Man jailed for grabbing girl’s bottom after propositioning her for sex

lough

A MAN’S inappropriate behaviour with a schoolgirl ended in him propositioning her before grabbing her bum, a court was told.

Darren Richard Lough offered to teach the shy 15-year-old how to groom a horse, but it resulted in him displaying grooming-type behaviour himself – on the girl.

Durham Crown Court heard her mother felt Lough did not appear to know the “boundaries” when an adult male interacts with younger females, except if other adults were present, when he would, “rein in his behaviour.”

The court heard the offending incident happened in November, 2013, when he asked the girl to have sex with him in the stables, before squeezing her buttock with some force.

Shaun Dodds, prosecuting, said it deeply upset the girl at the time and went on to have a longer term effect, in particular setting her back in her school work.

Mr Dodds said, despite Lough’s claim it was a one-off act, “there was a degree of grooming this girl through a connection with horses.”

Lough, now 30, of Gill Street, Consett, admitted sexually touching a child, but only changed his plea shortly before a scheduled trial following a previous denial.

The court heard that in a separate case he also admitted three breaches of a non-molestation order, for persistently trying to contact a former partner despite of a court order.

In the latter two cases he was in breach of bail granted following the previous offences.

Mr Dodds said the victim lived in fear he may be watching her, resulting in her moving home.

Imposing a prison sentence totalling two years and five months, Judge Simon Hickey also made Lough subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, forbidding unsupervised contact with females under-16, and registration as a sex offender, for ten years.

Man sent to jail for sex with girl, 14

A “PREDATOR” who seduced a 14-year-old and got her pregnant was jailed for seven years.

Zachary Mason’s abuse of the Birmingham teenager eventually came to light when it was discovered she had a sexually transmitted infection and was carrying his child.

Judge Phillip Parker QC told Mason, who had a previous conviction for abusing three young children: “I have to conclude to some extent that you are a predatory man.

“You would have no fear about doing the same thing again, save for the risk of being caught.”

The judge also said that the offences were committed out of “pure sexual greed” and that he was only “nailed to the mast” when a DNA test proved he was the father of the baby.

Reports indicated Mason was “emotionally manipulative” and a statement from the victim suggested she had been deeply disturbed by what had happened to her.

Mason, 35, of Glaston Street, Aston, had previously admitted four charges of sexual activity with a child.

Zaheer Afzal, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, said Mason’s initial sexual contact with the girl, who he had plied with gifts, had begun with fondling but this had progressed to repeated full sex over a number of months.

Matters came to light when, during a routine visit to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, it was discovered that Mason’s victim was pregnant and also had a sexually transmitted disease.

To begin with, the girl was reluctant to reveal the identity of the father, but eventually confided to a friend.

Mr Afzal said the teenager subsequently had an abortion.

Mason served a nine-month prison sentence 13 years ago after being convicted of indecent assault, he added.

Platt also pleaded guilty to possessing 31 moving and still extreme pornographic images which realistically and explicitly portrayed people performing an act of sexual intercourse with live animals.

Pervert caught after arranging to meet ‘schoolboy’ at Sunderland seafront via Grindr

A pervert who turned up to a seafront meeting with a 14-year-old boy was confronted by an online child protection team

Kevin Golden believed he had been sending sexually explicit messages to an underage lad, who was forty years younger than him, over adult gay dating site Grindr.

But Newcastle Crown Court heard the 54-year-old had been duped by online volunteer group Guardians of the North, who trawl the internet searching for sexual offending activity.

During a series of shocking conversations over a two week period, Golden embarked on graphic chats and asked if the boy would engage in various sex acts.

He asked the youth for naked photographs and discussed the boy engaging in activity with a lad his own age, boasting he could “get him one”.

When Golden arrived to meet the boy at the seafront in Sunderland, two member of Guardians of the North team were waiting.

Prosecutor Anne Richardson told the court: “The police arrived and arrested the defendant.

“He voluntarily handed over his mobile phone, saying ‘it was a silly thing to do’ and ‘I know I have done wrong’.

“He later repeated he had done wrong.”

Golden, of Hertburn Gardens Concord, Washington, dismissed his claim of being able to get another boy involved as “fantasy” when he was questioned.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming.

Judge Robert Spragg sentenced Golden, who has spent two months behind bars on remand and appeared at the hearing via video link to HMP Durham, to a community order for three years, with programme requirements.

Golden must abide by a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years and sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.

The judge told him: “You have spent two months in custody, you are now well aware of what that entails and I have no doubt it has been an unpleasant experience for you.

“The public are likely to be better protected in the long term by you receiving treatment.”

The court heard Golden is embarrassed and ashamed by his actions and worried about the impact his offending will have on his employment and family.

Brave girl, 3, gives evidence in court to help jail the paedophile

thomas

A brave girl aged just three years old has become one of the youngest in the country to ever give evidence at a trial where she helped jail the man who sexually abused her.

Thomas Noone was sentenced to three years in prison at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday for sexually assaulting the little girl last year.

The youngster, who can not be named for legal reasons, was brought into the court and cross examined via a live video link from a separate room during the trial answering questions from prosecution and defence barristers.

She is one of the youngest children to ever be cross examined in crown court.

Prosecuting, Ricky Holland, said her parents found out about the abuse when the child’s mother overheard her daughter describing what happened to another child, and immediately asked her to explain fully.

He said she asked her several questions to ensure it wasn’t a mistake but her daughter was ‘emphatic’ about what had taken place.

Social services were contacted and police were also informed.

Noone, 26, who is dad to a young son, was arrested but denied the charge.

During the seven day trial in November 2016, experts told the court how they found his DNA on the girl’s clothing – providing strong support that he had sexual contact with the youngster.

Noone, of Stretford, was convicted by jury.

In a witness statement the child’s mother said it had been ‘devastating’ for the family

Judge Jeffrey Lewis said: “It’s clear that you abused her for your own sexual gratification.”

He said what he did was a ‘betrayal’ of her very young childhood.

The judge added: “You continue to deny any responsibility about this conduct. You have shown no remorse for what you did.”

He was given a three year sentence, will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Speaking after the sentencing, the child’s parents said: “We thought it would be around that amount of sentence. We would have been happier with four but that’s the way it goes.

“It’s been a total nightmare from start to finish especially with her having to go into court to give evidence. You read about it in the papers but don’t ever expect it to happen to you.

“We have managed to deal with it and now we are trying to keep everything as normal as possible and be there for her.”

Sex offender caught sharing indecent images online

A sex offender who said he felt humiliated after he was caught sharing indecent images online has been handed a community order for his ‘despicable’ offending.

Mark Walton fell into depression after police discovered he had more than 400 indecent images of children between six and 10, Oxford Crown Court heard.

The 19-year-old, who helps care for his wheelchair-bound mother, confessed he started viewing the ‘grotesque’ material when he was just 16.

But Walton, of Springfield Drive, Abingdon, claimed he did not have any sexual interest towards youngsters.

Deputy Circuit Judge Patrick Eccles QC slammed the sex offender for refusing to tell the court why he downloaded the pictures on his laptop and mobile phone.

He handed him a three-year community order, with a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement, along with a sexual harm prevention order, 100-hours unpaid work and a 30-day internet sex offenders treatment programme.

Prosecutor Cathy Olliver told the court Walton, who had no previous convictions, immediately identified himself when police searched his home while he was with his family last January.

The defendant’s Sony laptop and Samsung Galaxy phone were seized before he was whisked to Abingdon Police Station, where he admitted downloading and sharing the images.

Walton, who must also pay £475 costs and a victim surcharge, was remorseful, the barrister told the court on Thursday.

He admitted three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing prohibited images of a child between June 16, 2014, and January 1, 2016.

Shropshire man, 35, spared prison over child abuse images

A Shropshire man who shared thousands of indecent images of children has been spared jail.

Colin Rees, 35, narrowly avoided custody at Shrewsbury Crown Court, instead being given a two-year jail sentence suspended for two years.

However, he will be put on the sex offenders’ register and barred from working with children and young adults, and was also ordered to do 35 days rehabilitation and 300 hours unpaid work.

Rees, 35, formerly of John Street, Shrewsbury, but now living in Birchwood Close, Arleston, Telford, was charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, ranging from the most serious Category A to Category C, and three counts of distributing images in the same categories.

He was also charged with possession of indecent images of children and extreme pornographic images involving animals.

Benjamin Lawrence, prosecuting, said the distribution was the more serious offence as “making” did not mean production, but rather downloading of both still and moving images.

He said these offences came to light after a check of an “IP” address registered at Rees’s home.

“Police attended on February 25 to execute a search warrant,” he said.

He said Rees immediately admitted to police that he possessed the images and even showed officers his laptop where they were kept. He then immediately had a conversation with his wife where he admitted having the images and told her he “had a problem”, Mr Lawrence said.

He said Rees had started by looking at normal adult pornography sites and got talking to other users and they started to share images.

Rees shared images via “fairly unsophisticated” methods such as on Yahoo’s photo sharing facility and Skype, he said.

Paul Smith, defending, said: “He accepts fully what he has done and accepts fully that there are consequences.”

He said Rees had already put himself on a sex offenders’ course and family members were working to ensure he would never re-offend.

“If there is any step again down this road, it will be spotted,” he said.

Judge Jim Tindal said: “Every image you have looked at, every image you have shared is a childhood destroyed somewhere around the world. But it is not everyone who finds themselves in the position of being so pro-active in trying to make things right when they come to court.”

Elderly pervert admits string of sex attacks on two girls including six-year-old

AN elderly paedophile has admitted a string of sex attacks on two underage girls.

Maurice Wells, 76, was due to stand trial for a number of sex offences but admitted three counts of sexual activity with a child about ten years ago and three historic counts of indecent assault in the 1990s before proceedings began at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday.

One of the victims was aged below 16 at the time of the incidents and the second was aged six and seven when Wells forced himself on her.

The Crown Prosecution Service decided it was not in the interest of justice to pursue other offences he was alleged to have committed.

Sentencing of Wells has been adjourned until March and he will undergo a number of medical reports.

Speaking to Wells, Judge David Turner QC said: “Your sentencing seems a long way away but it is in your best interest proper material is prepared.”

The judge also praised prosecutor Emma Nash and Richard Potts, mitigating for Wells, for finding a solution which would not see the two victims have to give evidence.

He added: “This is a solution which has spared the victims the stress and indignity of having to appear in the witness box.”

Wells, of Walton Road, Clacton, who was wearing a pink polo shirt and jeans, apologised to members of his family in the public gallery saying he was sorry to be putting them through this as he was taken away.

There was no application for bail, meaning Wells will be remanded in custody until he is sentenced.

Saleem Patel – Dewsbury

Pervert said he was addicted to child and animal abuse images

A man found with sick images of child and animal porn got hooked on pornography after becoming depressed due to his strict Islamic upbringing.

Police searched Saleem Patel’s Dewsbury home after he was arrested in London for an offence of voyeurism after filming a woman breastfeeding.

Prosecutor Alex Bozman told Kirklees Magistrates’ Court that as a consequence of this a number of computer devices were seized from the 40-year-old’s home.

They included various images which were examined by a West Yorkshire Police forensics expert.

Of the images found one of these was classed as falling under category A, the most serious category of indecent images and involving penetrative sexual activity.

Two images fell within category B and four were classed as category C.

Patel also had in his possession two prohibited images of children and two extreme pornography images.

Mr Bozman explained that these showed acts of bestiality involving a horse and a dog.

The offences came to light in April 2015 after Patel was arrested and later sentenced to a community order for outraging public decency.

Stuart Field, mitigating, said that his client was brought up in Dewsbury and had the best education but a strict upbringing.

He told magistrates: “There was a strong Islamic emphasis within the family.

“Mr Patel found himself in a strict upbringing and not being able to go out and have the opportunities socially that he had seen with his colleagues and friends.

“That led to depression and Mr Patel discovered internet pornography.

“What started off as an interest became an obsession and that grew into an addiction.”

Mr Field added that Patel was not attracted to children but they were “collateral to the legal surfing he was doing.”

He said the impact of legal proceedings on his client had been “catastrophic” with him losing his managerial position when police informed his employer.

Mr Field said: “He moved from Dewsbury, not because of the reaction in the community but because of his shame.”

Magistrates heard that Patel, currently of Paragon Street in Hull, was in the process of moving back to the town.

They ordered him to sign the Sex Offender’s Register for five years.

Patel must also complete a community order with 80 hours of unpaid work.

His computer equipment seized will be forfeited and destroyed.

He must pay £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.

Southery man admits making indecent images of children

A 36-year-old man from Southery has pleaded guilty to 13 offences relating to making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images of animals.

At a pre-sentence hearing at Lynn’s Magistrates’ Court on Friday, the court was told that the indecent images covered categories A, B and C.

The court also heard that the photographs were made sometime between December 1999 and June 2016 – when the images were found by police.

Boyes was released on bail, on the condition that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, unless unavoidable.

A Skelmersdale man has admitted trying to incite an under-age girl into sexual activity.

24-year-old Samuel Brown had been due to face trial on Monday but after he pleaded guilty to three of the five charges he faced the other two similar alleged offences were dropped.

Brown, who was walking with a stick, admitted three offences of causing or inciting a girl when she was aged 14 or 15 to engage in sexual activity between March 1 and December 19, 2015.

Andrew Ford, prosecuting, said that the offences involved him sending Facebook messages to the school girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, during a course of conduct lasting about eight months.

Liverpool Crown Court heard Brown, of Burncroft, Skelmersdale, has no previous convictions and is a family man whose partner gave birth to a child last week.

He wiped away tears when Judge Clement Goldstone, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, warned him, “The offences to which you have pleaded guilty carry substantial sentences of imprisonment.”

He further remanded him on bail to await sentence next Monday and ordered him in the interim to sign on the Sex Offenders Register.

Man jailed for 21 years for ‘absolutely abhorrent’ abuse of boys

shane

A Barnsley man has begun serving a 21-year sentence after being jailed for child sex offences.

Shane Simpson, 38, of Edmunds Road, Worsborough Dale, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday after a week-long trial.

He had been found guilty of nine separate charges of rape and sexual activity with two boys under the age of 16.

Simpson originally denied the charges against him and as such was brought to trial as a result of a lengthy and complex investigation and the support of the victims.

His victims had to endure the trauma of having to recount details in court, before Simpson was convicted by a jury for these truly horrendous crimes.

An investigation began in September 2015 after the abuse was reported to police.

It found Simpson had abused the two victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, over a number of years in Barnsley.

In addition to the jail term, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

South Yorks pool pervert jailed after hiding camera in girls’ changing rooms

A pervert filmed girls getting changed in a swimming pool changing room through a hole which was drilled in a partition, a court heard.

Stephen Cocking, aged 53, admitted possessing indecent images of children, voyeurism and possessing extreme images at an earlier hearing.

Cocking, of Grange Road, Rotherham, recorded young girls and adults getting changed at Doncaster Dome Leisure Centre around June 14 last year, Sheffield Crown Court.

The Dome has since put in place major improvements to its changing facilities.

But Cocking was jailed for 18 months and banned from swimming pools for 10 years.

Prosecutor Michael Tooley told the court that he believed Cocking or another person drilled a hole between a partition dividing changing cubicles and then used it to film young girls and adults.

The voyeurism came to light when he was arrested on July 1 last year after shop workers on Mexborough High Street spotted him filming young girls’ and adults’ bottoms.

Officers discovered that Cocking downloaded 1,455 child abuse images and videos onto his computer and mobile phone, including footage recorded at the swimming pool and in Mexborough.

The court heard that the recordings in Mexborough showed the bottoms of young girls and adults.

Cocking’s stash included 168 images which were Category A, the worst kind – 163 at category B – and 1,124 at Category C. Police also discovered 263 extreme videos that included adults having sex with animals.

When he was being interviewed by police about his rimes Cocking tried to defend himself by saying “everybody likes a bottom”.

Judge Dixon decided that Cocking needed to be jailed.

Judge Dixon said: “You made videos of males and females who thought they were in a private place where they thought they were entitled to privacy. The only reason you did that is for your own sexual gratification. “You need to realise that what you were doing here was horrible and you need to realise it quickly.”

Cocking was also ordered to inform the police if he changes address or goes on holiday.

Paedophile snared after sharing extreme child abuse images through instant messenger

A Paisley man shared extreme child abuse images with other paedophiles through ‘kik messenger’ on his mobile phone.

Sick John Doherty, 35, Argyle Street, Paisley, scurried away from Glasgow Sheriff Court today with his hood up and face covered after pleading guilty to possessing and distributing indecent photographs of children between March 13 and March 26, 2016.

Procurator Fiscal Depute Zahra Latif told the court that officers from Police Scotland attended the home that Doherty shared with his partner with a warrant at 7.44am on March 23 last year.

His mobile phone was seized and he was taken to London Road police station.

Officers from Police Scotland’s cyber crime unit found 213 unique images on the device.

Doherty had 74 still and 47 moving images that fall under Category A – the most sickening and graphic content.

In court, Procurator Fiscal depute Latif described one of the videos that Doherty had shared of an adult molesting a six month old child.

Doherty had shared the image with individuals and 56 other users.

Police also discovered 65 still and 14 moving Category B images. There were also 13 still Category C images on his phone.

Doherty’s defence counsel Mr Smith asked for bail, as he is a first offender.

Sheriff Alan MacKenzie granted this and ordered a background report from the Clyde Key assessment centre.

However he told the accused he was now subject to notification requirements of the sex offences act.

Doherty will return for sentencing next month.

Sex offender involved in Norwich “web of abuse” given suspended jail term

pj

Philip Jones, also known as Philip Flaherty, in 2009

A sex offender who was involved in a “web of abuse” involving Norwich paedophile Roy Reynolds in the 1990s, has been given a two year suspended jail term.

Roy Reynolds, 68, who was jailed for life in 1999 for his part in a vice ring involving young boys, was jailed a further 16 months, this week, following fresh allegations and now another man, Philip Jones, 66, has appeared at Norwich Crown Court, after one of Reynolds’ victims made a further allegation of sex abuse involving him.

Jones, who now lives in Spain and is in poor health, admitted sexually assaulting the boy when he was about 13 or 14 back in the 1990s.

The court heard that Jones had already served a 30 month sentence back in 1998, for indecent assault, and although the victim was spoken to at the time, at that stage he did not want to make any complaint against Jones.

Mark Roochove, prosecuting, said that it was only later that the victim, who offended himself, contacted police after he came out of prison to make complaints about the abuse he suffered at the hands of Reynolds and also made a complaint about Jones.

He said that Reynolds had introduced the victim to Jones and he had taken him to his home, in the Norwich area, where he was indecently assaulted.

Philip Farr, for Jones, said that the allegation dated back 25 years ago and Jones, like Reynolds, had now been rehabilitated and not re-offended.

“He was drawn into the Roy Reynolds web. He is not a predatory, grooming paedophile.”

Sentencing him to two years jail, suspended for two years, Judge Stephen Holt said Jones was entitled to credit for his guilty plea.

“You had been introduced to this boy by Reynolds. It’s quite plain he(Reynolds) was at the centre of this web involving the abuse of young boys to people such as you.”

He added: “He was being abused by a large number of men during this period and its right to say when the investigation took place, which resulted in your conviction in 1998, the victim had been approached by police and asked if anything happened to him and had specifically said no.”

Judge Holt said it was only later the victim had come forward as he wanted closure on what happened.

He also placed Jones on the sex offender register for 10 years.

Mum jailed for repeatedly having sex with schoolboy

A Manchester mum has been jailed for having sex with a teen boy for 18 months after he sent her a text message asking if she would like to ‘just to see what she would say’.

The boy, who was aged under 16 at the time, wanted to experiment sexually and sent the message: “would you like to have sex?”

She agreed to have sex and told him “okay then” – but she later gave him “the eye” on other occasions and sexual behaviour continued for 18 months, a court heard.

Christine Mitchell, 42, admitted three offences of sexual activity with a child between October 2009 and May 2011.

Craig Lowe, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that the woman had replied to the schoolboy asking whether anyone would find out and, when he reassured her, she sent a text saying: “Okay then.”

By sending the messages, the boy had “tried it on with the older woman”.

They went into her bathroom at her home, where they had sexual activity.

There were other occasions when the boy claimed Mitchell “used to give me the eye” and they had sex at addresses used by her.

The teenager later claimed: “I didn’t want to do it any more because I was disgusted in myself.”

Mr Lowe told the court: “He didn’t want to have sex any more. She said: ‘Okay’.”

Mitchell later told police that the boy had supposedly “pestered her” and that she felt under pressure, intimidated and too ashamed to tell anybody.

“I got fed up with saying ‘no’,” she claimed.

Mitchell had been in custody since July and was thoroughly ashamed of her actions, the court heard.

Judge Paul Watson QC told Mitchell: “I accept that this was not a case when sexual activity, to begin with, was initiated by you.

“There is no element here of grooming or corruption of the boy concerned.

“It’s always a serious offence to engage in sexual activity with children under 16.

“The law exists to protect children from themselves and you willingly engaged in sexual activity with him on a number occasions.

“These offences were extremely serious and only a custodial sentence can be justified.”

Mitchell was jailed for three years and was ordered to notify her details as a sex offender for life.
