Sex attacker tried to rape seven-year-old girl
A SEX attacker who tried to rape a seven-year-old girl has been jailed for more than 10 years.
Stephen Carr, who has been branded a danger by police, attacked the youngster on Wearside more than a decade ago.
At Newcastle Crown Court Judge John Milford QC jailed the 43-year-old, of Cunningham Place, Gilesgate, Durham, for 10 years and nine months while police today branded Carr a “dangerous individual”.
Carr had admitted attempted rape and indecency charges, which meant his victim did not have to relive her horrifying ordeal from the witness box.
In a statement to police the victim described in graphic detail what Carr had done to her during the horrific attempted rape ordeal.
Prosecuting, Robin Patton said: “She asked him to stop. He was persistent.”
Northumbria Police Detective Constable David Garrity said:”I’d urge any victim of a sexual assault or rape – no matter how historic – to report it to the police. We will investigate all reports and do everything we can to bring sexual offenders to justice.
“Carr is a dangerous individual and this sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes he committed.
“It took great courage for the victim to come forward and I hope this sentence givens her some closure following what has been an extremely difficult time.”
