Pensioner jailed for historic sex offences
A pensioner who sexually abused four girls has been sent to prison for six years and three months after being found guilty of 22 sex offence charges.
Michael McCoy, of Starks Lane, North Willingham, was found guilty of historic sex offences, dating back more than 50 years, at Grimsby Crown Court last week.
The 74-year-old, known as Mike, had pleaded not guilty to 23 charges, but was found guilty of 22 charges by the jury. He was cleared of the other offence.
McCoy was accused of two counts of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14.
Both offences happened in the Cleethorpes area between July 1958 and July 1960.
He was also accused of seven counts of gross indecency with a girl under the age of 14.
These offences happened between July 1968 and August 1975.
In total he was charged with 15 offences of indecent assault and eight of indecency with a child.
The pensioner, who was deputy chairman and treasurer of Market Rasen Gardening Club, was originally arrested last year and had since been remanded on bail before his two week trial at Grimsby Crown Court.
As well as his prison sentence, McCoy will also be on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life
