Man Who Sent Youngster Obscene Messages Avoids Jail
An Irvine man who sent depraved Facebook messages to a 12-year-old girl has avoided a jail sentence.
Steven Mays, 37, asked the youngster if she knew the meaning of a lewd act then begged her to perform it on him.
She blocked Mays then broke down and sobbed to her mother: “I’ve got something to tell you. It’s on my laptop.”
Her mum logged on with a friend pretending to be her daughter and within minutes Mays typed a depraved comment.
Mays denied the offence between August and October 2012 but was found guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court. Sentence had been deferred.
He was also convicted of domestic harassment against another woman and persistently sending her sexual text messages, while on bail, in Stewarton between April and November last year.
Mays was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for three years, given supervision for the same period and ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work.

Bourtreehill man on Sex Offenders Register for Facebook messages
AN IRVINE man has been put on the Sex Offenders Register for sending obscene messages on Facebook.
Steven Mays, of Whitewisp Court, Bourtreehill, repeatedly sent messages to a femle between April and November, 2013. The unwanted messages, which contained content of a sexual nature, were sent to the same victim in Stewarton.
Mays, 37, denied a charge of sending messages for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to the female.
Last week, he stood trial at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and was found guilty. Sentencing was deferred till August for the preparation of reports His name was added to the Sex Offenders Register in the meantime.
