Londoner gets three-year sentence in USA for having sex with a minor
“The scariest day of my life is the Friday I found out that she wasn’t where I thought she was.” Those were the words of the victim’s father as he spoke about discovering a 23-year-old Londoner had his only daughter in a motel room in early December.
The defendant, Mohammed Rahman, was sentenced Wednesday in a Buchanan County courtroom for having sex with a minor.
Since the summer of 2012, Mr. Rahman had been exchanging e-mails and naked photos with the then-14-year-old victim. Her parents were involved, according to the prosecution, and had told Mr. Rahman to stay away.
Last December, Mr. Rahman admitted he purchased a ticket and flew from England to meet with the girl.
Police responded to the Super 8 Motel at U.S. Highway 169 and Interstate 29 to find the two in a room. Prosecutors say the two had had sex at the motel and at the girl’s home.
Judge Patrick Robb told Mr. Rahman that he had made a choice to commit a criminal act and he had manipulated the young girl and her family. In February, Mr. Rahman pleaded guilty to the felony charge of second-degree statutory rape.
The maximum sentence for the crime is seven years, and he will serve three in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Mr. Rahman will be deported back to the U.K. after his time is served.
