Man jailed for sex attacks on schoolgirl

A Leamington man arranged to meet a girl he had met in a friends taxi, despite being told she was under-age, and took part in sex acts with her in a park

The encounter has now cost Allan Morris his liberty after he was jailed for three years by a judge at Warwick crown court and ordered to register as a sex offender for life

Morris, aged 38, of Crown Way, Lillington, had denied a charge of sexual activity with a child, claiming he believed the child was over 21 years old, but changed his plea to guilty on the day of the trial

Prosecutor Tim Sapwell said the girl, who was 15 but had the educational age of an eight-year-old, was befriended by Morris after a chance meeting in a taxi

Although he had a job as a cleaner, Morris would travel with a driver he knew, just for the company, and was with him when the girl and her grandmother were passengers

They struck up a conversation and after that there was some contact between them via Facebook after he added her as a ‘friend’

Mr Sapwell pointed out that although the girl had not disclosed her age, Morris was aware of the child’s learning difficulties

They then arranged to meet outside a shop, and after the girl had been into Leamington town centre with a friend and her friends mother, she failed to return home.

Her concerned mother called the other woman, who had assumed she had gone home, to ask if she knew where the child was

So the child’s friend’s mother went to the shops near her home to look for the girl, and saw her walking past with Morris

When she called her name, the girl looked worried and Morris walked off in the opposite direction

The girl said Morris had carried out sexual acts on her in the park.

The girl was interviewed by police and said he had asked her if he could do so, and although she had not wanted it to happen, she had not said no

Jailing Morris, recorder Simon Ward also imposed a sexual offences prevention order banning him from having or seeking contact with any child under 16 years old for a period of 10 years

Doncaster paedophile, aged 91, jailed for two years

bert

A 91-year-old man – believed to be one of Britain’s oldest paedophiles – has been jailed for two years for a series of sex attacks on a little girl.

The frail pensioner, who was pushed into Sheffield Crown Court in a wheelchair, was flanked by three prison guards as he admitted his crimes which date back to the 1970s.

Alison Dorrell, prosecuting, said Bertram Jacob first sexually abused the girl when she was aged five and continued to do so until she was 13.

Jailing him, Judge Peter Kelson said: “For a 10-year period on many occasions you satisfied your own perverted sexual lusts.

“She has suffered the effects ever since. She is an ongoing victim.” The court heard the former soldier was in poor health and, after a bout of pneumonia 18 months ago, was put into a nursing home. He is looked after by carers who visit him four times a day.

Miss Dorrell said the girl was just five when he began to indecently assault her and perform sex acts.

She said the victim, who is now married with two children, has been ‘damaged’ for life.

In a statement read in court the victim said she did not report the abuse, because she was scared she would not be believed.

She said: “I carried this secret for a long time.”

Miss Dorrell said: “She was innocent. She became fearful of going to his house.
“She felt fearful of telling her mother and felt her mother blamed her and didn’t speak to the authorities.”

The victim continued: “As I got older I felt dirty and ashamed and found it hard to form relationships with males.”

The court heard it was only when she met her long-term partner and had two children of her own she was able to confide.

Miss Dorrell said: “When her own daughter became seven in 2006 she broke down physically and mentally. She could not work and began counselling which continues to this day.”

Jacob, of Rose Grove, Armthorpe, Doncaster, was supported by two relatives in court.

He admitted nine offences of indecent assault and nine of gross indecency.

Edward Moss, mitigating, said the offences passed the custody threshold, but he was 91, wheelchair-bound and in poor health.

Mr Moss said: “His GP says custody will have an effect on him but it is difficult to say what that effect would be.”

He said Jacob had expressed remorse for his crimes, adding: “At his age and level of infirmity he poses no threat for the future.

“He has made some peace for himself through his religion and is truly sorry and ashamed.”

The court heard Jacob had written a letter in which he had apologised.

Sentencing him, Judge Kelson said the victim had suffered physically and mentally and needed counselling.

He said the offences were ‘grave in the extreme’.

He said: “I don’t know whether your victim has found it possible to forgive you.

“What I’m aware of is the terrible suffering she has incurred as a result of this.
“The victim was entirely at your mercy for this period of time. It was a prolonged, sustained set of assaults.

“It was degradation and humiliation although in her innocence she didn’t realise what was going on. There was a significant degree of planning and organisation.”

Edgbaston paedophile targeted 13-year-old girl at city bus stop

Steven Bolton

A “depraved” paedophile has been jailed for a sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl at a city bus stop.

Twisted Steven Bolton, aged 63, was already the subject of a sexual offences prevention order for an attack on a girl aged just nine when he struck again in Acocks Green.

Birmingham Crown Court heard how the loner approached the teen three times on different mornings as she waited for her school bus on the Avenue in April and May.

On the second occasion he hugged the terrified girl and groped her before leaving as her bus arrived.

Jailing him for two-years-and-four-months, His Honour Judge Abbas Mithani told Bolton: “You are a dangerous paedophile.

“You pose a significant risk of serious harm to the public by the commission of further offences of this type.”

As well as the jail sentence, Bolton, of Carpenter House, Edgbaston, was made subject to an extended three year licence period.

Adam Western, prosecuting, said the predator has previous convictions for sexual offences from 1974 and then again in 2004.

On that occasion he sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl and was jailed for 18 months and placed on an extended licence.

He had also breached his licence in 2007 and 2010, once by talking to a 16-year-old girl in a supermarket.

Nicola Purchase, defending, said Bolton had no family or friends and said he was totally isolated.

She added: “He has no previous relationships with women, very little contact with family and no friends.

“He feels remorse and he would wish to express that through me to the court and to all of the people involved in this unfortunate matter.”

However Judge Mithani rejected Bolton’s apology saying: “I am afraid I am unable to accept your expressions of remorse and regret.

“I find it inconceivable after everything I have heard about you that you are capable of feeling remorseful for your awful conduct.

“It is plain she was absolutely traumatised by what happened to her.

“You targeted her in order to satisfy your depraved sexual desires.

“This was not an opportunistic offence committed on the spur of the moment, there was a degree of planning.

“The only reason you stopped the offence was because you were disturbed by the arrival of her bus.”

Sports coach who abused children continued working at Newcastle school despite admitting attraction to young boys

lewis

A self-confessed paedophile continued working in a school despite seeking medical help for a sexual attraction to young boys.

Lewis Nainby was told to leave a local junior football club, where he worked as a coach, after two boys reported being abused during a trip in the mid-1980s and Nainby sought psychiatric help, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Nainby, 74, who was a sports coach at Seaton Burn High, admitted the assaults which took place in the 1980s and the court was told how he referred himself to a psychiatrist for help over his sexual attraction to young boys after the abuse was uncovered.

During the trip Nainby had awoken a teenage boy while touching his genitals, a Judge was told.

The boy gathered his belongings and ran from the room reporting the incident a member of club staff.

After the trip parents were informed and Nainby was asked to leave the club.

However, despite parents and Seaton Burn High being aware of allegations facing Nainby no criminal complaint was made.

After retiring Nainby worked as a volunteer football coach and exam invigilator on a casual basis at the school.

A spokesman for Seaton Burn College said: “Lewis Nainby was a volunteer football coach and exam invigilator on a casual basis.

“On the day the allegations were made he was immediately suspended by school principal Alison Shaw and he has not been in the school since or had any contact with the pupils.”

Nainby pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault in Newcastle Crown Court.

Sue Hirst, prosecuting, told the court how the abuse had occurred after he gained the trust of parents and youngsters while working as a coach.

Nainby, of Southward, Seaton Sluice, had abused two boys on a number of occasions asking them if they would like to sit on his knee and drive his car.

Ms Hirst told the court Nainby’s victims waited almost 30 years to speak out about their concerns after they learned he was still coaching youngsters in May 2013.

Katherine Dunn, representing Nainby, told the court he had not re-offended since his psychiatric treatment in 1985 and had dedicated his life to charity work, working with a hospice in the North East.

She said he had an ‘old fashioned’ attitude towards his sexuality and had committed the acts while ‘at a low ebb’.

Judge Deborah Sherwin, passing sentence, said: “You had been seen the showers wrapped in a towel but it’s not clear to me whether any adults were made aware at that stage of your actions.

“We’ve seen reference to your medical records, in October 1985 you sought help and we were also told you have told those about you of the allegations, and stopped being a football coach at the time but you continued to be employed by the school until your retirement.”

Nainby was handed a two year jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

He will also have to take part in the sex offenders treatment programme.

Leeds pervert jailed for abusing and making 13 yr old schoolgirl pregnant

Shohaib Mumtaz

A MAN who got a 13-year-old girl pregnant has been jailed over a series of sexual offences committed against three teenage victims.

Shohaib Mumtaz, 24, was given a sentence of seven years, nine months after being found guilty of five offences of sexual activity with a child following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.

Mumtaz also pleaded guilty to three offences of sexual activity with a child and one of causing a child to watch sexual activity.

The court heard Mumtaz, of Westcombe Avenue, Roundhay, was aged 22 when he got the 13-year-old school girl pregnant.

The youngster had the pregnancy terminated after telling her parents.

The court heard Mumtaz then continued to meet the girl and have sexual contact with her.

Mumtaz also committed offences against two other teenage girls.

One victim was made to watch him carry out a sexual act as he spoke to her via a webcam. The other victim was subjected to sexual touching. Mumtaz also committed sexual offences after being arrested and released on bail.

The three victims all had to re-live their ordeals by giving evidence during the trial.

The teenager who became pregnant by Mumtaz described how he would use her like a “chattel”.

Mumtaz was also told he must go on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

Jailing Mumtaz, judge Rodney Jameson, QC, said: “The aggravating feature is (the victim’s) pregnancy. To make a 13-year-old child pregnant is a terribly, terribly serious crime.”

Det Chief Insp Mark Griffin, of Leeds District Safeguarding Unit, said: “Shohaib was responsible for a number of sexual offences against vulnerable child victims who he treated with utter contempt.

“Specialist safeguarding officers worked hard to support the victims and engage with them, which secured the evidence required to convict him.

“The victims were extremely brave in giving evidence throughout this case.

“We hope the sentence he has received will send out a clear message to anyone who thinks they can commit offences of this nature without having to face serious consequences.”

Ecclesbourne School teacher guilty of downloading indecent images

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

A MATHS teacher from Ecclesbourne School has been convicted of downloading indecent images of children while employed by the academy.

Neil Barratt – who admitted possessing seven images and 14 movies, including ones from the most extreme category – has been put on a three-year community sex offenders’ programme.

A court heard how the 43-year-old was “visibly shaken” when police arrived to search his home while he was employed at the school, in Wirksworth Road, Duffield, almost seven months ago.

It was told that, as well as the indecent images – which featured children aged 10 to 14 – officers discovered 31 images of extreme pornography on Barratt’s computer, which was found in a loft room of his house in Rutland Avenue, Matlock.

The school has now sent letters to the parents of pupils who attend the school. They received the letters from the headmaster, James McNamara, who informed them of Barratt’s conviction and subsequent dismissal.

In the letter, Mr McNamara said that Barratt was suspended as soon as the school received information from the police about his arrest. In addition, it stated: “We also want to reassure you that the charges do not relate to Mr Barratt’s work at the school.”

Among parents who received the letter was Rachel McLean, whose son Cameron, 18, attends the school. She said: “When I started reading the letter I thought: ‘Oh my God, this is awful.’ It’s shocking.”

Sentencing Barratt, at Derby Crown Court sitting at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, Judge Jonathan Gosling said: “Many people who sit in front of a computer in the middle of the night and look at these vile images don’t think they are doing anything wrong. The reason these offences are so serious is because people like you provide the demand.”

He said the children grew up to know that these images could never be deleted and so continued to suffer for years afterwards.

Judge Gosling continued: “It’s more alarming in your case because you were employed as a teacher at the academy and one can only imagine what parents must be thinking – he looks at images and then teaches children, much the same age, the next day.”

But, he said, the school had “carefully examined” Barratt’s position at work and had thankfully found no signs to show he had moved towards abusing children.

In conclusion, Judge Gosling said: “I don’t think you pose a serious risk to any child and properly managed you will be unlikely to reoffend.”

He gave Barratt a three-year community order, with 100 hours of unpaid work.

Barratt, now of St John’s Way, Sandbach, Cheshire, was banned for life from working with children and he must obey a sexual offences prevention order and be on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Sarah Brown, for Barratt, said: “He is deeply ashamed that he has committed these offences and has tried to reconcile in himself why he behaved in such a way.”

She said a doctor assessing him had concluding that there was probably some link with the depression and anxiety he had been suffering at the time but this was probably not the only factor.

“He knows (that) why he committed these offences has not been answered yet and he is willing to work with services to get to the root cause of why he committed these offences,” said Miss Brown.

“And he is adamant that anything of these matters will not happen again.”

She said that, since being arrested, he had contacted the child sexual abuse prevention campaign Stop It Now! for help and had completed courses.

Man convicted of having indecent images of children caught for second time

A man who had been convicted of having indecent images of children was caught for a second time after asking the police to come to his home to attach a monitoring device to his new computer.

Johnathan Williamson, 31, from Clarke Way Watford, had been sentenced in June last year for possessing child abuse images.

He was given a three year Community Order along with a five year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which banned him from accessing the internet unless the police installed software that recorded his browsing history.

St Albans crown court heard on Friday that he contacted the police himself at the start of December saying that he was getting a computer so that he could search the internet for jobs.

Prosecutor Peter Shaw said officers arrived to fix the risk management software on January 7.  While they were at the house Williamson tried to conceal a computer tower. He was asked if he had accessed the internet and he replied that he had to look for work.

When the computer was examined 71 indecent images were found – 13 at Category A, the highest level, 39 at B, and 19 at C, the lowest level.

Williamson admitted possessing indecent images of children, possessing a prohibited image in the form of a cartoon depicting a child having sexual activity and breaching the Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Victoria Ellis, defending, said the downloading of the images had happened on one occasion on January 2 when he had downed half a bottle of vodka and could not remember what he had done. She said he was very remorseful and was now working six days a week as a cleaner.

Judge Michael Baker QC told him it was a serious case and he had only just avoided a custodial sentence. He passed a six month jail term suspended for two years, with 18 months’ supervision. Williamson must attend a drink awareness programme for 60 days, carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work, pay £500 costs and £100 victim surcharge.

He told him: “You can be assured you will not get a further chance. Do you understand?”

Williamson replied: “Yes sir. Thank you.”

Hackney pair guilty of string of sexual offences against vulnerable teenage girls after grooming them online

Sex offences: Glenn Dyett and Colin Trotman (Picture: Essex Police)

Two men from Hackney have been found guilty of a string of sexual offences against vulnerable teenage girls after grooming them online.

Colin Trotman, 45, and Glenn Dyett, 56, targeted their victims on social networking sites before travelling to Southend to abuse them.

They sexually assaulted the girls, who police described as “naïve and troubled”, after plying them with alcohol and drugs during several visits to the seaside town in Essex between August and November 2012.

Basildon Crown Court heard the pair met the girls on the seafront and assaulted them in Trotman’s BMW if they refused to have sex with them.

They were arrested in February and June last year after three teenage girls alleged they had raped them.

Following a two-week trial which concluded on Friday, Trotman, of Wetherell Road, Hackney was convicted of rape and one count of sexual activity with a child. He was also found guilty of two counts of facilitating permission of child sex offences.

Dyett of Elderfield Road, Clapton was found guilty of three counts of sexual activity with a child.

DCI Simon Werrett, who led the investigation for Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “The two men are despicable characters who not only sexually exploited and assaulted these young girls, but refused to admit their guilt and forced their victims to go through the harrowing experience of giving evidence and reliving their nightmares.”

He continued: “These girls were vulnerable, alcohol-dependant, socially-active teenagers who were experiencing difficulties at home. They were naïve and troubled. At a time when society should have been letting them develop into young adults, two criminals appeared on the scene and targeted them; ruining their futures.

“We pay tribute to these young girls who had the courage to come forward and then give evidence at court, enabling these two men to be brought to justice. In doing so, the girls have protected others from being exploited by Trotman and Dyett.”

Uproar over convicted rapist on Facebook

sturmey

A CONVICTED rapist from Weymouth who was jailed for seven years has had his social media account removed after he was exposed on Facebook.

Richard Peter Sturmey was aged 20 when he was jailed in May 2011 for rape of a 16-year-old girl.

He was found guilty following a trial at Dorchester Crown Court, having already admitting three further charges of having sex with a girl under the age of 16.

Sturmey was jailed for six years for rape and a further year for the other offences and was also placed on the sex offenders register.

A message was posted on a Facebook page for selling items in the Weymouth,Portland and Dorchester area – describing itself as a ‘warning’ – with a picture showing a Facebook profile apparently set up by Sturmey and showing activity in the last week.

The message read: “Not for sale but a warning!!

“This is a convicted rapist.

“Richard Sturmey was sentenced to seven years in prison for rape and other sexual offence charges.

“He is apparently living in Westam, Weymouth.

“He shouldn’t have Facebook and is manipulating and dangerous.

“Do not accept his friend request. He is on the sex offenders’ register.

“Please share and warn people!!”

The post has attracted dozens of comments and a further comment by the original poster claims that, since it was posted, Sturmey’s page appears to have been removed and the only one now visible is a profile he had prior to his conviction.

A spokesman for Facebook confirmed that the profile had been removed.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said it was not able to comment on individual cases.

However, the spokesperson said police in Dorset work with other agencies to ‘discourage’ the use of social media by offenders.

It was stressed that Facebook would disable users who are found to have convictions for sexual offences.

The spokesman added: “It is not illegal for someone on the sex offenders’ register to have a Facebook page, however the social networking site will disable users who are found to have a history of sexual offences. “We actively work with partners such as the Probation Service to discourage the use of social media by offenders and monitor any accounts that come to our attention. “Should an offender be found using social media contravening the terms of their sentence, Dorset Police will take action.”

Weymouth rapist jailed: Richard Sturmey gets seven years in prison

stur

A MAN who raped a drunk teenage girl in his Weymouth flat has been jailed for seven years.

Richard Peter Sturmey, aged 20, was convicted of the sex attack on the 16-year-old girl following a trial at Dorchester Crown Court last month.

Before the trial he admitted three separate offences of having sex with a girl under the age of 16, which all related to another teenage girl.

David Richards, prosecuting, told the court that the 16-year-old girl was staying over at Sturmey’s flat in Carlton Road North on the night of June 15 last year and had been drinking to such an extent that she was sick before going to bed.

The girl woke in the night to find Sturmey standing over her and he forced himself upon her.

Mr Richards said: “He was perhaps affected by drink but was pretty well sober and had his wits about him.”

He added that there had been consensual kissing between Sturmey and the girl earlier in the evening but she had not consented to the sexual intercourse.

Mr Richards said the charges of having sex with a girl under the age of 16 related to another girl whom Sturmey first had sex with in January 2008, when she was 14 and Sturmey aged 17.

He said the three counts covered the pair having sexual encounters on a number of occasions up to her 16th birthday in December 2009.

Mark Ruffell, mitigating, said that since his conviction Sturmey had accepted his guilt on the rape charge and showed remorse for his actions. He said: “He has accepted the jury’s verdict and accepted that the evidence proved she didn’t agree to having sexual intercourse and due to her intoxicated state was not in a fit state to give her consent.”

Judge Roger Jarvis told the defendant: “These girls’ lives have been damaged dramatically by your actions and your actions have also fractured each of these young women’s relationship with their friends and families.”

Judge Jarvis sentenced Sturmey to six years in prison for the rape offence and a further year for the three offences of having sex with a girl under the age of 16.

A police officer has admitted a string of sex offences against a child.

Sergeant Nick Lidstone, 54, of Cambridgeshire Police, pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including sexual assault and taking indecent photographs of a child.

Appearing at Norwich Crown Court, he also admitted three counts of rape.

Sgt Lidstone, of Heslerton Way, Barrington, denied six further offences. He will return to the court for sentencing on 22 December.

The charges relate to alleged abuse between 1997 and 2014.

The three rape offences were said to have taken place when the victim was an adult.

Deputy Chief Constable Alec Wood, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: “This was an appalling crime where the victim was put through a horrendous ordeal over a prolonged period”.

‘Danger to the public’ – Serial rapist gets extended 10-year jail sentence

A 19 year old man who raped three women, has been given an extended prison sentence of 10 years.

Jordan Hubbock targeted vulnerable women and girls who he met through social media chat forums. One of his victims was from Hemel Hempstead.

After agreeing to meet him, Hubbock forced himself on his victims.

He raped a 15 year old girl who was in care, a 17 year old and a 21 year old woman in her home.

He assaulted another 17 year old girl, giving her a black eye, and he engaged in sexual activity with a 13 year old girl.

Hubbock, of Scottswood Close, Bushey, appeared for sentence at St Albans Crown Court on Friday, having been found guilty at the end of a trial of three counts of rape, assaulting the 17 year old girl occasioning her actual bodily harm and sexually activity with a child.

Deputy Circuit Judge Michael Baker QC was told the offences covered a two-year period from the end of 2011 through to 2013.

Passing sentence, the judge told Hubbock he had “banked” on his victims being too embarrassed to report him.

The judge told Hubbock he had embarked on a campaign to get his way with girls, often committing the offences when he was high on drink or drugs.

Judge Baker told Hubbock that he considered him to be a danger to the public and, for the protection of women, he was going to pass an extended sentence.

Hubbock received a 10-year jail term and was told he would have to serve two thirds of the sentence before being released on licence.

He was told the period he would remain on licence would also be extended.

Pervert past of millionaire who vanished from his yacht: Businessman was jailed for three years in 1995 for molesting boy

kinglen

A millionaire businessman who mysteriously vanished on his luxury yacht is a convicted paedophile, it emerged last night.

Leonard King had taken his 70ft Sunseeker on a cruise around the South Coast on Sunday, telling his wife he would be back home by dinner time.

But when he failed to return she raised the alarm and his £500,000 boat – Stefefree – was found loose near its usual moorings.

The yacht was discovered banging up against a wall at Brighton Marina and appeared to have sailed in on autopilot.

Marina staff who boarded the vessel late on Sunday night found its instruments on and the engines warm – but no sign of 74-year-old King, who is also believed to own a helicopter and a holiday home in the Caribbean.

A massive air and sea search was launched involving two helicopters and three lifeboats, but the 11-hour operation was suspended yesterday after authorities failed to find any trace of King.

Last night his second wife, Stephanie, said she ‘could not understand’ what had happened to her husband, who is listed as a director of two companies and is regarded as a pillar of the community in their home village of Alfriston in East Sussex.

The RNLI described his disappearance as a mystery.

However, last night it emerged that King was jailed for three years in 1995 for the ‘debauched’ abuse of a boy who he molested for seven years from the age of four during the 1960s.

At his trial, King had denied the allegations, insisting his accuser was attempting to blackmail him.

He said his accuser had warned him he was ‘going to have the money that if I did not help him I would regret it…. If he did not get the money he would drag me…down with him’.

But he was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court in 1995 of three counts of indecency with a child and three of indecent assault.

The victim said after King’s conviction that it had sent a ‘shot across the bows’ of child abusers, adding: ‘It was not about vengeance, I did it because I wanted to protect other children.’

King has two grown-up sons and a daughter with his first wife.

He has been married to his second wife for 38 years.

Yesterday the 65-year-old said she could not understand what had happened after he went for a sail on Sunday.

She said: ‘Len is an experienced yachtsman and has been sailing since he was at least 20. Normally we go together but during the week if it’s calm weather he may go off by himself.

‘He went off just before lunch. I was expecting him home for dinner time. I phoned him several times but his phone was unable to connect so I thought he was on his way back

‘I can’t understand what has happened. He is a very experienced yachtsman. He has all his equipment doubled up and is always careful. That is the way he runs things.’

Detectives are now liaising with his family as they investigate the circumstances of his disappearance.

King is believed to have taken the yacht sailing between Brighton and Newhaven, East Sussex.

After the alarm was raised, lifeboats searched the sea between Newhaven and Shoreham, as far out as two and a half miles off shore. Roger Cohen, Brighton RNLI lifeboat operations manager, said: ‘At the moment this is something of a mystery – the Sunseeker was found within the eastern breakwater of the marina, banging up against the wall.

‘When my crew boarded they found evidence it had recently been operated, but no sign of anyone.’

Sussex Police Inspector Roy Apps said: ‘It is an anxious time for the family. His Sunseeker boat was then found unmanned near the harbour wall at Brighton Marina. We are at an early stage of our investigation and we are liaising closely with Mr King’s family while we make inquiries.’

One neighbour said King had once given a generous donation to help install a cricket green on the field opposite his house.

She said: ‘He did an enormous amount for the village. They are lovely neighbours. They have lived here for 40-odd years.

Child rapist jailed for life

north123

Simon David North has been handed a life sentence for repeatedly raping a girl and possessing thousands of indecent images of children and babies, some including animals.

North will serve a minimum term of nine years before he can be assessed for release on parole.

Judge Michael Stokes QC, who sentenced him at Nottingham Crown Court on November 10, described North’s actions as a “campaign of rape” against the girl over a period of six years.

He imposed the life sentence on the rapes and concurrent prison sentences on a catalogue of other charges.

And he ordered North to sign the sex offenders’ register and referred the case to a barring agency to ensure North never works with children.

“I have difficulty remembering a worse case of sexual abuse of an innocent little girl as this one,” said Judge Stokes.

North’s depraved background only came to light when American police tipped off British detectives about him after they had been monitoring images in an internet chat room.

Police attended North’s home in Fosse Court, Farndon, and arrested him.

They seized his laptop and found 2,566 indecent images of girls.

He said to officers, before they found his hoarde, “there may be a few on my laptop”, the court heard.

More than 1,300 images were of children aged between four months and 14 years involved in sexual activity, and six were of extreme porn.

North, 46, who had no similar previous convictions, had filmed two young girls in a bedroom taking photos of themselves and watching pornography.

The 43-minute video was found on his laptop and raised concerns amongst officers at the “overtly sexualised behaviour” of one of the children, the court heard.

Police learned North had repeatedly raped the child since the age of four.

Dawn Pritchard, prosecuting, said the defendant posed a significant risk, his behaviour had progressed to him encouraging other sexual activity involving other young girls.

North was initially shocked at the allegations and denied touching the rape victim, who cannot be identified, sexually.

But at court last week he pleaded guilty to six rapes, sexual assault, two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making and possessing indecent photos and possessing extreme porn.

He has since claimed he cannot remember what happened following a road accident in 2003, where he suffered massive skull injuries and part of his face was rebuilt.

But Judge Stokes said: “I don’t believe that for one moment. This is an attempt to minimise the depths you have sunk to to behave in this way.

Pensioner indecently assaulted seven-year-old disabled girl – Guilty

AN elderly Worcestershire man has been found guilty of indecently assaulting a disabled seven-year-old girl he called “super star”.

Victor Galvin met the girl and her mother in Bromsgrove town centre and became friendly with them, Worcester Crown Court heard.

He later touched the girl’s breasts when she put her arms up for a hug, Samantha Powis, prosecuting, told the jury.

Police later found thousands of images of girls aged 10 and under being sexually abused by men on a computer at his home.

Galvin, of Windsor Gardens, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to possessing the images but denied indecent assault.

He was found guilty by a jury of six men and six women after two hours deliberation and was granted bail to return to court for sentencing in the first week of December after Judge Michael Cullum asked for a further pre-sentence report.

The jury heard that the mother of the child did not know Galvin until he approached her in Bromsgrove town centre and she agreed to go to a café with him.

He told her he photographed children at places such as schools and could take a picture of hers. When shown a photo of her daughter, he described her as a “super star”.

The mother said that, in later meetings, he said he taught children how to ride bikes and, when he visited their home, he took her daughter into the garden to learn how to ride.

Galvin brought a fairy in a box for her little girl with a letter, as though it was written by the fairy, and he later told the mother he had another gift for the child after he came back from a holiday to Tenerife.

One night, as he was leaving their home, he put his hands on the girl’s breasts for “a few seconds” as he gave her a hug, she told the court.

35 yr old Teaching assistant ‘groomed schoolboy with sweets and cuddles before sex in Mini’ – Court hears

helen

A teaching assistant groomed a schoolboy with sweets and cuddles then had sex with him in her Mini, a court has heard.

Helen Louise Turnbull sent the 16-year-old a photo of herself in her underwear and they swapped suggestive messages via Facebook and her phone, Teesside Crown Court was told.

The mother-of-two has admitted she kissed the pupil but denies having sex with him or performing a sex act on him, or having oral sex with him.

Helen-Turnbull

The 35-year-old from Haswell, County Durham, has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust, but denies three other counts, saying their contact went no further than kissing

Sarah Mallett, prosecuting, told the jury: “It is not suggested that (the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons) did not consent to what happened.

“These offences arose because of the need to protect children while they are at school from exploitative relationships with adult teachers who have trusted access to them, that can allow them to groom people in their care, so they then willingly engage in sexual activity.”

The prosecution alleged Turnbull, known at the school as Miss Robson, paid the boy a lot of attention and gave him sweets and cuddles. “This, the prosecution say, was the first stage of the grooming process,” she said.

After a school prom she returned home drunk and changed her Facebook profile picture to one taken that night of her with the teenager, the court heard.

Soon after her husband Ben accused her of having an affair and their marriage broke down, the jury was told.

The literacy assistant messaged the schoolboy on Facebook and they agreed to get together away from school.

They had a secret meeting and they cuddled, then kissed, Miss Mallett said, and before they parted she warned him not to tell anyone.

They met again more than a week later and this time had sex in her car, the prosecution alleged. They had to stop because another car pulled up nearby.

Miss Mallett said they met and there was sexual activity twice more in the coming month.

“Helen Turnbull also sent pictures including one in her underwear,” the jury heard.

The boy then began to cool on the relationship and felt pressured, Miss Mallett said.

If he did not reply to texts she would send hostile ones, the prosecution alleged.

The boy had been warned by her to delete messages between them, the court heard. “She knew she was married and going through a divorce and was worried she might lose custody of the children,” Miss Mallett said.

“Helen Turnbull needed the relationship to remain secret.”

Helen Turnbull, leaves Peterlee Magistrate Court.

Miss Mallett claimed Turnbull lied when her headteacher asked about what had been going on, telling him it was “sorted”.

The teenager’s father found out and spotted Turnbull sitting in her car in his street, despite the boy never telling her his address, the court heard.

Miss Mallett said: “(The father) was angry, got out of the car and called her a paedophile. “She said ‘It’s not like that’, but he was, perhaps understandably, too angry to listen.”

After he contacted police, Turnbull was arrested and admitted she had hugged the boy and given him sweets in front of others.

When her marriage got into trouble, she said she had sent him more than one friend request on Facebook. The attention made her feel better at the time, but she told police she now realised it had been “stupid”.

In a second police interview, she admitted sending messages of “sexual banter” to the boy but they were merely intended “titillate,” she said.

The court heard messages police recovered included them discussing staying in a hotel and how nice it would be for them to share a bed.

In one message, the boy told her: “I will turn up but I am not some easy 16-year-old lay. No way will you get my kit off without some graft.”

The trial continues.

AN alcoholic who sexually abused a sleeping teenage boy has been jailed for 16 months

bays

Steven Bays first groped the youngster before performing a sex act on him.

The 51-year-old was told he must register as a sex offender for 10 years and would face restrictions over contact with children.

Tessa Hingston, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court how the 16-year-old was staying at Bays’s flat in May.

She said he awoke in the early hours to find the man, who was estranged from his wife of 17 years, had undone his trousers and was interfering with him.

The victim did not immediately react, a not uncommon reaction in such cases, said Ms Hingston.

Bays then carried out a sex act on him for a few seconds, before touching him again. The teenager left the room and the defendant pretended to sleep.

From the bathroom he heard Bays castigating himself, calling himself an ‘idiot’.

The youngster then left the flat, going first to the police point in west Swindon, which was unmanned, before walking a couple of miles home in the middle of the night.

A forensic examination found Bays’s DNA and saliva in the boy’s pants.

Bays initially denied any wrongdoing. “He said he was heterosexual and had no interest in males,” Ms Hingston told the court.

She said he also told officers he did not have a drink problem but was getting through “about a third of a bottle of whisky” a day.

The court heard that the boy suffered trauma which left him unable to study and he failed his GCSEs.

Bays, of Longstock Court, Eastleaze, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault.

Rob Ross, defending, said his client was filled with remorse and had since made attempts on his life.

“He is horrified by what he did, he accepts it took place,” Mr Ross told the court.

“Mr Bays accepts this must have had a dreadful affect on the young man.”

He said Bays was now going to narcotics anonymous, and had been off the drink for a month, having drunk to excess every day since he was 19 years old.

Jailing him, Judge Peter Blair QC said “You have heard read to the court the psychological damage you have caused to this young man by what you did. It was a short period of time when you were committing these three offences but it is going to have, as you have heard, long lasting and dramatic effects on the boy.”

Southwick man jailed for child sex offences

Adam Clements

A SOUTHWICK man has been sent to prison over indecent images of children.

Shop employee Adam Clements, 26, of Butts Road, appeared at Lewes Crown Court on Monday and was sentenced to a total of two years and five months’ imprisonment.

He pleaded guilty at the hearing to 12 offences, seven relating to distributing indecent images and videos of children and five relating to making indecent images of children.

He also pleaded guilty at the same hearing to further offences of making and distributing indecent images of children, all committed while he was on bail on suspicion of the other offences, and these were taken into account in the sentencing.

Detective Sergeant Martin Harmer said: “Clements had denied his offending throughout, until Monday’s hearing, and his eventual guilty pleas and conviction are testament to the extensive enquiries undertaken by our team.

“He had over 2,000 indecent images of children on his computer and had distributed over 100 of them. The images depicted children aged as young as four and some were in the most serious category of images. It is important remember that every one of these images depicts a child being abused.”

None of the offences relate to allegations of contact offending and all the indecent images and videos were internet-based.

Clements was also served with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) lasting indefinitely and severely restricting his access to computers, and was ordered to sign the sexual offences register on his release.

He was arrested in December 2013 following an inteligence-led investigation by the Paedophile On-Line Investigation Team (POLIT) of Sussex Police, and charges were authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Worried dad helped police catch a sexual predator by posing as his 10-year-old daughter online

cork

Wayne Corkhill was on bail waiting to be sentenced for a string of sex offences when he made contact with the young girl on Facebook.

The 23-year-old, of Lord Street, Blackpool, tried to befriend his victim and invited her round to his flat for “cuddles” as well as telling her she was gorgeous.

But Corkhill was unaware he was actually messaging the girl’s father, who later made a complaint to police, it emerged yesterday at Preston Crown Court.

He was given an extended sentence of six years and seven months behind bars after pleading guilty to five charges of sexual activity with a child, plus two of meeting a child following sexual grooming and one of attempting to a meet a child following grooming.

The most recent offences took place in June, the same month he pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl.

Sue Carter, prosecuting, said his behaviour with the 13-year-old began with kissing and progressed to touching.

He pleaded guilty to the offences, which occurred last year, and was on bail awaiting sentencing when he met up with two girls, aged 11 and 12.

The girls met up with him for a brief period in Blackpool after school.

Corkhill was smoking and he walked with them towards the chip shop where he worked.

He met up with them a second time near Central Pier, where he is said to have hugged them both.

The court heard he then touched the leg of one of the girls.

He contacted one of them online to say that she and her friend should go to his house and have sex, said Miss Carter.

Around this time, he made contact with the 10-year-old on Facebook, prompting the girl’s dad to exchange messages with Corkhill while pretending to be his daughter.

“He made it clear she was 10,” Miss Carter said. “The defendant said she was gorgeous and asked her to go to his flat for cuddles and gave her his telephone number.”

He went on to claim to police that his Facebook account must have been hacked into.

Waheed Omran-Baber, defending, said the girls had suffered pain, hurt and anxiety.

He said: “There was a degree of naively and immaturity in his actions.

“There were, however, no threats, violence or intimidation by him.

“The defendant accepts what he has done is wrong. He expresses remorse.”

Judge Robert Altham told the defendant he had clearly had the most serious sexual interest towards girls and said an extended sentence was necessary for the protection of the public.

He added: “I have no doubt that had he been left to his own devices these girls would have suffered extremely serious harm at his hands.”

Corkhill will be on the sex offenders register for life.

A sexual offences prevention order will apply indefinitely.

He will serve half his term behind bars before being released on extended licence for eight years.

The case comes as police have launched a week-long high profile campaign to combat child exploitation.

Officers will this week be visiting vulnerable youngsters, helping responsible adults to spot the warning signs of abuse and visiting known offenders to ensure they are staying out of trouble.
