Man jailed for child abuse images offences
A Margate man caught watching and possessing child abuse images has been jailed for 16 months.
Rafael Ahmed, 25, of Addiscombe Gardens, was arrested after detectives from the Kent Police child exploitation investigation team received intelligence that indecent material was being downloaded at his address.
Those living at the house denied any knowledge, but the following day Ahmed called the investigating officer saying he would like to talk about the images.
Seized computer equipment uncovered 77 indecent images, 287 videos and a further 189 images and videos that were no longer accessible to the user, but had been previously.
Ahmed was released on bail while officers continued to investigate, but he was re-arrested after viewing further images, despite having bail conditions not to do so.
An additional computer was seized which another 54 videos on it.
Ahmed was charged with making and possessing indecent images of children and possession with intent to share indecent images of children.
He pleaded guilty to the offences and was jailed for 16 months at Canterbury Crown Court.
Detective Constable Matthew Avery from the child exploitation investigation team said: “Ahmed said that he at first believed that the children being abused in these videos were enjoying it.
“This shows an appalling lack of understanding around the abuse of innocent children and the traumatic way it affects their lives.
“We don’t wait for these cases to fall into our laps; we go out and proactively investigate and search for people who are looking at these images.
“Our message for anyone who is viewing indecent images of children is that they should stop now and seek help, or expect a prison sentence when we find them.”
