie across his legs as he sat on a sofa and slapped her bare bottom around 20 times.

The fiscal said the torture session lasted around two hours before Larking told the girl to get dressed and took her shopping.

The girl, who suffered bulimia as a result of the attacks, told her mother around August 2012.

Sheriff John Beckett remanded Larking in custody and placed him on the sex offenders register. Sentence was deferred to later this month.

Larking pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the girl by compelling her to remove her clothes, perform household tasks while naked, and place restraints on her wrists at a house in Lasswade, Midlothian in 2012

Pervert breaks SOPO – Jailed

A CRANFIELD man who breached the terms of a court order not to attend activities where young children would be present without first notifying the police, has been given a 26 week prison sentence.

Adam Carnell had been convicted of two offences of sexual assault on a child under 13 back in 2005.

He had received a sentence of two years in a young offenders institution.

In addition he had also been made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order by the judge at Harrow crown court.

One of the conditions of the order was that he could not attend pre planned activities where young children would be present without first notifying his supervising offender manager.

But Luton crown court heard today how on three occasions in September, October and November of last year he had attended organised outdoor “shoot em up” games involving the company, Air Soft.

Today Angus Robertson prosecuting told Judge Philip Bartle that Carnell had failed to notify the authorities and as a result had breached the SOPO.

The court heard that when police became aware of what Carnell had done and went to his home, it was was discovered he had images of child sex abuse on his mobile phone.

Today ay he appeared for sentence via a video link from Norwich Prison where he has been held on remand since in arrest in December.

He admitted a breach of the order as well as making 11 indecent photos which featured young boys in a state of undress.

Carnell was given a 26 week jail sentence and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

Judge warns teacher to expect jail for sex offences with teenage girl

A Medway teacher was told he faced a long spell behind bars after he admitted sex offences with a teenage girl.

Clive Gibson, who taught in Gillingham, admitted three charges of sexual assault and one of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Gibson, 52, of Bredhurst Road, Wigmore, denied a second charge of causing a child to engage in sexual activity in relation to him allegedly asking the girl to strip naked over Skype.

Maidstone Crown Court heard his pleas were acceptable and that the latter offence was expected to be left on file once he was sentenced.

Judge Philip Statman told the father-of-four custody was inevitable.

“I have to assess the level of dangerousness that you pose to children.

“But I want to make it absolutely clear to you that in a case such as this there is no alternative. The only appropriate sentence is one of immediate and substantial custody.”

Gibson, who was supported in court by two of his children, was released on bail with conditions including not to have any contact with children under 18 and not to leave or attempt to leave the UK.

Sentencing will take place on April 11.
