Woman thought partner was ‘cheating’ but mobile phone check revealed pictures of her young daughter in shower

9

A WOMAN who suspected her boyfriend of cheating discovered he had secretly been taking photographs of her daughter in the shower when she checked his mobile phone.

Dog groomer Adrian Doy, 48, will be sentenced later today after admitting three counts of possessing and making indecent images of children and for possessing one extreme pornographic image of a dog.

He was thrown out by his girlfriend when she discovered the images on his phone after she checked it.

Phillip Evans, prosecuting at Hull Crown Court, said: “The defendant’s almost obsessive use of his mobile phone caught the attention of his girlfriend.

“The defendant, most out of character, left his mobile phone unguarded on the kitchen worktop and her curiosity got the better of her.

“Frankly, she thought his obsession with the mobile phone was because he was having an affair.

“When she looked through it, she found a number of images which she recognised as her own shower cubicle and she saw the figure of a child taking a shower.

“There were about 12 indecent images that had been plainly taken without knowledge of the child in question.”

Disgusted and shaken, the woman deleted all the photographs from the phone, fearing they could be sent to other paedophiles.

She threw Doy out of her Holderness home and called the police.

Officers searched the house and seized his mobile phone and tablet computer, on which they found 4,500 indecent images and films of children, 12 of which were of his partner’s young daughter, and one extreme pornographic image of a person having sexual intercourse with a dog.

Anil Murray, for Doy, said his client, who now lives in Alden Close, Immingham, in North Lincolnshire, had been suffering with depression since the death of his mother.

He said he had started looking at adult porn but had then become “obsessed or addicted” to indecent images of children.

Mr Murray said: “There is a sense he can change his admitted feelings.

“It is a hopeful scene for the future and it may mean he is amenable to education.

“He is ashamed and embarrassed and he wants to avoid offending in the future.

“He is described as low risk.”

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, who remanded Doy in custody while he considered the punishment, told him: “Your crimes are absolutely disgusting and revolting to all right-minded individuals.”

Convicted paedophile caught with child abuse images ‘again’

wey

A child abuse images pervert caught with almost 1,000 indecent pictures has breached an order to keep him off the internet.

Robert William Weymouth, 72, was jailed in 2008 after admitting having pictures including images showing children being abused by adults.

A court also imposed an order prohibiting Weymouth, who uses a mobility scooter, from accessing the internet unless police fit a monitoring device.

But Weymouth, who lives at John Street in Caldewgate, Carlisle, was brought before magistrates after buying an internet-enabled mobile phone.

He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

The court heard he bought the phone between December 20 and 22.

Julie Hansel, prosecuting, said Weymouth could not get the phone to work so he asked someone, who knew of his case, to help.

This person then called police about a possible breach and Weymouth was arrested.

Keith Thomas, defending, said Weymouth should have contacted the police about his new phone, but it was a weekend. Mr Thomas said Weymouth was intending to speak to the appropriate person on the Monday.

The court heard the order prevents Weymouth from accessing the internet unless the appropriate officer from Cumbria Police is notified.

He would fit a monitoring device to any equipment to make it “internet safe”.

Mr Thomas said Weymouth only had the phone a “relatively short time”.

The court was told Weymouth had hoped to use the new phone to contact his partner of a few years, who lives in the Philippines.

Mr Thomas added Weymouth’s eyesight is failing and he wanted a phone with a larger font to make reading easier.

Weymouth was given a community punishment, including a two-month 7pm until 7am curfew. He was told to pay £85 court costs.

In 2008 he was sentenced to eight months in prison and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

Child abuse image’s man sent to prison

tib

A man has been jailed for two years after admitting a string of offences related to indecent images of children.

Tibor Banfi, of West Cliff, Preston, admitted four counts of possessing indecent images of children, and a further eight of making indecent images on his laptop.

The 39-year-old changed his pleas to guilty in a hearing at Preston Crown Court.

The court heard some of the offences relate to a period between September 2013 and January 2014.

They involve both still pictures and movie clips of youngsters – with different levels of seriousness.

It is understood Banfi was arrested after the collection of indecent material was discovered on his Toshiba laptop.

The judge, His Honour Judge Andrew Woolman, imposed a two year jail term after briefly adjourning the case to consider the gravity of the images.

Anthony O’Shea – Dungarvan

I feel cheated. He got 18 months for the things he did yet I got a life sentence

A MAN who was molested as a child by a family friend said last night he will go on hunger strike outside the Department of Justice unless his abuser’s sentence is increased.

Victim Dan is angry that the man was sentenced to only 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to a number of sex offences last month.

And he is even more incensed that Anthony O’Shea, from Dungarvan, Co Waterford has been promised a review of his sentence after three months.

“When I heard the sentence I was absolutely gutted,” he said. “I felt I was totally deprived of justice. He got 18 months and I have had a life sentence imposed on me because of what he did.”

He was just 10 years old when the abuse began in 1981.

Anthony O’Shea lived next door to Dan and was “trusted by everyone”.

But the youngster was not to know that on the day he called him in to his house he would start molesting him and continue a litany of abuse for almost four years.

“He called me in and showed me pornographic magazines and playing cards with women on them,” Dan said.

“I told no-one what had happened to me because I was afraid.

“I turned to drink because when I was drunk the memories faded, but of course they always returned when I was sober, so I drank more.

“I became an alcoholic and I found it difficult to have a relationship with anyone.

“The only relief I got from the abuse was when I was sent to St Michael’s Child Care Centre. I found the staff fair but strict,” he added.

He was sent to the centre when he was 11 because of truancy and said when he returned home O’Shea “took up where he had left off” and the abuse continued.

“He never threatened me physically but he was very over- powering.

“I became very depressed and I tried to kill myself at least 10 times.

“I tried all different methods but mainly I overdosed,” explained Dan, who left school when he was 15.

“I could not form relationships with anyone, even my family,” he added.

He said he kept his secret hidden until he was 26 when he was sent for alcoholism treatment to Tabor Lodge in Cork, where he met a Garda running a counselling course.

He “opened up his heart to him” and was advised to report the matter to Dungarvan Gardai, which he did.

“It was a great relief to me and I felt a burden was lifted. O’Shea admitted what he did and I was delighted that the case was going to court and that he would go to prison,” he said.

But, he added, he was ” absolutely gutted” when he learned of the 18- month sentence handed down last month by Waterford Circuit Criminal Court.

“There were tears in my eyes when I realised that he was going to be back home in a few months,” he said.

“He offered to pay the £1,100 which was still outstanding for the counselling I received for my addiction, but I did not want his money and I turned him down.

“I am very angry and I have vowed to do all I can to highlight my case and ensure he gets a longer sentence.”

Dan said he has written to Justice Minister John O’Donoghue, the DPP and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern but claimed he has heard nothing from any of them.

“I feel I have to take matters in my own hands.

“I intend chaining myself to the gates outside the Department of Justice in Dublin and going on hunger strike next week.

“The government should sit down and listen listen to what victims of sexual abuse like myself have to say,” he added.

Ronald Wiener – Woking/Margate/Thanet

Paedophile housemaster groomed pupil at former Laleham School in Margate in 1980s

A former pupil of a Thanet school – sexually abused by a housemaster in the 1980s – has finally got justice after fearing “the b*****d had got away with it”.

But now a judge has heard that paedophile Ronald Wiener’s vile activities could have been stopped earlier.

A teacher at the former Laleham School in Northdown Way, Margate – where Wiener was paid to care for youngsters – raised her concerns but was told she was “sick” and “effectively told to shut up”.

It was only three years ago when former pupils began discussing their experiences at the boarding school – which cared for children with special needs – that police were finally alerted.

The victim revealed to a pal how he had been abused by Wiener but “thought the b*****d had got away with it.”

In the interim, the 66-year-old pervert had moved to a school in Woking and was convicted in 1999 of molesting three boys – including one during a camping trip to Thanet – and was later given probation.

Wiener – who has lived in Gwynedd for many years – pleaded guilty to indecent assault and indecency with children and has been finally sent to prison for 21 months.

Judge Heather Norton said that had charges been brought under new tougher sex assault laws, he could have faced a maximum 14-year jail term.

She told the disgraced housemaster, who now suffers from diabetes. arthritis of the spine, high blood pressure, varicose veins and cataracts: “You were in a position of responsibility and trust and your victim was, in my belief, vulnerable.

“The care and attention you showed your victim wasn’t selfless. It was grooming. You took advantage of your position.”

Prosecutor Oliver Duncan told Canterbury Crown Court that Wiener was tracked down through an old school photograph – which was later shown to the judge.

He added: “He was standing at the back of the picture with blond or gingery coloured hair, quite short and stocky, wearing glasses and sporting a beard.”

The prosecutor told the court that a teacher, Linda Telfer made a statement to police telling of her concerns at that time at seeing a book (in the school) with indecent photographs of young boys.

He added: “She made a complaint at the time and without going into enormous detail , she was effectively told to shut up, that her allegations were sick and she should keep them to herself.”

The victim would later reveal how Wiener – who lived on the premises – had invited him to his room “to perform on him”.

Mr Duncan said the child’s ordeal would sometimes last up to two hours and happened over a prolonged period of time.

Wiener was arrested two years ago and questioned by police and admitted knowing the victim but denied having any sexual contact with him.

“During the interview he became quite animated and angry and denied the allegations although after being reminded of his 1999 convictions, admitted he was, and always had been, sexually attracted to boys.

“He claimed he had been targeted by the victim and that the allegations were a lie.”

But after the jury had been sworn in, Wiener changed some of his pleas to guilty – and a third charge, which he denied, was ordered to be left on the file.

John O’Higgins, defending, said Wiener was now living in rented accommodation on the North Wales coast, living on a state and two small private pensions.

“He has some insight into his proclivity and has lived with these desires since he was 15. He did not choose to have those desires and he has struggled, often successfully, to control them.

“He knows full well how offences like these are treated inside prison and he is terrified of the reception he will get.”

After the hearing, head teacher of Laleham Gap School, Keith Mileham, said: “We are aware of the charges brought against a former residential child care worker, Ronald Wiener, which relate to offences committed during the 1980s.

“We would like to reassure parents and carers that there have been many improvements made to safeguarding practices during the last 30 years.

“At Laleham Gap we take our safeguarding responsibilities for the safe recruitment of suitable staff very seriously. Our safeguarding procedures are kept up to date and followed at all times.

“Safeguarding checks are carried out on all staff before they begin working at the school and are kept up to date during their employment.

“The school and residential unit are inspected by Ofsted annually. Kent County Council and The National Children’s Society also carry out inspections, these are all unannounced and take place each term.

“We are rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and in the March report it noted ‘Robust safeguarding systems are diligently implemented and residential pupils reside in a safe and secure environment’.”

Four years in jail for paedophile pensioner… with victims as young as seven

ec

An Urmston pensioner has been jailed for four years for a string of historic sex crimes against young girls – one who was just seven.

Edward Calderbank, of Jack Lane, pleaded guilty to the 13 charges of indecent assaults and four counts of indecency with a child.

At Minshull Street Crown Court today the 65-year-old was handed down the four year sentence and made to sign the sex offender register for life.

The charges relate to incidents in the 1970s and early 1980s during which Calderbank indecently assaulted three young girls.

One victim was abused over a number of years from the age of around 11, with the perpetrator assaulting the child and performing sex acts in front of her.

Another was assaulted at a similar age, while the last was abused by Calderbank from the age of around seven.

Detective Constable Nicola Graham said: “The victims have been carrying the abuse they suffered around with them for decades but I hope that now he has been exposed as a child sex offender and brought to justice for his heinous crimes that weight has been lifted.

“Calderbank indecently and repeatedly abused three young, innocent children, robbing them of their childhood and innocence.”

Detective Constable Graham added: “Thanks to their courage in speaking out, justice has been served and I want to stress that GMP has specially trained officers on hand to investigate historic offences like this regardless of how much time has passed.

Pervert who hid naked behind bins before attacking teenage girl jailed for five years

Daniel-Patel

A vile sex beast who staked out his target behind bins before charging at the 17-year-old and sexually assaulting her has been jailed for five years.

Daniel Patel, 26, from Harrow, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault at Harrow Crown Court in October and was sentenced yesterday.

The girl was walking alone along Hunter Grove in Harrow, north-west London in June when she noticed a naked man standing behind bins

She crossed the road to avoid him and continued on walking but he ran up behind her and pulled her to the ground.

While the terrified woman lay there screaming, the man stood over her and performed an indecent sexual act before running off as members of the public came to the victim’s aid.

Police were called and found the naked man hopping over gardens. He tried to fight off officers but was arrested after cops used CS spray.

Detective Constable Janine Stevenson said: “Patel’s disturbing and predatory behaviour that day resulted in a young woman being left traumatised and haunted by what happened to her.

“His attack was fuelled by drugs and his own selfish desire for sexual gratification.

“Patel’s selfishness has continued by subjecting the victim and her family to months of upset and anxiety before eventually admitting to the court what he did that day.”

Patel was also found guilty of two arson charges involving setting light to parked cars in Harrow.

Pervert jailed for 10 years for sexually abusing two youngsters after secrets of dark past caught up with him

dum

A FORMER Downend man convicted of sexually abusing two youngsters has been jailed for ten years. Phillip Dummigan and his wife left the UK for a new life farming in New Zealand, Bristol Crown Court heard.

But the secrets of a dark past caught up with him after two complainants told police he had touched them improperly.

Dummigan, 54, denied wrongdoing but a jury convicted him of seven sexual abuse charges.

Three charges related to one girl when she was aged eight to ten while four charges concerned a second girl when she was aged five 12.

Dummigan sat facing away from a packed public gallery as Judge Martin Picton told him: “Both victims have been damaged and suffered long-term consequences.

For them your crimes have produced a life sentence.”

Dummigan touched both his victims’ private parts, the court heard.

Kenneth Bell, prosecuting, called one of the complainants to the witness box to read the judge her victim impact statement.

With a clear and calm voice she said: “I tried to warn police and social services. I’ve been called a liar. I’ve been humiliated. I’ve had to disclose matters which are so disgusting I could not bear to speak. I’ve had to carry horrible, dirty memories around while he was free to re-offend. He’s never shown any mercy. He’s never shown any remorse.

Mr Bell read a statement from the second victim, who stated the abuse affected several relationships she had over the years.

Catherine Stock, defending, said: “He continues to maintain his innocence. He has had three months to consider his position.

“His wife is in New Zealand and they are in touch by phone when allowed. He has lost his freedom, his home and his business. He will simply have to get on with it.”

Dummigan was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was barred from working with children and vulnerable people.

Tipton man with child abuse images spared jail so he can receive ‘treatment’

A 64-year-old man found with child abuse images on his computer has been spared jail so that he can receive treatment.

The 40 indecent images of children found on the computer of John Harrison included four of the worst kind, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

The discovery was made in a police swoop following a tip off in August 2013 but the case had been delayed by the long backlog of images to be examined by police experts due to a shortage of resources, it was said.

Harrison, from Geneva Road, Tipton, who was of previous good character, had admitted having fantasies about children, said Mr David Lees, prosecuting.

The defendant admitted two charges of downloading indecent images of children between December 2004 and August 2013.

Harrison was given a three-year community order which will involve him completing the community sex offender group programme.

He was also put on the sex offender register for five years and told to pay £350 costs.

Judge Robin Onions told him efforts would be made to rehabilitate him.

“You could not complain if you received a short custodial sentence which would probably be counted in months. No rehabilitative work is done in prison and you would come out as you went in with your beliefs unchallenged,” Judge Onions told him.

“The community sex offender programme takes three years to complete and has a good record of making people confront what they have done.

“Whilst punishment is important, protection of the public is even more so and I believe they will be better protected by this community punishment.”

Judge Onions concluded: “The number of images involved was very low when compared with other cases of this kind, you were of good character and it is a matter of regret that it took so long for the computer hard drive to be examined, although that is not through any fault of the police. It is the result of a lack of resources.”

Child rapist who filmed abuse of girls told police: ‘Just shoot me’

A child rapist who filmed his abuse of two young girls told police: “Just take me out and shoot me”.

Michael Harris preyed on his victims, one aged just two, at his family home in Dunfermline, Fife.

The 60-year-old account manager was caught when a colleague found a video clip on a memory stick belonging to Harris.

Police eventually uncovered a hoard of more than 275,000 indecent photos and film that Harris had stored.

The first offender is now behind bars after he pled guilty to rape, abuse and indecent images charges at the High Court in Glasgow.

Father-of-two Harris showed no emotion as he was led handcuffed to the cells to await sentencing next month.

The court heard how the abuse was discovered in September last year after Harris offered a work-friend a loan of his USB stick.

The colleague later discovered a film saved on it of Harris at home abusing a young girl. This man immediately informed bosses before police were alerted.

Harris was detained at work leading to his home being searched. Prosecutor Martin Macari said officers discovered “an unusually high amount of indecent content”.

Some had been stored under names like “Alice in Wonderland” and “Playtime”. The court heard that Harris was seen in one clip raping a two year-old girl as she slept.

Other footage showed him abusing the same child when she was older up to the age of seven.

Harris also targeted another young girl at his home from when she was around three until she was eight.

He finally filmed a third child naked in the bath, starting when she was six months. But, the court heard there was “no footage of contact offending” with this girl.

Police found a total of 275,325 still indecent photos and 1252 video clips. These were a mixture of footage Harris had taken himself and others downloaded from the internet.

Harris initially denied to police being a paedophile before going on to claim he was “stupid”. He later went on to state: “Just take me out and shoot me.”

Asked why he had done “bad things”, Harris went on: “It is difficult to understand sometime. I’m just weird.”

Harris pled guilty to raping one girl and two charges of using lewd and libidinous practices against her between 2009 and 2014.

He also admitted to a further two allegations of lewd and libidinous conduct against the second girl between those dates.

Harris pled guilty to a separate charge under the Sexual Offences Act for filming the third girl in the bath.

He finally admitted two charges of having indecent images of children dating between 1996 and 2014.

Gordon Martin, defending, said: “He is devastated by his actions. He can only say sorry.” Lord Bannatyne deferred sentencing until next month for reports.

Stourbridge pensioner jailed for sex attacks on two primary school aged schoolgirls

shep

A STOURBRIDGE pensioner has been locked up for ten years for carrying out historical sex attacks on two young schoolgirls.

Robert Shepherd, of Westwood Avenue, Norton, had pleaded not guilty to four charges of rape when he appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court.

But after retiring to consider the evidence at the end of his trial, a jury convicted Shepherd on all four offences, which date back more than 45 years.

The jury were told the offences were carried out between 1968 and 1971 and his two victims had been aged 13 and under.

Judge Martin Walsh told the 66-year-old that he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and ruled the offences were so serious only a substantial prison sentence was appropriate.

Rachael Regan – Illingworth

Teaching assistant abused and bullied seven-year-old girl

ra

A West Yorkshire classroom assistant who bullied a seven-year-old pupil has been sentenced to JUST 40 hours of community service.

43-year-old Rachael Regan (pictured) of Cousin Lane, Illingworth carried out several incidents against the young girl at a school in Calderdale, including taping her to a chair and shutting her in a storeroom.

The trial heard how she carried out a catalogue of incidents against the child, including shutting her in a storeroom, tying her shoes on with string, sticking post-it notes on her thumbs, calling her a nickname, kicking her chair, goading her with a biscuit, hiding her doll and tearing up her photograph.

The jury watched footage of the girl’s police interview in which she said Regan was “not a very nice person”.

In the interview, the girl told police that Regan did not like her.

She said: “One thing about Class Seven is that Miss Regan doesn’t like me. Or Miss McD.”

She continued: “(Regan’s) not a very nice person. Because she likes everybody else except for me. I don’t know why she doesn’t like me.”

She added later: “She’s always nice to the other children in class but she’s always mean to me.”

When the police interviewer asked the girl how she felt about Regan, she replied: “Very, very, very angry.”

She said: “She’s not really nice because she’s always shouting at me.”

When she was asked about the incident in which Regan taped her to the chair, the girl told police she felt “angry” and said the whole class laughed at her.

She said: “They were all starting laughing and I didn’t like it.”

She also said Regan tied string around her shoes to keep them on.
“It was horrible,” she said.

The girl told the police she was not happy in that class and had better teachers in her new class.

A teacher at the school was cleared of the same offence at their trial last year.

Other staff members at the school told their trial they had witnessed some of the incidents.

One support assistant said the girl’s arms were “fastened down by her sides with the Sellotape around her more than once” and said she was taped to the chair for around 10 minutes.

The court had heard that the defendants denied ever bullying the girl- and described some of the incidents as “a joke”.

The girl’s mother also described the moment her seven-year-old daughter told her a teaching assistant had taped her to a chair as “heartbreaking”.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told Bradford Crown Court how the young girl “clung” to her “for dear life” with tears streaming down her face after the incident at school.

The girl’s mother told the jury that her “bubbly and outgoing” daughter started to make excuses to not go to school but she did not understand why.

She described the moment the girl, who is now nine-years-old, told her about being taped to the chair.

She said: “(My daughter) just came rushing out and hugged me and tears were just rolling down her face.

“It was just so heartbreaking to see her like that because (she) is so bubbly and outgoing and I have never seen my daughter so upset.

She just clung to me for dear life.”

In sentencing, Judge Davey told Regan: “You have been convicted by a jury of cruelty to a small child, in effect of bullying her to the extent that it would properly be described as cruelty.”

Judge Davey said the defendant had already lost the job she loved and would be barred from working with children.

He said: “You humiliated [the girl], you’ve already been professionally humiliated, now you’ve been publicly humiliated.”

Former Cub Scout leader and Sunday school teacher facing jail for sexual abuse of three boys

A former Cub Scout leader is facing jail for sexually abusing three young boys on camping trips over 40 years ago.

Jack Townsley, 86, abused his position of trust to use lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour towards the youngsters aged between nine and 13-years-old during the early 1970s.

Townsley, who was given the highest accolade in the Scouting Association, drove the boys to remote camping spots around Scotland where he inappropriately touched them.

The sunday school teacher was found guilty on Thursday after a four-day trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

The jury of 10 men and five women took under two hours to come to the majority verdict over the historic sex abuse.

Sheriff William Summers deferred sentence for reports but told the pensioner that he was likely facing jail and placed him on the sex offenders register.

He said: “The jury have found you guilty of three charges all involving historic sex abuse of boys in your care.

“These offences are appalling by any nature but they are even more so given that each of them involved a serious breach of trust.

“It is hard to imagine disposing of these cases other than by the imposition of a custodial sentence.”

Townsley, of Cumbernauld, went on trial on Monday accused of touching young boys on overnight camping trips across Scotland during the 1970s.

His victims were all involved with a Glasgow-based Cub pack.

The court heard Townsley had been in a position of trust with approximately 30,000 children over the course of his Scouting career which spanned four decades.

He earned the Scout Association’s prestigious Silver Wolf Award for “services of the most exceptional character”.

One of Townsley’s alleged victims told the court he had bottled up his feelings over the abuse for decades.

Townsley touched the boy when he was aged between 11 and 13 years old on an overnight fishing trip – unrelated to the Cubs.

He awoke in the middle of the night to find Townsley touching him.

The court heard the victim had never spoken of it to anyone but became angry when Townsley showed up to his father’s funeral several years ago and wanted to shake his hand.

When the Jimmy Saville sex scandal broke in late 2012 the man said realised that something needed to be done before elderly Townsley passed away.

An investigation was launched and officers took down the names of other boys who may have suffered abuse at the hands of the scout master.

This led to the discovery of more incidents involving boys aged between nine and 12 taking place in the early 1970s at various sites around Scotland – including one which took place on a Cub trip in Aberdeenshire.

A charge relating to a fourth alleged incident was found not proven by the jury yesterday.

Townsley denied the allegations. Giving evidence, he said the allegations were “conspiracy”, “collusion”, and a “pack of lies”.

He told police during an initial interview: “This has flabbergasted me but these things never happened. It’s not in my nature.”

Sentence was deferred until next month.

The Scout Association yesterday condemned Townsley’s actions. A spokesman said: “Townsley has not been involved in the Scout Movement since 2001.

“We can confirm that he will never again be allowed to work within the Scout Movement.”

Sex abuser took “selfies” while assaulting sleeping victim

Robert Rutten

A MAN who sexually abused a woman as she slept and took pictures of the acts on his mobile phone has been jailed for more than four years.

Robert Rutten, 50, had admitted three counts of sexual assault and one of assault by penetration, as well as three counts of possessing indecent images of children – including one in the most serious category – and one of possessing extreme pornographic images involving a dog.

Prosecutor Simon Jones told Bournemouth Crown Court that Rutten had taken a “selfie” photograph of himself alongside his sleeping victim, an adult woman, before taking other pictures of her in various states of undress and while touching her sexually.

The offences took place in 2012 and 2013.

Jailing Rutten for four years and eight months, Judge John Harrow said: “This was dirty, perverted behaviour.

“This poor lady had the humiliation of having to inspect these photographs of her private parts with police in the course of the investigation.”

Mr Jones said the victim was having trouble trusting “people in general” as a result of the offences.

He said the indecent images were discovered when police officers checked a memory stick from his home, while the extreme pornography was in the form of two “Polaroid” photographs which “appeared to have been taken in the early 1980s”.

The court heard Rutten had no previous convictions for sexual offences, but a lengthy record which included assault occasioning actual bodily harm, burglary, drink driving, battery and possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

In mitigation, Brian Sharman said his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, and that while his offences had been humiliating for the victim when the images were found, there had been no deliberate attempt to humiliate her at the time they were committed.

Rutten, from Suffolk Road, Bournemouth, was ordered to sign the sexual offenders’ register indefinitely and a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was imposed controlling his access to the internet and devices with recording equipment.

Plymouth pensioner convicted of sexually assaulting girl

almond

A PENSIONER has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl at his home – sending her sobbing into the street.

Barry Almond, aged 77, denied indecently touching the youngster but was found guilty after a trial at Plymouth Crown Court.

The court heard that the girl ran into the street in tears, before she was helped by a stranger.

Almond, of St Peter’s Road, Manadon, claimed he never touched the girl and had no idea why she ran from his house.

He admitted he could think of no reason why the teenager would make up the allegation.

But a jury found him guilty following a trial which stretched over three days.

The panel convicted him by an 11 to one majority verdict following just over five hours of deliberations.

Almond showed little reaction when the foreman announced the decision.

Recorder Stephen Parish said he deserved a prison sentence, but said he could suspend it because of his previous good character, his age and poor health.

Almond, who uses a walking frame, has a host of health problems including diabetes and arthritis. He has also suffered a heart attack since the sexual assault in June, 2009.

The judge told Almond: “The young girl has the satisfaction of knowing she has been believed by the jury.

She will know that, if this case gets any publicity, it will be you who is named and shamed.

“The whole world now knows the truth. You have been convicted by this jury on what seemed to me overwhelming evidence of sexual assault.”

The judge said that Almond had taken photographs of the girl in his bedroom as an excuse to “leer” at her.

He said the pensioner then took his chance to grope the girl.

Michael Green, in mitigation for Almond, said the incident “seems to have been a one-off.”

He added no other girls had come forward to make allegations.

Mr Green said his poor health made unpaid work impossible.

Recorder Parish handed Almond a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He will remain on the sex offender register for life.

Almond must also pay £500 towards the costs of his trial.

The judge thanked Almond’s relatives and those of the girl for the restraint they showed in court.

The jury was told that Almond touched her beneath her clothing and then tried to kiss her on June 20, 2009.

She added he persuaded her to lie on his bed before she “came to her wits” and left the bedroom.

She said she had “freaked out”, ran from the house into Manadon, finding herself outside the Morrisons store in Outland Road.

She added she was crying and the stranger asked her what was wrong.

The woman took her to her home nearby and let use her phone to call home, the court heard.

The jury heard she had run from the house in such a hurry she had not brought her own mobile.

The girl told members of her family, but did not go to the police until early last year.

Convicted paedophile back in court after breaching SOPO

A CONVICTED sex offender who failed to notify police he had a passport has been fined £300 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Thomas Marshall, 67, was supposed to declare to police within three days that he had a passport to comply with the terms of the Sex Offenders Register.

The former postman was jailed for three years in 2008 for having sex with a 15-year-old boy in an Edinburgh park and also being in possession of more than 1,000 depraved photographs of children at a house in Peebles after police cracked an international paedophile ring.

Some of the disturbing images found on Marshall’s computer featured sexual abuse of babies.

He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Defence lawyer Iain Burke said his client had not read the information properly about handing in the passport and explained Marshall’s mind “had been in a blur” following his conviction. He added: “He did not intend to hide the fact he had a passport and never used it.”

The offence came to light last February when information about his passport was received and police visited his home in Rennie Court, Kelso.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said it was a serious matter but accepted the explanation and imposed a fine

Plymouth amphetamine addict turned to indecent child images

A MAN downloaded hundreds of indecent images of children as he spiralled into drug use after splitting with his wife.

Amphetamine addict Michael James Cooper, aged 35, was caught with nearly 500 depraved pictures on his computer, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

Judge Paul Darlow handed him a 16-month prison sentence, but suspended it for two years.

He told Cooper: “A moment’s clear-headed thinking would have shown that the children are being robbed of their innocence and their childhood.

“The psychological problems being stored up in the long-term are unimaginable.”

Cooper, a former assistant shop manager, must do an internet sex offenders treatment course.

Cooper, formerly of Valletort Road, Stoke, pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecent images of children on July 30.

The ex-assistant shop manager also admitted possession of three extreme pornographic images and a small amount of amphetamine.

Andrew Maitland, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said police seized a laptop computer at Cooper’s home.

He added they found he had downloaded 476 movies and still images over about six to seven weeks.

The court heard that 213 pictures were in the most depraved category.

Mr Maitland said internet search terms betrayed his interest in indecent images.

Edward Bailey, for Cooper, said he had a long-term amphetamine habit and relapsed into using the drug again after splitting from his wife.

He added: “He was so high on amphetamine and depressed at the time he cannot give any sensible explanation as to why he viewed this filth on the internet.”

Bur Mr Bailey accepted he had some underlying interest in the material.

He said he had been evicted from his home and had lost his job as the assistant manager of a store in Plymstock’s Ridgeway.

The court heard he was now staying with a friend in Pentamar Street, Stoke.

Paedophile jailed for sex offences against young boys in 1970s and 1980s

A paedophile has been jailed for sexually abusing young boys in the 1970s and 1980s.

Charles Worth, 65, previously known as David Berry, was sentenced to four years in prison for five counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child.

He abused the three boys at his home in Raynes Park as well as at the Modern swimming baths and a location in Wallington, Scotland Yard said.

He was arrested in February this year after getting off a flight at Gatwick Airport.

He was found guilty of the offences after a trial at Croydon Crown Court but was cleared of sexual assault and gross indecency.

DC Darren Raishbrook, who led the investigation, appealed for other potential victims of Worth’s “predatory” behaviour to speak to police.

He said: “Worth was a predatory paedophile who targeted his victims, subjecting them to repeated sexual abuse.

“I commend the bravery of the victims in coming forward and reliving their ordeal and hope today’s sentence goes some way to providing them with some closure, whilst reassuring others that we are committed to pursuing those responsible for such crimes, regardless of the passage of time.”

Paedophile groomed Northamptonshire boy and made him perform sex acts

A paedophile has admitted grooming a Northamptonshire boy into performing sex acts and making indecent images of children.

Andrew Bolderson entered guilty pleas to eight charges under the Sexual Offences Act at Northampton Crown Court yesterday, five of which related to the abuse of a boy from Daventry.

The 28-year-old, from Hemel Hempsted, admitted inciting the boy to carry out a number of sex acts and to making images indecent images of children, one of which was in the highest category of severity.

He admitted a charge of grooming the Daventry child and to a charge of causing a boy under the age of 13 to be involved in pornography.

He also admitted a charge of making the same child look at an image of a person engaging in sexual activity for his own gratification.

Recorder Roger Egbuna adjourned sentencing until Monday, February 16, so psychiatric reports could be drawn up about Bolderson.

The defendant, who spoke only to confirm his name and enter his guilty pleas, will remain on remand until then.

The recorder also told the defendant: “You are now subject to the Sex Offenders Register. You will know in more detail about the length of the order when sentencing is dealt with.”
