Pervert caged for schoolgirl sexual assault

shaun

A man who lured an “extremely vulnerable” schoolgirl down a lane and sexually assaulted her has been locked up.

Shaun Redmond, 22, spotted the 15-year-old playing outside with her younger brother in Penwortham and began chatting to her.

Preston Crown Court heard Redmond asked the girl if she was 16, then told her brother to go home while he took the girl to see his “den.”

Redmond, who had been thrown out of a pub for being drunk earlier that day, then led the schoolgirl to a secluded wooded area, where he sexually assaulted her.

When the youngster became distressed, Redmond left her on the lane, telling her to make her own way home.

Two women who were passing by spotted the teenager, sobbing and lost and trying to cross a road alone, and brought her home.

The court heard the girl appeared frightened and was talking to herself, saying: “He has hurt me.”

Redmond, of Colman Court, Broadgate, Preston, admitted sexually assaulting the girl in April this year.

Guy Mathieson, defending, said Redmond was “upset and ashamed” by his actions and wished he could turn back the clock.

Mr Mathieson said: “He accepts his blame for what was a disgraceful incident. This was not a case of seeking out a vulnerable victim or targeting her.”

Judge Christopher Cornwall told Redmond – who has 24 previous convictions but none for sex offences – that it was obvious his victim was an extremely vulnerable girl who had been greatly harmed by her ordeal. He said: “She, by nature trusting, agreed to go with you.You made the approach. You guided her to the area of secluded woodland.

“You then left her with instructions to make her own way home. The experience will have had very serious long-term consequences for her.

“What is particularly distressing is that this extremely trusting person has now discovered the cost of that quality she had. There is already some evidence she is now significantly less trusting, even of those she knows well.”

Judge Cornwall sentenced Redmond to seven years in prison, half of which will be spent on licence.

The judge made a sexual offences prevention order, banning him from having unsupervised contact with under 16s.

Key witness in child sex case is jailed for sexual offences against an under-age girl

A KEY prosecution witness at the trial of a paedophile now serving 18 years in jail is now also behind bars for sexual offences against an under-age girl.

York Crown Court heard that Calvin Daniel Dixon, 21, gave a statement to police about the activities of child rapist Wayne O’Donnell, 55, in June 2012.

Click this for conviction for Wayne O’Donnell – Selby

Recorder Tim Roberts QC described how within months, Dixon started grooming a 13-year-old for sex and had consensual sex with her at his home and sexually assaulted her in bushes in a public park.

Dixon’s barrister Nigel Jamieson said he had then given evidence against O’Donnell at Teesside Crown Court during which O’Donnell accused him of committing some of the crimes of which the older man was accused and later convicted.

In a victim impact statement, the girl told Recorder Tim Roberts QC at York Crown Court: “He took away my innocence in the most disgusting way before I really understood about sex.”

She also said Dixon had taken “part of her childhood” and the consequences of his crimes would affect her more as she grows older.

“He is a dangerous man,” she said.

The judge told Dixon of his crimes: “You knew all too well the devastating consequences on a young girl of this kind of predatory sexual behaviour by an older, more experienced man.

“It should have been a natural reaction to resist her crush upon you and to deal with her in a mature and kindly way.”

He said Dixon had been a key witness for the prosecution against O’Donnell, and reduced his sentence slightly as a result.

Dixon, now 21, of Pasture View, Sherburn-in-Elmet, was jailed for three years and put on the sex offenders register and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, both for life. He admitted two charges of sexual assault against the girl, who was not one of O’Donnell’s victims.

O’Donnell, 55, of Pinfold Avenue, Sherburn-in-Elmet, was convicted of four rapes and four sexual assaults against two girls aged under 11, seven charges of taking indecent images of children and one of possessing indecent images of children and was jailed for 18 years last summer.

Mr Jamieson said Dixon may have become so affected by the child sex world which he had inadvertently become part of through events leading up to his witness statement and that may have led to him committing the offences against the 13-year-old girl.

‘Suicidal’ man had indecent pictures of children on his computer

When a 49-year-old man went into hospital after trying to commit suicide, police searched his home and found indecent material on his computer.

Some were protected by passwords but Sean Richardson handed over one and had agreed to disclose others, said Paul Whitfield, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court.

Richardson, of Lansdowne Close, Malvern, pleaded guilty to making indecent photographs and to possessing nine examples of extreme pornography. There were a total of 172 of children in categories A, B and C and some were movies.

Richardson, employed by a Malvern technical firm, admitted he had built up the collection between 2004 and 2014. In interview, he admitted that he knew what he was doing was wrong but he was stimulated by pictures of children as young as eight. He had lost his job.

Jason Patel, mitigating, said Richardson had been treated in hospital when he had taken an overdose. He was prepared to take part in a community sex offender group programme.

Judge Michael Cullum said pornography was not a victimless offence. It was a vile trade and without consumers there would be no call for children to be exploited.

He ordered Richardson to enrol on the sex offender programme and to register as a sex offender for five years. He made a sexual harm prevention order with a proviso that he should not access the internet for ten years. He was ordered to .pay £350 costs.

Man jailed after
he got 14-year-old girl pregnant

A man who got a 14-year-old girl pregnant after they had been drinking and smoking cannabis at his Warwick flat has been jailed for four-and-
a-half years.

Despite the damning DNA evidence against him, Nicholas Cowen had denied a charge of sexual activity with a child.

But on the day of his trial at Warwick Crown Court, Nicholas Cowen, aged 30, previously of Greville Road, Warwick, changed his plea to guilty.

Prosecutor Sharon Bahia said: “The defendant is now 30. He had intercourse with the girl when she was 14. He was well aware of her age.”

Cowen had been living with his wife, but they separated in October 2013 and he went to stay with someone who lived in Portobello Way, Warwick.

The girl later told the police that in late November or December she went to what she described as Cowen’s flat where they were ‘having a laugh and smoking weed.’

That led to them having intercourse, after which they both fell asleep and she did not go home until the next
morning. She said Cowen told her not to tell anyone what had happened or he would be sent to prison.

But Miss Bahia said the girl was overheard some weeks later as she confided in a friend that she was pregnant and that Cowen was the father.

That got back to her mother who made her take a pregnancy test which came back positive, so she was taken to the police station where a complaint was made.

The girl subsequently had an abortion, and DNA analysis supported the fact that Cowen was the father. But when he was arrested Cowen denied having intercourse with the girl, and he maintained that stance even after being presented with the scientific evidence, said Miss Bahia.

She added that Cowen did have previous convictions, but none in the last ten years and none for similar offences.

Matthew Barnes, defending, said: “Mr Cowen regrettably delayed until today to accept what on this evidence a jury would have found
inevitably that he was responsible for this pregnancy.

“But Mr Cowen did not groom this victim. He did not set out to corrupt her, and this single act of consensual sexual intercourse did not corrupt her in any way.

Mr Barnes said Cowen had lost his mother when he was a child and was then badly affected by the death of his father. He had managed to get himself emotionally straight and had found stability with his partner, with whom he was happy, but something then happened which caused the relationship to end.

That was a matter of weeks before the offence, which took place at the time when he was at a particularly low ebb.

Jailing Cowen and ordering him to register as a sex offender for life, Recorder Adrian Redgrave QC told him: “It is very late for you to have come to accept your responsibility for this offence. Nevertheless, I shall give you some credit for your plea of guilty.

“But you know that this offence is the more serious because of her age, which you knew, and because of the fact that she became pregnant and had to have an abortion.”

Sex abuser who terrified three young children into silence 40 years ago jailed for seven years

price

Justice and jail finally caught up with a sex abuser 40 years after he terrified three young children into silence about his crimes.

The two girls and a boy, who were as young as five, waited until they were married and one was a grandmother before they reported Graham Price, now 58, to the police.

Prosecutor Christine Egerton told Teesside Crown Court that Graham from Stockton had put a cord around the boy’s neck and threatened to kill him if he told his parents.

The victims gave evidence against him at his Teesside Crown Court trial when he was convicted of nine sex charges after he admitted just two more.

Miss Egerton said that many of the charges were specimens of what Price did to the children over many months.

Price told one girl not to tell anyone otherwise she would get into trouble.

The boy told his wife in later years about the abuse, and the third victim only disclosed it to her husband.

The three submitted victim impact statements about how their lives were ruined by Price, who had no previous convictions.

The judge who jailed Price for seven years on Friday said that nobody who saw the man tell his story in court would be able to forget it.

Rod Hunt, defending, said that Price was now a totally different person to the one who abused the children all those years ago. The trauma led him to suffer a heart attack after his arrest.

Mr Hunt added: “His daughter describes him as a loving father, and her family were checked out by social services with no cause for concern.

“Every cell in his body is now different from the person who committed those offences.

“He was taken to hospital after having a heart attack, and he is now subject to medication which will have to be monitored by those who have charge of him in custody.”

Judge Briggs told Price: “These matters all have their serious aspects.

“You put a cord around the boy’s neck and threatened to kill him if he said anything to anyone about it.

“No one will forget the effect it had on him at your trial.

“There must obviously be a significant sentence.”

Price, of Ridley Drive, Stockton, was jailed for seven years, ordered to register as a sex offender for life, and given a Sexual Offence’s Prevention Order banning him indefinitely from unsupervised contact with children under 16.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent assault and he was convicted of nine offences of indecent assault and indecent assault on a male.

Child rapist jailed after sexually attacking 14-year-old girl in Moss Side GRINNED in police custody

grin

A child rapist grinned in police custody after he sexually attacked a 14-year-old girl.

Arman Nejad dragged his victim from the street and into a house in Moss Side, where he raped her.

The crime dates back more than five years, to October 2009, but GMP failed to initially investigate and bring Nejad, now 23, to justice.

Supt Simon Retford, from GMP’s Professional Standards Branch, said: “There were unacceptable delays in bringing the case to court after the initial complaint was made.

“The victim received a service that I believe fell below the level which we strive to offer to victims of rape and other sexual abuse.”

Nejad, of Caythorpe Street, Moss Side, was found guilty of rape after a trial at Manchester Crown Court and on Friday, April 17, he was jailed for five years.

In October 2009, the victim was walking along Caythorpe Street, Moss Side, with her friends.

Nejad called her over to his house on false pretences, separating her from her mates. He then dragged her into a house and raped her.

The matter was reported to police in February 2010, and the girl was video interviewed by officers from the south Manchester division.

In June 2013, officers from GMP’s ‘Protect’ team – a multi-agency initiative set up to tackle child sexual exploitation – visited the girl on an unrelated matter and became aware of an apparent lack of progress following her initial complaint.

The matter was then fully investigated by officers from the Protect team and Nejad was arrested, charged and subsequently convicted.

As soon as GMP’s Professional Standards Branch became aware of the apparent delay in this case, it was referred to the IPCC who returned it back to the force to investigate locally and this investigation is ongoing and a formal complaint has been made by the girl.

Det Insp Debbie Oakes, from GMP’s Phoenix Protect Team, said: “Greater Manchester Police’s Protect Team was first made aware of Arman Nejad’s appalling crimes in 2013.

“As a result, a full and thorough investigation was completed that resulted in this matter being brought to court and which aided in bringing Arman Nejad to justice.

“While the Force absolutely accepts the failures in this case, we should also stress that the work of Protect and the Phoenix partnership over the last few years that has made huge strides towards protecting vulnerable people who are at risk of child sexual exploitation.

“Working with our partner agencies, we can make use of legislation at our disposal to disrupt premises where we suspect CSE may be taking place, shut those premises down and also arrest and investigate suspects so we can put them before the courts, as we have done with Arman Nejad.

“With the launch of the ‘It’s not Okay’ campaign we are increasing public awareness of how to protect children at risk by increasing people’s understanding of child sexual exploitation and how to spot the warning signs of CSE.

“Together, we will continue to tackle CSE and continue to pursue people like Arman Nejad and expose them for the criminals they really are.”

Supt Retford added: “An investigation is underway to establish the reasons and circumstances around our initial response and apparent lack of action in progressing this case.”

Runcorn man’s sexual abuse had ‘profound and lasting effect’ on Surrey victim

A man has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for six counts of sexual abuse of a girl in Hersham in Surrey more than 20 years ago.

Christopher Watts, 43, of Rushfield Crescent in Brookvale, Runcorn, was found guilty on Wednesday (15 April) of four counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child.

Guildford Crown Court heard that on many occasions in the 1990s, when Watts was living in Hersham, he sexually abused the girl.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court: “What Chris did to me made me feel disgusting and dirty.”

Soon after the abuse began she started to self harm and scrub herself with a brush in an attempt to deal with the pain and make herself clean.

She did not tell anyone at the time after threats from Watts.

Giving evidence, she said: “There was one time he said if I spoke that he would harm my family but he said ‘I was only messing’ but it stuck with me.”

She told her stepmother about the abuse when she was 13 and was introduced to alcohol and drugs soon afterwards, which Judge Noel Lucas said led to a ‘downward spiral’.

Addressing Watts, Judge Lucas said: “I saw first-hand the deep anguish of [the victim]. She described the effect your abuse had on her at the time and her subsequent life. She blamed herself for the abuse.

“Your actions had a profound and lasting effect on that young child’s life and it was only through counselling that she has been able to confront you and give evidence in this trial.”

Watts insisted it ‘never happened’ and ‘I never touched her in the slightest’.

He said: “I wouldn’t have done anything like that. I love kids like anybody else does but not in a sexual manner.”

However, the jury found him guilty.

When he was 15, Watts was convicted after pleading guilty of indecent assault by simulating sexual intercourse with a two and a half year old girl.

Judge Lucas said that if one of the offences had happened more recently, it would have been charged as rape.

Watts’ sentence comprises six years’ imprisonment for one indecent assault charge, two years for one charge of indecency with a child, and two sentences of 12 months each, all to run consecutively to create 10 years, of which Watts will serve half in prison and half on licence.

He also received another 12-month sentence to run concurrently.

Port Talbot man pleads guilty to possessing indecent images of children

A 56-year-old man had pleaded guilty to possessing dozens of indecent images of children.

Swansea Crown Court heard that Howard Hancock had 49 pictures of youngsters on his computer, including two Category A photographs — the most extreme kind.

The pictures relate to children approximately aged between eight and 15.

The images were found on a computer seized from Hancock’s house in Manor Street, Port Talbot, following a police raid.

Sentencing was adjourned to May 15 for the preparation of reports, and Hancock was granted bail on condition that he does not access the internet.

Teacher jailed for sex assaults on girls

A TEACHER who indecently assaulted four girls from his school during a three-year reign of terror has been jailed for 12 months.

Physics teacher Robert Kenney, 44, kissed and fondled Miss A in his car and groped her breasts, Glasgow Sheriff Court heard.

The married dad-of-three also sent the 15-year-old a Valentine’s card reading “I think I love you”.

Kenney started to abuse Miss B, 15, in late 2000 and told her: “I could run away with you and molest you.”

Miss C, 16, broke down in court as she told how Kenney would touch her up during lessons in 2002.

And Miss D, 15, said Kenney indecently touched her and made lewd comments in class.

Kenney, of Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, was caught when Miss B’s parents read her diary and alerted cops. He denied the allegations, but in March a jury found him guilty of five counts of lewd and libidinous conduct.

Mhairi Richards QC, defending, said Kenney – also a Sunday school teacher – was viewed by many as “a father figure”. And a cop, church elders and a child support worker sent written testimonies in support of Kenney to the court.

But Sheriff Deirdre MacNeill QC told Kenney: “You abused your position of trust. Imprisonment is the only disposal for such offences.” Kenney was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

Teacher guilty of assaulting girls

A teacher has been found guilty of indecently assaulting four girls at the school near Glasgow where he worked.

Physics teacher Robert Kenney tormented the teenagers over a three year period from 1999.

The 44-year-old, from Bishopbriggs, had denied the charges. He now faces a lengthy jail sentence.

His victims wept with joy and hugged their parents as the jury returned their guilty verdicts.

A trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how the teacher attacked one 15-year-old, known as Miss A, and then sent a Valentine’s Card to her saying he loved her.

His attacks on Miss B only came to light when her parents found her diary and read accounts of what had happened.

Miss C, aged 16, broke down in court as she told how Kenney would touch her during lessons.

Miss D, 15 at the time, said Kenney indecently touched her and made a string of lewd comments in class.

Kenney was eventually quizzed by police and was suspended.

He denied the accusations claiming “they just did not happen” and roped in other teachers to back him up.

But the jury found him guilty of five counts of lewd and libidinous conduct.

The school also came under attack during the trial from both victims and their parents, who claimed it had tried to fob off the allegations.

Kenney was remanded in custody pending reports and will return to court at a later date to be sentenced.

He was put on the sex offenders register for the next five years.

‘Horrified’ father found convicted paedophile performing indecent act as children played nearby

norman

A convicted paedophile was discovered performing a sex act on himself by a horrified father-of-two, a court heard.

Kevin John Norman, 62, was found guilty of outraging public decency at Prestatyn magistrates’ court today.

Norman, of Bath Street, Rhyl, was in the viewing platform at the events arena in Rhyl on the evening of Friday, November 14, 2014.

He was performing a sex act on himself while two children – aged three and four – played nearby.

Their mother, who must remain anonymous, became suspicious of Norman while she watched her partner play football at the arena.

She said: “I could see a man on the viewing platform walking backward and forward.

“I kept an eye on him and my kids. He just looked odd.

“I told my partner about it and he went up to see what the man was doing.”

The children’s father, who must also remain anonymous, went to investigate the man and saw him performing a sex act on himself.

He said: “I went up the stairs and looked around the pillar. I could see what he was doing. I was horrified.”

During the trial, Norman frequently interrupted the first two witnesses with shouts of “lies” and “it didn’t happen”.

He insulted the children’s father and proceedings were suspended while magistrates considered an additional contempt of court charge.

Norman was made to apologise and the father finished his evidence.

When challenged by the children’s father, Norman said he was not urinating but made excuses relating to cleaning and monitoring graffiti.

The father said: “I was disgusted. I performed a citizen’s arrest and forced him back to the wall and told my partner to call the police.”

Julie Jones, prosecuting, said: “Although there may be discrepancies in two of the witnesses’ reports, it does not invalidate what happened.

“You heard how frank and honest they were and it proves they did not discuss the case.”

Addressing Norman, magistrate Jane Edwards said: “You declined to give evidence in your own defence and the three witnesses were all credible. We find you guilty of offending the public decency.”

After his conviction, the court heard Norman was convicted in April 2000 of indecent assault on girls aged under 16, and had been sentenced to four years in prison.

Norman will be sentenced on May 13 pending a pre-sentence report.

Man found with 15,000 indecent images of children after arrest at Heckington Show

9

A paedophile with more than 15,000 indecent images of children was outed after being arrested for taking pictures of women’s legs and bottoms at the Heckington Show.

Peter Richard Fox, 62, from Spalding, was arrested at the show in July last year for outraging public decency. As a result of his arrest, police then searched his computers and other storage devices.

Officers discovered dozens of discs with indecent images of children on them.

He was charged with one count of sexual assault, one count of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, four counts of making indecent images of children and one count of total possession of 15,644 indecent images of children.

Fox pleaded guilty straight away although stated he didn’t do it for sexual gratification.

Jailing Fox for seven years, the Judge said he had no doubt that it was for sexual gratification.

Detective Inspector Simon Lovett said, “The work undertaken in this case by PC Kirsty Longmuir was painstaking, meticulous and dedicated.

“It was detection work at its best. No stone was left unturned in the quest to apprehend this man and bring him to court today.

“I am very proud of the work of this officer and the team.”

Sex offender jailed for abusing Warwickshire child three decades ago

Brian-McIlwraith

A PERVERT who sexually abused a child in Warwickshire 30 years ago has been jailed for eight years.

Brian McIlwraith, aged 60, of Nuffield Close, Bicester, had denied 16 offences of indecent assault and a further offence of attempted buggery when he went on trial at Coventry Crown Court last week.

But he was found guilty and jailed, as well as being given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and told to register as a sex offender for life.

Det Con Elaine Sloane from Warwickshire Police’s child protection unit said: “McIlwraith systematically abused this child over a number of years and I would like to commend them for their courage and bravery in coming forward to report the offences to the police and for placing their trust in the judicial system.

“I hope this will encourage other victims to speak out in order to gain the justice they deserve and ensure that dangerous sex offenders are prevented from offending again.

“I would like to reassure anyone who has been or is a victim of child abuse, that they can contact the police and that they will be treated in a caring and sensitive manner.”

Pervert admits grooming an undercover decoy on-line

Andrew O'Neill - Skelmersdale

A man has admitted in court that he groomed an under-age girl.

Andrew O’Neill, 25 believed he was going to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex.

He had made contact on a dating website with a “girl” called Alex, Wigan Magistrates’ Court heard.

But after booking a hotel room and turning up to meet the girl in Wigan on Saturday afternoon, he was confronted by a number of men

Concerned shoppers witnessed the meet on Market Place in the town centre. Other members of the group filmed the incident.

He escaped and went to the police to report the assault.

The video was then posted on Facebook with the tag “NWI Nonce Busters” – believed to be a reference to right-wing group the North West Infidels. The video has since been taken down.

O’Neill, formerly of Castlehey, Skelmersdale, was charged by police after reporting the assault and admitted an offence of attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming, between April 11 and 18 .

He was remanded into custody for his own safety and will appear for sentence at Liverpool Crown Court on May 11.

Nicola Ormerod, prosecuting, said: “The defendant has contacted somebody said to be called ‘Alex’ on a profile on a dating website.

“General discussions then turn flirty and sexual and she said she is 14.

“There’s an arrangement made for the two parties to meet. The defendant has already booked a hotel room and is found in possession of a tube of lubricant.

“It’s been a set-up profile from a group. He thought this person was 14 and has arranged to meet for the relevant offence.

Andrea Woods, defending, said O’Neill had no previous convictions and co-operated with police.

Exmouth paedophile jailed for abusing girl of nine

perv

A pervert who abused a nine-year-old girl during tickling games has been jailed for four years.

Jamie Coombs put his hand down the girl’s trousers and made her touch him during the games which happened when she went to a house he was also visiting.

She endured the abuse for months before telling her family and although Coombs tried to deny it at first, he made a full admission after the police were called in.

Coombs, aged 24, of New North Road, Exmouth, admitted sexual assault and four offences of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was jailed for four years by Judge Simon Carr at Exeter Crown Court.

He told him:”This was a series of serious sexual offences against a nine-year-old girl. It is perfectly clears that after a short period of time you targeted her for your own sexual gratification.

“There were elements of grooming and you are still trying to minimise your actions by describing them as nothing more than play fighting.

“It happened over a protracted period of time until she eventually had the courage to tell what you were doing. No doubt but for her courage this abuse would be continuing.”

Mr Lee Bremridge, prosecuting, said the abuse happened when the girl and Coombs both visited the same house, him after finishing work and her after school.

She complained to her family and Coombs initially denied what he had been doing and said it was nothing more than play fighting and tickling.

The girl’s mother made a victim impact statement explaining how her daughter had been affected by the abuse and saying it had a severe negative impact.

Mr Barry White, defending, said Coombs had been honest and open to the police as soon as he was interviewed and had pleaded guilty at an early stage avoiding the girl the worry of a contested case.

He said:”There is no suggestion of threats or violence. At the time he was living a small life, going to work, going home and playing computer games.

“His best friend had moved away from the area and he was feeling lonely and down at a time in his life when the world should have been opening up to him. He says he has never had a girlfriend.”

Pervert sentenced after posing as teen to get young girl to send him indecent photographs

Merseyside Police has praised a young school girl who raised the alarm after a man posing as a teenage boy attempted to persuade her to share photographs of herself over the internet.

Christopher Allan, 31, of Spellow Lane, Everton was today given a two year prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to attend the Northumberland Sex Offender Programme. A Sexual Offences Prevention Order was also imposed, to last 10 years, and he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

Allan had pretended to the 11-year-old that he was 17 when in fact he was 30. He contacted the schoolgirl over Facebook one night last March and sent her an indecent picture of himself before trying to get her to do the same.

The girl became uneasy and suspicious and refused. She then told her mother and later showed the message and photograph to a police officer who works closely with her school.

The force’s hi-tech crime unit investigate the Facebook account holder which led them to Allan’s house in Spellow Lane, Kirkdale where he was arrested and his computer seized.

Allan was charged and at an earlier court hearing and pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to cause or incite a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming.

Superintendent Kevin Wellens said: “This was a disturbing case which has had a lasting effect on the whole family and in particular this young girl.

“Christopher Allan was determined in his pursuit of her and despite knowing she was just 11 years old, continued to ask her to send him explicit images. Often in such cases the offender claims to be someone they are not. Thankfully in this case, the victim realised this, understood the conversation was inappropriate and alerted her parents. Despite coming under pressure to do so, she refused to send any pictures.

“Although the offender then removed his social media profile, the girl was able to show a police officer the explicit photograph he’d sent her and this crucial evidence was captured. We were then able to identify him and bring him to justice, resulting in his sentencing today.”

The victim’s mum said: “My daughter is not the little girl she used to be. She no longer goes out of the house and instead will stay indoors and have a friend come to the house. She will no longer walk to and from school – she wants people with her at all times.

“She is very suspicious and nervous of people now. She worries she is going to run into Allan and that he will somehow get her. Even if she walks to the shops she will ring us and have us stay on the line as a comfort.

“The whole 12 months have put a tremendous strain on my family. There have been tensions, moments of anger and incredible stress. This has been a dark cloud over us for a year. This is something we have to continue to live with. I feel this will continue to affect her and has taken away some of her naivety.”

Superintendent Wellens added: “This case highlights the importance of all of us making sure we understand the risks that exist whenever we go online and how to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe when using the Internet.

“The web offers a degree of anonymity to criminals like Christopher Allan, allowing them to pretend to be someone they are not and gain trust and build relationships with younger people in order to exploit them for their own gain. These relationships may feel like genuine friendships for that child or teenager because so many of their real friendships with other youngsters are formed on the internet. But a 31-year-old man pretending to be a 17-year-old and sending explicit photographs to an 11-year-old is not a real friendship at all and Allan’s behaviour was nothing short of criminal.

“Fortunately the victim trusted her instincts, knew about how to stay safe online and refused to send any photographs of herself. Instead she did exactly the right thing and told an adult which allowed Allan to be caught and stopped from doing this to anyone else. Not all children are as astute, that’s why the police are working with schools and other organisations to do more to raise awareness and get all young people thinking about this.”

Police provided no picture of Allan.

Adam Hampton, 19, of Springhill Close, Willenhall, pleaded guilty to six charges of making indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of children, six of distributing the images, and two offences of possession of extreme pornographic images.

During sentencing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday, Mr Bernard Linnemann, prosecuting, said police attended Hampton’s home address on February 26 last year.

His parents were home but did not know about the pornography and were ‘taken by surprise’, Mr Linnemann said.

“He made substantial admissions about what he had been doing. He started looking at sexual images of children when he was 13, looking at images of children his own age.”

As far as ‘making’ the images, this relates to Hampton downloading them, he said, not creating them. Police found 895 photos and videos considered ‘Class A’, the most serious category, 1027 Class B, and 1808 Class C.

Hampton was also found to have distributed 154 Class A photos and videos, 256 Class B, and 212 Class C through a ‘particular website’ and on Skype.

He had 70 images considered to be ‘extreme pornography’. All of the children in the images were boys, Mr Linnemann said, and although the ‘great majority’ were aged between 10 and 15 there were ‘one or two exceptions’, including a baby aged nine to 12 months, and two instances of children under five.

When sentencing Hampton, Judge Michael Challinor said: “Many members of the public would expect any person who views the sort of vile material you have been in possession of and have distributed to go immediately to prison.

“Most people regard images showing sexual abuse of young children truly horrific and they simply can’t understand why people like you find it exciting.

“Very importantly this offending was taking place when you were a young teenager.“

If I thought this type of custodial sentence would turn you away from this type of offending better than any other sentence you would be going to jail this minute.”

Judge Challinor told Hampton the sentence would ‘force you to face up to your past predilections and therefore make you a safer member of society’.

Hampton was sentenced to a two-year community order with supervision, focusing on ‘turning him away from sexual offending’, must register as a sex offender for five years, will be subject to the provisions of the barring agency, and will be subject to a sexual offenders prevention order for five years.

His computer, mobile phone and images will be destroyed.

Sex offender facing jail after he took Devon holiday camp job

A sex offender has admitted breaking an order to stay away from children after getting a job at a seaside holiday park.

Michael Blyth was made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order after he was jailed for eight years for indecently assaulting boys in 1998.

It restricted his contact with children but he broke it when he lost his job as a well paid executive and was forced to find work as a cleaner at a holiday park in Devon.

Police also found images of serious child abuse on his computer when they checked his home, Exeter Crown Court was told.

Blyth, aged 59, of Cotehele Drive, , admitted four offences of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) and four of possessing indecent images of children.

The breaches of the SOPO involved him taking a job at a holiday park in Torbay and three instances in which he came into contact with children.

There was no suggestion he had committed any further offences against children and the case was adjourned for a probation pre sentence report by Judge Simon Carr.

He told him:”Custody is inevitable in this case but it is better to know something more about you. You should be under no illusion the sentence will be of some length.”

Miss Janice Eagles, prosecuting, said the Crown are not proceeding with other charges relating to images found on Blyth’s mobile phone because they are far less serious than those he has admitted to having on his computer.

Mr Gareth Evans, defending, said the background to the case was unusual because Blyth had done well after being released half way through his jail sentence in 2002.

He said:”Up until 2012 he lived a useful and purposeful life, gaining employment and reaching a managerial level with a salary of £35,000.

“Things went wrong when the supervising officer decided that because of the possibility of apprentices being employed, the company were in breach of the SOPO if her remained in employment.

“He lost his job and reverted to a more humble role as a cleaner. He is someone who had not been in difficulty for some time and had been doing rather well.”

Theme park worker found with more than 20,000 indecent images of children

A MAN who downloaded more than 20,000 indecent images of children from the internet walked free from court “by a short hair”.

James Simpson shared some of his sick pictures with other perverts in online chat rooms, Teesside Crown Court heard yesterday (Monday, April 20).

The 22-year-old was given a two-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to go on a sex offender treatment programme.

He was also given 150 hours of unpaid community work, and will be subject to probation supervision for the next two years.

The court heard how police went to his home in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, in February last year after a tip-off.

Acting on information from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre, officers seized a lap-top, iPhone and iPad.

Prosecutor Paul Newcombe said they found thousands of pictures and videos which the former theme park worker had searched for.

Simpson told police he had shared some of the images, and officers discovered that he had distributed more than 200.

Jonathan Walker, mitigating, said Simpson had been sent pictures of people which got younger and younger, and became obsessed.

He described his client as a “late developer” and said: “This evil fixation seems to have occurred around the time others of his age were moving on and growing families.”

Mr Walker added: “He was not in any way aware of the long-term effects and ramifications his actions, sat in a bedroom in Northallerton, could have on people-trafficking and the sort of horrific abuse that takes place directly as a result of this criminality.”

Simpson, of Ashlands Road, will also have his internet use restricted, and have to be on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Judge Peter Bowers told him: “Every pornographic image of a child on the internet represents a life that has been ruined, damaged and exploited.

“That child will have psychological baggage which they may carry for the rest of their lives.

“By simply viewing them, the viewer feeds this dreadful exploitation of these vulnerable kids. It is worldwide, that’s the reason we take a strong view.”

He added: “It is quite clear you became obsessed, and addicted almost, of viewing children in these circumstances, and it snowballed.

“Probation are of the strong opinion you undertake the sex offender treatment programme to gain an insight into your offending, and also that the public can be reassured you are not a risk.

“I think, by a very short hair, I am prepared to suspend the sentence.”

Man found guilty of indecent assaults of girl under the age of 14

A man from Slough has been found guilty of four counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 years.

Joseph Armotrading, 78, of Salthill Drive was found guilty by a majority verdict at Oxford Crown Court on Monday, April 13.

The offences took place between the late 1970s and early 1980s in High Wycombe, Oxford and Slough.

They all relate to one victim.

Armotrading was charged on May 22 and will be sentenced on May 18 at Oxford Crown Court.

“I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case in coming forward and speaking to police about what Armotrading did to her,” said Det Con Maria Morrisey, from Abingdon police station.

“Thames Valley Police takes all reports of this nature extremely seriously and will always conduct a thorough investigation, no matter how much time has passed.

“Armotrading has been found guilty by jury of this crime and can now expect to serve a lengthy prison sentence.”

Tenant’s sick animal porn stash contained photo of his landlord’s pet dog

lloyd

A landlord who was shown his ex-tenant’s animal porn stash by police was horrified to see his pet dog in the obscene picture.

Convicted sex offender Mark Lloyd, 30, was jailed for his stash of porn filth, which included his landlord’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Spartacus.

Police were given a tip that he was using chat rooms and his computer was seized.

But, when the flat-owner was shown one of the pictures by police, he shouted: “That’s my dog!”

As well as animal porn, police also recovered a number of indecent images of children covering “all categories and one extreme image”.

Prosecutor Nicholas Gareth Jones said: “Enquiries were made by police in relation to that photo involving the dog.

“The defendant’s landlord was able to identify the dog as his from the photo.”

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court was not told specifically what perverted Lloyd had done with Spartacus – apart from saying the picture was obscene.

Lloyd, from Rhondda, Wales, admitted possessing and distributing indecent images.

The Recorder of Cardiff Judge Eleri Rees jailed Lloyd for 30 months and made him the subject of a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

He will also have to sign as a sex offender indefinitely.

Pervert had sick baby fantasy

A PERVERT has been jailed for four years for fantasising about kidnapping and raping a baby before strangling it.

Mark Lloyd, 24, of Brook Place, Pentre, made his sick confession after logging on to teen internet chatrooms looking for girls for sex.

Lloyd told how he wanted to steal a baby, rape and strangle it before burning the body to destroy DNA evidence.

Another chatroom user was so disturbed by Lloyd’s “persistence” they contact the police who arrested him the next day.

Prosecutor Hilary Roberts said: “Lloyd suggested to another person in an internet chat room that they abduct a small child – preferably a baby.

“He then said they would rape the child and drown or strangle it.

“He said they would have to burn the body to remove any DNA evidence.

“Lloyd said he would get gratification from hearing a child screaming in pain because of what he’d done.”

Police swooped on his Rhondda home after being alerted to his grotesque fantasy.

Mr Roberts said: “Lloyd admitted what he said – but said it was stupid fantasy talk and he never meant it.

“He told police he had downloaded sexual images and films on to his girlfriend’s computer from the internet but had deleted them.”

Lloyd was sentenced to four years in prison for threats to kill and downloading child pornography.

Judge David Wynn Morgan told Lloyd he must register on the sex offenders register for life and is banned from ever working with children.

He said: “It’s plain you have an interest – if not an obsession – in pornography.

“You are dangerous. You have tried to minimise and justify attitudes and behaviour that cannot be minimised or justified.

“You need treatment in a sex offenders programme to protect the public.”
