Pervert caught grooming a child on-line by undercover investigation team (OPIT)

Untitled

At the hearing on 25th September, 2014 at Derby Crown Court Peter Mitchell, 48 years old from Blidworth, near Mansfield. Nottingham, pleaded guilty to four (4) charges in relation to an investigation carried out by OPIT in August 2013.

Count one: Attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 by way of grooming, where you intend to engage in a sexual act.

Count two: Attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 by way of grooming, where you intend to engage in a sexual act.

Count three: Making a still image of a child that is category A, Count four: Making a still image of a child that is category C

In August 2013, Mr Mitchell travelled from his home in Blidworth, Mansfield, to Alvaston Park in Derby, expecting to meet a girl he believed to be under 16 years of age.

This meeting was set up after just a few days of messaging via Facebook.

The chat was extremely graphic, one such message Mr Mitchell sent to her was “make sure you bring a spare pair of pants, because yours are going to be soaking wet”.

Mr Mitchell discovered he was being filmed by OPIT and drove away at speed.

Within two hours he had arranged to meet with another girl, again who he believed to be under 16 years of age in Tesco’s car park in Alfreton, Derbyshire some 14 miles away.

He told this girl he had just been filmed trying to meet a young girl.

The OPIT team, again recorded him waiting in his car for this girl to turn up.

He spotted that he was being recorded again and drove away.

On arrest, images of a sexual nature that included children was found on his computer equipment.

The case has been adjourned to the 21st of October, 2104 at Derby Crown Court so that reports can be prepared to help the court decide upon an appropriate sentence.

‘Child sex game’ rapist jailed

A former Gwent miner has been jailed for seven years at Cardiff Crown Court for raping a schoolgirl at his home.

Philip Jones lured the girl into playing an adult board game called “fantasy for lovers”.

The girl, now 15, told how Jones of Beech Grove, Oakdale, near Blackwood, took off her clothes as she kept on losing in the game.

Divorced Jones, aged 39, teased the girl into playing the game on her birthday after claiming he played it with his former wife.

The girl told a jury; “if your counter landed on certain squares you had to take the other person’s clothes off. I went along because I thought it was just a fun game.

The next thing I knew was that I ended up half naked. David Morris, prosecuting described how the girl landed on a forfiet square during the game.

She had been stripped down to her bra and long T-shirt as odd-job man Jones, aged 39, asked her to carry out the forfiet in front of the open fireplace.

Mr Morris said “Jones told the schoolgirl to play a pretend tennis shot when she landed on a forfiet square.” “Jones stripped naked and held her arms to help her play the tennis shot,” said Mr Morris.

But the court heard Jones then told her; “I like your body.” Jones then asked the girl to try on lingerie he bought his wife.

She said; “He said he missed his wife wearing the underwear and asked me to put them on.

He then took photographs of me.” Jones is then alleged to have told her; “I can`t wait until you are 16 when I can do all the things I want to do to you.”

Cardiff Crown Court heard how the girl was a regular visitor to Jones`s house.

But the girl told how he began touching her during her visits. She said; “He used to tickle my bottom and said not to tell anybody. I didn`t like it, but I was too frightened to tell anybody.

I was frightened about what he might to do me or my family.” Out-of-work Jones is alleged to have raped the girl when she fell asleep on the settee during a later visit.

The girl told how she had been feeling ill, but awoke to find Jones on top of her forcing her to have sex. Jones admitted owning the “Fantasy for Lovers” boardgame, but said he had never played it.

He said he bought it to play with a lover after his first marriage broke up, but ‘never got round’ to playing it. But Jones admitted owning sex aids, a quantity of pornographic literature and a quantity of women’s underwear.

Jones denied rape, attempted rape and three charges of indecent assault, but he was found guilty.

Prison for police clerk who stole sex abuse & rape files from Huddersfield Police HQ

Police (1)

Huddersfield Police Station

A perverted police station worker stole a disc filmed by a rapist attacking his victim and other evidence, a court heard.

Property clerk Ian Michael Carter stole memory sticks and a disc containing “sensitive” photos of victims in sex cases for his own gratification.

Now the man who worked at Huddersfield Police headquarters for 16 years has been jailed, with words of condemnation from a judge.

Jailing him for 20 months, Judge Rodney Jameson QC said “It is the most terrible and disgraceful breach of trust not just to your employers but to these victims.

“It is a breach of trust of the most sensitive sort of material it is really possible to imagine taken by you from your employers when they should have been destroyed and used instead for the purpose of sexual gratification.”

The photos were among evidence which should have been destroyed but instead were taken home by Carter, who was a clerk in the property store at Huddersfield police station.

The photos were on a disc was found in a sports bag in the attic when police searched his address in February after concerns were expressed by other employees and was found to come from a rape prosecution.

Michael Slater prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court the offender in that case had filmed his rape of the victim without her knowledge when she was senseless through drink.

At the conclusion of the case the officer involved had gone through the appropriate procedures to have items either returned or destroyed.

According to a computer audit Carter had destroyed it in 2009 but that was clearly not the case.

Mr Slater said eight memory sticks were found in a bedside table of a rear bedroom at Carter’s home in Blackmoorfoot Road, Crosland Moor.

Tests showed all at some time had been plugged into his laptop. “These were all exhibits from a voyeurism investigation,” said Mr Slater.

He told the court the defendant in that case had used a spy pen camera to take naked images of family members in the bathroom, some of whom were under 18. They too had been marked as destroyed in the records.

The court heard the police search also uncovered other indecent images and extreme pornography involving animals which had no connection to Carter’s work.

On the hard drive of his laptop several images were found of girls as young as six posing mainly with clothes on but one was of a teenage girl in a bath.

Images were also found on 10 computer discs including 711 at the lowest level C, 26 at level B and 7 at level A, the highest level of seriousness.

Mr Slater said police viewed 70 DVDs which were found to have extreme pornography on them involving adult women and animals.

When first interviewed Carter said he used his laptop to view pornography but denied items had been brought from his work.

He later claimed the images found must have been bought by him from a stall in Huddersfield market which was where the got his adult pornography from.

Grey-haired Carter, 50, admitted two charges of theft, two of making indecent images, two of possessing indecent images and possessing extreme pornography.

The judge said he accepted Carter had been suffering depression and other emotional stress while caring for his mother in the last year’s of her life but the majority of people in that situation did not resort to such offending.

The judge said he had also read references showing his positive good character and the impact a jail term would have on his wife, but there had to be an immediate prison sentence.

Dad posed as teen to entice young girls

A married dad pretended to be an Canadian hunk with film-star looks to groom young schoolgirls.

Michael Easton, 32 had a wife and three children at home.

But unknown to his family he had created a fake Facebook profile – complete with fake photographs – pretending he was a teenage heart throb from halfway around the world, Newcastle crown court heard.

Easton, of Park Terrace Swalwell, Gateshead, contacted a 14-year-old girl over the internet and asked her for indecent photos.

She soon realized he was much older from the words he was using and logged off, the court heard.

But Easton had already spent a year grooming another 14-year-old girl during a long running grooming process over the web and by text.

Judge Roger Thorn QC said: “You adopted a false persona, a young Canadian aged 17 to 18, with a photo of almost film-star proportions to a youngster.

“You clearly have a very embedded sexual interest in underage girls.”

Easton admitted inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing her to watch a sexual act and attempting to facilitate the commission of a child sex offence.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing an indecent photograph of the 14-year-old he had befriended after he persuaded her to send him a topless shot.

Easton was given a 12-month jail term suspended for two years with supervision.

He must attend a sex offender treatment programme and register with police for the next seven years.

James Adkin, prosecuting, said a check of Easton’s fake Facebook account showed he had 75 friends.

Mr Adkin added: “The vast majority were females aged about 14.”

The mother of the girl Easton befriended told in a victim impact statement how the family had to leave the area.

Gavin Doig, mitigating, said Easton had lost his marriage, job and had almost no contact with his children since his arrest last year.

He told the court: “He is the only person to blame and that is a great burden on his conscience.

“He didn’t have any intention to meet the girls, there was no physical contact and he has no previous convictions.”

Man who subjected three young boys to a series of sexual assaults over two years has been sent to prison

Donald Hindmoor

Donald Hindmoor, 56, of Market Place, Cockermouth, abused the boys, the youngest believed to be just nine at the time, during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Carlisle Crown Court was told how the boys visited Hindmoor because he had a computer – a rarity during the time of the offences.

“The defendant used that as an opportunity to take sexual advantage of them,” said prosecutor Tim Evans.

When the boys went into Hindmoor’s room he subjected them to a series of sexual assaults. Hindmoor also used the visits as an opportunity to show the boys pornographic images while they sat on his knee.

“He would then move to touching him,” added Mr Evans.

The boys were told to keep the incidents a secret while Hindmoor gave them money and toys as an incentive to keep quiet.

The court also heard statements from two of the complainants who spoke of how they “carried the shame of it” since they were children.

One of them told of how their once-promising school life was destroyed by Hindmoor’s actions and it sent him “off the rails”.

He was sentenced to nine years in prison on 15 counts of indecent assault, charges he had previously admitted.

Sentencing him, Judge Paul Batty said: “This was appalling conduct. You abused and groomed all three of them for your own sexual satisfaction and gratification. You corrupted them by giving them presents.”

Speaking to the News & Star after the case, Detective Constable Andrea Davidson said: “This case shows that Cumbria police will prosecute those who engage in this sort of behaviour.

“We are happy with the sentence issued and are pleased that Hindmoor will be removed from society.”

Telford teen spared jail over child sex images on work computer

A Telford teenager has avoided an immediate jail term despite admitting to having hundreds of indecent images of children on his laptop and mobile phone.

Haydn Page, 19, of Townsend Croft, Donnington, was given a community order after pleading guilty to six counts of making and possessing indecent images, including one count of extreme pornography.

Page spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Mr Kevin Jones, prosecuting, told the court the images of children had been found on a laptop used by Page for work. He said Page’s employers had asked him for the password while he was not at work.

“There was some resistance and he said he wasn’t sure what was in its internet history,” Mr Jones said.

“When the computer was being used in the normal way indecent images and or movies were found. A number or people in the course of the investigation unfortunately viewed these images.”

He said they were also seen by Page’s foster mother before being handed to the police. The court was told that police had seized mobiles phones and the laptop in the investigation and found more than 200 indecent images and movies.

Mr Paul Smith, for Page, said: “He is surrounded by people who have acted extremely diligently. Unfortunately he no longer has the job he did have but he is hoping to move on to other employment.”

Judge Peter Barrie gave Page a two-year community order and ordered him to pay £250.

He warned him: “Make sure you don’t come back to court.”

Jail for child rapist snared with help from Russian’s

greenwood

A Blackpool man who raped a young girl and also carried out a string of other sexual offences has been given a lengthy extended prison sentence.

Timothy Greenwood (pictured) had accessed 72 indecent videos involving children, plus 22 still images.

In addition to that, he had also tried to get another young girl to touch him sexually.

Greenwood, 38, of Lonsdale Road, South Shore, had denied one charge of rape and another of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

But a jury had convicted him following a trial.

He had pleaded guilty to 18 other offences – 12 of making indecent images of children, three of possessing such material, plus three offences of having prohibited image of a child.

Preston Crown Court heard the rape was carried out on a girl under 13.

The judge dealing with his case said he had found what Greenwood said about that to police “troubling”.

He told officers: “She didn’t really stop me. I thought if she didn’t want me to do that at the time she would have stopped me.”

Jeremy Lasker, prosecuting, said Greenwood came to the notice of police as a result of information received from the Russian authorities.

He was identified through an internet provider.

When police went to him he said: “I know what you are talking about.

“It was out of curiosity. It’s one video”.

Computer equipment was seized and he indicated which was the relevant material for them to analyse.

Greenwood accepted having searched the internet for indecent material.

He admitted to police he liked to watch indecent videos of young girls, he said, between seven and 16 years of age.

A total of 22 still images were found, plus seventy two indecent videos.

Mr Lasker added: “One of the disturbing aspects of the indecent material was the very young age of the children involved.

“Many of them were as young as three or four years of age.”

The offences of causing a child to engage in sexual activity had involved asking a girl under 10 to touch him. The girl never agreed to do it.

Nick Kennedy, defending, said a background report by the probation service described Greenwood as having an enduring interest in children.

“The defendant does appear to provide a degree of insight into the problem he has.

“He is at least taking the right steps in the right direction.

“If he continues to demonstrate an ability to confront his problems and have them treated then the risks will be reduced very much further”.

In passing sentence, judge Stuart Baker told the defendant: “My view at this stage is that you do today present a significant risk to members of the public, in particular, to girls under the age of 16, of causing them serious harm by they commission of further offences.”

He passed a sentence of 11 years prison with five years extended licence.

Glasgow child killer could be released from mental hospital after 47 years

Sam-Glass

A CHILD killer locked up for almost half a century is hoping he will be released soon.

Pensioner Sam Glass (pictured above aged 20 years old) is believed to be Scotland’s longest-serving prisoner.

He has been held at the State Hospital in Carstairs, Lanarkshire for the past 47 years.

But the 67-year-old murderer, once regarded by experts as too dangerous to be freed, is likely to be transferred to a low security unit as part of preparation for possible release.

Glass, whose incarceration is thought to have cost the taxpayer £10million, murdered Jean Hamilton when she was just five years old.

He abducted her from the communal courtyard of a block of flats where his mother lived in Glasgow’s East End.

After snatching Jean, Glass took her to a disused railway tunnel where he sexually assaulted her, then stabbed her with a needle, strangled her and hid the body.

Now, it is understood that the paedophile, who was 20 when he committed the crime, could be released and freed like notorious axe murderer and former Carstairs patient Thomas McCulloch.

McCulloch, who was released last year, killed three people during an escape from the hospital in 1976.

A source said: “Glass was one of those expected to be here for life but medics who have worked with him recently believe he can be made ready to move on and possibly even progress to the community.

“There was a lot of unease about McCulloch, who was our most notorious patient ever but he has worked out pretty well.”

But Jean’ sister, Josephine Hamilton-Smith, says she has grave concerns over plans to allow Glass to walk free.

She said: “If he has been behind bars all this time, I don’t think he should ever be released into society.

“Jean’s life was cut short when she was only five.

“But he was still able to live his life. Even though he’s in Carstairs, he’s still alive. Our family all got a life sentence when he killed Jean. People don’t realise what that can do to a family.

“Maybe he has mellowed a wee bit because he’s older.

“But 47 years? There’s got to be something wrong with somebody that has been in a mental institution all that time.”

Ms Hamilton-Smith added: “I remember him and I can remember the terror and terrifying state that wee soul must have been in.

“I just hope she was killed quickly. I don’t know the true extent of her injuries but I know that it was horrific.”

“I can forgive a lot but I don’t think I could ever forgive him. I try to put it in my mind that it was the system that let him and my sister down.”

Carstairs nursing director, Stephen Milloy said the NHS was unable to comment on Glass but confirmed that patients serving sentences at the hospital are routinely released after rehabilitation treatment.

He said: “Any transfers out have been when patients are at the appropriate stage of their treatment.”

Coundon sex offender jailed for failing to live permanently at notified address was helping his disabled father

A SEX offender given a short prison sentence for failing to live at the home address given to police was helping his disabled father, a court heard.

Carl Andrew Wright, 25, was made subject to notification as a sex offender for five years following his conviction for four counts of possessing an indecent image of a child, on December 4, last year.

Durham Crown Court heard that Wright, of Collingwood Street, Coundon, near Bishop Auckland, was visited and arrested by a police public protection officer monitoring his movements on August 12.

Joanne Kidd, prosecuting, said: “It became apparent that over the course of the summer he had regularly been living at his father, George’s house, in Tudhoe Moor, near Spennymoor.”

Miss Kidd said Wright’s father had physical disabilities and his son was assisting him in his care.

“He had been living there on at least 25 days over the previous few weeks and Mr Wright was unaware of any restrictions his son was subject to, regarding accommodation,” she said.

Miss Kidd said during the course of his police interview Wright “expressed confusion” as to the exact terms of the restrictions placed on him, but he accepted he had been staying at his father’s address, assisting in his care.

The court was told Wright’s conviction related to him befriending a 14-year-old girl, “grooming” her and encouraging her to send him naked photographs of herself, which were found in his possession.

Wright admitted failing to meet the terms of his registration as a sex offender, over a period from July 1 to August 11.

Andrew White, in mitigation, said he had to concede that Wright’s failure to comply with the registration terms, “cross the custody threshold”.

“He did plead guilty straightaway when the case went before the magistrates.

“He’s remorseful and regrets what happened.

“But, he went to assist his disabled father who was seriously ill and assisted in giving him 24/7 care.

“That was his motivation.

“There was no suggestion anything untoward happened while he was there.

“This is not a case of a sex offender ‘going to ground’.

“His father now knows, however, about his conviction and has broken all ties with his son,” admitted Mr White.

Recorder Jonathan Bennett said: “When you were convicted over the indecent images you would have been given a form and it will have been explained to you about registration.

“I take a serious view of this breach as it was not that long after it was put in place.”

He imposed a 12-week prison sentence on Wright, who will remain subject to notification requirements on his release.

Leeds pervert caught in police internet operation

A PERVERT was arrested after a police sting when he made a series of disgusting sexual comments to an officer pretending to be a 14-year-old girl in an internet chatroom.

A court heard Charles Waddington was then found have downloaded child abuse images onto a laptop when officers raided his home in Morley.

Leeds Crown Court heard Waddington, 41, was caught as part of an operation by Cumbria Police.

A female officer, pretending to be a schoolgirl called Sophie, accessed an internet chatroom and was contacted by Waddington.

Waddington told the girl he was a 31-year-old gynaecologist. The married dad claimed he was single and soon began making sexual remarks.

He told the ‘girl’ that he want to kiss her and share his double bed with her. Waddington then offered to swap photographs with her and asked if she had a webcam.

He also offered to drive to Cumbria to meet her.

The court heard Waddington was involved about 20 conversations during February this year before officers were able to identify who he was and where he lived.

A search warrant was executed at his home and a laptop was seized.

Waddington admitted to officers that he had been involved in the chatroom conversations but denied downloading any illegal images.

It was later revealed that he had accessed 61 abusive images of children.

Waddington, of High Street, Morley, pleaded guilty to attempting sexual activity with a female under the age of 16 and four offences of possessing indecent images of children.

Kitty Taylor, mitigating, said Waddington had pleaded guilty to the offences at an early opportunity.

The court heard he has lost his job as a result of the convictions but his wife was standing by him.

Waddington was made the subject of a three-year community order during which he must take part in a sex offenders treatment programme.

Judge Neil Clarke told Waddington he would be jailed for 16 months if he failed to comply with the order.

He said: “I urge you to consider the embarrassment and upset you caused your family because of your perverted desires to look at images in this way.”

VILE pervert who filmed himself sexually abusing a baby girl jailed for 12 years

Untitled

The owners of Martin Hunt’s former home in Southcroft Road, Kirby Cross, tipped off police when they found a disc with sickening images on, hidden behind kitchen units.

Hunt, 24, was eventually tracked down when police found indecent images at a paedophile’s house in Frinton, Kent and a trail of emails linking him to the abuse.

Judge Patricia Lynch QC jailed him for 12 years and gave him an extended licence of eight years when he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court.

It means he could be recalled to prison if he offends again within 20 years of his release.

He will serve at least nine years in prison before he is considered for parole.

Judge Lynch described the abuse as appalling and horrendous.

The judge praised Det Sgt Katie Mead and the investigation for their efforts to track Hunt down.

Hunt was caught after police arrested a man in Kent in December, 2013, on suspicion of sexually abusing two young girls.

Officers found an email from Hunt in which he admitted sexually abusing a girl he had sent pictures of.

Prosecutor Diane Pigot said: ‘Among his possessions were a T-shirt and gold chains he was wearing in the images. There was clearly evidence of sharing of indecent images.’

Miss Pigot said the owners of Hunt’s former house found a disc containing indecent images during redecorating works.

Hunt admitted 19 charges, including sexual assault and making, distributing and possessing indecent images.

Internet chat room groomer flew to Canada to meet 13-year-old girl

A 37-year-old Hull man flew to Canada to meet a teenage girl he had been grooming on the Internet, a court heard.

When Brett Moses arrived in Vancouver, he then took an 11 hour bus journey to meet the 13-year-old in Grand Forks.

He was stopped by Canadian police following concerns by the parents of one of the girl’s friends.

Moses, a security guard in Hull, has now been given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after earlier pleading guilty to sexual grooming.

Hull Crown Court heard that he first started speaking to the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on an Internet chat room in 2004.

He claimed to be a 13-year-old called John Smith and initially spoke to the girl’s father.

It was him who introduced Moses to his daughter, having heard claims of “John” being beaten and abused by a foster father.

The correspondence continued for seven or eight months, in which time Moses was introduced online to some of the 13-year-old’s friends.

It was June 2005 when Moses travelled to Canada.

On arrival to Grand Forks, he telephoned the 13-year-old girl, but got no reply.

He then called her friend, whose parents questioned Moses and went to meet him, asking to see identification.

The prosecution said Moses claimed to have lost his ID, saying he was Brian Patterson and that John Smith was his foster son, and had been too ill to travel.

Eventually Moses confessed to the authorities, was detained and deported to the UK, where he was met by British police.

Brian Darwent – Rotherham

Evil pervert jailed

A PAEDOPHILE who faked his own death to escape the threat of jail was today starting a four and a half year sentence.

Evil Brian Darwent — who was a children’s party entertainer — was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court after admitting sexually abusing a young boy and a girl.

He was also banned from working with children.

One of his victims, Emma, now aged 24, sobbed throughout the sentencing while clutching mum Gill who is Darwent’s ex-wife.

Speaking after the court case, Emma said: “Four and a half years does not replace the last 15 years of my life.

“I have blocked out my teenage years but today is the day when I start again.”

Darwent, 42, was arrested in Inverness last month and remanded in custody after failing to appear for sentencing in November last year.

Darwent, of Northfield Lane, Flanderwell, Rotherham had dumped his van near the Humber Bridge and written two suicide notes on the day he was due in court.

Yesterday Darwent was finally sentenced after pleading guilty to four charges of indecent assault in episodes dating back 15 years. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice.

In his summing up Judge David Bentley QC said: “Ever since you pleaded guilty you have done all you can to avoid the consequences of this.”

Mum-of-two Emma — formerly Darwent’s stepdaughter — put her hands over her ears as details of the sex abuse was read out in court.

Judge Bentley continued: “Emma suffered at your hands and you took advantage of her when she was very young and she had the appalling experience of being called a liar when she raised her head and complained.

“What you did to her when she was a little girl has created huge difficulties for her when she was growing up; that’s the kind of damage you have done.”

Three of the indecent assault charges related to the boy victim — who cannot be named for legal reasons. The abuse on the boy began when he was eight years old, with Darwent fondling the youngster while threatening him to keep quiet.

Darwent admitted the three charges as well as one offence against Emma when he was married to her mum Gill Ware.

While Emma was at their home in Killamarsh, Darwent indecently assaulted her when she was just 10-years-old.

The court heard how Darwent smiled at her as he carried out the sex attack despite Emma pleading with him to stop.

Emma spoke out about her ordeal in 1994, but her mum didn’t believe her until years later.

As a result, Emma spent time in foster care and after the court hearing admitted she was unsuccessful at school as she tried to come to terms with what happened to her.

Gill and Darwent divorced in 2001 and speaking after the case, she said: “It’s disgusting — four and a half years is not long enough.”

BACKGROUND

Charming exterior of my monster husband

BENEATH the charm and good looks lie a perverted monster who sexually abused two innocent children.

On the surface, Brian Darwent ran a successful karaoke business for pubs and children’s parties as well as working as a mechanic.

He married Gill Ware in Scotland back in 1989 and the couple were very much in love.

So when young Emma spoke out about the sex abuse, mum Gill didn’t believe her.

“I just believed everything he said, he was my husband,” said Gill after the court case. “He was very personable, charismatic — a real charmer.”

The couple divorced in 2001 when Darwent had an affair.

But in August 2002, Darwent was arrested and originally charged with 13 counts of indecent assault. He pleaded guilty to four charges of indecent assault, against two victims last September.

But the nightmare worsened after Darwent faked his own death when he was due to be sentenced in November.

“We were at Sheffield Crown Court waiting for him to be sentenced and he didn’t turn up. The police then told us he had committed suicide,” said Gill, of Paper Mill Road, Shiregreen.

“I knew Brian would not have committed suicide because he didn’t have the guts to do it. I said all along ‘look in Scotland’.”

The family lived in fear for the five months that Darwent was missing until he was finally arrested in Inverness.

He was captured after officers traced a car he bought, which was thought to have been insured in his own name.

“I was so pleased when they found him. We are just very disappointed with the sentence.”

April 2004

Sex attacker is locked up

THE victim of a sex attacker who faked his own death to escape the threat of jail today expressed relief he is finally behind bars.

Brian Darwent was arrested in Inverness five months after failing to appear to be sentenced for indecently assaulting two youngsters in episodes dating back 15 years.

He dumped his van near the Humber Bridge and wrote a suicide note on the day he was due in court, causing police and family to fear he had taken his life.

But Darwent, aged 40, of Northfield Lane, Flanderwell, Rotherham, was captured after officers traced a car he bought, which was thought to have been insured in his own name.

He has now been returned to Sheffield Crown Court and remanded in custody until a hearing later this month when he will be sentenced.

One of Darwent’s victims, his former stepdaughter Emma Sanderson, aged 24, had kept her doors and windows at her house in Killamarsh locked for fear he might return.

His other victim was a boy.

Emma said: “I’m just relieved that he can’t come and get me now. When the police told me, at first I couldn’t believe it.

“Then I thought: ‘Thank God for that’. Now he’s going to get what he deserves, which is all we’ve wanted.”

Darwent appeared in court accused of failing to surrender to custody as well as the four indecent assaults he had already admitted.

His return to South Yorkshire ends months of anguish for his siblings, who feared he was dead and remain shocked at his admissions in court.

Darwent was arrested and originally charged with 13 counts of indecent assault.

He pleaded guilty to four charges of indecent assault, against two victims, when he appeared in September.

A relative, who does not want to be named, said: “It’s a relief to know he’s all right, but he’s got no idea what he’s put this family through.

“I was just getting over things. Now I have to go through it all again.”

Sex offender fails to cut 20-yr prison sentence for repeatedly raping and sexually abusing 14-year-old schoolgirl

An “insidious” sex offender who subjected a teenage schoolgirl to a “campaign of rape” can have no complaint about his 20-year jail term, top judges have ruled.

Roger John Maynard, 47, repeatedly raped and sexually abused the 14-year-old girl in vile, historic, offences which have “blighted” her life ever since.

Maynard, of Ninfield Road, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, was jailed at Lewes Crown Court in April after he was convicted after a nine-day trial of multiple counts of rape and indecent assault.

On Tuesday (September 23) three senior judges at London’s Appeal Court rejected a sentence challenge by Maynard, saying it was “impossible to say” his punishment was too harsh.

Mr Justice Spencer said Maynard had groomed the girl before raping and sexually assaulting her numerous times.

He pressured her into sex – physically forcing her at one point- and got her to touch his privates and to perform sex acts on him.

The victim, who has suffered years of mental turmoil over the abuse, kept it to herself until the details emerged while she underwent hypnotherapy in 2011.

This led to Maynard’s arrest in September, 2012.

He denied any wrongdoing but was ultimately found guilty by a jury. Maynard had previous convictions for indecently assaulting two teenage girls, the court heard.

On jailing him, the sentencing judge said Maynard had used manipulation to force his victim into satisfying his “repulsive desires” and described his sex offending as a “campaign of rape”.

The victim had “suffered greatly” and Maynard’s abuse had “blighted her life forever”, the judge observed.

Wearing glasses and a blue shirt, Maynard watched from prison via a video link as his counsel, Julian Dale, argued that the sentence imposed was excessive.

Most of his crimes did not involve violence or threats, the barrister argued.

Mr Justice Spencer, sitting with Lord Justice Pitchford and Mr Justice Irwin, accepted that in all but one of the offences Maynard had not employed significant physical force.

“However,” he added, “there was here an insidious manipulation of the complainant by Maynard and moral pressure brought to bear upon her, which can be – and in our view was – as serious.”

He concluded: “In these circumstances, we find it impossible to say that a total sentence of 20 years was manifestly excessive.”

PERVERT STRIPPED BEFORE GIRL (6)

A TWISTED support care worker from Rutherglen, who stripped naked in front of a six year-old girl, and got her to “squirt” ointment on him, faces a lengthy jail term.

Paedophile Adam Dallas, 54, who was sacked when the horrific offence was reported to police, pled guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday.

Dallas, of 50 Springhall Court, admitted on an occasion between March 1 and 10, 2007, to using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour towards the toddler, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The vile crime happened at a house in Moodiesburn, Glasgow, while Dallas was caring for the youngster, and “trusted” by her parents.

The court heard how bachelor Dallas ripped off his clothes and induced her to “squirt” ointment on his private parts, and then rubbed it into himself as the little girl looked on.

Prosecutor Liam Haggart said: “He is single and lives alone. He worked as a support provider with care services at the time of the offence.

“The girl was aged six at the time and had been to the shops with her that day. He was known to her parents, who trusted him.

“When they got back to the house he went upstairs and undressed. The girl followed him and encountered him totally naked. He made no attempt to cover himself up. He suffers from a skin disorder and is in the habit of using creams.

“He asked her to hold the bottle and squirt some of it on his private parts. She did this and he then rubbed it in while she watched.

“He then got dressed and they went downstairs and watched television together.

“The girl returned home later and her mother smelt the cream on her hand. When her daughter told her what had happened she was shocked, and played down the incident for fear of frightening the little girl.

“The matter was reported to police and when he was interviewed he accepted he had been naked and his actions were wholly inappropriate.”

Defence counsel, Sheena Fraser, said: “He tendered a plea of guilty and has saved the little girl from having to give evidence in front of a jury.”

Sheriff Robert H Dickson told sex beast Dallas: “Given the nature of the offence and your total breach of trust and the seriousness of this matter, bail will be refused.”

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports, including a risk assessment. He was put on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Accrington paedophile jailed for ‘horrific’ sex attack

acc

DANGEROUS pervert who molested an ‘extremely young’ girl and told her it was ‘their secret’, is behind bars for four years.

Burnley Crown Court heard how former part-time soldier, Stephen Morrison, 39, who was said to have been monitoring his victim’s movements, followed her to a toilet and sexually abused her.

Morrison, who claimed to have been under the influence of drink and drugs when he struck, was said to be unable to explain his sordid behaviour and it was for that reason a judge ruled he posed a significant risk of serious harm to children.

The defendant himself described what he had done as ‘horrific’.

Morrison, of Exchange Street, Accrington, admitted sexual assault and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

He was also given three years’ extended licence, was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life, received a 10-year sexual offences prevention order and was banned from working with children for life.

David Ryan, for Morrison, said he recognised the only possible sentence he could receive was immediate custody.

Man jailed for sex with schoolgirl aged 13

A SHERIFF jailed a pervert who twice had sex with an under-age girl despite his solicitor saying he would be “cannon fodder” in prison.

Linlithgow Sheriff Court heard that diminutive Mike Duncan, 24, had been involved in a sexual relationship with the girl.

He became aware that she was actually only 13 years old and he insists at this stage that he tried to break off the relationship.

However, defence solicitor Ian Bryce said when this “proved difficult” he tried to put himself in a situation where they couldn’t have sex.

But the court heard that he “ultimately failed to do that” and on March 21 last year he twice had sex with the girl.

Last week Duncan, from Knightsridge, Livingston, pleaded guilty to the offence.

Mr Bryce said Duncan was someone who was emotionally and physically immature.

Mr Bryce added: “He doesn’t present as someone who is predatory in tracking down young girls.

“Because he is immature he feels more at home with people of a younger age.

“It is significant that this offending took place in a relationship and no coercion was involved.

“He has not behaved appropriately — there is no doubt about that — but there are not the sinister undertones you can get in cases like this.

“It does seem clear that a custodial sentence is not going to rectify what problems led him here today.

“He would, frankly, be cannon fodder in a prison environment.

“He does express regret about what happened.

“He took some steps to resolve this, but he didn’t follow these through.”

But Sheriff Thomas Ward said Duncan was aware of what he was doing and had no option but to jail him for four months.

Sheriff Ward said: “The person that requires to be protected in this particular case is a 13-year-old girl.

“You were perfectly well aware on March 21, 2008, that this girl was only 13 and you had sexual i ntercourse with her.

“You were not a teenager – you were 22 at the time – and you obviously knew what you were doing was wrong and illegal but you had sex not once, but twice with a 13-year-old.

“I have considered all the reports but I am satisfied that the only way to deal with you on this particular charge is by a period of imprisonment.”

Man jailed for sex with girl, 12

abbas

A man who had sex with an 12 year old schoolgirl has been jailed for 12 years.

Mohammed Abbas, 30, groomed the girl when she was 12 years old and took her to a park where he tried to have sex with her.

He would drive her around in his black BMW and take her to houses for sex. She would often not return home for several days.

The offences came to light as part of Operation Erle, a proactive inquiry by Cambridgeshire Constabulary and Peterborough City Council into child sexual exploitation.

The victim was identified during another investigation.

Abbas, previously of Gladstone Street, Peterborough, initially went on trial in June, however a jury at Peterborough Crown Court failed to reach a verdict.

A retrial started on Monday (September 22) and he was convicted of two counts of sexual assault on a girl under 13 by penetration and two specimen charges of sexual activity with a child.

He was sentenced to 12 years for the sexual assault charges and eight years for the sexual activity, to run concurrently

He will be deported after serving his sentence.

He is the ninth person to be convicted under Operation Erle and brings the total sentences passed by judges in the inquiry to 101 years and nine months. Further trials are anticipated.

Detective Superintendent Gary Ridgway said: “Abbas targeted and groomed a girl he knew to be underage for his own sexual gratification.

“His actions have hugely disrupted this young girl’s life and will have a lasting effect on her.

“She has shown great bravery in giving evidence against him at both trials in order that he be brought to justice and hopefully the verdicts will help her start to move on with her life.

“This is another example of how determined we are to tackle the exploitation of young people and will continue to work with partner agencies to identify those at risk and keep them safe from harm.”

Executive Director of Children’s Services for Peterborough City Council, Sue Westcott said: “This verdict represents further proof that we, alongside the police, are working relentlessly to bring to justice men who prey on young people.

“Once again this represents justice for a victim who had the courage to stand up in court and relive some very difficult experiences. Without this we could not have achieved this result.

“We are determined to stop these crimes happening in our city and we will continue to do everything in our power, along with the police, to stop girls becoming victims in the first place.
