Loner with obsession for child abuse had 1.8 million indecent images on his computer

POLICE found 1.8 million images on the computer equipment of a loner with an obsession for child abuse.

Simon Pattison amassed the sickening library of photographs and videos over years spent isolated in his bedroom, a court heard.

Yet the 32-year-old dodged a prison sentence when a judge declared: “It is just possible because there’s been no distribution.”

Officers were stunned by the scale of the downloaded collection, and it would “take forever” to categorise every single one.

Mr Hadfield said the longest video lasted more than three-and-half hours, and there were also images of extreme pornography.

Office worker Pattison said he did not realise looking at the vile material created a demand and real children were being abused.

The court heard how he started looking at adult pornography before switching to searching for boys and girls nine years ago.

Defence lawyer Scott Taylor said: “He spent many of his early years sitting at his computer without any social interaction.

“He is a bit of a loner, and his first girlfriend was when he was 27, who was with him when the police attended the premises.

“That relationship has obviously fallen by the wayside. His parents and his girlfriend had no idea he was accessing this material.

“He resigned from his job to save his employers embarrassment. He has been working since he left university and contributing to society.”

Pattison admitted charges of making and possessing indecent images of children, prohibited images of children and extreme pornography.

He was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and put on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.

Judge Peter Armstrong told Pattison, of Honeycombe Avenue, Stockton, would have been jailed if he had shared the images.

He was also given a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order which is designed to restrict his use of computers and the internet.

Llanfairfechan man admits string of child sex offences including rape

A 45-year-old man wept after admitting a series of serious charges of indecency against a child and possessing and distributing indecent images of a youngster.

Peris Griffiths of Llwyn y Gog Llanfairfechan appeared before a judge at Caernarfon Crown Court by videolink from prison.

During the 20-minute hearing he spoke only to confirm his name and to enter pleas to 28 charges.

Griffiths pleaded guilty to nine charges of rape, nine charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and two of sexual assault against a child under the age of 13 and one charge of attempted sexual assault on a child.

He denied two other charges of sexual assault and prosecutor Anna Pope said the pleas were acceptable to the Crown.

The judge ordered these two charges to lie on the file.

Griffiths also admitted four charges of distributing an indecent image of a child and one charge of possessing a total of 879 indecent images of children.

There were 155 classed at the highest category the court heard.

Wearing a dark blue sweatshirt, Griffiths appeared to be very emotional as he sat in the dock.

Charges related to offences committed by Griffiths between March 2009 and September this year, when he was arrested.

During today’s hearing Simon Killeen, defending, asked for an adjournment for the preparation of reports.

Judge Huw Rees said he agreed with the application and adjourned sentence until December 16.

No application for bail was made and Griffiths was remanded in custody.

Pervert jailed over sex acts with schoolgirl

gain

A man has been jailed for more than three years for his sexual liaisons with a girl who became “besotted” with him.

Philip Gainford met the underage girl on the beach, had sex with her and she sent him 291 pictures of herself.

He listed her number on his phone under the name “my princess”, Teesside Crown Court heard

The 30-year-old man carried on his communication with the schoolgirl despite the fact it had already landed him in the dock.

Gainford, who used the name “iamsoevil” online, exchanged hundreds of messages with her, it was revealed.

They then went on to repeatedly meet, prosecutor Harry Hadfield said. Gainford had been given a suspended prison sentence and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order in October last year for sexual offences involving the girl – his first conviction.

He was ordered to stay away from her, but months later they resumed contact and ended up meeting for sex.

The latest crimes came to light when a public protection officer made a routine visit to his home.

Gainford, of Troutpool Close, Hartlepool , admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child, four of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one of breaching a sexual harm prevention order and one of possessing indecent photographs of children.

Judge Sean Morris told Gainford: “If I’d been dealing with an average individual I would have thrown the book at you, and hard.

“As it is, I have to pass an immediate custodial sentence because that I think is the only way you’re going to learn.

“I do not consider you a danger to young women.

“Should you ever commit any form of sexual offence against any girl in the future, you will be regarded as dangerous and could be looking at a life sentence.

Gainford was jailed for three years and four months and will be on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Troon animal porn pervert fined £2000 for ‘extreme’ images

david-baillie-troon

A MAN who was caught with pornographic images of women involved in sexual activity with animals has been fined £2000.

David Baillie, of Earn Road, Troon admitted being in possession of these ‘extreme’ images on July, 3 this year at his home.

Baillie appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how officers had been issued a warrant to search Baillie’s home.

Depute Fiscal Scott Toal said: “He had images of an indecent nature. There were pictures of adult females involving dogs. 36 of these were videos and 21 were still. Mr Baillie was interviewed but made no admissions.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Robert Logan said: “He has been very accepting of the relevance of this matter and accepts his responsibility. He has worked since he left school.”

Sheriff Montgomery asked: “Remind me why this is not a regulatory offence?”

Mr Logan responded: “It did not used to be an offence until 2004. I do not think they want to clutter up the register with people who should not be on it.”

Sheriff Montgomery said: “It seems strange. I see from the criminal justice social work report that while searching for adult pornographic images police found 36 moving images and 21 were still.”

Baillie has been ordered by Sheriff Montgomery to pay £2000 by Wednesday, December 7.

Dudley man had stash of 9,000 child sexual abuse images

A pervert form Dudley has admitted creating and hoarding a huge stash of more than 9,000 child sexual abuse images.

Stephen Poole, aged 55, of Oak Street, Coseley, pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children and three of possessing indecent images of children with a view to distributing or sharing them.

The images were created between October 2002 and May 2006.

Poole created 805 Category A images, which depict the most serious levels of child sex abuse. He also created 779 Category B images and 6,600 Category C pictures.

He was also in possession of 107 Category A images, 88 Category B images and 650 in Category C.

Poole has been bailed for pre-sentence reports on condition that he has no unsupervised contact with children aged 17 or younger, does not do any work, voluntary or paid, which puts him in direct contact with children, and does not access the internet other than at a public library or job centre.

He was also ordered to sign onto the sex offenders register.

Judge Michael Challinor told Poole at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday that he would be sentenced on December 9.

Norfolk man jailed 24 years for sex offences

A Norfolk man, who carried out a campaign of sex abuse on a young girl, has been jailed for 24 years

Ian Bennett, 52, of no fixed address, was convicted following a trial of a number of rapes and sex assaults on the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Norwich Crown Court heard that the sex abuse started when the girl was about nine years old after he groomed her by showing her pornographic images and he then went on to rape the victim, when she was 13.

Charles Myatt, prosecuting, said it was only later, as an adult, the victim found the courage to come forward and make a complaint about the abuse she had suffered.

Mr Myatt said when police arrested Bennett they found more than 8000 indecent images on his computer, including extreme porn, In an impact statement the victim said she felt “broken” by the abuse by Bennett, who worked as a sandwich delivery driver.

Jailing him for 24 years and placing him on the sex offender register for life, Judge Katharine Moore said that he had “groomed” his victim and had showed her pornographic images.

She said his actions had a profound effect on his victim and said: “You have shown no remorse.”

She added that he posed a risk of serious sexual harm to young girls.

Dan Taylor, for Bennett, said the defendant still did not accept his conviction by the jury.

He said that Bennett, who was a man of previous good character, used to work six days a week as a delivery driver for a sandwich company.

He said that the indecent images of children were among a variety of other porn images Bennett had downloaded and claimed he got no sexual gratification from the images featuring children.

Primary school teacher had 10,000 indecent pictures of children

scott

A teacher caught with more than 10,000 images of children including young children being raped has avoided prison

Scott Paskins, aged 28, worked for two years at a Plymouth primary school in spite of his dark secret, a court heard.

Paskins has since left the unnamed school and is now banned from working with children again after his sentence at Plymouth Crown Court.

Handing him a suspended prison term with sex offender treatment, Judge Ian Lawrie said: “I do not think he clearly recognises the appalling harm that viewing this sort of material does.

He and thousands like him encourage this material to be put online.”

Some of the images are of the most perverted category, showing adults abusing children.

Paskins, of Bonville Road, Southway, pleaded guilty to three counts of making or downloading indecent images of children between 2000 and 2014.

The admissions mean he goes on a list of people banned from ever working with children.

Michael Brown, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said police traced suspect images being downloaded from the internet to his address.

He added officers found indecent images on two laptops and a computer hard drive.

Police found 215 images in the most severe category, A; 671 images in category B; and 10,314 in Category C.

Judge Lawrie imposed a 12-month prison sentence, but suspended it for two years.

Paskins must complete the Horizons sex offender treatment course, pay £320 costs and £100 victim surcharge.

He was also handed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order which restricts his contact with children and allows police to monitor his internet use.

Belfast man admits raping 12-year-old girl and making her pregnant

conaire-adams-whyte

A Northern Ireland man has admitted raping a 12-year-old girl and leaving her pregnant.

The 20-year-old from the Springfield Road area of west Belfast was freed on bail and is now living at a secret address after being threatened by dissident republicans.

He is also banned from having any contact with a second son who he fathered at the same time.

Conaire Adams-Whyte pleaded guilty at a court sitting last Wednesday.

His admission means new details can be reported about the way he took advantage of his schoolgirl victim.

The sex offender, who also uses the nickname ‘Mitch’, has a female relative who was good friends with the 12-year-old’s mother.

The woman was supposed to be baby-sitting the child, but was not at home when she was dropped off at her house in July 2015.

However, Whyte was inside the property and he raped the schoolgirl, who told her mother what happened afterwards.

The sex attacker was arrested and denied even touching his victim.

As part of their investigation detectives took DNA samples from him – something that would later prove crucial in determining his guilt.

Two months after her rape, the 12-year-old found out she was pregnant.

Adams-Whyte was arrested a second time, and once again denied any wrongdoing.

But when the baby was born earlier this year it was DNA tested and he was found to be the father.

He was immediately charged with rape and last Wednesday, a full 16 months after sexually assaulting the vulnerable schoolgirl, he finally admitted his guilt.

Not only will Adams-Whyte be prevented from having anything to do with the child he fathered, he is banned from seeing a second son he had with his ex-girlfriend just months earlier.

Adams-Whyte has also been told he is no longer welcome in west Belfast, and is understood to be under threat from dissident republicans.

One source said: “Conaire will be risking his life if he comes back here, the community is outraged at his behaviour. Not only was his victim just 12 years old, she is also extremely vulnerable.

“That b*****d took advantage of that, raped her, got her pregnant, then denied being the father until DNA evidence proved otherwise.”

Dunfermline rapist jailed for six years

A DUNFERMLINE man who repeatedly raped a young woman throughout her childhood has been jailed for six years.

Despicable David Cox, 64, started preying on the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, when she was aged six in July 1980.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how he continued to abuse the female at addresses in the town until July 1996 when she was 21.

The story emerged following a trial at the high court last month.

Jurors convicted Cox, of Cleish Place, of rape and sentence was deferred for the court to obtain reports.

On Friday, judge Lady Scott placed him on the sex offender register and said she had no other option but to send him to prison.

She added: “I have no doubt that your victim has been badly damaged by your conduct.”

Man driven from home after sharing indecent picture of a child avoids jail

Michael Wren, 42, leaving Teesside Crown Court

A man driven from his home after sharing an indecent picture of a child using WhatsApp has avoided jail.

Michael Wren, 42, admitted four charges of making illegal images of children as young as five when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court last month.

He admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of children – two of making illegal images in June last year, one of making an indecent photo on a date before March 7 this year.

He also pleaded guilty to one charge of distributing an indecent image via WhatsApp to a female on September 12 last year.

Following the hearing, The Gazette reported how furious locals targeted Wren, throwing missiles at his house and driving him from his Pallister Park home on Fransham Road.

Yesterday, at Teesside Crown Court, prosecutor Harry Hadfield said Wren had only been caught out when he was arrested on October 20 2015 for an unrelated incident.

“When he was arrested, he had a smart phone in his possession,” said Mr Hadfield.

“Six indecent images of children were found on the handset.”

Mr Hadfield went on to say that on March 6, while on police bail, Wren was again arrested and was found with another phone.

When officers examined the second mobile, they found a further 25 indecent images.

One of the images – too disturbing to describe – was deemed to be in the most serious category in law.

After the phone was confiscated and inspected, police discovered he had shared one of the indecent images with a woman using WhatsApp.

Mr Hadfield added that the case was aggravated because all of the children involved were prepubescent.

Alex Bousfield, defending, said: “He’s not denied them but says he can’t recall committing the offences.

“There’s a very limited number (of images) compared to other cases.”

Mr Bousfield added that his client had been ran out of the area he lived in and had only limited previous convictions for unconnected matters.

Sentencing Wren, Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough said: “This is not a victimless crime.

“It continues the trade in the abuse of children.

“Those who look at images like this simply encourage those who create these images.

“You need help in changing any thinking you have about this kind of image.

“You have already suffered in the community by those who view you as a paedophile.”

Wren was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

He was ordered to take part in a sexual offenders programme and was given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

His internet use will be restricted and monitored by police.

Man admits making indecent pictures of children

A 42-year-old man has pleaded guilty to making indecent pictures of children – and distributing an illegal image via WhatsApp.

Michael Wren admitted four charges when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Monday.

He admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of children – two of making illegal images in June last year, one of making an indecent photo on a date before March 7 this year.

He also pleaded guilty to one charge of distributing an indecent image via WhatsApp to a named female recipient on September 12 last year.

Alex Bousfield, defending, said Wren was a working man with limited convictions and an issue with depression.

Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, ordered a pre-sentence report into Wren before sentencing on October 30.

He told Wren, of Fransham Road, Pallister Park , Middlesbrough: “You’ve had the good sense to plead guilty to this indictment.

“In the fullness of time you’ll be given appropriate credit for those pleas of guilty.

“I’ll grant you bail in the meantime.”

Man admits making indecent images of children

A MAN from Lighthorne Heath has admitted making hundreds of indecent images of children.

Frank Swales, 59, pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court on Friday, 4th November, to three charges of making 31 category A indecent images, six category B indecent images, 196 category C indecent moving images and 86 category C still indecent images between 2009 and 2016.

The images were found spread across five devices, though most were discovered on a USB stick.

The case was adjourned for sentence until 2nd December to give the Crown Prosecution Service time to decide whether to accept the basis for Swales’ plea.

Judge Steven Eyre, said the contents of the USB stick would determine sentence and ordered Swales to sign the sex offenders’ register and was granted bail on the condition that he does not have contact with anyone under the age of 16 without supervision.

Further conditions prohibit him to possess equipment capable of accessing the internet and to not to take up any employment or voluntary position which might put him in contact with any vulnerable person.

Swales was told that the length of time he would be required to sign the sex offenders’ register would be decided at his next appearance in court.

Internet sex offender with indecent photos is spared from jail

An internet sex offender has been given a suspended prison sentence after he was caught during a police operation for distributing and making indecent photos of children.

Derby Crown Court recently heard how John Carnall, 67, of Leabrooks Road, Somercotes, Alfreton, was snared by Greater Manchester Police during an operation that targeted people using the internet for sexual offences.

Prosecuting solicitor Robert Carr told a previous hearing at Chesterfield magistrates’ court that these offences came to light as part of a Greater Manchester Police operation and included evidence of people making images of children and making them available to others over the internet by a peer-to-peer network.

This police investigation led to an address, according to Mr Carr, which was visited by police in February and Carnall was there and he made admissions to police of being responsible for these images.

Mr Carr added that police inspected Carnall’s computer equipment and discovered 28 category A images, 13 category B images and 63 category C images of children including 21 movies.

Carnall accepted to police that he had used a laptop and no one else but him had downloaded any of the images concerned to the network.

The defendant also told police he had shared some of these images and he had been downloading these images for some time.

Carnall pleaded guilty to distributing an indecent photo at Leabrooks Road between December 17, 2013 and February 3, 2016.

He also admitted three counts of making indecent photos at Leabrooks Road between the same dates concerning the 28 category A images, the 13 category B images and the 63 category C images.

Mr Carr had said the defendant accepted it had been going on for over about six years and he was disgusted with himself and realised what he had done was wrong.

District Judge Andrew Davison committed Carnall’s case from Chesterfield magistrates’ court to Derby Crown Court for sentencing.

Carnall was given a six-month custodial sentence suspended for 24 months providing he commits no further offences in the next two years.

He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and he was banned from working with children.

Carnall was also ordered to pay £200 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Former Guildford Lib Dem election agent avoids jail after admitting downloading child sexual abuse images

A former Liberal Democrat election agent with a history of child sexual abuse images convictions has been given a chance of rehabilitation, despite pleading guilty to further charges of making indecent images of children.

Police seized computer equipment and memory sticks which were found to contain photographs and a movie of young boys engaged in sexual activities from the home of Robert Somper, Guildford Crown Court was told on Wednesday afternoon (November 16).

Prosecuting counsel Warwick Tatford said the images showed young boys performing indecent acts.

Somper, a Liberal Democrat agent in the Guildford Borough Council elections in 2007, appeared for sentence after previously pleading guilty to three offences of making indecent photographs of children.

The court the Somper, 79, of Park Road, Woking, committed the offences between June 16 2014, and April 3 last year.

He denied a fourth charge of being in breach of a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) imposed by Snaresbrook Crown Court on May 11 2010.

The prosecution agreed to drop the SOPO breach allegation.

Mr Tatford explained that the 2010 court order had banned Somper from downloading indecent images from the internet.

“It was because police thought he was in breach of the SOPO by accessing material on the internet illegally that they visited his address,” he said.

In the event, he said, it had not been possible to prove whether the defendant had got the image from accessing it online or from a memory stick given to him by someone else.

Judge Peter Moss said: “He has not breached the order but circumnavigated it.”

Mr Tatford said the pornography material consisted only of two images and a short film.

On arrest the defendant said he was interested in adult males, not children.

Somper, who shared the stage with Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg at the 2009 party conference, was jailed at Snaresbrook Crown Court for three months in 2010 for possession of child pornography.

Mr Tatford said: “There is the obvious aggravating factor of the previous convictions.”

The court was told that the defendant was a married man whose wife had been recovering from cancer and a stroke.

The court heard that Somper would be celebrating his golden wedding anniversary in August next year.

“His wife is in very poor health,” said Ms Stevenson.

She said her client was engaging with the various court orders and rehabilitation measures.

Judge Moss said he would defer sentence until May 5 next year to see how the defendant progressed.

“If you commit no further offences, I will suspend the sentence. Otherwise, you’re going straight to prison,” he said.

Judge Moss also imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, to replace the current SOPO, restricting the defendant’s contact with anyone under 18.

May 2010

Lib Dem election agent jailed over child sexual abuse images

A PROMINENT Liberal Democrat election agent caught with child pornography at his Woking home has been jailed for three months.

Robert Somper, 73, of Park Road, shared the stage with Lib Dem leader, and now deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg at last year’s party conference.

But he has been locked up following the discovery of hundreds of depraved photos and films at a London maisonette he rented as well as at his family home in Woking.

Somper was snared after tenants found polaroids of a nude 11-year-old boy that had been posted to the defendant’s London address.

Entry was forced to Somper’s locked bedroom, which was crammed with twisted videos, photographs and scrapbooks filled with articles about child sex abuse.

Police officers also found he had downloaded images of child rape and simulated torture on a shared computer in the living room.

And at his £300,000 family home in Woking, they discovered more obscene images on his PC and gay porn in his briefcase.

When the married father was asked to explain his possession of the images and photographs, he told detectives: “I have kept that aspect of my life separate from my life in Woking.”

Jailing Somper at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, Judge Tudor Owen said: “Public revulsion of offences of this nature is in my view entirely understandable.

“Whether it is possession, making it or distributing indecent images, it all contributes to the market in child pornography.

“Every pornographic image involving a child is in fact a picture of a child being abused – it is not a victimless offence.”

Judge Owen ordered Somper to sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years and banned him from surfing the web for porn for the same period, as part of a sexual offences prevention order.

He was also told to pay £580 in prosecution costs and to take care of his own defence fees.

“I see no reason whatsoever why the taxpayer should pay for your legal representation,” said Judge Owen.

The judge also hit out at offensive comments made in mitigation last month by Somper’s barrister Jonathan Mitchell, who appeared to justify his client ogling child porn.

“On April 16, when you were represented by Mr Jonathan Mitchell, he asserted that no harm was done if the youngsters in the images or videos were volunteers, or enjoyed what they were doing, or were being paid,” said Judge Owen.

“I was rather taken aback – it was the first time I have heard [those type of comments] in criminal courts in decades.”

The judge read a series of character references describing Somper as an “active member” of his politcal party who was “involved in running the national Liberal Democrats’ annual draw for many years”.

But Somper, who was an agent for failed Guildford Lib Dem candidate Robert Benson in the May 2007 local elections, claimed he had “withdrawn” from this year’s general election campaign.

Somper admitted six counts of making an indecent photograph of a child and four counts of possession of indecent photographs of children on or before November 29, 2008.

‘Predator’ jailed for ‘heinous’ string of sexual offences against children

mp

A sexual predator who committed a “heinous and serious” set of offences against children has been jailed for a minimum of 10 years.

Mark Phillips, of Northway Road, Littlehampton, was sentenced to 21 years behind bars on Friday (October 7) after being found guilty of 10 counts of sexual assault at Guildford Crown Court

The 60-year-old will serve a minimum of 10 years as well as being subject to a sexual harm prevention order.

But those close to some of the victim’s families have said how the case has brought “turmoil to a lot of people” involved.

One close acquaintance said: “I think he’s disgusting, he’s caused a lot of turmoil to a lot of people.

“I’m devastated by what he’s done, and the families affected must also be devastated.

“It’s very upsetting, how are the affected children supposed to get over something like this?”

Another acquaintance added: “It goes to show you can’t trust anyone, anyone who knew him has just got to pick up the pieces and get on with their lives.”

Mr Phillip’s conviction was brought about by a “complex and lengthy” investigation by Surrey Police

Warblington with Emsworth vicar resigns over sex acts with schoolgirl

A vicar has resigned after an investigation found he engaged in sexual acts with a schoolgirl.

Rev Simon Sayers, of the Warblington with Emsworth parish, Hampshire, was arrested over an allegation of indecent assault, in London in the 1990s.

Police did not charge him, but an internal church investigation found his behaviour with the 16-year-old abused his position of trust.

He has been banned from ministry for five years by the Church of England.

The Metropolitan Police arrested the vicar in January 2015 after it was informed of alleged offences that took place in the Islington area when he was in parish ministry there in 1995.

Because of the 2015 police investigation he was suspended from the Church of England, but in April 2015 he was told by police he would face no further action.

However, a complaint was made to the Church that same month, prompting it to carry out its own investigation.

At its conclusion, the Bishop of London, the Right Reverend Richard Chartres, found the vicar “engaged in conduct unbecoming a clergy person and inappropriate for a married man” and prohibited him from ministry for five years.

Mr Sayers resigned from his post in London in 1995 after what he described was a “brief ‘above the waist’ incident of a sexual nature, with someone over the age of consent, and a brief kiss two days later”.

He later became rector at the churches of Warblington with Emsworth where he served for 12 years.

In a statement, Mr Sayers said: “I have always believed that my behaviour in 1995 was wrong and fell below the high standards required of a Christian leader, and I am deeply sorry for the sadness the incident and its investigation has caused.”

A spokesman from the Church of England Diocese of Portsmouth said Mr Sayers had admitted “his part in initiating that sexual contact”.

It added: “The bishop’s penalty reflects both the seriousness of the Rev Simon Sayers’ behaviour on those occasions and of breaching the trust of a young person who had been in his pastoral care for some years.

“During the legal process, the Bishop of Portsmouth has visited the parish several times to offer his support to parishioners.

“The bishop and his staff have given practical help to the parish, its clergy and officers through this difficult period and will continue to do so.”

Parishioners and residents of Emsworth have shown support for Mr Sayers.

When the resignation announcement was made in church on Sunday, several members of the congregation and choir walked out.

Parishioner Norman Peers said: “Yes, the church has standards but the church also preaches a message of grace, forgiveness and pastoral care.

“These things seem to be sorely lacking in the heavy-handed response by church authorities. The hierarchy has turned its back on a much-loved man after years of sacrificial service.”

Man sentenced for looking at child sex abuse images

A Watford man was told by a judge today that he had showed “disgraceful, perverted curiosity” when he looked at child sex abuse images on the Internet.

Police stopped Pawal Zdunek, 28, as he left his home in Muriel Avenue in October last year.

Prosecutor Laura Blackband told St Albans Crown Court that he said he should speak to a lawyer and showed them his room.

Officers seized a computer tower and two hard drives.

When they were analysed, 161 images at Category C, the lowest level, were found along with 25 movies at Level A, the most serious level, 9 movies at Level B and 12 at Level C.

Zdunek, who now lives in St Albans, appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty on 21 October this year to 4 charges of making (downloading) indecent images.

Sarah Reed, defending, said he had no previous convictions and had lost his job.

Judge John Plumstead told him: “You are going to prison if you do this again. You have lived a respectable life but for this disgraceful perverted curiosity. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

He passed a three year community order with 60 days’ rehabilitation requirement. He must abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order and register as a sex offender for seven years.

Moldgreen man had images of boys as young as 10 on his computer

A man has been given a community order after police discovered indecent images of children on his computer.

Leeds Crown Court heard officers attended a flat in Laund Road, Salendine Nook , and seized two computer tower units belonging to Martin Blakey on November 4 last year.

Richard Walters, prosecuting, said when they were examined two still images and 20 moving images at Category A – the most serious – were recovered.

They also found six images and 10 movies at Category B and 70 still images at Category C.

Most involved boys aged 14 to 16 years but some showed victims aged as young as 10.

Michael Sisson-Pell, representing Blakey, said he had led a sheltered life with little sexual experience and had accessed general pornography during that period to gain some experience.

The 31-year-old had stopped looking after he began a relationship but the images had been left on the system. He had never been in any trouble before and was someone who the probation service had indicated they could work with.

Blakey, of Douglas Avenue, Moldgreen , admitted six charges of possessing indecent images and was given a three-year community order with 60 days’ rehabilitation activity requirement including the sex offender treatment programme.

Judge Guy Kearl QC told him: “The problem of this offending is that you promote the offences by generating people misbehaving towards these children and abusing them, because without people like you there would be no market.”

Exeter man jailed for sex with 14-year-old girl

kevin

A dog walker has been jailed after a shocked neighbour returned to her home to find him having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Kevin Briggs who is also known as Kevin Collins took the drunken schoolgirl out for a late night walk with a dog in a village near Exeter but then went into a neighbour’s unlocked back door and took the girl upstairs for sex.

The neighbour came home to find them half naked on her bed. She chucked them out and then called the police because she knew the girl was only 14.

Briggs, aged 33, originally from Sidmouth, now of Broadfields Road, Exeter, admitted sexual activity with a child and was jailed for three years and four months by Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, at Exeter Crown Court.

He told him:”You say you had no sexual interest in the girl before that night. I do not accept that. The aggravating features of this case are the significant disparity in age and the fact you had some responsibility for her that night.

“You had been drinking with her and knew she had been drinking heavily. She was only 14 and had drunk more than she should and was affected by it. You took advantage of her.”

Mr Sean Brunton, prosecuting, said the girl was visiting another member of the household in Feniton where Briggs was living at the time and everyone had been drinking.

Another teenager had gone to bed already because he had become ill through drinking and Briggs took the girl for a walk around the village with a dog.

They ended up going into a neighbour’s house where Briggs led her into a bedroom and they had sex.

The girl was so drunk she felt she was not in control of what happened and did not want to have sex.

The neighbour caught them having sex on her bed and threw them out of her house before calling the police.

Mr Paul Grumbar, defending, said Briggs had been found not guilty of the much more serious offence of rape by a jury at his trial last month.

He said the sex was consensual and Briggs’ account was that it was the girl who initiated it by kissing him while they were out walking the dog.

Man for child sex abuse and trafficking

A man who arranged for a 14-year-old girl to be taken from a Lincolnshire children’s home to London for sex has been jailed.

Billal Amin sent a taxi to collect the teenager and her 15-year-old friend and take them to a hotel in East London.

The two girls were given alcohol before the 14-year-old performed a sex act on Amin and had sex with another man.

Amin was jailed for 12 years and put on the sex offenders’ register for life at Lincoln Crown Court.

Martin Hurst, prosecuting, said after the assaults Amin took a taxi with the girls telling them they were going to his home.

When they left the taxi Amin disappeared abandoning the girls in London in the middle of the night.

The court was told they sought help and police were contacted resulting in an investigation that led to Amin’s arrest.

The inquiry revealed two months earlier Amin had met the girl in London when she had also performed a sex act on him.

Jailing him for 12 years, Judge Simon Hirst said he acted “disgracefully”.

He told him: “Abandoning a 14-year-old girl in London in the middle of the night beggars belief.”

Amin denied a charge of trafficking for sexual exploitation in March 2013 and two charges of sexual activity with a child but was convicted by a jury on a 10 to two majority.

He was cleared of a further charge of trafficking for sexual exploitation.

The 33-year-old, of Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, was also given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order banning him from having contact with any child under 16.
