Pervert who abused schoolboy jailed
A pervert who groomed a teenage boy before sexually assaulting him has been jailed.
Raymond Yates, 58, admitted the historic offences against the youngster when the boy was aged between 11 and 13 years old.
Preston Crown Court heard Yates, of Chorley Old Road, Chorley, befriended the boy’s mum before abusing him sexually.
Jeremy Grout-Smith, prosecuting, told the court Yates would engineer situations where he could be alone with the boy.
He said the offences were a gross breach of trust of the boy’s mother and had involved an element of grooming.
In the years between the abuse and the boy – who is now an adult – has suffered depression.
He has also suffered with low self-esteem which has affected his school and work life.
Yates was handed a four month immediate prison sentence and was ordered to sign on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
He was also handed an indefinite sex offenders’ prevention order (SOPO).
He will be subject to the vetting and barring procedures to prevent him from working with children and vulnerable adults after he is released from prison.
