Judge jails Leighton Buzzard paedophile for 24 years

EVIL paedophile Barry Warren was given an extended prison sentence of 24 years today for a series of depraved sexual assaults on youngsters going back over 20 years.

Warren, 63, an architect who was well known around his home town of Leighton Buzzard was also a music teacher and had taught in a church Sunday school.

He had also helped set up organised girls football in the town.

But there was a secret depraved side to Warren who lived in Himley Green, Linslade, Leighton Buzzard.

He targeted vulnerable children he could manipulate and groom for his sordid activities.

Luton Crown Court heard he would make threats to the youngsters.

During a 13 day trial the court heard that he even secretly filmed a teenage girl as she visited a bathroom.

His offences were finally uncovered last November when one of his victims revealed what had been going on.

Today (Friday, July 4) Warren, now of Highfield Road, Winslow, in Buckinghamshire, appeared for sentence back at Luton.

In May of this year he had been convicted by a jury of intent to commit a sexual offence, five offences of assault on a child under 13 by penetration, two offences of rape, sexual assault of a child under 13, voyeurism and taking indecent photographs of a child.

The charges represented three children and a fourth he had secretly filmed while she visited a bathroom.

Following his arrest police discovered he had been trawling the internet to download images of child sex abuse.

Today passing sentence on Warren, Judge David Farrell QC told him: “You are a very dangerous and predatory paedophile.”

During his trial Warren had claimed the charges against him were lies and today the judge was told he is still in denial and had shown no remorse for his victims.

“You sought to blame others, making up detailed and convoluted defences in an attempt to evade justice”

The judge said it was clear Warren posed a considerable risk to children and was a danger.

He sentenced him to an extended 24 year jail sentence explaining that the custody element of the sentence was 20 years and the period he will spend on licence will be four years.

It means that he can expect to serve two thirds of the jail sentence behind bars before his release after 13 years and eight months.

But he will then remain on licence for a further 10 years and four months.

In addition he was ordered to pay the prosecution costs of £4,200 and he was also made the subject of a sexual offence prevention order.

His name will also go on the sex offenders register.

Men wanted over sex offences could be in Coventry

defendant

Two missing men linked to serious sex offences could be in Coventry, according to police.

Officers searching for Mohammed Abdul Kadir and Osman Hussain Abdurahman are asking the public to look for the pair, who have both evaded capture for some time.

Kadir, believed to be aged between 30 and 40, is wanted by Thames Valley Police for the rape of two girls under the age of 13.

He has family links to Coventry and could be in the city.

The offences took place in Maidenhead, Berkshire, over the last 18 months.

Police say Kadir was employed by the children’s family to provide private religious tuition.

He is in the country illegally having arrived from Bangladesh in 2011.

As well as Coventry he also has links to Yorkshire, Loughborough and London.

Det Insp Andy Howard, from Thames Valley Police, said: “The offences we would like to speak to Kadir in connection with are reported to have happened between late 2012 and May this year.

“I would urge Kadir to come forward and speak with us to help us with our enquiries. I would also like to hear from anyone who knows of his whereabouts and can help us to locate him.”

The other missing man, Osman Hussain Abdurahman, was convicted of a sex offence against a 14-year-old girl in Sheffield in 2008.

The Iraqi hasn’t been seen since 2009 though.

miss2

His last suspected location was Coventry and searches were launched for him in 2010 but he wasn’t found.

Since his release from prison Abdurahman has failed to register with the authorities, breaching his licence. The 34-year-old, who has now been missing for five years, also has links to Sheffield.

He is described as around 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build.

The pair are among a handful of convicts or suspected offenders police are keen to track down.

They include a convicted killer, a man suspected of stabbing a woman in a Paradise car park, and a suspected robber.

If you know where Kadir is call Thames Valley Police on 101. If you spot Abdurahman call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

Alternatively if you don’t want to speak directly to police call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Leeds businessman groomed 12-yr-old girl and sexually abused her over a four-month period is jailed

sadiq

A BUSINESSMAN who groomed a 12-year-old girl and sexually abused her over a four-month period has been jailed.

Mohammed Sadiq, 39, was given an eight-year sentence after being found guilty of five offences against the youngster.

Leeds Crown Court heard Sadiq was caught after he wrote a series of letters to the girl which were discovered by her mother.

In the letters Sadiq, of Main Street, East Ardsley, told the girl how he wanted to spend time “cuddling and kissing” her. He also told her she was “sexy” and described how his wife was becoming suspicious. The court heard Sadiq also wrote that she should destroy the letters.

Katherine Silverton, prosecuting, said the girl deliberately left the notes in a place where she knew her mother would find them.

After committing the sex assaults upon her, Sadiq told the girl not to say anything or he would burn her home down.

Jailing the father-of-two, Recorder Robin Mairs described how Sadiq had deliberately used the language of a schoolgirl and how the offending may have been much worse had the letters not been discovered.

He said: “You are a man of the world. You are experienced. You are a professional businessman. You have tailored it to fit in with a 12 or 13-year-old girl.

“These letters represent regular, considered, persistent grooming of a child.” Recorder Mairs added: “What is evident is that there is not a shred of contrition or remorse.”

Sadiq was found guilty of two offences of sexual assault on a child, one of attempted sexual assault of a child, sexual activity with a child and inciting sexual activity with a child.

Zia Chaudry, mitigating, said hie client continued to deny the offences. Sadiq was told he must serve a five-year prison sentence followed by an extended licence period of three years.

Man jailed for three years for child sex offences against 14-year-old girl

pierluigi_nardella

A MAN who sexually groomed a 14-year-old girl and arranged to meet her in Hazlemere has been jailed for three years.

Pierluigi Nardella, 23, of Mount Drive, Wembley, pleaded guilty to a seven sexual offences at Aylesbury Crown Court on May 15.

Police said today he was sentenced to three years in prison on June 17.

The court heard between September 2012 and January 2013, Nardella groomed and met a 14-year-old girl on a chat website. He then arranged to meet her in Hazlemere and engaged in sexual intercourse.

He also sent an indecent photo of himself to another 14-year-old girl.

Investigating officer Sgt David Whiteaker said: “This conviction marks the end of a lengthy investigation by High Wycombe Force CID, during which Nardella maintained his innocence until the end.

“However, as a result of detailed examinations of Nardella’s computers, further vital evidence was obtained that led to him eventually pleading guilty to seven serious offences against two female children.

“The sentence imposed upon Nardella reflects the severity of his offending and sends a clear message to anyone targeting children in this way that Thames Valley Police treat these offences extremely seriously and that imprisonment is a likely consequence of conviction.”

He was convicted of Causing / inciting a female child aged under 16 to engage in sexual activity; Meeting a female child under 16 following sexual grooming; Sexual activity with a female child under 16; Sexual activity with a female child under 16; Offender 18 or over causing a child aged 13 to 15 to watch / look at an image of sexual activity; Causing / inciting a female child aged under 16 to engage in sexual activity and Arrange / facilitate the commission of a child sex offence.

Nardella was sentenced to 12 months each for counts one and two, 36 months each for counts three and four, and ten months each for counts five, six and seven. All the sentences will run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120.

Selby man jailed for sex crimes

mars

Selby man has been jailed for having sex with a 13-year-old girl at his family home.

Tina Dempster, prosecuting, said the girl spent a weekend in the Selby area and during that time was alone with John Thomas Stephen Marshall at his home in Abbots Road.

After she returned to her home, her parents became worried about her behaviour.

She kept following her mother around and did not want to get undressed to have a shower. She then claimed Marshall, 22, had raped her.

Marshall initially denied any sexual contact with the girl, but after forensic scientists produced DNA evidence contradicting his story, he said the girl had stripped to her underwear and danced before him when they were alone at his home.

They had then had sex, to which she had consented. He denied using any force or violence towards her.

The prosecution dropped allegations of rape against Marshall after he pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child. Marshall, who also admitted a separate charge of handling stolen copper, was jailed for two years and one month.

He was put on the sex offenders’ register for ten years and barred from having any contact with the girl indefinitely under a sexual offences prevention order.

Judge Christopher Batty said his initial impression of Marshall after reading a probation report on him was that he was a man who lacked respect for anyone, particularly the police or people in a position of authority, but there could be a different side to him.

Dr Dempster said police caught Marshall with his brother and another man as they were wheeling a barrow with copper worth £600 to £700.

It had been stolen from a paper mill which was being demolished.

Taryn Turner said Marshall was “naïve and vulnerable” and he went along with what other people in his company did.

Ex-Highbridge Lib Dem councillor admits seven child sex offences

Joe Leach

A FORMER Highbridge Lib Dem councillor has admitted a number of sex offences against two boys.

Disgraced Joe Leach, 26, of Clyce Road, pleaded guilty to seven counts of taking an indecent image of a child between April 2011 and August 2012.

Leach, who stepped down as a town councillor in December 2012, faced at total of 12 charges but denied one count of sexual assault and four other counts of taking indecent photographs of a child when he appeared at Taunton Crown Court today (July 4).

Dressed in a dark suit, white shirt and gold tie, Leach spoke only to confirm his name and enter pleas and was warned he faces jail.

Speaking after the hearing, Leach said that what he did was a “stupid mistake” and insisted: “It won’t happen again, but I will just have to pay for what I’ve done in the short term.”

The offences Leach admitted relate to two separate boys, while he denied all charges relating to an alleged third victim, also a boy.

Prosecutors now have a week to decide whether to accept Leach’s pleas or to pursue a trial on the five denied counts.

Judge David Ticehurst said: “In any event, I am going to order that a pre-sentence report should be prepared in relation to these matters you have pleaded guilty to. You must co-operate fully with the probation officer.

“Let me make it clear to you that all options are open to the judge that deals with you, including an immediate prison sentence.

“No promises are being held open to you by adjourning it for such a report.”

Leach was bailed until July 31 and was made to sign the sex offenders’ register before leaving court.

Three years probation for serial sex offender who had child abuse images on DVD

A 42-year old man who copied indecent images of children on to blank DVDs was yesterday placed on three years probation and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.

Peter Gibson (42), of no fixed abode, admitted six counts of possessing pornographic images of child at Belfast Crown Court.

Police called at his home on April 29, 2013 as part of an ongoing assessment of his management and not as a result of any suspicious activity.

Gibson, who at the time was the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), made a comment which roused suspicions.

Officers searched his home and a number of items, including two DVDs which contained indecent images of children, were seized.

The court heard Gibson had recorded the images onto blank DVDs, which contained 13 images and a video.

He has been in jail since his arrest and has spent 14 months in custody.

Judge Paul Ramsey placed Gibson on probation for three years. Gibson was also made the subject of another five-year SOPO, which includes banning him from coming into contact with children.

Man had indecent images of children

A child abuse images pervert from a leafy north Down village who faces jail after finally admitting a string of offences.

William Martin Logan (60) of Meadow Grove, Crawfordsburn, sensationally changed his previous not guilty plea, at Downpatrick Crown Court, last Friday.

Just days earlier, Logan had been arraigned in the same court on 45 charges of making indecent images of children by downloading them from the internet.

He also faced three counts of possessing illegal images of children.

Logan had denied all 48 counts and was released on bail to await his trial.

However, he changed his mind and was re-arraigned and admitted all 48 charges.

Judge Peter Gibson again released Logan on bail, after ordering him to sign the Sex Offenders Register.

The maximum sentence for child abuse images offences after January 2001 was set at 10 years in jail.

For offences prior to the change in the law, the maximum sentence was three years.

Logan’s 48 offences span a period of 16 months, between December 2002 and April 2004.

Family devastated as sex attacker escapes prison

01343135

THE father of a girl with learning difficulties who was sexually abused has spoken of his family’s devastation as the perpetrator escaped jail.

The Burton dad, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, was at Stafford Crown Court to see Christopher Adams, 71, of Hurst Drive, Stretton, walk away from court after a judge decided not to impose a custodial sentence, instead handing Adams a three-year community order and making him sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

At a previous court hearing, Adams admitted three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a mentally disordered female.

The victim’s father said the family was disappointed with the outcome.

He said: “At the plea hearing the judge told him to expect a substantial custodial sentence, so we as a family are really disappointed.

“We feel let down. We’ve suffered for the last 19 months and it’s torn us apart.

“I’m relieved it’s done now and I’m relieved he got convicted, but there’s no relief at the sentence.”

The offences spanned two years, from December 2010 to December 2012, starting when the girl was 16.

Her father said Adams took advantage of his daughter’s learning difficulties.

“He completely took advantage of her vulnerability, telling her she would be taken away if she told anyone,”

“If it was up to me he would be in prison for the rest of his life – he is a danger.

“I’ve seen stories like this in the news before, but when it’s your own family there’s nothing anyone can say or do to make you feel better. It has been horrendous.

“We’re scarred for life but we’ll just pull together as a family now.”

Dickie James, chief executive of Staffordshire Women’s Aid, was also appalled.

She said: “A three-year community order is simply not good enough for someone that has abused their power in this way with someone so vulnerable. It’s absolutely disgraceful.

“It’s hard for people to come forward to talk about sexual abuse.

“We have got to get a robust message out there that this will not be tolerated, but this does not convey that message.

Housewife who lured teenage boys to her house for ‘vodka, weed and me’ is jailed for four and a half years

p

A housewife who groomed under-age boys for sex by plying them with alcohol and letting them smoke cannabis at her house was sent to prison today.

Chantelle Goatley, 36, who sent one boy a Facebook message saying: ‘Vodka, weed, me.  What more could you ask for?’ was jailed for four-and-a-half-years after being convicted of sex and drugs offences at Reading Crown Court today.

Goatley, from Newbury, Berkshire, who had claimed that the allegations made by the two boys, aged 14 and 15 at the time, were lies, was convicted of three of the five counts she faced.

The jury at Reading Crown Court heard that Goatley exchanged messages with one boy on Facebook, including one which said: ‘You’ve got 18 bottles of Stella and loads of weed to have. xx.’

Minutes later she added: ‘Vodka, weed, me. What more could you ask for?’

She had been accused of having sex with one boy and performing a sex act on him and on another boy, on separate occasions.

However, jurors acquitted her on the two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

They found her guilty of allowing her premises to be used for smoking cannabis, of committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity between January and April last year.

Prosecutor Matthew Walsh said: ‘They were still children and she knew their ages.

‘The address she was living at became a popular place for these boys to spend their time, particularly at weekends.

‘There was alcohol ready for them to drink, which she bought. There was cannabis there for them to smoke.

‘But there was more to it. This wasn’t just provision of alcohol and cannabis.

‘There was a motive behind it. It was grooming, grooming these young boys… because when they were drunk or, to use the common expression, stoned, struggling to function normally, she would be in a position to take advantage.

‘The prosecution case is that is what she did. She took advantage.’

Goatley was sentenced by Judge Johannah Cutts QC to four years for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, 18 months to run concurrently for committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence, and six months to run consecutively for allowing cannabis to be smoked in her home.

She will also have to sign on to the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Man jailed after sex offences

A CHEPSTOW man has been jailed for three years for a series of sex offences on two girls.

Richard James, 40, of Buttington Road, Sedbury, was found guilty of seven charges of indecent assault and one of indecency with a child. He denied the charges. The jury at Cardiff Crown Court heard that James abused two girls in Newport.

James’ counsel Andrew Taylor said: “He is fully aware of the kind of sentence to be passed.

“His life in many ways is destroyed. He didn’t target any of the victims and he is willing to undergo any treatment.”

Judge Neil Bidder said James, who had no previous convictions, abused the children “secretly and surreptitiously”.

He added: “They didn’t tell any one because you told one it was her fault and you told the other you’d go to prison if she disclosed what happened.

“A weight of guilt was placed by you on their shoulders.”

The judge, who described James as “intelligent and cunning”, ordered him to register as a sex offender for life and banned him from working with children for life.

He also directed that the licence period of the sentence last six years.

Abuser caught out by tattoo after sexual attacks on 3 yr old boy found on mobile phone

A sex attacker was caught after a mother discovered videos of the sexual abuse of a three-year-old boy on a mobile phone, a court heard.

The woman had earlier borrowed a handset belonging to Graeme Docherty in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

Docherty had previously filmed himself abusing the child while apparently looking after him at a house in Kilmarnock.

At the High Court in Glasgow, a judge was told that the 32-year-old had no memory of what happened.

But Docherty pled guilty to raping the boy as well as a child abuse charge.

The court heard that, in March last year, the woman was looking for a new mobile phone and Docherty told her he had an old one that she could have.

She later checked the phone and found a two-minute clip of a boy being sexually assaulted.

The woman recognised the man in the footage as having the same build as Docherty.

She confronted Docherty, but he told her: “No, no – that’s not right” and pleaded with her not to get the police involved.

However, she ignored his pleas and when officers watched the clip, Docherty was further identified by his dragon-style tattoo.

Derrick Nelson, defending, told the court that Docherty had “no recollection” of the abuse, but “in light of the evidence” accepted that he was guilty.

Mr Nelson added: “He cannot begin to understand why he was involved in these activities. He is absolutely appalled.”

Docherty was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on August 11 at the High Court in Edinburgh.

He was also placed on the sex offenders register.

Thornaby primary school teaching assistant was part of child abuse images network

A primary school teaching assistant was part of a paedophile network exchanging child abuse images, a court was told today.

Joseph Duffy, 19, from Thornaby, was working as a volunteer teaching assistant on a one-to-one basis with nine to 10-year-olds helping them to read.

He was arrested after US authorities tipped-off CEOP, the British police’s Child Exploitation On-line Protection unit, that he was using an internet site which allows child abuse images watchers to contact others.

Prosecutor Christopher Rose told Teesside Crown Court that Duffy later admitted to Cleveland Police officers that he had been using the site and also Skype for two years to share and exchange videos.

The school was not named in court but it was referred to as “a local primary school”.

Mr Rose told the judge: “He knew that he had a sexual attraction to children, and he accepted that he posed a risk to children.”

Duffy said that the only way to get new images was to exchange them.

He said that there were periods of intense distribution of indecent images of children once a week up to the serious category of Level 4 and beyond.

Police executed search warrants at the homes of his parents who lived separately on September 13 last year.

They arrested him and seized a laptop, iPhone and memory sticks.

They had to obtain a court order from a judge to get him to disclose the passwords for the iPhone.

The laptop had files which were indicative of child porn, and he had been regularly cleaning images on the hardware. There was also evidence from the Skype account of file sharing of child porn.

Police technical experts recovered images of young boys from six memory sticks, and there was further evidence on the iPhone.

He admitted that he had also used his father’s laptop for his activities.

Duffy said that he began with pornography when he was 13, and as he got older he realised that he was sexually attracted to boys aged 11 to 19.

Mr Rose added: “He had clearly built up a network of people with whom he was sharing these videos over a lengthy period.”

Duffy, who had no previous convictions and was a first-year undergraduate studying Maths at Greenwich University, avoided jail after his barrister said he could be helped by the Internet Sex Offenders treatment programme.

Andrew White said that an immediate prison sentence would be disastrous for Duffy who would be locked up with other sex offenders.

Mr White said that Duffy once had ambitions to become a teacher, adding: “He clearly needs help.

“He recognises that there is a problem and he is 100% committed to receiving help”.

Judge Peter Bowers told Duffy: “I accept that you have shown as much remorse as you possibly can and have expressed as much insight as one can expect at this stage.”

Duffy, of Kimble Drive, Thornaby, was given an 18 months jail sentence suspended for two years with supervision and the Sex Offender’s treatment programme, ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years, and also given a Sexual Offence’s Prevention Order limiting his use of the Internet.

He pleaded guilty to distributing indecent images of children on July 23 last year, and two charges of possession for show on September 13 last year.

Nelson pervert jailed for assaults on girl

A NELSON pervert who repeatedly sexually assaulted a young girl has been locked up for three years.

John Redman, 65, had abused the child some years ago and left her psychologically damaged. He was recently convicted by a Burnley Crown Court jury after a two-week trial, but still protests his innocence.

Ex-bakery worker Redman had been found guilty of two charges of indecent assault, one of them a specimen count.

He had been cleared of three allegations of rape and two allegations of gross indecency with a child, involving the same complainant.

He denied all the charges against him and said the attacks didn’t happen.

The sentencing hearing was told a probation officer had assessed the defendant as posing a medium risk of re-conviction, but Judge Simon Newell said he disagreed and added: “It would seem to me there would be a low risk.”

Redman, who the judge said he was treating as a man of good character, was ordered to sign the sexual offences register indefinitely.

The defendant, of Roberts Street, was handed a 10-year sexual offences prevention order, banning him from having any unsupervised contact with any female child under 16.

Redman, who has also had other jobs, did not work for the bakery firm at the time of the offences.

Prosecutor Mark Savill told the court Redman had put his hand down the girl’s pants. His actions made her scared and upset.
Tim Storrie, defending, said the verdicts were a ‘personal catastrophe’ for Redman.

The hearing was told the victim has suffered psychological problems since the offences. Judge Simon Newell said experts would probably never be able to say whether the difficulties she had were as a direct result of what happened to her or whether there were other contributing factors.

The judge said the offences were serious and damage had been caused.

Takeaway driver is jailed for sex attack on 12-year-old girl he then abandoned in remote country lane

Iqbal

A takeaway delivery driver has been jailed for a sex attack on a 12-year-old girl.

Khawaja Iqbal, 41, lured the youngster into his car with alcohol and cigarettes before driving her to a secluded country lane and sexually assaulting her.

He then drove off leaving her in the road.

Iqbal, of Whinstone Way, ChaddertonOldham, admitted the assault at an earlier hearing and was today sentenced to five years in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Court.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register. His conviction followed a tireless investigation into the assault by Greater Manchester Police.

Just before midnight on August 25 last year, Iqbal, who was working for a takeaway in Hollingworth, Tameside, spotted the girl walking alone in the Mottram area.

The girl got into his car and he drove to a garage where the vehicle – but not the registration number – was caught on CCTV.

The assault was reported by the girl and DNA evidence recovered, but an offender could not be identified.

GMP managed to identify the car as a Nissan Micra and narrowed it down to 192 vehicles in the area.

The owners were located and interviewed and Iqbal was forensically linked to the crime.During his police interview, he denied the assault claiming the victim had asked for a lift , the cigarettes and alcohol – and had planted the DNA ‘maliciously.’

Det Sgt Dan Appleby, from the ‘Phoenix’ child sexual exploitation unit at Tameside, said: “Iqbal preyed on a lone, young and vulnerable girl, who he subjected to a sexual assault before leaving her stranded in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.

Child sexual exploitation is a heinous crime and identifying and bringing to justice Iqbal and those of his ilk is a priority for the force.

As reflected in this case, we will do whatever it takes to track down those that offend against vulnerable children.“Iqbal in particular is an vile individual who sought to put the blame on the victim, going so far as to suggest he had been framed by her.“It was only in the face of such compelling evidence that he finally accepted his guilt and today justice has prevailed.”

Yoker man found with vile child abuse images on his computer

A YOKER man who was found with a haul of sick images of kids after police searched his home has appeared in court.

Last week Peter Miller, 59, appeared in the dock at Dumbarton Sheriff Court and admitted to having indecent images of children in his possession between January 2008 and October 2013.

Prosecutor Anthony McGeehan said he was caught after police turned up at his door on October 4, 2013.

A search of his home was carried out and computer equipment, including a laptop and hard drives, seized.

Miller was detained after an initial examination of the equipment identified evidence of indecent images of children.

He was interviewed by officers at the station but remained silent and was later cautioned and charged.

A full examination of the items seized by police, which included Miller’s laptop, was then carried out and six indecent still images of children were found along with six indecent movies of children ranging between levels one and four.

Images classified at level five are considered the worst. The court heard one of the movies found depicted a young girl aged between 10 and 14-years-old.

There was also evidence that Miller had obtained the indecent images through a file sharing application.

It was also heard that Miller’s wife had told police that he was the only one with access to the computer equipment which had indecent images on it and told them that she had her own laptop.

Sheriff Simon Fraser deferred sentence until August for reports and placed Miller on the sex offender’s register.

A pervert physiotherapist kept films and pictures of him and a woman engaging in sex acts with animals and also downloaded hundreds of child abuse images, a court heard.

The bestiality clips and photos, involving a labrador retriever and horses, dated back several years when such pornography was not illegal.

They were discovered after police raided Anthony Donoghue’s home at Sturmer Court in Kings Hill - along with more than 1,400 child sex abuse images.

Jailing the 54-year-old father for eight months, a judge branded the animal films as “really quite remarkably nasty”.

Judge Charles Macdonald QC added: “They were not criminal when made in 2004 but they are extraordinarily degrading and they were kept for no intelligible reason.”

Donoghue, now of Crawley, West Sussex, admitted six charges of possessing indecent photos of children, two of making them, one of distributing and one of possessing extreme pornography.

Maidstone Crown Court heard how using the name Peter Adams, he in March last year was in contact with a man on a gay website and arranged to meet him and “some other pervy mates”.

Bridget Todd, prosecuting, said Donoghue sent the other man pictures of adults engaging in sex or “extreme activity”. He also sent one of a child aged five or six who he claimed he knew.

“He felt uncomfortable about what he had been sent and called the police,” said Miss Todd.

Officers went to Donoghue’s home on March 23 last year and arrested him. Computers, a camcorder and video tapes were seized. There were 66 extreme images.

Jan Hayne, defending, said Donoghue had been frank about his offending and sought treatment.

“What was not at the root of his offending was high risk sexual behaviour,” she said. “He would not behave in that manner again. He is essentially a good man.”

Miss Hayne said the majority of the images had been deleted and there were only 64 “live” pictures.

Submitting a suspended sentence could be imposed, she added: “He is an intelligent man. He appears to have lost everything.”

Judge Macdonald said sex acts with horses in a field at night took place as a precursor to sex with his female partner.

“You have lost your job,” he told Donoghue. “There is nothing which will lead me to suspend the sentence.”

Donoghue’s name will appear on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Ex-Caithness man convicted of two rapes

A FORMER Caithness man has been found guilty of raping and assaulting two women while living in Wick during the early 1990s.

Duncan Begg (43) denied dozens of alleged offences against women and children, including three rapes and carrying out lewd acts on three children during a 26 year period.

Begg, from Skye, denied the offences at the High Court in Aberdeen and claimed that all sexual contact he had with the women was consensual.

But a jury today (Monday) took just under two hours to find him guilty of eight offences relating to two of the women.

One of his victims was subjected to a horrific indecent assault when she was pregnant in 1991.

Begg banged her head on bars, put his hand inside her body and threatened to remove her unborn child.

He attacked the woman on another occasion, when she was not pregnant, by repeatedly punching her on the face and burning her breast with a cigarette.

He poured a bottle of whisky over her face and raped her.

Begg attacked another woman in 1990 by seizing her by the hair and dragging her into a kitchen. Her clothes were removed and she was forced outside naked where he raped her.

Judge Morris deferred sentence for background reports until August 1 at the High Court in Glasgow.
