Man, 58, jailed for looking at indecent pictures of children
A former Sunningdale college employee who looked at 559 indecent pictures of children on his personal computer has been jailed.
Pervert Stephen Shaljean-Tilley, of Furzebank, Sunninghill, was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison at Reading Crown Court, sitting at Reading Magistrates’ Court, yesterday.
The court heard how the married 58-year-old had held a ‘responsible position’ at the National School of Government that closed this year.
Shaljean-Tilley said he had spent two years looking at the images on his computer, which he said he looked at as his sex life had broken down and he was depressed.
The court heard how the photographs were of children from three years old to their mid-teens and the majority of them were pre-puberty pictures.
After his offences were revealed, Shaljean-Tilley was also kicked out of his bowls club by club officials.
He was charged on July 24 last year and pleaded guilty to five counts of making indecent photographs of children at Slough Magistrates’ Court on August 13.
They included making one image at level five category, 81 at level four, 50 at level three, eight at level two, and 419 at level one, all in Ascot on May 24 last year.
Level five photographs are the most indecent.
Shaljean-Tilley has also been placed on the sex offenders register for five years, banned from working with children and given a five-year sexual prevention order.
In sentencing, Judge Recorder Prior gave him credit for his early guilty plea, but said a custodial sentence was ‘inevitable’ as the offences were high in seriousness.
The court also heard how his neighbours had put a sign up on the front door of his Sunninghill home after hearing of his offences.
Judge Prior said this showed there was a ‘very major public concern’ among people in the country to protect young children.
