Community order for former Twickenham teacher, from East Molesey, found with indecent images of children

A former teacher from East Molesey has been spared jail after admitting making incident images of children.

Adrian Kilroy, 55, of Wolesey Road, was handed a community order for five years after pleading guilty at Staines Magistrates’ Court to four counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child between January 1, 2009, and November 29, 2013.

Kilroy, who worked at Newland House School, Twickenham, until he resigned in January this year, was also given a sexual offences prevention order for five years and forfeiture and destruction order was issued for the indecent material.

As part of his community order, Kilroy must register with the police for five years.

Co Down man faces jail over child images

neil

A Co Down man has been told he faces a possible jail term after admitting making, distributing and showing indecent images of children.

Neil Cunningham pleaded guilty to a total of 35 offences committed on dates between 1 January 2011 and 18 May 2013 including 25 counts of making indecent photographs of children, eight of distributing or showing indecent images of children and two further charges of possessing extreme pornography.

The 25-year-old’s defence QC said Cunningham understood what he had pleaded guilty to and asked that sentencing be adjourned for probation reports and a psychiatric evaluation.

Judge Patrick Lynch QC agreed to the reports and released Cunningham on bail until sentencing on 11 September.

The judge warned that his release was no indication as to “the ultimate outcome” of the case.

Cunningham, of Glebe Manor in Hillsborough, was also ordered to sign the police sex offender register.

Doncaster teacher jailed for child sex offences

worrall

A Doncaster teacher has been jailed this lunchtime for child sex offences, but has been cleared of the attempted rape of a teenager.

Paul Worrall, was jailed for 12 months and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years after he had previously admitted offences of sexual activity with a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

However, following a three day trial, a jury at Sheffield Crown Court found the 31-year-old not guilty of the attempted rape of the girl, when she was aged 15, and a charge of sexual activity with a child.

worrall1

During the trial, Worrall, of Oldham, Lancashire, said he knew he had let down his friends, family and former fiancée by having a relationship with the under-age teenager.

He said: “I know that everything that happened between me and her shouldn’t have happened.”

But Worrall, who taught history at Hall Cross Academy for four years, strenuously denied charges of attempted rape and sexual activity with a child, both against the same girl.

He added: “There’s been no need for me to compel her to do anything, because she was always willing.”

She cannot be named for legal reasons.

Worrall said having a relationship with the girl gave him the ‘excitement factor’ and that ‘girls like her’ did not look at him in a romantic sense when he was their age, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

The former teacher has been jailed for, inciting sexual activity with the girl via text messaging and social media – including Facebook and Twitter.

Prosecuting, David Hall, said Worrall had ‘groomed’ the girl and set out to sexualise the way they interacted with each other from the beginning of his contact with her.

He said: “You encouraged an atmosphere where sexuality was out there.

“It wasn’t love or romance, it was just good old fashioned lust.”

Defending, Andrew Smith, praised Worrall for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity, and providing police with a ‘detailed account’ of his relationship with the girl.

South Yorkshire Police launched an investigation last August, after messages between Worrall and the girl were discovered by her sister.

Detective Constable Laura Jones said of the case: “His actions had a huge impact on the victim’s life.”

She added: “We have specially-trained officers in place who work with victims from the moment we receive reports of sexual offences to ensure they receive the support they need.

“South Yorkshire Police takes all reports of sexual offences seriously and will work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”

Worrall was sacked from Hall Cross Academy when the offences came to light.

He previously held a managerial teaching position at the school, which is the biggest in Doncaster with more than 2,000 pupils and 500 sixth form students.

Speaking after the trial, principal at Hall Cross Academy, Pippa Dodgshon, said in a statement released via Doncaster Council: “As we have previously stated, this unique case refers to a former colleague.”

She continued by saying she wanted to reassure members of the community that academy and local authority processes were strong and effective.

Man jailed after ‘appalling’ sex proposition to schoolgirl

A 32-year-old petty criminal who made a “distasteful and appalling proposition” to a teenager for sex has been sentenced to 12 months in jail.

Judge David McFarland told Collin Thomas Peter Murphy that “in essence, you were seeking her services as a prostitute”, which she refused.

Murphy, with an address in Verner Street, Belfast, was convicted last month of inciting the 15-year-old to have sex with him in his former Co Antrim home in August 2011.

The Crown Court judge said the girl had been with a group of other teens who had been allowed to use Murphy’s home for drinking and drugs – although, he added, there was no suggestion that he had supplied them with anything.

He added that while others left or drifted away, she was left alone and was looking for a taxi home when Murphy propositioned her.

The judge said a victim impact report indicated that the girl had been left with a form of adjustment disorder and as such this has had a clear impact on her life.

Murphy, he said, had 49 previous convictions, although relatively minor and typical for a man of his age with alcohol and drugs issues.

However, while Murphy had no previous sex convictions, his offending on this occasion required an immediate custodial sentence.

In addition Murphy was put on the sex offenders’ register for the next 10 years and banned from working with children.

Earlier defence lawyer Justin Byrne revealed that since the incident, Murphy had been under constant threat from paramilitaries and had been forced out of his Co Antrim home.

A games teacher has admitted having sex with a pupil she taught at an all girls private school.

Emily Fox, from Bath, pleaded guilty at St Albans Crown Court to four counts of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl while in a position of trust.

The offences took place in 2012-13, when Fox, 26, was a teacher at the Royal Masonic School for Girls in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.

Fox was released on bail and is due to return for sentencing on 5 September.

Fox, of Alfred Street, is not allowed to attend the school or have contact with anyone aged under 16.

She will also be added to the sex offenders register.

The Royal Masonic School for Girls was founded in 1788 in east London to teach the daughters of Freemasons.

It moved to its current site in 1934 and has a mixture of day and boarding pupils.

Internet pervert admits targeting boy, 13, with ‘vile’ texts

AN INTERNET pervert who made “disgusting and depraved” suggestions to a 13-year-old boy he was “sexting” had done incalculable damage to the victim and his family, Bradford CrownCourt heard.

Joshua Hall, 26, was one of a long line of men who targeted the vulnerable teenager to indulge their “disgusting paedophilia,” the judge told him today.

Hall pleaded guilty to two offences of inciting a child to engage in a sexual offence, dating back to May , 2011.

Judge Jonathan Rose said Hall, described as bored, isolated, depressed and unemployed at the time, had made a significant contribution to the grooming and abuse of the victim, who lives in the Bradford area.

Hall messaged the child saying: “You seem very cute but you are ten years younger than me.”

He then made a series of “vile and repulsive” suggestions over a six day period.

In a victim impact statement, the boy’s father spoke of the “drastic and negative” effect of all the men’s criminal behaviour on his son.

He was preyed on by adults he thought were his friends, groomed and manipulated.

Miss Jane Cooper said in mitigation that Hall could not explain or understand his behaviour three years ago.

He did not disguise his identity on the internet or entice the boy into meeting him.

“He was unemployed, depressed, lonely and isolated and he found himself using the internet in an inappropriate way,” Miss Cooper said.

Hall, of New Lane, Middleton, Leeds, who was 22 stone, had low self esteem and had attempted suicide.

He was very remorseful and aware of the pain he had caused his young victim and his family.

Judge Rose sentenced Hall to a three year community order with supervision and a high level activity requirement. He will be on electronically monitored curfew for six months.

Hall must sign on the sex offenders register for five years and the judge made a five year Sexual Offences Prevention Order to monitor his phone and internet use and safeguard his victim.

Judge Rose told him: “If you and I meet again, you are going to prison.”

Newcastle child rapist who forced victim to perform sex acts on him jailed for 15 years

pervert

CHILD rapist Neil Taylor-Cashmore has been jailed for 15 years after subjecting his victim to a campaign of sexual abuse.

The paedophile groomed the youngster before making her touch him and perform sex acts on him. He also carried out sex acts on her.

And the 58-year-old attempted to rape and also raped the girl, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard yesterday.

Now Taylor-Cashmore has been jailed and made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order which prevents him having unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16 – until further notice.

Prosecutor Dean Kershaw said the abuse started when the girl was young.

Mr Kershaw said: “It started with touching, with her being asked to touch him.

“He would sometimes carry out sex acts on the girl. She was raped by him.”

The court heard Taylor-Cashmore told his victim she must not tell anyone about what happened.

Mr Kershaw added: “There would have been psychological harm over a prolonged period of time.”

Taylor-Cashmore, of Goodwin Avenue, Newcastle, denied 10 charges of indecent assault; three counts of attempted rape; and three charges of rape.

But a jury found him guilty of all 16 offences at his trial last month.

Joanne Wallbanks, mitigating, said the abuse stopped. She said: “He has done nothing since to her or anybody else.”

Miss Wallbanks added that Taylor-Cashmore, who has no previous convictions, still denies the offences but does acknowledge in his pre-sentence report that he would be willing to participate in any courses put his way.

Judge David Fletcher said Taylor-Cashmore would serve half the sentence in jail with the rest on licence.

He told the defendant: “From a young age you both attempted to and did rape her on numerous occasions.

“Throughout the trial you persistently and vindictively tried to persuade the jury that the entire fault lay with your victim, who was accused of lying and scheming.

“It is clear you have no empathy for your victim, nor do you display any remorse.

“The only mitigation is your lack of any previous convictions.

“Your victim was required to participate in the criminal trial process which proved palpably immensely stressful for her.”

Taylor-Cashmore will also be on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Taxi driver is jailed for sexual abuse of 12-year-old girl

Untitled

TAXI driver Brian Fletcher has been locked up for four years for sexually abusing a schoolgirl.

The 63-year-old befriended his victim, who was 12 when the two years of abuse began, and “groomed” her by buying her presents.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard that Fletcher, pictured below, would pick the girl up from school in his minibus, where some of the abuse took place.

Neil Ahuja, prosecuting, said: “The victim was effectively groomed by the defendant.

“He would regularly take her to and from school in his taxi and she would accompany him on jobs in his minibus.

“He would regularly give her money and buy her things.”

The court heard that Fletcher also paid for his victim to join a gym, where more abuse took place.

His offences came to light when he asked a colleague to fix his computer and the files were transferred on to an iPod. The iPod was then sold and the buyer discovered it contained indecent photographs, including some of the victim.

Mr Ahuja said: “The police were called in. The images found on the defendant’s computer included a number of lawful photographs of the victim and 12 illegal images.”

The court heard that the photographs were all classed as level one – the least serious of five levels of indecency.

Joanne Wallbanks, mitigating, said: “The defendant has no relevant previous convictions.

“It’s plain these offences took place at a time of the defendant’s life when he was having to cope with a number of factors – his wife’s illness, the demise of their relationship, and he had also been through bankruptcy.

“The defendant doesn’t justify his actions as being in any way appropriate.”

Fletcher, of Ravenna Way, Longton, pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a child and making indecent photos of a child. Judge Robert Trevor-Jones said he felt Fletcher posed a high risk of causing serious harm to children and passed an eight-year sentence for the protection of the public.

He said: “This was sustained and repetitive abuse of a young girl over a significant period of time, and carried out in a variety of locations.

“You also continue to put some blame on her for in some way encouraging you, and that’s worrying. It seems to me you are significantly in denial in relation to this offending.”

Fletcher will spend four years in custody and four years on licence. He will be on the sex offenders’ register for life and banned from working with children.

The 222 days he has spent on remand will be deducted from his sentence.

Teens Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting 7 Bucks Girls

mills

Two teenagers sexually assaulted seven schoolgirls in Buckinghamshire when their victims were aged just 12 and 13, a court has heard.

18-year-old Kishun Mills, from Oldham, and a 17-year-old boy carried out the attacks in Chesham and Wycombe between 2009 and 2012.

The Oxford Crown Court Jury couldn’t decide on two counts of rape, though.

The charges against Mills were:

  • One count of sexual activity with a child aged 14

  • Two counts of sexual activity with a child aged 15

The jury were unable to reach a verdict on a count of rape of a child under 13.

The 17-year-old had pleaded guilty to:

  • One count of rape of a child under 13

  • Four counts of sexual activity with a child aged 14

  • Two counts of sexual activity with a child aged 14

  • One count of sexual activity with a child aged 13

The jury were unable to reach a verdict on another 17-year-old from Nottinghamshire on one count of rape.

The teenagers were arrested by police in June 2013.

Alexander McCullough – Greenock

August 2014

A GREENOCK man banned from all contact with women has appeared in court to admit possession of a sickening sex image of a child.

Alexander McCullough, 48, had the photo on a mobile phone which was seized by police at his home in Lansbury Street on 9 February last year.

He appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court from custody to plead guilty to the charge.

It is the latest offence in McCullough’s catalogue of criminality, with prosecutors believing he is ‘a danger to young females’ in the town.

Last year the Tele revealed he was on an ASBO designed to keep him away from ALL women.

He is believed to be the only person in Scotland with the unique anti-social behaviour order banning him from unsupervised contact with females.

And in January he was jailed after admitting his FOURTH weapons offence.

Prior to that he was put behind bars in September for sending text messages to a Greenock woman saying he was going to sexually assault her and shoot members of her family, including her children.

His latest offence happened after police seized his mobile phone in connection with that incident.

When it was forensically examined at a police laboratory, an image was found featuring sexual abuse of a female who prosecutors believe to be around 10-years-old.

Depute fiscal Pamela Brady said: “A second search warrant was granted and officers found a folder at the address which included a piece of paper, effectively a list of sexual activity involving children.

“The view taken was that it was indicative of the accused’s sexual interests.”

Jobless McCullough was granted bail on 29 July 2013 at the court and ordered not to access the internet or to have unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16.

A further allegation was raised by police to prosecutors, who then brought a petition before the court on 6 December asking for McCullough’s bail to be revoked.

Sheriff Thomas McCartney placed him back into custody at this point.

McCullough’s solicitor Gerry Keenan appealed the decision at the High Court, but judges upheld it and he has been kept in custody ever since.

Mr Keenan again applied for bail ahead of sentencing over the indecent image.

He said: “There is nothing in his record that is directly analogous to what he has pled to today.

“This is a single image.”

Responding to the bail application, Ms Brady said: “There are serious concerns he poses a danger to young females and that is reflected in the ASBO that was granted.”

Sheriff Derek Hamilton refused lawyer Mr Keenan’s bail request, stating that McCullough had broken previous bail orders, and his ASBO, had failed to show for previous court appearances and had a number of domestic assault and weapons convictions.

He said: “Before I know more about you and the danger you pose to the community you will be remanded in custody.”

The sheriff has called for full background reports and McCullough will be sentenced later this month.

Former Plymouth McDonalds worker had 450,000 child abuse pictures

A FORMER McDonald’s worker who had more than 450,000 pictures and videos of child abuse has been spared jail.

Police found a huge haul of indecent material on computers and hard drives belonging to 32-year-old Mark Wilby, much of which involved children aged eight or nine years old.

Investigators stopped categorising the images when they reached 2,000, but Plymouth Crown Court heard Wilby had about 450,000 in total.

Prosecutor Sarah Vince said: “The offences came to the attention of the police following a search of his home which he shares with his mother. The warrant was as a result of police intelligence suggesting that he was accessing child pornography over the internet.”

Ms Vince said investigators analysing Wilby’s computers and external hard drives stopped recording the details of the material when they reached 2,000.

She said his computers contained 1,299 images and two movies of category C (the lowest level), four images and three movies of category B and 11 images and three movies of category A. Ms Vince said this material involved children aged 8 and 9 years old.

They also found 101 images and 30 movies classed as ‘extreme pornography’ which did not involve children.

Wilby’s external hard drive was found to contain 529 category C images, two category B and one category A, along with five ‘extreme pornography’ images.

Jo Martin, for Wilby, said: “What he has is an obsessive compulsive behaviour in terms of downloading pornography and giving in to things that give him the high that he feels he needs.”

Wilby, of Townshend Avenue, Keyham, was handed a nine-month jail term, suspended for two years. He was also made subject to probation supervision and a Sexual Offenders Prevention Order.

Judge Graham Cottle told Wilby: “You have not sought to minimize your responsibility for all of this, you have willingly sought help and will continue to do so. You are, therefore, a perfectly suitable candidate for the sexual offenders treatment programme.

“However, these are serious offences and they must be met with a custodial sentence, but I am prepared to suspend the sentence.”

Teenager sexually assaulted 13-year-old girl in field outside hospital

A teenager who abused a young girl in a field and contacted other children via social media has been jailed for four and a half years.

Gavin Scoular used BlackBerry Messenger, Skype, Facebook and Snapchat to contact the children, who were aged between ten and 12.

The court heard Scoular tried on various occasions to meet with a 13-year-old to engage in sexual activity. He eventually met her in a field near Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and sexually assaulted her.

The 19-year-old threatened another girl with posting indecent images of her online and forced two children to watch him perform a sex act on himself.

He previously pleaded guilty to the offences, which took place between August 2012 and August 2013.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, Scoular, from Edinburgh, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and supervision for three years after his release.

Sheriff Alistair Noble said: “You have pleaded guilty to a series of extremely serious offences.”

Scoular contacted a 12-year-old girl on various occasions, sending her a number of messages asking about her sexual experiences and asking her to perform sex acts on him. He then threatened to post indecent images of her online if she did not meet up with him.

When she was with her 11-year-old friend, Scoular forced the girls to watch him perform sex acts on himself over Skype.

He also contacted 12-year-old and 13-year-old girls, sending them sexually inappropriate messages and asking them to perform sex acts on him.

Scoular contacted an 11-year-old girl and ten-year-old boy, asking them to meet him in Edinburgh.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said: “He is incredibly remorseful. He doesn’t fully understand why he was behaving in this fashion. Over time he has opened up to his family. They continue to support him.”

Scoular has been placed on the sex offender register for ten years.

Pervert caught with 1,738 child abuse photos at his Trent Vale home

THE father of a newborn baby was caught by police with 1,738 indecent photographs of children on his computer.

Officers discovered James Sykes’s two laptops had been used to download and save pictures and videos of youngsters aged between five and 12-years-old during a search at his Trent Vale home.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday heard 12 of the images were at category five – the most serious level.

Prosecutor Paul Farrow said: “Searches were evident on both laptops for pre-teen images and the uploading of images had taken place on to the internet.

“The defendant admitted uploading items using an account that wasn’t in his name.

“The defendant stated that he did it about 12 months ago and accessed the images in August 2012. He said he uploaded about 100 lower level images and said he was interested in ages between five and 12.”

Sykes, of Allensmore Avenue, was interviewed but gave no comment to all the questions after the photographs were discovered on February 16.

But the 28-year-old later pleaded guilty to seven counts of making indecent pictures of children between January 1, 2012 and February 16, 2013.

He also admitted distributing 38 indecent pictures and one moving image on July 7, 2012.

Jason Holt, mitigating, said: “It’s clear that the thing that’s often lacking in cases like this is that early recognition of wrong behaviour, but he accepts that he’s got a problem and he’s asked for help.

“He has lost everything at a time when he should have been spending time with his three-month-old child and trying to get back the marriage that he lost.

“He blames himself for the death of his mother, he is a broken man. But because of the attitude that he’s had there are green shoots arising. He has daily contact with his partner, although it has taken 18 months to get to this stage.”

Judge David Fletcher sentenced Sykes to a three-year community order, with supervision and a requirement to undergo the community sex offender programme. He was also made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) and will be on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Judge Fletcher said: “The fact you recognise this was a problem and the fact the circumstances relating to these convictions led to a number of problems in your personal life, and the fact you’ve already accessed outside agencies to deal with the issues, means that it’s not necessary to deprive you of your liberty today.”

Mirfield pensioner Brian Fox jailed after watching internet scenes of children having sex in the Phillipines

Fox

A perverted pensioner who paid to watch two children having sex over the internet in another country has been jailed for three years four months.

Officers discovered what Brian David Fox had been up to when they executed a search warrant at his Mirfield home on August 31, 2012 and seized computer equipment on which indecent images were then found.

But Philip Adams prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court the officers also discovered a number of chat logs including exchanges with a youth in the Phillipines.

They revealed that the youth, had discussed with Fox how much he would pay for a live sex show.

He told the pensioner he had a friend with him and when Fox asked how old he was, the youth said around the same age as him, 13.

Mr Adams told the court Fox transferred £20 to them and then directed the boys to undress and perform sex acts. That included oral sex and one boy having sex with the other.

The messages also showed Fox was asked afterwards if he had enjoyed the show and he said it was “great.”

He was told if he contacted them again the following day there would be three boys including one aged 11. Records showed he had also been in contact with other individuals during which paying for live sex shows was discussed.

Examination of his computer equipment revealed 47 indecent images of children of which 34 were at the lowest level one and five movies at level one and two were also seized.

Simon Batiste representing Fox said the offences were some time ago while the computer was analysed and he had since sought help for his problems.

It was not known if the youths involved in the most serious charge were really 13 or older but he realised that offence was particularly serious.

He said Fox suffered ill-health having had a number of heart attacks and was facing a heart by-pass operation, which would make custody difficult for him.

He urged as an act of mercy the sentence be suspended.

Judge Neil Clark rejected that plea. Fox, 69 of Crossley Lane, Mirfield, admitted five offences of making indecent photographs and one of causing child pornography. He was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

The judge told him the children in the images and movies were not only being physically abused but emotionally when they discovered the photographs were being circulated.

But the most serious offence was his direction of the children in the Phillipines to be involved in pornography who were caused to perform sex acts.

“You were paying directly for a child being abused in a foreign country.”

After the case DC Pam Gillings of West Yorkshire Police said: “This sentence reflects the serious nature of the offences and sends out a message to those individuals within West Yorkshire and beyond that the sexual exploitation of children will be uncovered and investigated thoroughly.”

Pervert finally jailed after getting away with abusing young girls for more than 20 years

William-Sutherland

A man who abused two young girls has finally been jailed after getting away with it for more than 20 years.

William Sutherland, 72, denied a catalogue of abuse in the 1990s but was found guilty after a trial.

The pervert carried out multiple rapes on one girl between the ages of three and 10.

He also denied abusing a second girl multiple times over a single night when he cornered her in a caravan in Southport.

He even threatened one of the girls if she revealed what he had done.

He was found guilty by a jury on four counts of rape and eight of indecent assault.

Liverpool Crown Court heard moving testimony from his two victims, who are both now grown women.

One said: “Since this happened to me I think it has affected my relationships. Whenever I told my partner what happened to me at the hands of William Sutherland it always caused me problems.

“I’m just glad that this has come to an end and justice has finally been served.”

His second victim, said: “I don’t know how to express what William Sutherland has done to me. All that I know is he took away my childhood.

“I know today I am a fraction of the person I was meant to be.”

Judge Robert Warnock, sentencing, jailed Sutherland, of Wellbrow Road, Walton, for 15 years for the rapes and a further two years for indecently assaulting the second girl.

He said Sutherland was guilty of a substantial abuse of trust and grooming, adding: “You tried to convince (one of your victims) that she enjoyed what was clearly a terrifying experience.

“You have stolen their childhood and seriously impaired their adult lives. I cannot detect any remorse or insight into what you have done.”

Paedophile who spent three years abusing schoolgirl caught 20 years later after his victim saw similar abuse in Eastenders storyline

r

A paedophile was caught 20 years after abusing his victim when the woman realised she had been groomed after watching a similar storyline on Eastenders.

Robert Hayes-Danson spent three years grooming the victim, now in her thirties, without being brought to justice.

But when the woman watched an episode of the soap in which a 12-year-old is sexually exploited by her mother’s boyfriend, she realised she had been abused and was not, as she thought, having an ‘affair’ with the man.

Her abuser was found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child at Preston Crown Court on Thursday.

The court heard how Hayes-Danson took the girl to local shops and bought her perfume which he told her not to tell his wife about.

The pair watched videos together while Hayes-Danson offered her lifts in his van and invited her to his home in Preston, Lancashire when she was 12, 14 and 15.

The victim put distance between them when, after his first attempt to have sex with her, Hayes-Danson’s wife ‘almost’ interrupted.

‘I never thought he groomed me. I just thought I was having an affair with him and betraying his wife,’ she said.

When the man had a breakdown in 1993, the woman blamed herself.

‘I thought it was my fault.’

‘All this was going on before and I was petrified.

‘I thought I had caused him to have this breakdown. I was so scared someone would find out.’

Years later the woman was watching Eastenders when a similar storyline, in which 12-year-old schoolgirl Whitney Dean was exploited by her mother’s boyfriend, Tony King, emerged.

After contacting police the woman appeared in court to face her abuser who shook his head as verdicts were returned.

Judge Jacqueline Beech told him: ‘You have been convicted of some very serious sexual offences.

Hayes-Danson from Newton-with-Scales, Lancashire, was told to expect a lengthy prison term when he returns to court next month.’

‘You have effectively stolen her childhood and you should be ashamed of yourself.

‘You will be sentenced to a sentence of imprisonment. Put your affairs in order for that sentencing hearing.’

A spokesman for the victim said she was ‘relieved’ with the outcome of the trial.

Paedophile accountant jailed for internet relationship with 14-year-old girl

An accountant who contacted hundreds of girls on the internet and made one victim take “degrading and humiliating” pictures of herself was today jailed for five years and four months.

Eduard Van Buul (47) admitted two charges of inciting the 14-year-old to engage in sexual activity via his work’s computer.

Van Buul, of Canal Bridge Close, Loughborough, and formerly of Enderby, also pleaded guilty to 10 offences of possessing indecent images of children, 10 counts of distributing them to fellow paedophiles and three of possessing extreme pornography.

Sentencing the married father-of-one at Leicester Crown Court, Judge Robert Brown said: “The victim was between 13 and 15 years old and over a period of 15 months you engaged in a relationship with her over the internet.

“You were frank with the police, accepting you’d been involved in on-line chats with hundreds of women of all ages, but the vast majority were under 16.

“With this particular girl you exchanged 311 e-mails.

“You’re a highly intelligent and manipulative man.

“She fell in love with you and you persuaded her to send you indecent images of herself.

“You sent her images of a sexual nature that became more extreme and violent as time went on.

“What she did to herself at your request amounted to humiliation and degradation.

“One of the concerning aspects is you didn’t see anything wrong with your conduct.

“It’s plain you need treatment.

“This involved planning, grooming and the targeting of a young child.

“I’m mindful that your abuse of this young girl was over the internet and not in person.”

He said: “The defendant toyed with her emotions in a very clever way and was grooming her.

“In her case, the trauma she’s suffered could hardly be greater.”

Victoria Rose, prosecuting, said Van Buul was arrested as a result of a covert internet investigation with officers posing on-line as a young girl, contacted by the defendant last April.

His online abuse of the 14-year-old came to light and the victim was “horrified” when she realised she had been duped.

Miss Rose said: “His chatting to her became more violent and he said he wanted to beat her so hard he would break her bones.”

In a victim impact report she claimed to feel “stupid” and blamed herself, resorting to self-harm with scissors.

Judge Brown said: “She has done nothing wrong, she’s the victim and mustn’t blame herself.”

Van Buul possessed 630 indecent images of children at level one, 50 at level two, 154 at level three, 189 at level four (including 72 videos) and 20 in the most serious category, level 5.

He distributed images to other paedophiles internationally, communicating with them in English, German and French and Dutch.

They involved 627 images at level one, 69 at level two, 244 at level three, 357 at level four and 47 at level five.

He had 16 images or videos of extreme pornography involving bestiality.

James Varley, mitigating, said Van Buul had no previous convictions and had since voluntarily paid to attend a course with the Lucy Faithful Foundation, where he confronted the error of his ways.

Mr Varley said: “He now realises how wrong he was and expresses a willingness and a desire to change.

“It’s acknowledged by him he made a victim of this 14-year-old girl.

“He escaped into a horrid world of fantasy.

“There was never any attempt to meet this girl or any of the people he talked to online.

“The psychological report says his offending was less sexually motivated and more driven by social or emotional deficits, in layman’s terms a form of loneliness.

“All the offending was on his work computer, not at home.”

He was sacked when his employers found out about the police investigation.

Det Sgt Paul Hawkins who heads Leicestershire Police’s Paedophile and Online Investigation Team, said: “Van Buul admitted to us that he had been communicating with children and paedophiles and accessing such material for more than 20 years.

“His offending appears to have been kept from his family, as there was no evidence to support that he accessed such material from home.

“The evidence presented in court against Van Buul is just a snap shot of his offending and that it is highly likely that there may be other victims out there – I would encourage them to come forward. Van Buul’s offending is sickening, as he thought nothing of distributing images of very young children being abused, children who were clearly in distress.

August 2014: Mark James was released from prison yesterday (08/08/14). James was jailed for 46 months in 2011 after admitting sexual abuse against three under-age girls.

He returned to court in 2012 and was found guilty again for multiple counts of sexual activity with a young female child. The victim was just 10-years-old when she was first targeted by Mark James

Since leaving prison James is now subject to an indefinite sexual prevention order barring him from working or living with anybody under the age of 16.

He must also not enter any school premises or playgrounds or loiter within 15 metres. He is on the sexual offender register for life.

Mark James has now returned to the Bristol area – and has connections to the areas of Filton, Severn beach, Pill and Blackpool in Lancashire

‘It sickens me he was the first man I kissed’: Victim of serial paedophile reveals ordeal, aged 10, at the hands of trusted family friend

james

A woman who was sexually abused as a child by a family friend has spoken out about her ordeal in court as her attacker was jailed.

Sally Maby, 37, was just 10-years-old when she was targeted by Mark Lesley James, now 54, who befriended her through a church in Bristol in the 1980s and then abused her.

Now, nearly thirty years later and as James was jailed for the offences on Friday, Miss Maby has waived her right to anonymity in the hope that it will give others the strength to come forward and report similar offences.

James, living in Filton, Bristol, at the time of the offences, was so manipulative and cunning that Miss Maby had convinced herself he was ‘amazing’ and was so confused she believed him to be her first boyfriend.

At the time Miss Maby was particularly vulnerable because her parents had split up and she said it ‘sickened’ her that James was the first man she kissed.

She only found the strength to come forward to police after James was convicted last year for assaults against other youngsters and was jailed for 46 months.

Shortly before his trial was due to start James admitted a further 14 counts of sexual activity with children.

On Friday at Bristol Crown Court he was jailed for a further 14 months for abuse carried out against Miss Maby and three other victims, who cannot be named.

Judge Julian Lambert told him: ‘You are cunning and manipulative and must never be allowed near children again.

‘You are wicked and spoilt the childhood of a number of girls and the sentence I impose will do nothing to put that right.’

As well as being jailed he is subject to an indefinite sexual prevention order barring him from working or living with anybody under the age of 16.

He must also not enter any school premises or playgrounds or loiter within 15 metres. He is on the sexual offender register for life.

The historic nature of the offences meant the judge was bound by old sentencing guidelines.

Had the offences been committed after 2003 the sentence James would have got would have been significantly higher.

In court, Miss Maby took the unusual step of taking the stand to read a statement so that he could hear how his actions had damaged her life.

She said: ‘It sickens me to admit that Mark is the first man I kissed and could be considered my first boyfriend.

‘He made me feel special at a time I was very insecure. I believed him when he said he was the only one who cared about me.’

Miss Maby told the court that after her experiences she had terrible problems with low self-esteem, intimacy, relationships and had abused alcohol and cannabis.

She said: ‘Often I would cry myself to sleep or wake up in the middle of the night crying and feeling lonely.

‘I would run away as a coping mechanism thinking it would allow me to start again and get things right but I realised I needed to return to my home city and face my fears.’

Miss Maby said she eventually became close to her family again and realised she had to deal with her ‘past demons’ and had ‘amazing’ support from her family and friends.

She said: ‘I no longer felt alone and decided to work on freeing myself from the demons of my past.

‘I have the strength and courage to deal with anything thrown at me but this is the first time I have been free.

‘As strong as I am, he has been the one calling the shots until today. I truly hope that hearing this he will realise that after having the power and control he has finally lost it.

‘I have no doubt in my mind that he will not have any remorse for what he has done.’

Peter Coombe, prosecuting, said: ‘During the 1980s when the defendant was in his 20s or early 30s he was a member of St Andrew’s Church in Filton and took part in activities.

‘He used this to get in contact with young people aged 10 and 11.

‘The defendant targeted (Sally Maby) and began to groom her.

‘He later told her that he wanted to announce the relationship but didn’t turn up to the wedding party where he was meant to do so.

‘She was told she must keep it a secret because other people would not understand and said her mother would be upset and would have a breakdown because she would not be able to cope.’

Even after her family moved house when Miss Maby was 14 or 15 James visited her, the court heard

Mr Coombe said she did not make a formal complaint to police for many years but came forward after hearing from family members that he had been jailed for abusing other children between 2005 and 2010.

Mr Coombe then outlined the abuse suffered by two other girls who had met James through the church.

In her victim impact statement one girl said: ‘The incidents make me feel sick even to this day.’

Mr Coombe said that in May 2011 James was jailed for 46 months after admitting sexual abuse against three under-age girls.

David Hughes, defending, said James had completed his sentence on September 7 but was on remand awaiting the latest hearing.

After the hearing Sally said: ‘I hope what I have done has given other people who have been abused the strength to come forward.

‘It is a long journey and it can be lonely but there is great support out there and it is so worth it.’

‘He should die in jail': Victim of pervert John Honan says 4 and a half years behind bars is NOT enough

John-Honan

A victim of pervert ex soldier John Honan says he hopes the monster rots in prison.

“Evil and twisted”  Honan, 77, who is originally from Clare was jailed for four and a half years on Thursday for molesting four siblings while on trips to north Kerry between 1989 and 1999.

Now one of his brave victims has said he believes Honan should spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Honan, who was living in the UK but returned to Kerry intermittently, denied the charges but was found guilty by a jury on all counts following a three week trial. The pensioner served in both the Irish and British armies and worked in construction in the UK.

Dad-of-two Peter – not his real name –  said: “I definitely think he should die in prison. Four and a half years isn’t long enough for him.

“Anyone who abuses a child, it doesn’t matter what age they are or who they are, they should get a life sentence.”

The victim continued: “I still feel angry about it now. He is a sick perverted man.

“I think he is more sickened that he was found out and shamed than the abuse itself.

“He ruined our lives.”

Peter explained how he first came in contact with Honan in their North Kerry village when the pervert was building a house there in the late 80s.

Honan served in both the British and Irish armies and for 20 years had worked with McAlpine construction in the UK, including in the London underground.

“He put a caravan on the site while the building was going on. He would come home for five or six weeks every year.

Peter said Honan started the abuse slowly but it progressed over two years.

“We used to go back helping him on the site when we were younger. With me it started that he used to take me into the caravan.

“First of all he started off by giving me a massage. He would be telling me that this was all quite normal, that this went on in every house.

“It went from that to me having to masturbate him. It progressed then to I having to give him oral sex.

“I was 13 at the time, it was in 1989.”

Peter explained that as he got older Honan moved on to his sister: “It was the same for my sister. My other sister and my brother it wasn’t as bad – he was groping them and stuff.”

The siblings were all aged “around 12 or 13” when Honan first started abusing them and it continued for a decade.

The conniving pervert would give the children gifts in a bid to lure them into his seedy caravan.

“I was 13 and he used to give me drink and cigarettes. He used to bring home pornographic magazines and clothes to us. He bribed us into things.”

Peter explained that he and his siblings never spoke to each other about the abuse and Honan continued to assure them that it was perfectly normal behaviour.

“At the time of the abuse no one discussed anything because he had us convinced that everything was quite normal, that it was all part of growing up. He was so smart about it.”

He continued: “I didn’t say anything to anyone because the man that I trusted abused me.

“As the years went on we came together and decided that it was about time that we do something about it.

“We went to the guards and from that it went to court.”

Horan professed his innocence throughout and his case came to trial in May where was found guilty on 27 counts of abusing the siblings

On Thursday his victims finally got justice when Judge Ray Fullam sentenced Honan to four and a half years for the crimes.

Honan has never apologised to his victims: “Inside in court he had no remorse, nothing. We are still getting comments that we are all liars, that we are this that and the other. That we will get our comeuppance.

“Twas bad enough he put us through the abuse but he then put us through another four to six weeks inside in the court. We were being told by his barristers that we were liars and we made it up.”

Peter said he was happy with the sentence and thanked gardai, especially Detective Garda Paul Walsh, for their tireless work on the case.

He explained that while he does get some satisfaction in seeing Honan behind bars he still struggles with the aftermath of his abuse.

“As the years went on my confidence was gone. My education went out the door because my concentration went.

“As I was getting older I couldn’t even go into a public toilet. Even now I would have to go into a cubicle and lock the door. I would just freeze up.

“It’s always in the back of your mind. If you are in a crowd and somebody touches off you, you’re very wary.

“I have two children and I would be very over-protective of them. If I bring them to a playground I am constantly watching them.”

Honan’s senior counsel David Sutton confirmed in court that they were going to appeal the conviction.
